Lakers are reportedly interested in forward Cam Reddish

Cam Reddish, a young forward with 3-and-D potential, appears to be on the Lakers’ radar.

The Los Angeles Lakers’ efforts to trade Russell Westbrook continue with the calendar heading toward September.

Their options have been limited with Kyrie Irving apparently off the table, which may actually be a good thing in the sense that they can focus on their only viable option.

That option may be some form of a deal involving multiple teams, and those teams could include the Indiana Pacers, Utah Jazz and the New York Knicks.

The Knicks don’t have many players Los Angeles seems interested in; Julius Randle doesn’t seem to be a player it would want to take back.

But there is another New York forward the Lakers are intrigued by.

Via New York Post:

“According to a source, the Lakers are open to discussions and still are interested in forward Cam Reddish.”

Reddish is an interesting prospect. At 6-foot-8 and nearly 220 pounds, he can play both forward spots, and he has been thought to have potential as a 3-and-D player, the type of role player the Lakers need more of, especially in the frontcourt.

But Reddish hasn’t put it together yet in three NBA seasons. His 3-point shooting has fluctuated, as he shot 37.9% from beyond the arc in 34 games with the Atlanta Hawks last year but fell to 25.8% after being sent to the Knicks.

Report: Atlanta Hawks discussed swapping Marcus Smart for Kevin Huerter, Cam Reddish; will take ‘significant value’ to move Boston guard

Bleacher Report’s Jake Fischer relates that it is “unclear how far that dialogue progressed.”

The Boston Celtics have been by all accounts busy on the phones looking for potential trades to make the team better ahead of the Feb. 10 trade deadline, and Marcus Smart has reportedly been one of the more common names mentioned in such calls, per multiple accounts.

One such instance was reported by Bleacher Report’s Jake Fischer, who relates his sources as saying that before “Atlanta sent (Cam) Reddish to New York, the Hawks and Celtics discussed a framework that would have swapped Marcus Smart for Kevin Heurter and Reddish”. Fischer adds that it is “unclear how far that dialogue progressed.”

“It’s a few weeks before the deadline, so it seems only fitting that Marcus Smart’s name has once again percolated in trade talk,” explains the B/R reporter, which makes sense given he’s Boston’s best movable talent for a franchise widely seen as likely to be active at the deadline.

Report: Lakers offered two second-round picks for Hawks’ Cam Reddish

The Los Angeles Lakers reportedly offered picks for Atlanta Hawks wing Cam Reddish, but it wasn’t enough.

The Atlanta Hawks Thursday traded young wing Cam Reddish to the New York Knicks, but the Los Angeles Lakers were reportedly also in the mix.

Atlanta dealt the 2019 No. 10 overall pick in exchange for a 2022 top-18 protected first-round pick, along with other moving parts. But the big piece Atlanta sought for Reddish was a first-round selection.

According to Fred Katz and Chris Kirschner of The Athletic, the Lakers offered two second-round picks, which wasn’t enough:

The front office had conversations with the Pacers, Lakers, Cavaliers and Pistons over the past several months, sources say, but the Hawks were always waiting for that first-round pick for Reddish.

Recently, The Athletic learned that the Lakers had offered two second-rounders for Reddish. Still, the Hawks believed a team would eventually offer the first-round pick they sought.

Reddish played 23.4 minutes per game with the Hawks and averaged 11.9 points, 2.5 rebounds, 1.1 assists and 1.0 steals while shooting 40.2% overall and 37.9% from deep.

The 22-year-old wing is touted as a 3-and-D player, though his defensive metrics can certainly improve. He would’ve been a solid addition that would’ve improved the young depth on the Lakers, but L.A. didn’t part ways with its 2027 or 2028 first-round picks. Both could be used down the line to entice a team for more proven talent.

Report: Knicks rejected Hawks’ trade offer for rookie Quentin Grimes

The Hawks reportedly wanted to acquire Grimes in the deal involving Cam Reddish on Thursday.

On Thursday, the New York Knicks reportedly agreed to acquire Cam Reddish from the Atlanta Hawks in exchange for Kevin Knox and a protected 2022 first-round pick, according to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN.

Reddish, in his third year, saw a smaller role with the Hawks this season with a crowded depth chart at the wing position. The Hawks worked to move Reddish as a result to a team that could offer him a larger role and contract extension this summer.

The Knicks also acquired Solomon Hill and a 2025 second-round pick.

Prior to settling on Kevin Knox, the Hawks had initially targeted rookie Quentin Grimes, the 25th pick. However, some within the Knicks’ front office were opposed to moving Grimes and the team ultimately decided to trade Knox instead, according to Ian Begley of SNY.

With the trade, Reddish will now have the opportunity to see a larger role and help the Knicks stay in the playoff picture in the Eastern Conference. He will reunite with former Duke teammate R.J. Barrett as the two were close friends during their time in college.

The Knicks certainly believe Grimes has a bright future after opting against trading him. He had mostly played sparingly with the Knicks but recently saw a larger role due to multiple injuries and players entering the health and safety protocol.

Grimes produced a career-high 27 points on Dec. 12 in a loss to the Milwaukee Bucks but was placed into the protocol himself the following day. Since returning on Christmas Day, Grimes is averaging 6.7 points and 2.1 rebounds in 21.1 minutes across 10 appearances.

Cam Reddish trade grades: Who won the Knicks and Hawks deal?

Who won this deal?

Cam Reddish, who was selected with the No. 10 overall pick in the 2019 NBA draft, is headed from the Atlanta Hawks to the New York Knicks.

Reddish is extension eligible this summer and if the Hawks weren’t going to give him a deal that he wanted, he’ll now have an opportunity to prove to the Knicks that he is worth whatever money he is seeking.

Meanwhile, New York’s front office decided it was time to punt on 2018 NBA draft lottery pick Kevin Knox. That’s not exactly shocking considering  Knox was drafted when Steve Mills still ran the front office; now that Leon Rose is in charge, he is putting his own players in place.

This deal swaps two young players on teams that faced each other in the first round of the most recent Eastern Conference postseason. But who won and who lost the trade? As usual, here are our grades for each side of the deal.

The Knicks reunited Duke teammates Cam Reddish and R.J. Barrett, so NBA fans want Zion Williamson to join them

Everyone made the same comment on Twitter.

The New York Knicks brought together two of the centerpieces of the 2018-19 Duke team that made it all the way to the regional finals of the ’19 NCAA tournament before losing to Michigan State.

Cam Reddish is now a Knick, with the Atlanta Hawks dealing the small forward to New York. That pairs him with his former Blue Devils teammates R.J. Barrett, who’s coming off of the best two-game stretch of his career.

The third player we’re talking about here? Zion Williamson of course.

Williamson is currently on the mend from foot surgery … and, more importantly, is still a member of the New Orleans Pelicans. That didn’t stop everyone from hoping for a reunion:

Four potential Boston Celtics targets as the 2021-22 trade market begins to heat up

Recent reports suggest these players could be on the move.

With December 15th just around the corner and many if not most teams in the league interested as the Boston Celtics likely are in making moves on the trade market to improve their fortunes in the 2021-22 season and beyond, trade rumors are beginning to percolate.

On Monday, The Athletic’s NBA Insider Shams Charania reported on the state of the trade market ahead of Wednesday’s trade restriction expiry date, and a handful of potential trade targets who might be a good fit for what the Celtics need stood out. Boston will of course have to compete against the offers of an unknown number of teams which could drive up an ask, but there’s a good chance the roster looks considerably different before the 2022 NBA trade deadline passes, if not sooner.

Let’s take a look at some of the better options for the Celtics discussed by Charania.

Interesting NBA teams you should add to your League Pass watch list

With the start of the 2020-21 NBA season upon us, there are several teams that look quite a bit different than when we last saw them.

Especially while watching the teams that were good last season, it can be an overwhelming experience to track the year-over-year roster changes for teams that restructured. Of course, most fans are going to pay close attention to the teams that are favored to win the championship.

But as you decide what games to watch if you subscribe to NBA League Pass, you should seriously consider tuning in to these teams that may not have been on your radar last season.
