Chargers ‘hopeful’ RB Austin Ekeler can play vs. Patriots

Chargers RB Austin Ekeler did not practice for the second straight day.

Chargers running back Austin Ekeler was a surprise addition to the injury report on Thursday.

Dealing with a hip injury, Ekeler did not practice for the second consecutive day and is now questionable for this weekend’s contest against the Patriots.

Following Friday’s practice, head coach Brandon Staley said Ekeler felt sore after Wednesday’s session, which led to the decision of holding him out, adding that he is “hopeful” that the 26-year old can play.

With there not an established back behind Ekeler, not having him on the field would be a considerable loss. Ekeler has 73 of the team’s 139 carries, averaging almost 5 yards per carry, and has four rushing touchdowns.

In other injury-related news, it remains to be seen if defensive tackle Justin Jones will be activated off the injured reserve. Staley said Jones looked good in practice.

Chargers injury update: RB Austin Ekeler misses Thursday practice

The Chargers had a surprise addition to the injury report.

The Chargers appeared to be heading into the Week 8 bout against the Patriots with a relatively healthy squad.

However, there’s a possibility that the team could be with a key player who’s either banged up or not available altogether this weekend.

Running back Austin Ekeler was added to the injury report with a hip issue and did not practice as a result.

The severity of the injury remains to be seen and it will be closely monitored leading up into the contest.

This comes a day after Ekeler commented on the state of the backfield, adding that someone needs to step up and establish themselves as the second back.

If Ekeler is limited or ruled out, Justin Jackson, Joshua Kelley and rookie Larry Rountree will all have more opportunities to make their cases.

First injury report for Chargers ahead of matchup vs. Patriots

The Los Angeles Chargers only had three players on the first injury report.

Following their bye week, the Chargers returned to work in preparation for the Week 8 matchup with the Patriots.

Here is a look at Wednesday’s injury report:

The bye week did the team wonders, as it allowed the players to rest and recover after six consecutive games fully.

All three players who missed the last game against the Ravens are all trending toward playing this weekend.

Nasir Adderley and Mike Williams were both full participants, while Drue Tranquill practiced in a limited capacity.

Justin Jones has been practicing, and he will likely be activated ahead of the contest after being out since Week 1.

Chargers inactives: See who’s in and who’s out for Week 6 vs. Ravens

Find out which Chargers players were ruled out ahead of the Week 6 matchup with the Ravens.

The Los Angeles Chargers are on the road, set to take on the Baltimore Ravens in Week 6 of the regular season.

Here is a look at their inactives today:

Easton Stick

Nasir Adderley

Larry Rountree

Drue Tranquill

Brenden Jaimes

Tre’ McKitty

Forrest Merrill

Mike Williams, who was listed as questionable, will play on Sunday.

Joshua Kelley gets the nod over Larry Rountree as the third running back behind Austin Ekeler and Justin Jackson.

After making some contributions in limited snaps, Forrest Merrill being inactive comes as a bit of surprise, especially when slowing the run needs to be a priority for the Chargers.

Chargers S Nasir Adderley ruled out vs. Ravens

The Chargers made some roster moves ahead of Sunday’s showdown with the Ravens.

The Chargers ruled out safety Nasir Adderley for the Week 6 bout against the Ravens.

Adderley, who is dealing with a hip injury, was listed as questionable on the final injury report after not practicing on Thursday and Friday.

Head coach Brandon Staley said that Adderley has been dealing with a hip pointer and it flared up last weekend against the Browns.

With Adderley out, Alohi Gilman and rookie Mark Webb will be in line to receive extended playing time.

In addition, Los Angeles promoted nose tackle Breiden Fehoko and linebacker Cole Christiansen to the active roster.

Since Drue Tranquill will not be playing, Christiansen adds depth behind Kyzir White, Nick Niemann and Amen Ogbongbemiga.

Chargers injury report: 3 key players missing at Thursday’s practice

The Chargers could be without three key players this Sunday against the Ravens.

The Chargers had their second practice ahead of the Week 6 contest against the Ravens on Thursday.

For the second straight day, linebacker Drue Tranquill and wide receiver Mike Williams did not practice. Added into the mix of non-participants was safety Nasir Adderley, who was previously listed as limited.

Tranquill, who is dealing with a chest injury, is unlikely to play this weekend. If he’s out, rookie Nick Niemann would be next in line to get extended snaps.

Williams (knee) not practicing this week is a bit concerning for the positional group. If the most productive receiver is not able to play, Joshua Palmer and Jalen Guyton would receive more playing time.

Adderley is dealing with a hip injury. It would be tough to not have him on the field, as he’s been a key piece in the back end of the defense this season. Alohi Gilman and Mark Webb would fill in if he’s out.

Los Angeles will have its final practice on Friday before traveling to Baltimore.

Chargers inactives: See who’s in and who’s out for Week 5 vs. Browns

There are five players inactive for the Chargers in Week 5.

The Los Angeles Chargers are set to take on the Cleveland Browns in Week 5 of the regular season.

Here is a look at their inactives today:

RB Justin Jackson

DB Trey Marshall

TE Tre’ McKitty

OL Brenden Jaimes

QB Easton Stick

With running back Justin Jackson out with a groin injury, Joshua Kelley will make his 2021 season debut.

After missing the last three games with a shoulder injury, cornerback Chris Harris Jr. returns to the field.

Chargers injury updates ahead of Week 5 vs. Browns

The Chargers should be getting two players back this weekend.

After finishing the final practice of the week before taking on the Browns this weekend, Chargers head coach Brandon Staley provided an update on a few players that either dealt or are dealing with an injury.

Even though he is listed as questionable on the final injury report, cornerback Chris Harris Jr. (shoulder) is expected to play on Sunday, according to head coach Brandon Staley.

“Barring any setback, I think he should play. He’s practiced pretty well this week and is feeling pretty good.”

Staying in the secondary, cornerback and special teams ace Ryan Smith is expected to make his 2021 season debut this weekend. Signed this past offseason, Smith should aid the coverage units.

The only player that will not likely see the action is running back Justin Jackson, who is doubtful with a groin injury. Therefore, Joshua Kelley would be in a position to make his season debut.

Chargers Week 4 injury report: DT Justin Jones out, 2 questionable

The Chargers had three players on the final injury report ahead of the Week 4 matchup.

The Chargers had their final practice on Saturday ahead of the Week 4 matchup against the Raiders.

Linebacker Kenneth Murray sustained a leg injury at practice, which we can now directly pinpoint as his ankle. In particular, he re-injured the same ankle that knocked him out of the Cowboys game briefly in Week 2.

With that being said, Murray is questionable for Monday’s game. Head coach Brandon Staley said the team will know more about the severity of his injury later today.

For the third straight week, defensive tackle Justin Jones will not play.

Jones participated in a limited capacity the first two days at practice, but he was a non-participant today.

Jones has been dealing with a calf issue, which Staley has been calling just a cramp numerous times. But it’s likely that it could be strained now.

Joe Gaziano was signed to the active roster, but it’s also likely that either Breiden Fehoko or Forrest Merrill will get promoted from the practice squad.

Cornerback Chris Harris Jr., who also hasn’t played the past two games, is questionable with a shoulder issue. If Harris is unable to play, Tevaughn Campbell will likely get the start in the slot.

Friday’s injury report for Chargers ahead of AFC West showdown with Raiders

Friday’s injury report for Chargers ahead of matchup with Raiders

The Chargers had their second practice ahead of Monday night’s division matchup with the Raiders.

There were seven players listed, with four limited players and three who participated in a full practice. Not one player worked on the side during the practice portion open to the media.

Most notably, veteran wide receiver Keenan Allen was once again a limited participant with a sustained ankle injury; however, there’s been nothing to suggest that Allen’s status for the AFC West showdown is in danger.

The other three limiteds listed on Friday’s injury report include: cornerback Chris Harris Jr., defensive lineman Justin Jones and long snapper Matt Overton. Head coach Brandon Staley expected Jones to return to practice fully yesterday, but he remains listed as a limited player.

Edge defender Joey Bosa, who is dealing with a foot/ankle injury, fully participated in back-to-back practices. Safeties Alohi Gilman and Derwin James also practiced fully, an improvement from their status Thursday.
