MSU picks up second commitment in 2025 recruiting class in 4-star Cam Ward

Michigan State basketball has added a major piece to it’s 2025 recruiting class, earning the commitment of 4-star Cam Ward. The Spartans won the recruitment over a final three that also included Kansas State, Maryland and Virginia.

A Largo, Maryland native, Ward is a 6-foot-7, 210 pound wing. He currently ranks as the No. 50 overall player in the 2025 recruiting class according to 247Sports composite rankings.

Ward joins fellow DMV wing Jordan Scott as members of the Spartans 2025 recruiting class.

Cam Ward has played his way into the conversation for the top QB prospect in the 2025 NFL Draft, as well as the Heisman Trophy. The Miami Hurricanes quarterback helped himself on both counts in Saturday’s fun-to-watch road win at Louisville.

Ward kept up his torrid pace, carving up the Cardinals secondary with 319 yards and four touchdowns, completing 21 of his 32 passes. Several of those throws came after buying some time against a good Louisville pass rush, with Ward showing deft patience. He flashed the mobility with a 22-yard run as well.

The poised presence is what NFL teams want to see from Ward. Making good decisions under pressure and counterpunching effectively is exactly what propelled Ward and the Hurricanes to the 52-45 road win to remain unbeaten.

Seven of Ward’s passes wound up in the hands of slot receiver extraordinaire Xavier Restrepo, netting 101 yards and a touchdown.

With Hurricanes legend Michael Irvin prominently on the sideline, Restrepo was outstanding. The Cardinals defense could not cover him. The 5-foot-10 Restrepo showed quickness off the snap and instant change-of-direction ability to go with his strong hands and preternatural toughness in tight areas.

Even on a play where Ward was under heavy pressure, the duo still connected for one of the best highlights of the weekend,

 

Ignore the obvious holding penalty on standout Louisville EDGE Ashton Gillotte (like the officials did) and appreciate the timing and chemistry between the Hurricanes duo. It’s very reminiscent of Jordan Love to Jayden Reed with the Packers.

About those hands…

 

Ward’s first season at Miami has shown he can operate quite effectively in a more NFL-friendly offense, and Restrepo’s NFL-style route running from the slot have played a big role in that.

CBS Sports midseason All-America team includes four ACC players

Four ACC players were named to CBS Sports’ midseason All-American rosters, including Miami quarterback Cam Ward.

The college football season has reached the halfway point, a perfect time to take a step back and evaluate which players are on track to earn All-America consideration this year.

While the landscape of the sport is dominated by two conferences, the SEC and the Big Ten, the ACC did manage to sneak four players onto CBS Sports’ midseason All-America teams, with all four coming from different teams.

Interestingly the Clemson Tigers, considered by many to be the best team in the conference, did not land anyone on the list – although the league’s worst team in Florida State did.

The only offensive player on the list is Miami Hurricanes quarterback Cam Ward, a fully deserving candidate who is also second on ESPN’s list of the top 25 players in the sport, just behind Boise State running back Ashton Jeanty.

Ward has thrown for over 2,200 yards with 20 touchdowns this year, and his presence is a critical reason Mario Cristobal’s team is nationally relevant for the first time in two decades.

A pair of defensive stars also crack both the All-American roster and ESPN’s top 25 list: Defensive end Donovan Ezeiruaku from Boston College and defensive back Nohl Williams at Cal.

Ezeiruaku is No. 18 in ESPN’s ranking, racking up nine sacks to lead all power conference teams. He’s also tops in QB hurries (14) and pressures (26) and is a big part of Boston College’s success this season. At this pace, he could top the ACC single-season sack record, set by former BC star Harold Landry.

Williams is No. 24 at ESPN and for good reason. The senior defensive back has an NCAA leading six interceptions, three times as many as he had last year for the Golden Bears.

Finally, the only ACC player named to the All-American roster who was not in ESPN’s top 25 is Alex Mastromanno – Florida State’s punter.

I’m not sure if it’s more embarrassing to not have anyone on the All-American roster or to only have your punter, but either way it’s not a great sign for the happenings at Florida State this season.

That’s not to take anything away from Mastromanno, who leads the country in total punting yards (1,527) and also yards per punt (49.3) through six games on the season.

With most teams playing six more games this year, the All-American rosters will certainly change. But this gives fans a good look at who have been the best players in the ACC – and all of college football – at the halfway mark of the season.

Four-star power forward Cam Ward will announce his college commitment on October 22. The commitment will be live on the 247Sports channel, according to Adam Finkelstein.

Ward ranks as the No. 11 power forward in 247Sports’ rankings for the 2025 class. He is also listed as the No. 50 overall prospect in 247Sports’ composite rankings.

Ward’s four finalists are Michigan State, Maryland, Virginia and Kansas State. At this time, Ward is projected to end up at Michigan State with a pair of crystal ball predictions in their favor.

Michigan State could be adding another big-time prospect from the DMV to its 2025 class soon.

On Thursday, Michigan State picked up a commitment from Virginia native four-star small forward Jordan Scott. And it now appears that the Spartans will add another big-time prospect in four-star power forward Cam Ward.

Michigan State picked up a 247Sports crystal ball prediction in their favor for Ward on Thursday. The crystal ball prediction came from a Maryland insider.

Ward ranks as the No. 11 power forward in 247Sports’ rankings for the 2025 class. He’s also listed as the No. 50 overall prospect in 247Sports’ composite rankings.

Ward is set to announce his college decision on October 30. He recently announced his four finalists are Michigan State, Maryland, Virginia and Kansas State.

Maryland basketball fans are getting frustrated by Tom Izzo’s recent recruiting successes on their home turf

Michigan State basketball landed a big commitment on Thursday night from 4-star small forward Jordan Scott. They are rumored to be closing in on a commitment from 4-star power forward Cam Ward. Both players are from the DMV area and both players were also offered and a big priority for Maryland.

This would be a big victory by Tom Izzo and Co. if he’s able to grab two top prospects from his Big Ten opponent’s noses, and Maryland fans are starting to get frustrated.

Michigan State basketball hosted 4-star small forwards Cam Ward and Jordan Scott on official visits this past weekend, making a push to land both 4-star prospects. The Spartans are in good shape for Scott and are looking to do the same for Ward.

Now, Ward is down to four schools and the Spartans are in the mix to land the highly rated small forward. Alongside MSU, Kansas State, Maryland and Virginia were listed in Ward’s top four.

Ward is a 6-foot-8 small forward from Upper Marlboro, Maryland.

Michigan State hosted two highly-rated prospects in the 2025 class this weekend for official visits.

Four-star power forward Cam Ward and four-star small forward Jordan Scott both took official visits to Michigan State this past weekend. The two are considered high-priority targets for the Spartans in the 2025 class.

Ward ranks as the No. 11 power forward and No. 54 overall prospect in 247Sports’ rankings for the class. According to 247Sports, he’s strongly considering Michigan State, Maryland, Kansas State, Florida State and Marquette, with a planned commitment date of October 30.

Scott ranks as the No. 11 small forward and No. 52 overall prospect in 247Sports’ rankings for the 2025 class. He’s down to just three schools he’s considering at this time: Maryland, Virginia Tech and Michigan State. A commitment date has not been set yet, according to 247Sports.

Where Georgia QB Carson Beck’s 2025 NFL Draft stock stands ahead of Week 6

Carson Beck’s 2025 NFL Draft stock shouldn’t take a huge hit, even following the disappointing loss to Alabama.

Carson Beck and the Georgia Bulldogs suffered their first loss of the season on Saturday when they fell 41-34 to the Alabama Crimson Tide on the road.

The performance marked the worst this season so far for Beck, who came into the year largely considered to be the best quarterback, and perhaps even the best prospect, in the nation.

Despite the three interceptions, though, Beck actually finished out with an otherwise admirable stat line, completing 27 of his 50 passing attempts fort 439 yards with three touchdowns and three interceptions.

He impressed particularly with the way he was able to help the offense pick things back up after trailing 30-7 at the half.

If anything, that might have been what caught the attention of scouts more than some of the ill-advised decisions he did make.

“What he did from first half to second half was really impressive because with what happened to him in the first half, there’s not many people that can overcome that,” an NFL scouting source told CBS Sports in a recent report from the network. “It’s hard. He looked much looser in the second half. He gave his players a chance to make plays. So if anything, he helped himself because you’re going to make mistakes in the NFL.

“You’re going to have a bad quarter. You’re going to have a bad half. But are you going to let it turn into a bad game? The snowball effect can’t happen at quarterback. It’s got to be stopped at some point. He did a good job of that. He nipped it in the bud and turned things around.”

One question that now remains is as to whether or not Beck’s draft stock should take a large plunge from top dog after a performance that featured some of the mistakes that this one did, and in reality, it’s way too early to tell.

For now, there’s still plenty to like about Beck’s performance as a quarterback, what he brings to the table from a tangibles and an intangibles perspective, and the resiliency he’s shown.

The rest of the season will tell the story of whether Alabama may truly be the best team in the nation, making it the toughest opponent for all of CFB to go up against, and if those interceptions said more about Beck or the Alabama defense that has shown improvement in its secondary in a big way here.

Beck’s road to the draft will continue Saturday as the team faces the visiting Auburn Tigers in Sanford Stadium at 3:30 p.m. ET.

Dushawn London of 247Sports reported on Thursday evening that four-star power forward Cam Ward is “currently” on an official visit to Michigan State. Ward is from Upper Marlboro, Md. and is strongly considering Michigan State.

Ward ranks as the No. 11 power forward in 247Sports’ rankings for the 2025 class. He’s also listed as the No. 50 overall prospect in 247Sports’ composite rankings for the class.

Michigan State is one of the top contenders for Ward’s commitment, according to 247Sports. Other programs still in the running includes Maryland, Florida State, Marquette, Notre Dame and Kansas State.

Ward is expected to announce his college decision on October 30.
