3 keys to a Jets victory in Week 10 against the Cardinals

3 keys to a Jets victory in Week 10 against the Cardinals

The New York Jets will hope to add a win to their record in 2024 in Week 10 on the road when they face the Arizona Cardinals.

As usual, it will never be a walk in the park in the NFL. If the Jets (3-6) expect to beat the Cardinals (5-4), there will be a few key things New York will have to focus on against Arizona.

Here are three keys to the Jets pulling out a victory against the Cardinals:

Stop The Run

(USAT)

While The Jets were victorious in Week 9 over Houston, their run defense continues to struggle as the Texans rushed for close to 200 yards on the ground. Arizona has an underrated running back in James Conner, who already has four games with over 100 yards rushing, and is averaging over 4.5 yards a carry.

The Jets defense has given up an average of 132.6 yards on the ground this season and it could be a long afternoon if they don’t find a way to shut down Conner and the Cardinals running game.

Contain Kyler Murray

(Imagn)

Murray has been average at best this season, but that doesn’t mean he won’t make an impact when given the opportunity.

The Jets defense has a tendency to over pursue on the pass rush, which could free up plenty of field for the Arizona QB to hurt them with his legs. New York’s linebackers will need to be more disciplined, especially along the sidelines, and force Murray into more passing situation, where he’s been very inconsistent.

Play Four Quarters of Football

(Getty)

It felt like more of the same with the Jets during the first half of last week’s win over Houston.

They struggled on offense, relied too much on their defense to keep the game from getting out of hand and when they finally got some points on the board, another self-inflicted wound negated the touchdown after receiver Malachi Corley dropped the ball before crossing the goal line.

The Jets offense woke up in the second half, scoring three times to beat the Texans and keep their season alive. New York has zero margin for error the rest of the way and they cannot afford to have another slow start on offense.  Arizona’s defense has struggled this season, allowing an average of 361.4 yards of total offense, including an average of 228.6 yards through the air.  This is a winnable game for the New York if they play complete football on both sides of the ball for both halves instead of just one.

Massive brawl breaks out near end of Defenders’ win over Battlehawks in XFL 2023

A wild finish to the Defenders’ XFL win over the Battlehawks saw both teams in a fight

The XFL game between the St. Louis Battlehawks and D.C. Defenders was chippy throughout Sunday. It turned into a full-fledged WWE melee at the end of the Defenders’ 34-28 victory.

After the Battlehawks scored to close within 6, they attempted the make-it-take-it option of converting a fourth-and-15, the league’s alternative to onside kicks.

AJ McCarron of St. Louis was sacked and all hell broke loose.

Both teams were on the field. Fists were flying, and so was a helmet. Three players were ejected.

In the actual game, the Battlehawks erased a double-digit deficit for the third straight game but four turnovers proved their undoing.

Jordan Ta’amu ran for a touchdown and threw for one as the Defenders remained undefeated.

McCarron passed for 262 yards and 4 touchdowns. He also threw 2 picks.

Touchdown Wire gives Seahawks 2020 NFL Draft Class C- grade

After looking at all eight picks selected, Touchdown Wire editor Doug Farrar gives the Seattle Seahawks’ 2020 NFL Draft Class a C- grade.

The Seattle Seahawks addressed a number of holes during the 2020 NFL Draft, selecting eight new players to the roster for the upcoming season.

After taking a look at the teams’ picks from around the league, USA TODAY’s Touchdown Wire editor Doug Farrar has put together his final grades.

Farrar awards the Seahawks a measly C- for their efforts in this year’s draft.

“Death, taxes, and the Seahawks taking somebody nobody expected in the first round – if they don’t trade out,” Farrar writes. “If you had Texas Tech linebacker Jordyn Brooks as a first-round guy and your name isn’t Pete Carroll or John Schneider, raise your hand? It’s an interesting gambit for a team with Bobby Wagner and K.J. Wright on their roster, but remember that the Seahawks played a three-linebacker base more than any other team.”

“Brooks is a natural run-stopper, but his coverage limitations make him an iffy first-round guy… for any other team,” Farrar continues. “Carroll and Schneider were very high on second-round edge-rusher Darrell Taylor from Tennessee, and it’s easy to see why when you see the kind of strength, leverage, and gap versatility Taylor brings to the table. Miami running back DeeJay Dallas could be the sleeper of this group with his power and receiving ability.”

With the virtual offseason set to kick off Monday morning, it might be months before we can actually take a look at any of the rookies on the field. Grades can change over the season and often do. It looks like Seattle only has room to go up.

Draft Wire grades Seahawks’ selection of Jordyn Brooks as a C-minus

Luke Easterling of USA TODAY’s Draft Wire believes the Seattle Seahawks reached in their selection of linebacker Jordyn Brooks at No. 27.

For the first time since 2011, the Seattle Seahawks stuck with their original pick in the first round of the draft instead of trading back. With the No. 27 overall selection, the Seahawks selected linebacker Jordyn Brooks out of Texas Tech.

Luke Easterling of USA TODAY’s Draft Wire was not impressed with the decision. He gives Seattle a C-minus grade.

“The Seahawks always know how to keep us all guessing, but usually, it’s by trading out of the first round entirely,” Easterling notes. “Recent surprise picks like Rashaad Penny and L.J. Collier should have tipped us off that a selection like this could be coming.”

Easterling believes Seattle had a shot to take Brooks in the second round and should have filled a more glaring hole on the roster.

“Brooks is a solid player, but this is about a full round sooner than I would have taken him,” Easterling continues. “The Seahawks have bigger needs elsewhere on both sides of the ball, and there were plenty of worthy prospects at any number of those positions. If they wanted a linebacker, LSU’s Patrick Queen would have been the better value. Brooks has promise, for sure, but this was too early.”
