Tracking Michigan State’s transfer portal activity in 2023:

The transfer portal is seeing a record number of players entering to look for new homes around college football.

Michigan State is no exception, and it will see its fair share of attrition within the roster. On the flip side, the Spartans are looking to bring in a large number of transfers to enhance the roster and fill holes left through graduation, transfers and other departures.

Former Michigan State football LB Carson Casteel commits to Vanderbilt

A former MSU linebacker has committed to play in the SEC

Carson Casteel was a member of Mel Tucker’s first class with Michigan State, the 2021 recruiting class, coming to East Lansing by way of Florence, Alabama. In his two years at Michigan State, Casteel saw time on special teams, but did not record a stat.

Following the 2022 season, Casteel made the decision to enter the NCAA transfer portal, and he has since found a new home. Casteel will be heading to the SEC, committing to play for the Vanderbilt Commodores.

Michigan State LB Carson Casteel has made the decision to enter the NCAA transfer portal

Another member of the Michigan State defense has entered the NCAA transfer portal. Carson Casteel, a redshirt freshman linebacker has made the decision to leave the program.

Casteel was a member of the 2021 recruiting class, coming from Florence, Alabama, to the Spartans program. Casteel only saw the field seldomly on special teams in his two seasons with the Spartans.

MSU Football lands commitment from 2021 3-star LB Carson Casteel, was committed to Troy

The Spartans have landed the commitment of a nice linebacker who was previously committed to Troy.

Two days ago, we noted that MSU Football and Mel Tucker had offered 2021 3-star linebacker Carson Casteel out of Florence High School in Alabama. Today, Casteel officially committed to the Spartans in a quick turnaround.

Casteel, who is the No. 69 ranked player in Alabama, was formerly committed to Troy but Tucker and his staff was aggressive in their pursuit and able to sway him to come to East Lansing.

Aside from Michigan State and Troy, Casteel was also recruited by Kansas, Memphis, Navy, Western Kentucky and some others before finally settling on MSU.
