Film Breakdown: What type of player is 2024 recruit Carter Kadow?

Rutgers continues recruiting for their 2024 class as they land three-star recruit Carter Kadow. Did RU add a Power Five lineman in Kadow?

Rutgers football continues recruiting for their 2024 class as they land offensive lineman Carter Kadow on Sunday. With his verbal commitment, the Scarlet Knights have totaled 19 recruits for their 2024 class and are ranked No. 23 in the nation, according to 247Sports.

A three-star offensive lineman from Middleton, Wisconsin, Kadow received another Power Five offer from Indiana and received interest from Iowa State, Minnesota, and Penn State. According to 247Sports, the 6-foot-7 and 266-pound lineman is ranked No. 12 in Wisconsin and No. 88 offensive tackle in the nation among his recruiting class.

Kadow performed well at the Rutgers Big Man Academy on Saturday, recording an 84-inch wingspan, running a 5.01 time in the 40, and jumping a 9-foot-3-inch broad jump.

Film Breakdown

Kadow is a natural tight end in high school. He has a great size frame and performed a ton of run blocking at tight end. Kadow can perform basic blocks like double teams, reaching / zone blocking, and combo blocks.

If Kadow is going to develop into a Power Five lineman, he needs to show more aggression and physicality up front. The three-star recruit has excellent hand placement and technique coming off the ball but doesn’t drive opposing defensive linemen off the line of scrimmage.

Kadow has experience putting his hand on the ground, so moving to tackle shouldn’t be an issue for the Wisconsin native. It is unclear if Kadow can pass block, an aspect a Big Ten lineman would need to know how to do. If the new Scarlet Knight is changing his position, he needs to learn the technique for pass blocking to succeed at the Power Five level.

If Kadow can’t cut it at tackle, he can always return to his old position at tight end. The 2024 recruit is athletic and has excellent hands, grabbing multiple touchdowns last season for the Cardinals. If tight end is an option, his speed needs improvement, only running a 5.01 40-yard dash.

Kadow is now the second Rutgers recruit from Wisconsin following Sam Pilof’s verbal commitment on April 15.
