Highlighting 5 top Ohio high school football recruit performances

Here is a glimpse of how the top high school prospects in Ohio played.

All though we are still waiting anxiously for the Ohio State football team to kick off its football season, Ohio high schools around the state have at least broken the seal, and we wanted to provide a breakdown on how some of the top prospects have played.

If you follow us here at Buckeyes Wire you know how much we love Gabe Powers, but unfortunately, Marysville High School does not kick off their season until next week. There is still a ton of exciting talent and we will highlight where the prospect is currently committed as well.

Here are some of the most notable performances from Friday under the lights in the great state of Ohio.

Ohio State commit C.J. Hicks gets bumped to a five-star prospect

Ohio State 2022 linebacker commit C.J. Hicks got a bump to five-star status according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings.

Ohio State 2022 linebacker commit C.J. Hicks has made it to rarefied air. There aren’t that many football prospects that get tagged as a five-star prospect. In fact, there’s only a total of 37 for the class of 2022, and that now includes Hicks.

The 6-foot, 4-inch, 218-pounder from Archbishop Alter in Dayton committed to the Buckeyes in early May as a high four-star, but now he’s been bumped up, with a coveted five-stars now appearing next to his name according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings.

With the update, Hicks is now ranked as the No. 3 outside linebacker and 18th overall prospect in the class. His elevation to five-star status now means that Ohio State has four 5-stars in the 2022 class of the eleven currently committed verbally.

Congrats to an Ohio product, and hopefully it’s nothing but up from here. OSU still has the No. 1 rated class for 2022, but the Georgia Bulldogs are closing fast.

Boom! Ohio State gets commitment from 4-star 2022 DB C.J. Hicks

The beat goes on for Ohio State football’s recruiting efforts. Four-star DB C.J. Hicks announced his commitment for the 2022 class Friday.

The recruiting engine at Ohio State continues to hum right along.

Despite being in the middle of a dead period because of all the measures put in place because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Buckeyes have landed several high-profile recruits and have outpaced the college football world, all the way towards a clear No. 1 ranking in the 2021 class according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings.

Now, OSU has just added another, this one from 4-star defensive back C.J. Hicks. But it’s not for the 2021 class, but for the 2022 one that’s already beginning to take shape. Hicks is 6-foot, 4-inches, and 215 pounds, and is out of Dayton’s Archbishop Alter High School.

He impressed the OSU staff during a summer camp last June, but wasn’t officially offered until April 7.

As with most all 2022 prospects, it’s too early to look at where he ranks composite wise, but according to 247Sports own rankings, he is considered the No. 15 “athlete,” and No. 162 overall recruit in the entire class. He’s also listed as the 3rd best available in the state of Ohio.

Hicks’ commitment is now the third one for the class of 2022, one that is also off to a very good start. He had been waiting for an offer from the program, and once it came, it was time to jump.
