The Milwaukee Bucks are undoubtedly contenders, primarily due to the superstar duo of Damian Lillard and Giannis Antetokounmpo. However, there are significant concerns that could hinder their path to a deep playoff run. While Lillard and Giannis give the Bucks two of the league’s top talents, questions about injury risks, age, and the competency of head coach Doc Rivers loom large.

Lillard, now 34, has missed 77 games over the past two seasons and sat out Games 5 and 6 in last year’s playoffs. Khris Middleton, another key piece, has also struggled with injuries, missing 76 games in the last two seasons and undergoing surgery on both ankles. Even Giannis, who is typically more durable, dealt with a calf injury that kept him out of the postseason. While they might be able to stay relatively healthy through the regular season, relying on this trio to be at full strength throughout the playoffs is a gamble.

Then there’s the matter of Rivers. Though he has a reputation as a solid regular-season coach, his history of playoff disappointments raises concerns. After taking over midseason last year and posting a 17-19 record, he faced criticism for struggling to implement his system without a full offseason or his preferred coaching staff. Now, with a full training camp and his chosen staff in place, Rivers has no excuses. But the bigger question remains: Has he adapted his coaching style to the modern game? Can he craft a system that balances offense and defense, especially in the playoffs, where the Bucks faltered last year?

Milwaukee’s offseason was relatively quiet compared to other Eastern Conference contenders. They added athleticism through the draft with AJ Johnson and Tyler Smith and found value in Taurean Prince and Gary Trent Jr. on a veteran minimum contracts. But these moves don’t scream “contender.” With a core built around aging stars and a coach with a mixed playoff history, the Bucks may need more than just talent to reclaim their status as one of the East’s elite. Even if they stay healthy and defy Father Time, will Rivers’ system be enough to push them past the second round of the playoffs? That’s the big question hanging over Milwaukee this season.

Report: Wisconsin basketball great Sam Dekker tries out for three NBA teams

Report: Former Wisconsin great Sam Dekker tries out for three NBA teams

Former Wisconsin Badgers great Sam Dekker has recently tried for three NBA teams: the Philadelphia 76ers, Golden State Warriors and Milwaukee Bucks.

This news is courtesy of the CapTimes’ Mike Lucas, who recently caught up with Dekker as he looks to make his return to the NBA.

Dekker has spent the last three seasons overseas after spending part of the 2021 season with the Toronto Raptors. He only spent parts of five campaigns in the NBA after being selected as the No. 18 overall pick in the first round of the 2015 NBA draft.

The majority of his career has been split between the VTB United League in Russia (2019-2020), the Turkish Basketball Super League in Turkey (2020-2021, 2021-2022) and the British Basketball League in England (2022-present).

Dekker’s most recent stop has been by far his most successful. The Wisconsin great led the London Lions to the 2023 British Basketball League Cup championship, earning league and finals MVP honors in the process. His season stat line included 20.8 minutes, 18.2 points, 5.6 rebounds, 2.9 assists and 1.3 steals on 53% shooting.

It appears Dekker has finally recaptured the form that helped him lead the Wisconsin Badgers to two Final Four appearances and one trip to the national championship game.

Given the clear interest showed by some of the league’s top contenders, it appears that the 6-foot, 9-inch small forward is well on his way toward taking his refound game back to the best basketball league in the world.

Milwaukee’s Giannis Antentokounmpo is OUT vs. the Boston Celtics

Jaylen Brown, Jrue Holiday and Sam Hauser are also all questionable for Wednesday night’s game.

Fans of the Boston Celtics who were hoping for an all-out brawl with the Milwaukee Bucks at TD Garden on Wednesday night will be disappointed to hear that star Bucks forward Giannis Antentokounmpo will be sitting out the contest hurt.

On the Celtics side of things, Jaylen Brown, Jrue Holiday and Sam Hauser are also all questionable for Wednesday night’s game. This could very well be a bit of a snoozer as far as the on-court product goes. But the two teams do meet one more time this season if they do want a little more high-level ball to lean on before the start of the 2024 NBA Playoffs.

CLNS Media’s Bobby Manning reports on the situation ahead of the game this evening for the “Garden Report” podcast. Check it out below!

Patrick Beverley called out JJ Redick for his harsh criticisms of Doc Rivers’ terrible start with the Bucks

This Doc Rivers situation just keeps getting messier

If there’s one thing we all know about Patrick Beverley, the dude is never afraid to speak his mind about almost anything.

That’s especially the case when it comes to his team and teammates. He rides hard for the people in his corner. And that’s exactly what he’s doing right now when it comes to the criticisms being thrown at Doc Rivers.

JJ Redick absolutely ripped Rivers on First Take after some of the coach’s comments about his team over the weekend. Rivers said that he had some players who were “in Cabo” before the All-Star break, implying they were ready to go on vacation already. And that’s why the Bucks struggled going into the break.

Redick called Rivers out on that and most fans seemed to actually agree with him.

One person who didn’t, though, was Beverley. He called Redick out for being so critical of Rivers — especially after playing for him during his stint with the Clippers.

“That man Doc actually saved your career. Started you when no one else wanted to. And you retire go on TV and say that”

Spicy. Not shocking, though. Rivers is Beverley’s current head coach. Of course he’s going to defend him. Those are some harsh words for Redick. Saying that Rivers saved his career is a surprising move from Beverley here..

Redick wasn’t letting this slide, though. He pushed back against it completely.

“Pat my guy I had a four year offer with player option for the same money to be a starter for a different team. FOH ‘Saved my career.’

Sheesh. This just got way messier than it needed to be. Thursday needs to hurry up and get here so the Bucks can get back to playing basketball.

Trade rumors: Andrew Wiggins a player in consideration for Bucks

With trade chatter buzzing, another potential suitor has reportedly emerged for a member of the Golden State Warriors.

With the trade deadline days away, one member of the Golden State Warriors has been the subject of different rumors and chatter. Another potential suitor for Andrew Wiggins has been reported after he had been linked to the Indiana Pacers and Dallas Mavericks..

According to Jake Fischer of Yahoo Sports, Wiggins “remains a player in consideration” for the Milwaukee Bucks and Mavericks. Milwaukee veteran forward Bobby Portis was mentioned as a player who could be involved in a potential trade for the Bucks, per Fischer.

Via @JakeFischer on Twitter:

Wiggins has had an up-and-down 2023-24 campaign with the Warriors, averaging a career-low 12.2 points on 43.7% shooting from the floor with 4.2 boards and 1.5 assists per game.

Since landing with the Warriors at the deadline in a trade with the Minnesota Timberwolves, Wiggins has averaged 16.8 points on 46.6% shooting from the floor with 4.6 rebounds and 2.2 assists in 31.6 minutes per game. Along with earning a start in the All-Star game, Wiggins played a key role in Golden State’s championship run in 2022.

The NBA trade deadline is  Thursday, Feb. 8 at noon PT.

NBA Power Rankings: The Warriors are in trouble and the Thunder should terrify the rest of the NBA

The Golden State Warriors look like they’re in some real trouble here.

The NBA’s standings feel like a bizarro world right now.

You’ve got the LA Clippers and Golden State Warriors at the bottom of the Western Conference jockeying for play-in position. Meanwhile, the Minnesota Timberwolves and the Oklahoma City Thunder look like two of the best teams in the league.

Along with that, the Denver Nuggets have dipped quite a bit in recent days and the Bucks are just starting to catch their stride. Meanwhile, the Celtics just keep winning games at the top of the East.

Our latest edition of NBA Power Rankings is here. It’s still early, but a ton of what we’re seeing now feels very real.

Especially the Thunder.
