Cardinals to face only 1 opponent coming off bye in 2024

The only time in 2024 the Cardinals will face a team that had their bye the previous week is against the New England Patriots in Week 15.

ersThe Arizona Cardinals released their 2024 regular-season schedule on Wednesday. They have a touch early stretch and it eases up later on in the season.

However, they benefit from no significant rest differential with opponents.

The Cardinals will only play one opponent this coming season that is coming off of their bye week.

That will be in Week 15 when they host the New England Patriots, who have their bye in Week 14.

According to Niners Wire managing editor Kyle Madson, the Cardinals are one of 23 teams in the league who either do not have an opponent coming off a bye or only have one.

Seven teams have two such games, and that includes the Seattle Seahawks, the team the Cardinals face after their own bye. The Indianapolis Colts face three opponents coming off their bye week and the San Francisco 49ers lead with four games with opponents coming off their bye.

Listen to the latest edition of the podcast.

The biggest news from the Arizona Cardinals’ loss to the New England Patriots was not the loss but rather the season-ending knee injury to quarterback Kyler Murray.

In this edition of the podcast, Revenge of the Birds’ Seth Cox and I discussed the injury and its impact as the Cardinals move forward beyond this season.

We talk about what went wrong against the Patriots, what there might be to look forward to for the rest of the season and preview their Week 15 game against the Broncos.

Kyler Murray not only Cardinals player to get hurt vs. Patriots

Kyler Murray was not the only player to get hurt for Arizona Monday night.

The Arizona Cardinals lost on Monday night 27-13 to the New England Patriots, but that wasn’t the biggest story.

The biggest story of the game was the non-contact knee injury that Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray sustained on the third play of the game, which is expected to end his season.

But Murray wasn’t the only key player to get hurt in the loss.

Let’s run down the injuries we know were sustained.

There is ‘little doubt’ Kyler Murray tore ACL

Murray’s season will be over and he might miss the start of next season.

The Arizona Cardinals suffered what is likely the biggest blow to a difficult 2022 season. Quarterback Kyler Murray went down on the third play of the game in the Cardinals’ 27-13 loss to the New England Patriots with a knee injury. He had to be carted off the field.

The fear is that he tore his ACL.

ESPN’s Josh Weinfuss reported Monday night that there is “little doubt it is torn.”

After the game, coach Kliff Kingsbury said, “it doesn’t look good.”

A torn ACL would cost him the rest of the season and would put the start of next season in doubt.

He will have an MRI today but Kingsbury might not have or share the results when he addresses the media this afternoon.

His season is most certainly over, dealing the final blow to one of the most disappointing seasons in recent history.

The Arizona Cardinals fell to 4-9 Monday night in a 27-13 loss to the New England Patriots. Quarterback Kyler Murray suffered what could be a season-ending knee injury on the third play of the game, the offense turned the ball over twice and the Patriots scored 20 unanswered points.

Kyler Murray carted off field with non-contact knee injury

On the third play from scrimmage, Murray’s knee buckled with no contact and he had to be carted off the field.

A very disappointing season for the Arizona Cardinals might have just had the worst thing that could happen. Quarterback Kyler Murray injured his knee and had to leave the game in the first quarter of their Monday night game against the New England Patriots.

On just the third play from scrimmage in the game after James Conner had a nine-yard catch and a six-yard run, Murray scrambled and ran to his right, gaining three yards. He had more open field in front of him, but his left knee gave out and he fell to the ground.

It was a non-contact injury to his knee, which seemingly always indicates a torn ACL.

He was carted off the field with a towel draped over his head, visibly upset with what happened.

After initially being ruled questionable to return, after the first quarter, it was announced he would not return.

With a 4-8 record in a season when they expected to be serious competitors in the NFC, losing Murray to a serious injury is the absolute worst-case scenario.

‘Manningcast’ Week 14 guests lacking AZ connections

Two of the four guests have connections to Boston or the Patriots. None are connected to the Cardinals or Arizona.

The Arizona Cardinals face the New England Patriots Monday night at State Farm Stadium. The game will air on ESPN as part of Monday Night Football.

Opposite the general game broadcast, on ESPN2, Peyton and Eli Manning will host their “Manningcast.”

Most weeks during the Monday night game, they comment on the game and interview guests.

In the Week 14 matchup in Arizona with the Cardinals and Patriots, the four guests the Mannings will have all lack any connection to Arizona.

Their four scheduled guests are Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow, former ESPN and well-known Boston sports fan Bill Simmons, actor and comedian Michael-Keegan Key and former Patriots kicker Adam Vinatieri.

Simmons and Vinatieri have ties to Boston and the Patriots.

None of the guests has any connection to the Cardinals or Arizona.

The Cardinals will have Zach Allen in the lineup on defense but Rondale Moore misses his second straight game.

Ninety minutes before the start of the Arizona Cardinals’ Monday night game against the New England Patriots, they released their list of inactive players. As expected, they would not have wide receiver Rondale Moore or offensive lineman Rashaad Coward. Moore was ruled out with a groin injury and Coward was with a chest injury.

But defensive lineman Zach Allen, questionable for the game with an illness that kept him out of Saturday’s practice, is active and will start for the 13th time this season.

Arizona Cardinals’ Week 14 inactives

  • WR Rondale Moore
  • CB Byron Murphy
  • C Charles Washington
  • QB Trace McSorley
  • LB Jesse Luketa

Moore misses his second straight game. Greg Dortch and Pharoh Cooper will fill his role on offense and in the return game.

Murphy misses his fourth straight game with a back injury. The cornerback rotation without him will be Marco Wilson, Antonio Hamilton and Trayvon Mullen.

Washington was questionable to play with his chest injury.
