Adam Schein’s top-9 prime-time games has this Bucs match at No. 2

Adam Schein over at NFL.com listed his top-9 prime-time games for 2020, and had this Buccaneers game at No. 2.

The NFL released it’s schedule for the 2020 season on Thursday, and not surprisingly, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers find themselves being featured in five prime-time games, the maximum number allowed.

When you sign a future Hall of Famer in Tom Brady, you can expect the national spotlight to be on you all season. Fortunately, the Bucs seem up to the task. With an up-and-coming defense that added a potential star in the draft in safety Antoine Winfield Jr., coupled with an offense that tied for third in scoring last year, the Bucs will provide excitement for NFL fans all season.

Adam Schein over at NFL.com ranked his top nine prime-time games for 2020, and at No. 2 he had the Buccaneers hosting the New Orleans Saints in Week 9.

Per Schein:

“While these two teams are set to duke it out on the opening Sunday afternoon of the season, this Week 9 date in Tampa is the one that gets prime-time treatment. Hoo-boy, I can’t wait for Al Michaels and Cris Collinsworth to get on this call. Currently ranked first and second in all-time touchdown passes, Brady (547 TDs) and Brees (541) have actually only locked horns five times, with Brees holding a 3-2 edge. (Two of those wins came when Brees was a Charger.) The last time they did battle, back in Week 2 of the 2017 season, Brady got a 36-20 win while the two field generals combined for 803 yards, five touchdowns and zero interceptions through the air.”

I ranked the Bucs’ prime-time games recently, and to be quite honest, I’m shocked Schein doesn’t have more Tampa Bay games on his list. He has three separate Cowboys games on there. Three! How are they more interesting than Tom Brady and the Bucs? Cowboys at Rams is not more exciting than Bucs at Raiders facing off against Jon Gruden.

Agree to disagree with Schein on his overall list, but there’s no doubt the Saints-Bucs prime-time game will be a ratings bonanza for the NFL.

Ranking the Bucs’ 5 prime-time games

Take a look at the five prime-time games for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2020.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers, like the rest of the NFL, learned what their upcoming season looked like last night when the league officially released the 2020 schedule.

Not surprisingly, the Buccaneers will be featured in five prime-time games this season, the maximum number allowed, including three-straight. That’s the price you pay (or reward you receive) when you get a guy like Tom Brady.

Earlier this week, I wrote about which out-of-division games we’d like to see on prime-time with the Bucs. Now that we know what the five games will be, let’s rank them from least exciting to most.

Tom Brady wants you to wake him up ‘When September Ends’

Buccaneers QB Tom Brady took to Instagram yesterday to celebrate the release of the team’s 2020 regular-season schedule.

The 2020 NFL schedule was released last night, and for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the Tom Brady era will kick off with a bang — in the Superdome against Drew Brees and the New Orleans Saints.

The Bucs will play five prime-time games this season, including a Super Bowl XXXVII rematch against the now-Las Vegas Raiders and their head coach Jon Gruden, who coached the Bucs to victory in their Super Bowl win.

Brady has plenty of experience playing in big games, but this will be the first time in two decades he’ll be playing for a new coach and a new organization. The six-time Super Bowl champion seems excited about the next chapter in his career, and took to Instagram yesterday to post the schedule along with Green Day’s hit song “Wake Me up When September Ends.”

Take a look at a screenshot from his story below.

Bucs opening the season at Saints puts this Tom Brady streak in jeopardy

With the Tampa Bay Buccaneers set to open their season on the road against the Saints, this impressive Tom Brady streak may come to an end.

The Buccaneers found out their schedule for 2020 last night, and the Tom Brady era in Tampa Bay isn’t going to start off easy as the Bucs open the season at the Saints, pitting Brady against New Orleans quarterback Drew Brees.

The NFL couldn’t have asked for a better scenario than Brady joining the same division as Brees this offseason, and while the game itself will likely be the most talked about leading up to Week 1, the Bucs opening on the road in the Superdome could very well end this impressive Tom Brady streak in the process.

Per ESPN:

“Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers opened as 6.5-point underdogs in their Week 1 road game against the New Orleans Saints, according to Caesars Sportsbook. Brady has been favored in his past 74 regular-season starts. It’s the longest such streak in the Super Bowl era, according to ESPN Stats & Information research, and it appears to be in jeopardy.”

That line could move between now and Week 1, but barring injury to Brees, I don’t see any way the Bucs enter the game as favorites. Brady may find out the hard way that the NFC South is nothing like the AFC East.

Twitter reacts the Buccaneers’ 2020 schedule

See how Twitter reacted to the the Buccaneers’ 2020 schedule.

The NFL released the 2020 schedule tonight, which means we now know what Year 1 of the Tom Brady era will look like for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

While the Bucs finished just 7-9 last season, they’ll be the talk of the league in 2020 now that Brady is under center. Tampa Bay has championship expectations now. But, looking at the team’s schedule, getting to the postseason for the first time in over a decade certainly isn’t going to be easy, even with a future Hall of Fame quarterback.

Do the Buccaneers have too much star power to be successful?

This stat from the NFL’s research department shows the Bucs may have too many cooks in the kitchen.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are the most exciting team in the NFL heading into 2020, something that would’ve sounded crazy just a year ago.

But after the Bucs’ tumultuous 2019 season, where they saw quarterback Jameis Winston throw for 5,109 yards, 33 touchdowns and 30 interceptions, the team went out and signed six-time Super Bowl champion Tom Brady, who ended his 20-year run with the New England Patriots.

And, the week of the NFL draft, the team traded for retired tight end Rob Gronkowski, adding the future Hall of Fame tight end to a roster that already includes star receivers Mike Evans and Chris Godwin. With all that talent, the Bucs seemed destined for a return to the postseason, right?

Well, not so fast.

There’s no doubting the talent this roster possesses. The question is whether they can make it work on the field. The coronavirus pandemic has made this offseason one unlike any other for NFL players, and for guys like Brady and Gronk who will be joining new teams, a missed offseason could have an impact on how they start out of the gate.

4 non-divisional Bucs games we want to see on prime-time in 2020

With the 2020 schedule set to be released Thursday, take a look at four non-divisional Bucs games we’d love on prime-time.

The Buccaneers will soon find out when they’ll be facing their 2020 opponents when the NFL releases their schedule this Thursday.

The Bucs are coming off a 7-9 season, but are looking to make some noise after a big offseason, which included the signing of Tom Brady and the trade for tight end Rob Gronkowski.

Tampa Bay has their sights set on the postseason for the first time since 2007, but the road to Super Bowl LV in Tampa won’t be an easy one, as the Bucs will face some true heavyweights this coming season.

While you could make a case that every Bucs game should be on prime-time this season, let’s take a look at which four non-divisional games we’d like to see the most.

(Note: The only reason I am excluding the NFC South and teams like the Saints and Falcons is because it goes without saying those games should be on prime-time. There’s no debating that.)

That time the Buccaneers had a bye in Week 1

The NFL is set to release their schedule Thursday, and hopefully, the Bucs won’t have to endure another Week 1 bye.

The NFL will release the 2020 schedule on Thursday night and the Bucs and their fans are eagerly awaiting to see what the season holds for them. While we know Tampa Bay’s slate of opponents won’t make a run at the postseason easy, fans can take comfort in the fact that they likely won’t have as brutal a stretch as they did last season, when they played five-straight games away from Raymond James Stadium, including a London “home” game.

With no international games scheduled for 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic, teams won’t have to deal with the long flights and jet lag. But, issues could still arise at home that could affect a team’s schedule and overall season.

Take 2017 for instance, when both the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Miami Dolphins saw their Week 1 game postponed due to Hurricane Irma, so the bye week the teams were scheduled to have in Week 11 became the date of their game. That meant the the Bucs and Dolphins had to endure 16-straight games without a break. Clearly not an ideal situation, but one the NFL had to make. It turns out, too, it’s not the first time NFL teams have had a bye in Week 1.

Still, no team wants that, especially not the Buccaneers, who will have a 43-year-old quarterback under center. While Tom Brady is in great shape, both mentally and physically, playing 16-straight games would put a strain on even a 20-year-old’s body.

NFL 2020 regular-season schedule coming Thursday night

The Buccaneers know who their 2020 opponents will be, and soon, they’ll know when they’ll face each.

The Tom Brady era in Tampa Bay is set to kick off this fall when the future Hall of Fame quarterback lines up under center for the Buccaneers, and soon, we’ll know exactly what the schedule looks like for the Bucs.

While the schedule, itself, has yet to be released, we do know who the Bucs’ 2020 opponents will be, and let’s just say, it’s not going to be the easiest road to the postseason for Tampa Bay..

Brady and his Bucs will face five teams at home this season with quarterbacks who have played in a Super Bowl. No problem for a guy who’s played in nine Super Bowls, himself, right?

NFL to release full 17-week schedule next week

The NFL plans to release 2020 schedules next week and will move ahead with a full 17 weeks.

While the coronavirus pandemic has put sports around the world on hold, the NFL is still proceeding with the intent of playing a full season in 2020.

Per ESPN:

“The league will release its 2020 schedule late next week without any major changes, league spokesman Brian McCarthy confirmed — including a Sept. 10 opener, the Super Bowl on Feb. 7 and visions of fans in the stands.”

The idea of fully packed stadiums seems like wishful thinking right not, but that’s what they are planning for.

The report also says the league has evaluated contingency plans, such as starting the season in mid-October. The league is also looking into when players can return to team facilities. For someone like Tom Brady, getting into the Bucs facility and working with his new teammates is a vital part of his offseason preparation.
