Steelers activate TE Eric Ebron, LB Cassius Marsh from Reserve/COVID list

Eric Ebron and Cassius Marsh could play versus the Cleveland Browns in the wild-card round.

The Pittsburgh Steelers announced on Thursday that tight end Eric Ebron and linebacker Cassius Marsh have been activated from the Reserve/COVID-19 list.

Both players were close contacts of cornerback Joe Haden and were placed on the Reserve/COVID-19 list on Jan. 2, causing them to miss the final game of the regular season. Haden tested positive and will not play in the wild-card round on Sunday.

On 91 targets, Ebron has 56 catches for 558 yards and five touchdowns. Vance McDonald has proven to be a more effective blocker and had five receptions on six targets for 33 yards versus Cleveland.

Pittsburgh signed Marsh off the Colts practice squad on Dec. 9 and was activated on Dec. 14. He’s appeared in one game and made two solo tackles and against the Colts in Week 16.

Steelers new EDGE Cassius Marsh says he’s ‘grateful for this opportunity’ with Pittsburgh

The Pittsburgh Steelers are in need of veteran depth and they got just that on Wednesday.

With injuries piling up, the Pittsburgh Steelers have a shortage of experienced veterans and addressed some of that need on Wednesday. The team announced the signing of defensive lineman Cassius Marsh from the Indianapolis Colts practice squad.

Marsh, now in his seventh season, opened the season with the Jacksonville Jaguars, where he registered nine tackles (seven solo), two hurries and a quarterback hit in four games (one start). He logged five solo tackles and a hurry in three games with the Colts after being activated as a COVID-19 replacement. According to Colts Wire, Indianapolis’ defensive line is nearing full strength, and there likely would not have been a role for him on the active roster.

The Seattle Seahawks selected the UCLA product in the fourth-round of the 2014 NFL draft. In 91 games (nine starts), Marsh contributed 14 sacks, 173 tackles (25 for loss), five forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries, 29 quarterback hits and 121 hurries. He’s been utilized heavily on special teams during his career, logging 1,607 snaps.

Pittsburgh marks the seventh stop for Marsh, which also includes the Arizona Cardinals (2019), San Francisco 49ers (2017-18) and New England Patriots (2017).

Marsh’s versatility makes him a perfect fit in Pittsburgh. According to Pro Football Focus, he’s spent most of his career at left and right end, but he’s also seen plenty of snaps at outside linebacker.

Currently listed at defensive end on Pittsburgh’s roster, at 6’4, 245 pounds, Marsh projects as more of an EDGE, or outside linebacker, in the Steelers system. He’s nearly identical to Alex Highsmith in stature. Marsh is likely to rotate off the right edge with Highsmith and Ola Adeniyi and spell T.J. Watt on the left.

Football is in the blood of the Marsh family. Cassius’ father, Curtis Marsh Sr., played the 1997 season with the Steelers at wide receiver. His brother, Curtis Marsh Jr., was a cornerback who last played for the Denver Broncos in 2015.

Marsh will be wearing No. 49.

Steelers sign DE Cassius Marsh from Colts practice squad

Cassius Marsh heads to Pittsburgh.

The Pittsburgh Steelers signed defensive end Cassius Marsh off of the Indianapolis Colts practice squad on Wednesday, per Ed Bouchette of The Athletic.

Marsh was signed to the practice squad on Oct. 24 and has been elevated a few times to the active roster for game days. He’s mostly used on special teams and sparingly on defense as an edge rusher.

He played in three games with the Colts, twice against the Titans and once against the Packers. With the defensive line nearing full strength, there likely wasn’t much room for Marsh to get a role on the active roster.

Now, he goes from one team battling for a playoff spot to the top team in the AFC.

Jaguars release LB Cassius Marsh

The Jaguars got their roster back to 53 players after releasing Cassius Marsh for their new addition of Kamalei Correa (via trade).

With the addition of linebacker Kamalei Correa via trade, the Jacksonville Jaguars had to free up a roster spot. They did so Thursday by releasing veteran linebacker Cassius Marsh, who signed with the team this spring via free-agency.

Marsh, 28, appeared in four games for the Jags and started in one with SAM linebacker Leon Jacobs going on injured reserve for a torn ACL. During his tenure with the Jags, he was able to garner nine combined tackles and a quarterback hit. However, he wasn’t really able to make a big impact as the Jags were hoping for and will leave the team with a Pro Football Focus grade of 42.2 on the year.

Marsh’s release is a sign the Jags are likely to utilize Correa at SAM linebacker, but time will tell if that’s the case. They acquired Correa in a rare in-division transaction after he asked the staff to be traded/ released because of his lack of snaps. To make the transaction happen, the Jags and his former team in the Tennessee Titans swapped late round selections in 2021, with the Jags sending a six-round selection to them for their seventh-rounder.

Correa Will enter his tenure with the Jags with 57 career appearances and 13 starts. Throughout those games, he’s been able to garner 77 tackles (11 of which were for loss), 8.5 sacks, a pair of forced fumbles and a fumble recovery.
