Bryson Rodgers stands firm with Ohio State commitment

Bryson Rodgers says he locked in with the Buckeyes. #GoBucks

On the same day Ohio State saw its 2023 quarterback question answered in getting a commitment from Brock Glenn, the Buckeyes watched a prized cornerback decommit in Dijon Johnson. It has truly been a rollercoaster of a recruiting season.

Now there is speculation that there are others who may jump ship before signing day. Maybe it’s just nervous fans or maybe where there’s smoke there is fire. Who knows when dealing with 18-year-old kids?

One name that has come up recently as someone who may flip is wide receiver, Bryson Rodgers. Rodgers is good friends with Johnson and so the rumors quickly began soon after it became apparent that Johnson was going to back off his pledge to OSU. But the four-star wide receiver seems to be locked in with the Buckeyes as he responded to a Twitter post saying just that.

That has to give Ohio State fans a bit of relief. Despite the grammar police who will attack Rodgers for a social media typo, the young receiver seems confident in his choice to land in Columbus.

Rodgers joins Brandon Inniss, Noah Rogers, and Carnell Tate in the 2023 class as another impressive haul of wideouts for coach Brian Hartline.

Tigers offer 2023 Ohio State commit

The Tigers are trying to pull a talented Florida wideout away from the Buckeyes.

[autotag]Bryson Rodgers[/autotag] is a 6-foot-2, 170-pound wide receiver from Zephyrhills, Florida, that is currently committed to play at Ohio State. As a junior, Rodgers served as a top target for Iowa State signee Rocco Becht at Wiregrass Ranch High School. He ended up catching 42 passes for 645 yards and 14 TDs in 10 games.

Film Analysis: Rodgers does a lot of things well, but the thing he does better than just about anyone you watch is route running. His ability to run a solid route and create separation is unrivaled. You don’t always have to be the biggest and fastest guy on the field, ask DeVonta Smith. If you can run really good routes, you can make a living at wide receiver.

BOOM! Receiver from the state of Florida commits to Ohio State

Two BOOMs! in one day? #GoBucks

It’s been quite the Easter Sunday for the Ohio State football program and it hasn’t even had to go on a hunt to open up some recruiting Easter eggs. The Buckeyes got good news from a four-star cornerback out of Florida, and also got a verbal commitment from a 3-star wide receiver also out of the sunshine state around the same time on Sunday.

The 6-foot, 2-inch, 170-pound Bryson Rodgers, out of Wiregrass Ranch in Wesley Chapel, Florida, announced his commitment to the Buckeyes on Sunday to add to the haul and boost OSU’s 2023 class to the No. 2 overall ranking according to the 247Sports Composite.

You may be wondering why Rodgers was so smitten with Ohio State. Turns out, he’s originally from Warren, Ohio, and has been a lifelong Buckeye fan. He chose OSU over two SEC schools, Alabama and Georgia.

Ohio State has a lot of momentum with recruiting right now, especially with a core of kids out of Florida who all know each other. We’ll stay on top of any other news that breaks regarding further commitments coming out of a slew of visits that took place over the weekend of the spring game.

Ohio State football recruiting: Dijon Johnson commits; Dylan Raiola, others visit

Highly ranked prospects and top-tier quarterbacks crowded Columbus for Ohio State’s spring game.

Ohio State football’s spring game served as more than an exhibition contest. There was massive recruitment activity on the sidelines, according to several outlets and social media.

Dozens of recruits, primarily from the 2023 and 2024 classes, visited Ohio State over the weekend for the Buckeyes’ spring game. The exact number wasn’t clear as of Sunday afternoon, with reports prior to the game varying from more than 30 (per Cleveland.com) to at least 50 (Eleven Warriors).

Regardless of unclarity over the exact number, the weekend paid immediate dividends and even secured a recruit before Easter even concluded. Four-star cornerback Dijon Johnson announced on Sunday that he has committed to Ohio State.

“I have always thought that could be the pick for me,” he said to 247Sports. “It just wasn’t an in the moment thing. It was always like my top school with it being my dream school.”

Johnson is ranked the No. 29 cornerback and No. 265 player in the country. The 6-foot-1 Wharton (Tampa, Fla.) CB chose Ohio State over 35 other offers, according to 247Sports.

Four-star wide receiver on campus for Ohio State spring practice

A four-star wide receiver was on campus for spring practice. Whare the chances of the Buckeyes landing him? #GoBucks

The Ohio State Buckeyes are likely in for another heated recruiting battle and this time the target is Bryson Rodgers, the four-star wide receiver from Florida. Although 247Sports projects Rodgers to stay in state and land at Florida, the consensus top 40 wide receiver in the class of 2023 still visited Ohio State on an unofficial visit.

Rodgers was in Columbus, Ohio, for the Buckeyes’ spring practice and he got an opportunity to tour the facilities. The Buckeyes need to hold off SEC powers like Florida and Auburn for the stud’s services. At 6-foot, 2-inches, and 170-pounds, Rodgers has the intriguing size to go with ideal athleticism.

There’s no timetable yet for any news of a commitment, but we’ll keep an eye on things as the process to sway Rodgers continues.

Florida brings in impressive amount of recruits for first day of spring practice

Florida kicked off spring practice on Tuesday and a host of impressive recruits were in attendance.

Everyone is excited to see what Florida is like under new head coach Billy Napier. Fans and media members can only see snippets of what is going on in practices until the Orange and Blue game on April 16, but recruits can see whole practices when they visit the Swamp. On the first day of spring practice, Florida hosted over 15 prospects as it kicked things off on Tuesday.

Some of the elite names to stop by includes four-star linebacker Troy Bowles, four-star wide receiver Bryson Rodgers, four-star cornerback Dijon Johnson, four-star pass-catcher Eugene Wilson III, four-star offensive tackle Lucas Simmons and four-star linebacker and Michigan commit Raylen Wilson.

Eugene and Rodgers sit pretty close to the top of Florida’s wide receiver board. This will be Eugene’s second visit to the Gators this month, naming the Orange and Blue his leader after his first visit. For Rodgers, this is his first visit under the new staff.

For Johnson and Simmons, it’s their first visit to see Florida under Napier too. Johnson’s name has soared up the Gators defensive blackboard after a strong performance at the Under Armour event in Miami last month. Also, Napier, Rob Sale and Darnell Stapleton have impressed Simmons so far and finally got him on campus.

Look for more prospects to visit throughout this week and then a flurry of them over the weekend.

In-state 4-star WR sets date for March visit to the Swamp

Florida needs to add a few receivers to the team from the class of 2023 and four-star Bryson Rodgers could be one of them.

After four-star wide receiver Bryson Rodgers‘ January plans to visit the University of Gainesville fell through, the in-state recruit said that he would try and make it back in the spring. That visit will now take place on March 15, according to 247Sports’ Blake Alderman.

Rodgers is coming off a pair of unofficial visits to Ohio State and Alabama. Both programs received rave reviews from the junior and seem to be among the current leaders in his recruitment. After stopping by the Swamp, Rodgers heads to Athens to meet with Kirby Smart and the Georgia Bulldogs.

With the Florida trip being wedged into the middle of a very busy schedule, Billy Napier and Co. will need to be at their best while hosting Rodgers. Four other recruits are set to visit on that day, but they are all on the defensive side of the ball. Being a part of a smaller visiting group could allow Napier to get some real one-on-one time with him.

Rodgers’ talks have mainly been with wide receivers coach Keary Colbert but he’ll get a chance to meet the entire staff on Tuesday.

The Gators don’t have a ton of depth at wide receiver after adding just one in the 2022 transition class. Rodgers will be one of the first to make it on campus since the February dead period ended. He fits the trend of local players Napier has seemed to target early. If all goes well, a return visit wouldn’t be too difficult to schedule with Rodgers being an hour and 45 minutes away in Zephyrhills, Florida.

In-state 4-star wide receiver set to take March visit to Florida

Napier and his army are relentlessly on the recruiting trail.

Florida will need to sign a good amount of wide receivers in 2023 after only taking one in coach Billy Napier’s first class. One name on the Gators board is four-star wideout Bryson Rodgers from Zephyrhills, Florida, and he plans to make the trip to see the Gators in March, according to Swamp247.

He was supposed to visit the Swamp in January before the February dead period but had to reschedule due to allergies. Rodgers told 247Sports’ Blake Alderman that an official date hasn’t been set but hopes to make the trip next month.

Napier and wide receivers coach Keary Colbert have prioritized him since they’ve arrived in Gainesville. Colbert visited his high school back in January and spoke with him over the phone a few times. During their conversations, Colbert reaffirmed his offer to suit up for the Orange and Blue as well as establish a relationship.

“I have been getting to know his personality, and he’s definitely different than coach (Billy) Gonzales,” Rodgers said. “It’s important for me to get to know that new personality and that new coach who wants to recruit me. He’s there to give me knowledge on the program.”

Napier and his staff have placed a stronger emphasis on the recruiting trail than the previous one, and that’s something the talented pass-catcher has noticed.

Rodgers said Colbert is ambitious and wants to bring more game-changing wideouts to Florida like it did in the past.

Colbert also isn’t the only coach he’s been speaking with, either.

“I have been talking to coach (Joe) Hamilton, too,” he said. “He and the other coaches told me they are going to come after me hard. Even coach (Billy) Napier told me I was someone who was really underrated in his eyes. In his opinion, he thought I should be a higher ranked guy, but he said the stars and stuff aren’t going to shy him away from recruiting me.”

Napier added that he loves his game and who he is as a person.

Last fall, Rodgers dropped a list of his top seven schools but scrapped it ultimately because of all the coaching changes. However, he hopes to make a commitment near the end of summer, so he can focus on his senior season.

In March, he plans to see Ohio State, Georgia and Florida State along with Florida.
