Cardinals 18, Broncos 17: Highlights from Arizona’s preseason win

Catch all the big plays from both plays in the Cardinals’ preseason-opening, last-second 18-17 win.

The Arizona Cardinals opened up the Jonathan Gannon era with a win at home. After falling behind 10-0 in the first half and 17-10 with 1:30 left in the game, quarterback David Blough led Arizona on a 10-play, 75-yard drive, throwing an 18-yard touchdown pass to receiver Brian Cobbs with two seconds remaining in the game. Then, undrafted rookie running back Emari Demercado, after initially appearing to get stuffed at the one-yard line, drove the pile forward to score on a two-point conversion to give the Cardinals a last-second 18-17 win over the Denver Broncos.

Both teams made plays.

After combining for 13 points through three quarters, they combined for 22 fourth-quarter points for an exciting finish.

The Arizona Cardinals opened the preseason Friday night against the Denver Broncos and most of their starters played. Left tackle D.J. Humphries, receiver Marquise Brown and running back James Conner all suited up and warmed up but did not play in the opener.

The Arizona Cardinals fell to 4-10 Sunday afternoon and were mathematically eliminated from postseason contention with a 24-15 loss to the Denver Broncos.

It wasn’t a good game at all.

The Cardinals were terrible offensively and then terrible defensively in the second half.

They turned the ball over and suffered more injuries.

There wasn’t much to be happy about in the Cardinals’ loss to the Broncos on Sunday.

FINAL SCORE: Colt McCoy knocked out of game in 24-15 Cardinals loss

Colt McCoy was knocked out of the game with a concussion, the Cardinals turned the ball over three times and amassed only 240 yards.

The Arizona Cardinals fell to 4-10 on the season Sunday afternoon after a 24-15 loss to the Denver Broncos. Already playing without starting quarterback Kyler Murray, backup Colt McCoy was knocked out of the game in the third quarter with a concussion.

The Cardinals led 9-3 at halftime and allowed 21 unanswered second-half points, turning the ball over three times.

They mustered only 240 yards of total offense.

McCoy suffered a concussion in the third quarter. Beachum was hurt on the same play.

The Arizona Cardinals had to turn to third-string quarterback Trace McSorley in the second half against the Denver Broncos.

On their opening possession of the second half, Colt McCoy ran the ball to pick up a first down on third down, but when he dove, he landed on right tackle Kelvin Beachum’s leg.

McCoy went down and Beachum went down.

Beachum suffered a knee and ankle injury. The team announced he was questionable to return.

McCoy was ruled out with a concussion.

Trace McSorley entered the game to replace McCoy with no other quarterback active for the game. Cody Ford replaced Beachum at right tackle.

After the injuries, the Cardinals got a 55-yard field goal to take a 9-3 lead.

Beachum returned to the game later in the third quarter.

First half of Cardinals-Broncos an offensive stinkfest

The Cardinals had only 87 yards of offense in a 6-3 lead while the Broncos had 126.

Both teams had turnovers. Cardinals quarterback Colt McCoy was intercepted by Justin Simmons.

Broncos quarterback Brett Rypien fumbled and was sacked six times in the first half.

The Broncos sacked McCoy twice.

The Broncos missed a field goal.

McCoy’s passer rating in the first half was 43.5.

The Cardinals were winning, but it was nearly unwatchable.
