Seth Lundy injured in Penn State’s romp of Canisius

Penn State lost Seth Lundy to an injury in a blowout home win of Canisius on Sunday.

After getting off to a hot start on Sunday afternoon, [autotag]Seth Lundy[/autotag]’s day was cut short due to an injury that left him on crutches. Despite losing Lundy to an injury, Penn State had no problem blowing away a struggling Canisius program to improve to 8-3 on the season. Penn State used a big second-half outburst to pull away from Canisius in a 97-67 victory in the Bryce Jordan Center on Sunday afternoon.

Head coach [autotag]Micah Shrewsberry[/autotag] said after the game he did have any specific updates on the status of Lundy but did say he hopes it is nothing too serious. Shrewsberry suggested if the injury was serious, that Lundy may not have returned to watch the rest of the game on the Penn State bench.

As may have been expected, Penn State did start the game a little rusty after having the last week off since their upset road win at Illinois. Canisius jumped out to a 20-11 lead seven minutes into the game before Penn State established a rhythm. Lundy had 10 points and six rebounds in 13 minutes before leaving the game with an injury, but [autotag]Jalen Pickett[/autotag] picked things up to get the Nittany Lions moving in the right direction. Pickett highlighted a 17-8 run by connecting on eight of nine shots in a four-minute span to tie the game at 28-28.

The defense tightened things up as well as Canisius hit a dry spell with their shots as Penn State was taking control. A quick outburst to start the second half really helped to put the clamps down on Canisius and [autotag]Andrew Funk[/autotag] lit up the three-point line in the midst of a 22-2 run to put Penn State up 64-38 six minutes into the second half. Funk ended the game with five three-pointers made.

This is the fourth time this season Penn State has scored at least 90 points in a game. The 97 points scored on Sunday is a season-high for the program.

Next up for the Nittany Lions is another home game on Thursday night. Penn Strate will host Quinnipiac for an 8:30 p.m. tipoff on Big Ten Network.

Penn State vs. Canisius basketball: TV and live stream info for Sunday

Watching NFL football today? Throw Penn State vs. Canisius men’s basketball on the second screen.

After a week off, Penn State men’s basketball is back in action on Sunday. After a massive day of college basketball action on Saturday, Penn State will take its home court once again on Sunday afternoon to host Canisius. Penn State could have a little rust to knock off as it returns to game action, but Canisius could be just the right opponent to allow Penn State to dust off some cobwebs and get back in a groove as the season begins to hit its high gear moving forward.

Here is how to catch all of the action Sunday afternoon.

Penn State hockey: Things fall apart in third period in loss to Canisius

Penn State hockey has had better third periods than the one they experienced against Canisius

After a season-opening sweep to begin the season, the Penn State men’s hockey team looks to remain undefeated as they began a weekend series against Canisius Golden Griffins from Pegula Ice Arena.

Both teams had some chances to score but both goalies were up for the test and it would be a scoreless first period.

In the second period, Canisius got the scoring started. Penn State would respond back on Goal from Kevin Wall to tie things up at 1-1.

The third period was when things just went wrong for the Nittany Lions with sloppy play and, at times, getting outplayed in their own end. Canisius would burn the Nittany Lions with three goals for a 4-1 win and give the Nittany Lions their first loss on the season.

“Give Canisius a ton of credit for playing a great game, they beat us, absolutely,” Penn State head coach Guy Gadowsky said in his postgame comments. “They beat us physically, I thought they played to their identity much better than we did and I think it was a great lesson for us.”

“I honestly felt like we wanted a cute game and we’ve gone through that attitude in the past and had to change it and hopefully this is a really good lesson because we’re not a cute team, but we played like we wanted to be tonight,” Gadowsky went on to say.

A look inside the opposing locker room told the story. Canisius was the team ready to seize the moment. Penn State was clearly not.

Penn State continues building basketball roster through transfer portal

Micah Shrewsberry continues to build his first roster in Happy Valley through college basketball’s transfer portal.

As we know, the transfer portal has been the big storyline for both football and basketball as players can choose to go to another school to finish their education and keep their playing career going.

On Friday, Penn State men’s basketball would add to their roster as they picked up grad transfer Jalanni White from Canisius through the transfer portal.

“We are excited that Jalanni decided to join our family,” Penn State men’s basketball coach Micah Shrewsberry said in a released statement. “He is an experienced player who will fit in nicely with our current group. His toughness, skill, length and athleticism will help us become a better team on both the offensive and defensive ends of the floor.”

Jalanni White played in 98 games and made 50 starts. In his time at Canisius, White averaged 5.1 points and 2.6 rebounds per game.

Penn State now has 11 players on scholarship, with two spots left to fill if possible before the start of the first basketball season under Shrewsberry. Shrewsberry has been busy tapping into the transfer portal to fill spots on his first roster in Happy Valley, so do not be surprised if he pulls another player or two out of the portal before the first tipoff of the 2021-22 season.
