CFP snubs left fans convinced Michigan should have been left out for sign-stealing

Should Michigan have made the CFP after the sign-stealing scandal?

It was evident the sign-stealing scandal wouldn’t keep an undefeated Michigan team out of the College Football Playoff once their ranking continued to rise in the weeks after.

But once the CFP reveal finally happened Sunday and some more than deserving teams were inevitably left out, disappointed fans started picking out the teams they would have left out, and Michigan became an easy target.

Cheating allegations will do that.

Whether they were Florida State fans, Georgia fans, or just anti-Michigan fans, there was no shortage of people wondering how the Wolverines not only made the playoff, but got rewarded with the top seed.

CFP picture cloudy on eve of committee selections

What schools will get CFP invites on Sunday?

The four teams that will compete in the College Football Playoff will be announced on Sunday.

The picture isn’t clear, call it murky, after Saturday’s conference championship games.

Michigan and Washington have firm grips on two of the slots.

The Big Ten and Pac-12 champions only have to wonder where they will be slotted, likely1 and 2, not definitely in that order, respectively.

It then gets tricky. Florida State is 13-0 and won the ACC Championship by defeating Louisville. The Seminoles were down to a third-string QB against the Cardinals and have been questioned for their performance in victories over Florida and Lousiville in their last two games, both wins.

Texas has one loss — to Oklahoma — and defeated Oklahoma State to win the Big 12 Championship Game.

The Longhorns believe their head-to-head win over Alabama in Tuscaloosa early in the season, a 10-point triumph, should be enough to put them in the CFP.

Alabama suffered only that loss to Texas and rolled through the rest of its regular season before snapping Georgia’s 29-game winning streak in the SEC Championship Game.

The Bulldogs had that long streak end, but have won 45 of their last 46 games. Will they be out of the CFP because of the three-point loss to the Crimson Tide?

The debate will rage overnight and it will likely only grow on Sunday when the CFP committee announces who is in and who is out.

LSU rises in College Football Playoff rankings ahead of championship weekend

The Tigers are moving up thanks to Louisville’s loss to Kentucky.

The Tigers’ regular season is complete, and they once again finished 9-3 after getting their revenge from last season’s loss to Texas A&M with a 42-30 senior day victory.

Despite a few near-upsets, there wasn’t a ton of shakeup in the top 10 to allow LSU to move. The exception was Louisville, which fell out of the top 10 following a loss to rival Kentucky.

That allowed the Tigers to move up in both polls this week, and it was the same story in the College Football Playoff rankings. Here’s where the Tigers stand in the penultimate CFP rankings as we head into conference championship weekend.

Tigers gain some ground in College Football Playoff Rankings heading into Rivalry Week

The Tigers remain the highest-ranked three-loss team in the CFP Rankings.

With one week to go in the regular season, we’re drawing closer to the final College Football Playoff Rankings.

The Tigers draw Texas A&M in rivalry week as they look to finish 9-3 once again, and they have some momentum after a 56-14 beatdown against Georgia State. Quarterback Jayden Daniels bolstered his Heisman resume once again in that one, totaling eight touchdowns.

After that performance, LSU remains in the top 15 of the committee’s rankings and has gained some ground ahead of Week 13. The biggest change came in the top five as undefeated Washington has jumped another unbeaten opponent in Florida State.

Here’s the full top 25 in this week’s CFP Rankings.

Washington leapfrogs Florida State for fourth spot in CFP Rankings

Washington moves into fourth in the CFP Rankings ahead of Florida State

The CFP Rankings saw a shakeup this week and a team that scored 58 straight points and won by 45 fell out of the top four.

Florida State will be without quarterback Jordan Travis, who suffered a brutal leg injury in the win over North Alabama. Travis, a Heisman candidate, tweeted his college career is done.

Washington was the beneficiary of the Seminoles slipping as it moved into the fourth spot. The Huskies won at Oregon State, 22-20.

And this was said for the shift:

The Huskies play Washington State in the Apple Cup this week; the Seminoles face Florida.

Each school will be in its respective conference championship game.

FSU, which fell to fifth, will play Louisville in the ACC title game while Washington will either have a rematch with Oregon or face Arizona.

CFP Rankings: Georgia still No. 1, FSU drops out of Top 4

CFP Rankings: Georgia still No. 1, FSU drops out of Top 4

The undefeated Georgia Bulldogs came in at No. 1 in the fourth College Football Playoff Rankings as released on Tuesday night, maintaining their spot from a week ago.

Georgia’s 38-10 win over then No. 18 Tennessee didn’t give the committee much to worry about at the top spot, but there was some shakeup in the top-4. Florida State was jumped by Washington at the No. 4 spot after the Huskies’ 22-20 win over No. 15 Oregon State last week.

The Seminoles, now at No. 5, losing star quarterback Jordan Travis due to a season-ending injury seems to have cost FSU a spot.

The updated top four:

  1. Georgia
  2. Ohio State
  3. Michigan
  4. Washington

The Bulldogs have three wins over  Top-25 teams as it stands: No. 9 Missouri, No. 12 Ole Miss and No. 21 Tennessee, all of which came over the last three weeks.

Looking ahead to the class with Alabama in the SEC Championship on Dec. 2, the Crimson Tide remain the No. 8 team in this week’s rankings and have a matchup with Auburn in the Iron Bowl up next.

The Bulldogs will travel to Atlanta to take on Georgia Tech on Saturday. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. ET, televised on ABC.

LSU sees a boost in College Football Playoff rankings after offensive explosion against Florida

The Tigers are rising in all the rankings this week.

The Tigers’ hopes of making it back to Atlanta are over, and a New Year’s Six bid feels like a longshot.

But after LSU’s prolific offensive performance in a 52-35 home win over cross-division rival Florida on Saturday night, the team will at least be able to enjoy a slight bump in the College Football Playoff rankings this week.

There weren’t a ton of changes up top, but with losses from Tennessee, Utah and Oklahoma State, the Tigers were able to benefit. Two top 10 teams did go down, however, in Ole Miss and Penn State.

Here’s how the full top 25 looks in the CFP rankings after Week 11.

David Pollack ranks his top six college football teams before Week 11

Former Georgia defensive end David Pollack ranks the Bulldogs and the rest of his top six ahead of Week 11

Former Georgia Bulldog legend David Pollack named his top six college football teams ahead of Week 11.

Pollack is not working with ESPN’s “College GameDay” this year. Countless Georgia fans aren’t happy about it. Georgia fans and college football fans miss Pollack’s valuable insights and ability to analyze the games without dishing out hot takes.

Fortunately, Pollack is still making his opinions about college football known.

Pollack disagrees with the latest College Football Playoff rankings, which has the Ohio State Buckeyes as the No. 1 team in the country. Pollack announced his top six rankings before Week 11, which features several great games including Utah at Washington, Miami at Florida State, Michigan at Penn State and Ole Miss at Georgia.

Who are Pollack’s top college football teams? Where does he rank the Georgia Bulldogs before the Ole Miss game?

LSU sits in the top 20 of the College Football Playoff rankings after Week 10

The Tigers fell out of the top 15 of the College Football Playoff rankings after the Alabama loss.

LSU had the chance to push for a spot in the top 10 of the College Football Playoff rankings with a win on the road against Alabama in Week 10. Instead, the Tigers fell 42-28 in Tuscaloosa, ending their hopes of repeating as SEC West champions and likely of reaching the New Year’s Six.

It also meant LSU took a tumble in this week’s rankings. In the second edition of the CFP rankings, the Tigers — which previously ranked 14th — fell out of the top 15, though they do still remain in the top 20 despite having three losses.

Here’s how the CFP rankings look at the end of Week 10.
