Ravens reportedly put in request to interview Browns WR coach Chad O’Shea for vacant OC position

The Ravens have reportedly put in a request to interview Browns’ wide receiver coach Chad O’Shea

The Baltimore Ravens and offensive coordinator Greg Roman officially parted ways on Thursday, paving the way for the team to look for a new play-caller and offensive system. The move was needed, as the Baltimore offense had been growing stale over the course of the last few seasons with Roman in charge.

The Ravens will leave no stone unturned in their search, and have already reportedly requested to interview multiple candidates for their vacant coordinator opening. On Saturday, Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com reported that Baltimore has put in a request to interview Cleveland Browns wide receivers coach Chad O’Shea for their opening.

O’Shea has worked in the NFL since 2003, where he got his start with the Kansas City Chiefs. He spent almost a decade with the New England Patriots from 2009-2018, where he was a part of the team’s Super Bowl LI win over the Atlanta Falcons.

Ravens request to interview WR coach Chad O’Shea for offensive coordinator gig

The Ravens are now the second team to inquire about Chad O’Shea

The Baltimore Ravens have become the second team interested in Chad O’Shea for their open offensive coordinator job. After it was reported yesterday that the New York Jets had interviewed the current wide receivers coach and passing game coordinator for the Cleveland Browns, the Ravens have now also put in a request to sit down with O’Shea after parting ways with Greg Roman.

O’Shea is the second member of the staff to receive such requests, as offensive line coach Bill Callahan was also reached out to by the Jets. He opted, however, to stay with the Browns and sign an extension. O’Shea was the offensive coordinator with the Miami Dolphins for a season under Brian Flores, and it appears he is a hot name once again.

Jets interview Browns WRs coach Chad O’Shea for offensive coordinator job

Another name has been added to the Jets’ search for a new offensive coordinator. The latest candidate is Chad O’Shea, currently the wide receivers coach and pass game coordinator for the Cleveland Browns.

The 50-year-old coach just wrapped up his 20th season coaching in the NFL, his third in Cleveland. O’Shea began his NFL career as a volunteer assistant with the Kansas City Chiefs in 2003. Besides the Browns, he has spent time with the Chiefs, Vikings, Patriots and Dolphins in his NFL coaching career. He was the offensive coordinator for head coach Brian Flores in Miami in 2019. He also has seven years of coaching in the college ranks.

O’Shea was a part of three Super Bowl-winning teams during his ten seasons with the Patriots (XLIX, LI, LIII).

O’Shea’s resume

  • Browns wide receivers coach/pass game coordinator (2020-present)
  • Dolphins offensive coordinator (2019)
  • Patriots wide receivers coach (2009-2018)
  • Vikings offensive assistant/wide receivers coach/assistant special teams coach (2008)
  • Vikings offensive assistant/wide receivers coach (2007)
  • Vikings offensive assistant (2006)
  • Chiefs assistant special teams coach (2004-2005)
  • Chiefs volunteer assistant (2003)

  • Houston tight ends coach/special teams coach/recruiting coordinator (1999)

  • Houston wide receivers coach (1997)

Jets interview Browns WR coach/passing game coordinator Chad O’Shea for OC gig

The Jets have interviewed the Browns’ passing game coordinator and wide receivers coach.

The New York Jets put in two requests for an interview with the Cleveland Browns. After firing Mike LeFleur as their offensive coordinator, head coach Robert Saleh and company are looking for someone to get their offense on track. First, offensive line coach Bill Callahan declined their request for an interview, but wide receivers coach and passing game coordinator Chad O’Shea has interviewed in New York.

O’Shea has play-calling experience in his one season under Brian Flores with the Miami Dolphins before losing that gig and joining Kevin Stefanski‘s staff in Cleveland. As the New England Patriots look to hire a new offensive coordinator as well, his Belichick connections may land him an interview there as well.

Report: Patriots could target Browns passing game coordinator/WR coach Chad O’Shea

The Browns may need a new passing game coordinator and WRs coach by the end of the hiring cycle.

Defensive coordinator is not the only opening that the Cleveland Browns may have to fill as their passing game coordinator and wide receivers coach may get another shot as an offensive coordinator as well this offseason. Chad O’Shea was an assistant under Bill Belichick for the New England Patriots for a decade before leaving to be Brian Flores’ (who is interviewing with the Browns today) offensive coordinator with the Miami Dolphins.

He was let go after just one season in Miami, but he could be heading back to New England with a second chance at calling plays. Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer has reported that as the Patriots look to turn over whatever their Matt Patricia and Joe Judge-led offense was, O’Shea could be a target for Belichick.

The Browns have been rumored to potentially look for another passing game coordinator or advisor this offseason anyway as owner Jimmy Haslam wants to incorporate more air raid concepts. This could be their opening to do so.

Donovan Peoples-Jones earning high praise from Browns coaching staff

After leading the #Browns in receiving against the #Panthers, Peoples-Jones is earning the trust of his coaches.

After leading the Cleveland Browns in receiving against the Carolina Panthers in Week 1, Donovan Peoples-Jones turned some heads around the NFL with his rock-solid performance. Making contested catches look easy is his specialty, and Cleveland’s receivers coach and pass game coordinator Chad O’Shea seems to have taken notice.

He spoke to the media on Friday about the receiver’s ability to make the toughest catches, telling reporters that the highlight-reel plays are a manifestation of intense practice and preparation by Peoples-Jones.

“I think Donovan has put himself in position to be real successful on the field because of what he has done prior to the game,” O’Shea explained. “His preparation has been outstanding. When I talk about preparation, there are a lot of things that go into preparation. One of the things is your fundamental preparation. He has worked extremely hard to be fundamentally sound at catching the football.

“He has worked hard in all areas, but that has been an area that he has really focused in on. He has ability. He has ability to make contested and difficult catches because of his size and his catch skills. Obviously, he has the ability, but he also has worked extremely hard to make sure that he is consistent in that area, and it showed up in the Carolina game.”

Peoples-Jones has some stiff competition ahead of him on the depth chart in Amari Cooper and is still coming into his own as a third-year receiver. Originally a sixth-round draft pick, he has exceeded every expectation for the Browns so far in his career and seems to be developing chemistry with Jacoby Brissett that could accelerate his development early this season.

While he likely isn’t ready to take on the rigors of facing opponents’ top cornerbacks on every down, he is growing into a complementary role behind Cooper and should prove to be a major asset to Cleveland’s offense all season.

Giants to hire Chiefs Mike Kafka not Browns Chad O’Shea as offensive coordinator

O’Shea was in the running but a former NFL QB gets his first chance to call plays as the Giants OC:

We shared Wednesday that Cleveland Browns wide receiver coach and passing game coordinator Chad O’Shea was being considered for the offensive coordinator job with the New York Giants. His links to new Giants head coach Brian Daboll and his one season as offensive coordinator with the Miami Dolphins bode well for his chances to get the job but he was in competition with some quality candidates.

Thursday, Mike Garafolo of NFL Network is reporting that Kansas City Chiefs quarterback’s coach Mike Kafka will be hired for the position instead:

Kafka, like soon-to-be Minnesota Vikings head coach Kevin O’Connell, played quarterback in the NFL after being selected in the fourth round by the Philadelphia Eagles in 2010. Kafka only played four career games, completing 11 of 16 passes for 107 yards and two interceptions. He bounced around the league for a few years last being on the Cincinnati Bengals practice squad in 2015.

After his playing career, Kafka spent a year helping at Northwestern University before joining the Chiefs. He has been the team’s quarterback’s coach since 2018 with his role with the Giants being his first time calling plays.

O’Shea could still be wanted by other teams as Houston and Miami have still not filled their head coaching positions and other teams still have roles they need to fill.

Giants OC search includes Browns Chad O’Shea

A one-year OC with the Dolphins under Flores, O’Shea also has ties to Daboll from their time in New England:

The New York Giants have their new head coach in former Cleveland Browns offensive coordinator Brian Daboll. After his time with the Browns, Daboll reestablished himself with stints in Miami, Kansas City, New England and in college at Alabama before becoming a head coaching candidate based on his work with Josh Allen with the Buffalo Bills.

Daboll is now in the process of putting his staff together while the Giants deal with the Brian Flores lawsuit. The team is expected to keep Patrick Graham as their defensive coordinator if he doesn’t get a head coaching job.

Now comes word that Cleveland’s passing game coordinator and wide receivers coach Chad O’Shea is one of many names being linked to the Giants offensive coordinator position:

As noted, O’Shea and Daboll shared time together with the Patriots where O’Shea was a part of the staff for 10 years. Prior to joining New England, Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski and O’Shea were on staff together in Minnesota.

The Cleveland receivers coach and passing game coordinator spent one year as the offensive coordinator of the Miami Dolphins before joining the Browns. The Dolphins fired O’Shea after one season under Flores despite the two having experience together with the Patriots.

The Browns have already lost their two defensive line coaches with Chris Kiffin joining his brother and the assistant DL coach Jeremy Garrett to Liberty University.

Giants narrow OC search to three as Ken Dorsey stays in Buffalo

Ken Dorsey is staying with the Buffalo Bills, which leaves the New York Giants with three intriguing offensive coordinator candidates.

Ken Dorsey, the Buffalo Bills’ quarterback coach, will not be joining the New York Giants as their offensive coordinator.

Rather, Dorsey has decided to stay in Buffalo and replace Brian Daboll as the Bills’ offensive coordinator.

With Dorsey out of the mix, the Giants are focusing on three others, reports NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo.

Pep Hamilton is currently the passing game coordinator and quarterbacks coach with the Houston Texans, but he has a long resume in both the NFL and the college ranks. He is primarily known for his work under Jim Harbaugh and with quarterbacks Andrew Luck and Justin Herbert.

Chad O’Shea has held various offensive coaching roles in the NFL for nearly two decades with stops in Cleveland, Miami, New England, Minnesota and Kansas City. He worked with Daboll in New England and Giants defensive coordinator Patrick Graham in Miami.

Mike Kafka is only 34 but has been around the NFL as a quarterback and coach since being drafted in the fourth round of the 2010 NFL draft by the Philadelphia Eagles. He is currently the quarterbacks coach and passing game coordinator for the Kansas City Chiefs.
