Andy Reid assesses Louis Rees-Zammit’s performance vs. Bears

Check out what Andy Reid had to say about Louis Rees-Zammit’s performance in the #Chiefs’ loss to the #Bears on Thursday night.

The Kansas City Chiefs signed rugby star Louis Rees-Zammit in the 2024 offseason, hoping that he can achieve the same success he found across the pond in his new profession.

Rees-Zammit has now made appearances in three preseason games with the Chiefs, and head coach Andy Reid has taken notice of the ex-rugger’s efforts.

After Kansas City’s loss to the Chicago Bears on Thursday, Reid gave reporters an update on Rees-Zammit’s progression during the Chiefs’ postgame press conference.

“Yeah, (we) tried to get him the ball a little bit tonight and he had some real positive yards,” Reid explained. “It will be good for him to see and study himself on that. In live action like that. He is a heck of an athlete and it’s just a matter of getting familiar.”

Though Rees-Zammit was overshadowed by Carson Steele in the running game, Reid and general manager Brett Veach may still choose to keep him on Kansas City’s 53-man roster this season as a developmental prospect.

The preseason is over, and the winless Kansas City Chiefs can focus on the regular season, which starts in a few weeks.

Undrafted rookie Carson Steele was a breakout star from the preseason. He immediately garnered attention for his personality and play. Chiefs head coach Amdy Reid spoke highly of Steele during his post-game press conference on Thursday night.

“We’ll evaluate him, but he looked good tonight. (He’s a) physical kid, and I know the guys were excited when he was carrying it, but we’ll see,” said Reid. “He’s a good football player, though (it) didn’t look like they really wanted to tackle him. So that’s a plus if you’re a running back.”

Steele only carried the ball four times in the Chiefs’ 34-21 loss to the Bears but still tallied 50 yards and a touchdown. The touchdown was his second of the preseason as he beefed up his resume heading into final roster cuts.

“If he (had) stayed at Ball State, he probably would have gone down as one of the great ones at the university there, but he transferred and ended up playing there at UCLA,” said Reid. “And that’s saying something from an experienced standpoint with a bigger school, but we knew he could run the football. It was his ability to pass, protect, play special teams, and do those things, and he’s done a pretty good job with all that.”

Steele’s versatility puts him in the mix as either a running back or fullback on Reid’s offense. He also showed a flair for making impactful plays on special teams.

Final score: Chiefs lose to Bears 34-21 in preseason finale at Arrowhead Stadium

The Kansas City #Chiefs fell to 0-3 in the preseason after a 34-21 loss to the Chicago Bears at Arrowhead Stadium on Thursday night.

The Kansas City Chiefs lost in their preseason finale against the Chicago Bears at Arrowhead Stadium on Thursday night.

The game’s final score was 34-21 in Chicago’s favor and left Kansas City’s preseason record at 0-3.

Though several players popped for the Chiefs in the loss, turnovers and poor defensive play proved too much for Kansas City to overcome, and ultimately doomed the defending champions to finish their exhibition schedule without a win.

Rookie running back Carson Steele was among the Chiefs’ most effective players against the Bears, ending the game with four rushes for 50 yards and a touchdown to cap off his exceptional preseason.

Now that the preseason has run its course, head coach Andy Reid and general manager Brett Veach will have to make some difficult decisions to cut down Kansas City’s roster down to 53 players and a 16-man practice squad next week.

Stay tuned to Chiefs Wire over the next few weeks to see which players stick around in Kansas City for the 2024 regular season.

Rookie running back Carson Steele emerged as the Kansas City Chiefs’ top offensive weapon in their preseason finale against the Chicago Bears on Thursday night.

After two outstanding performances in Kansas City’s previous preseason exhibitions, Steele’s stock went through the roof when he scored a touchdown against Chicago.

Steele’s outstanding score impressed fans in attendance for the game at Arrowhead Stadium, but it was the reaction of reigning Super Bowl MVP Patrick Mahomes that stole the show on the Chiefs’ sideline.

Check out how Mahomes celebrated Steele’s touchdown below in this video that was posted by the NFL’s official Twitter account:

Though the rookie will still have to fight for a spot on Kansas City’s 53-man roster, his exceptional efforts in the preseason have made him a fan favorite and should prove to be enough to tip the scale in his favor when Andy Reid and Brett Veach make cuts next week.

Chiefs vs. Bears: Rookie RB Carson Steele scores impressive touchdown

Rookie running back Carson Steele scored an impressive touchdown during the #Chiefs’ preseason finale against the #Bears on Thursday night.

The Kansas City Chiefs are looking to earn their first preseason win on Thursday against the Chicago Bears, and while starters on both teams rest, second and third-string players have an opportunity to showcase their talents.

Players like wide receiver Justyn Ross and quarterback Chris Oladokun have been stellar in their first two preseason outings, but former UCLA running back Carson Steele proved to be Kansas City’s top offensive weapon against Chicago.

Before scoring a touchdown in the Chiefs’ preseason finale, Steele rumbled for a big gain on this impressive run, which was featured by the NFL’s official Twitter account:

Though Isiah Pacheco is still expected to fill the top spot on Kansas City’s depth chart at running back, the battle to be his backup seems to be Steele’s to lose.

If the rookie continues performing at such a high level, it isn’t out of the question that he could develop into a key part of the Chiefs’ offense during the regular season.

Meet Carson Steele, the NFL undrafted fullback who might be the next Chiefs breakout star

Who said that fullbacks can’t be breakout stars?

The Kansas City Chiefs may have a new household name on their hands.

Fullback Carson Steele signed as an undrafted free agent out of UCLA with Kansas City in April, and now he’s in line to make the team’s 53-man roster and take meaningful snaps at running back this season.

He’s been a breakout star for the team during this month’s preseason games, and he’s got a real chance to be a breakout star in the NFL.

During Thursday night’s preseason finale for the Chiefs, Steele stiff-armed a Chicago Bears defender on this stellar run to right outside the Chicago goal line.

You just don’t often see fullbacks make plays like this in the NFL, much less undrafted fullbacks. This guy is special.

While Isiah Pacheco will be the lead back for Kansas City this fall, don’t sleep on Steele. He might just be a legitimate factor in helping Kansas City win a third-straight Super Bowl this winter.

Chiefs vs. Lions: Carson Steele shows off nifty footwork in warmups

Carson Steele showed off his excellent footwork during warmups at Arrowhead Stadium ahead of the #Chiefs’ preseason matchup against the #Lions

Kansas City Chiefs rookie Carson Steele became a fan-favorite in St. Joseph during training camp and is looking to put together a special performance against the Detroit Lions this afternoon.

Before his debut at Arrowhead Stadium, Steele was seen warming up for Kansas City’s second preseason tilt, where he is expected to see significant action as the Chiefs’ coaching staff assesses its options behind Isiah Pacheco.

Though it is unclear whether he would be a running back or fullback in Andy Reid’s offense, his outing against the Jacksonville Jaguars last week proved that he has what it takes to earn a spot on the Chiefs’ 53-man roster.

Check out Steele’s nifty footwork in his pre-game warmup in this video, which was shared on Twitter by KC Sports Network:

Expect to see Steele to steal the show against Detroit on Saturday afternoon, especially if the Chiefs rely on their running game to secure a win.

Will standout rookie force Chiefs to revive the fullback position in 2024?

Standout rookie Carson Steele may force Andy Reid to consider bringing the fullback position back to the #Chiefs’ offense in 2024.

The Kansas City Chiefs didn’t have a fullback on their roster last season but may decide to bring the position back after a strong showing from rookie Carson Steele in the preseason and training camp.

Steele made a great first impression on fans in his preseason debut against the Jacksonville Jaguars last week, showcasing his powerful running style and versatility to fulfill duties as a lead blocker in two-back sets.

He was Kansas City’s leading rusher in the game, racking up 29 yards and scoring a touchdown in just four carries, playing mostly as a running back.

But, Andy Reid seemed to have a different vision for Steele during the Chiefs’ final training camp practice on Thursday when Steele was seen taking a carry as a fullback with Isiah Pacheco behind him in a heavy formation.

Check out this video of Steele’s skills as a fullback, which was posted to Twitter by KC Sports Network:

Though one snap in training camp hardly constitutes a wholesale change in the Chiefs’ offensive approach, Steele’s potential as a fullback could be a boon for Reid and Patrick Mahomes in short-yardage situations or near the goal line.

For now, Steele’s spot on Kansas City’s 53-man roster is far from guaranteed, but with a solid showing against the Detroit Lions this weekend, he could punch his ticket to becoming the Chiefs’ new fullback.

Carson Steele wants to be a ‘Swiss Army knife’ in Chiefs offense

On Saturday, the Kansas City Chiefs had their first opportunity to see multiple young players make their NFL debuts, giving coaches an early indication of what they can offer the team.

Chiefs rookie Carson Steele is listed as a running back but has garnered attention as a potential fullback if he makes the final roster. After an impressive preseason debut over the weekend, he spoke with reporters on Monday after practice to address his role on the team.

“My main goal is trying to be like a Swiss army knife, try to do it all type of deal,” said Steele. “Wherever they need to put me in is where I can get in. And so, like they were saying, implementing the fullback in there as well as being able to block, especially catch out of the backfield, too, not only just being able to run.”

During Saturday’s preseason opener against the Jacksonville Jaguars, Steele had four rushes for 29 yards and a touchdown, proving he can dominate in short-yardage situations. Steele opened up about his potential role on the team as a fullback, which drew him to sign with Kansas City as an undrafted free agent.

“Coach Reid has had his fullbacks before. They didn’t have one last year, and talking with the coaches and stuff as I got picked up was the kind of thing we talked about,” Steele explained. “Coming in on packages, third and one, third and twos, and being able to be a bigger guy and block, especially catching out of the backfield, as well.”

The Chiefs went last season without a fullback and haven’t had one since Michael Burton’s departure a few seasons ago. Steele appears eager for any opportunity and is willing to embrace the new role as a fullback.

WATCH: Carson Steele plows through Jaguars, scores touchdown in Chiefs debut

#Chiefs RB Carson Steele put together an exceptional performance during his preseason debut against the #Jaguars.

The Kansas City Chiefs offense got off to a slow start against the Jacksonville Jaguars in preseason action on Saturday night, but when rookie running back Carson Steele took the field in the second quarter, everything changed.

Steele put together a remarkable opening drive in his NFL debut against Jacksonville, gaining 29 yards on four impressive carries where he plowed through several Jaguars defenders in pursuit of a touchdown.

Even before he found paydirt late in the second quarter, Steele was dominating Jacksonville with his hard-nosed running style.

Check out these clips of Steele’s most outstanding runs below, which were posted by user @Matty_KCSN and the NFL’s official Twitter account:

Expect to see Steele continue dominating the Jaguars in the second half of this game, especially if Kansas City’s passing game continues to struggle with Patrick Mahomes on the sideline.

If the rookie can continue finding success, he may be able to earn a spot on the Chiefs’ 53-man roster.
