Where Rockets rank in updated list of 77 greatest NBA players of all-time

With 77 NBA seasons in the books, @HoopsHype issued an updated list of the greatest 77 players of all-time. Here’s where players with #Rockets ties were ranked.

The 2023-24 regular season is the NBA’s 78th overall, which means 77 seasons are in the books.

With that in mind, our friends at HoopsHype recently compiled an updated list of the NBA’s best 77 players of all time, complete with statistics and information through the 2022-23 campaign.

As one might expect, the Rockets are well represented. Along with many All-Stars over the years, they had three Most Valuable Player (MVP) award winners: Hakeem Olajuwon, Moses Malone and James Harden. Historically, Houston is among the league’s top franchises.

Granted, the Rockets haven’t won a championship since Olajuwon led them to their only two in the 1994 and 1995 NBA Finals. But the hope is that could change in the years ahead. If it does, perhaps a rising star such Jalen Green, Amen Thompson or Jabari Smith Jr. might crack an updated version of this list in a decade or so.

For now, with the start of 2023-24 training camp only days away, here’s a look back at where legacy Rockets stand on HoopsHype’s updated list of the 77 greatest players in NBA history.

Austin Reaves did the three to the head celebration for Carmelo Anthony, who saluted back on Twitter

Austin Reaves and Carmelo Anthony were teammates on the Lakers.

During the 2023 FIBA World Cup semifinal match between Team USA and Germany, Austin Reaves had a perfect celebration after a 3-pointer.

After connecting on a shot from beyond the arc, Reaves hit the “three to the head” celebration popularized by Carmelo Anthony. The two players were teammates on the Los Angeles Lakers when Reaves was a rookie in 2021-22.

Anthony, who was captain of Team USA during the FIBA World Cup in 2006, was at the game in Manila. He was attending the tournament in the Philippines as FIBA’s World Cup Global Ambassador. Other ambassadors include Pau Gasol (Spain) and Luis Scola (Argentina).

Right after the 3-pointer connected, the three-time Olympic gold medalist was shown on the TV broadcast.

Anthony clearly saw the tribute from Reaves and he saluted back with a post on Twitter.

This was an awesome moment for Reaves, who has played well for Team USA during the tournament.

Reaves finished with 21 points but Team USA ultimately was upset by Germany, 113-111, and will not advance to the World Cup championship game.

Instead, Team USA will face Canada for a chance to win the bronze.

Social media reacts to Cole Anthony going 1-on-1 with Carmelo Anthony’s son Kiyan Anthony.

Former North Carolina Tar Heel [autotag]Cole Anthony[/autotag] sent social media into a frenzy Wednesday night after footage of him going 1-on-1 with Carmelo Anthony’s son, Kiyan Anthony, dropped.

In case you did not know, Kiyan Anthony is a hooper, currently a four-star recruit, ranked as the No. 1 player in New York, representing the 2025 class. Kiyan and Cole’s line and body structure matched well, leaving only experience in the difference between the two.

The viral clip shared by numerous media outlets has gained quite some traction, with ClutchPoints sharing the video on the X platform (formerly Twitter) and reaching 2M views.

After the video’s release, many began to share their thoughts on the video. Some saw a big season in store for the former Tar Heel, while others discussed how bright the future Kiyan has.

Let us look at how social media reacted to Cole’s 1-on-1 clip with Kiyan.

Kiyan Anthony’s show drops: ‘I want to show the world I’m not just an NBA player’s son’

Kiyan Anthony and Overtime partnered for a video series about the four-star Long Island Lutheran shooting guard’s high school path.

Kiyan Anthony and Overtime have released the first episode of The Evolu7ion, the new YouTube show featuring the high school basketball player and son of NBA legend Carmelo Anthony.

About 12 minutes long, the first episode of the show features highlights of in-game and AAU, practice footage and some video on the hardtop.

While Anthony’s said he wants to “‘show the world I’m not just an NBA player’s son,” much of the episode was centered around the relationship with Melo.

Anthony talked about the Black Ops team in his childhood with a bunch of friends that Carmelo helped form. As the Long Island Lutheran (Glen Head, N.Y). shooting guard aged, the father realized that he’s playing the game because he enjoys it, not just because his dad does.

“Once he told me he wanted it — then this is the result you get,” Melo said.

“Me and me dad behind the scenes is another father-son relationship,” Anthony said. “Since he’s in the NBA, and my mom (La La Anthony) being actress, it opens more doors for all of us.”

Much of the footage in the Overtime was practice with his friends under the tutelage of Carmelo, who said that he focuses a lot on conditioning with the teenagers. The father laughed as he commented to the cameraman that “they thought they was gonna come in here and do dribbling drills and s***.”

Anthony also spent a large portion of the video recapping the Team Melo AAU game against the Florida Rebels.

Anthony touched upon his Syracuse offer, saying there’s a chance he could go to the same school his father attended in 2002-03. It’s not a sure bet, though — rated as a four-star athlete on 247Sports, Anthony has 17 offers, including from Maryland, Michigan and Tennessee. With two more years of high school before graduating in 2025, Anthony is ranked as the No. 10 shooting guard on the site’s composite ranking and the No. 1 player in New York.

“I’m trying to get to the NBA and I’m trying to produce in the NBA,” Anthony said. “I want to prove I’m one of the best players in the country.”

La La said: “It’s incredible to have a father and a teacher like Melo to show you so many things, but it’s also important to make your own path. And I think that’s what he’s doing”
