Patriots punter Bryce Baringer mic’d up vs Eagles is must watch

More Bryce Baringer, please.

New England Patriots punter Bryce Baringer was mic’d up for last Thursday’s preseason game against the Philadelphia Eagles. What followed was a unique and hilarious look into his mindset throughout the game.

Baringer had a tremendous rookie season in 2023. He had 98 punts and averaged 46.9 yards per punt in a year when he was named to the PFWA All-Rookie Team. This included 38 punts landing inside the 20-yard line. He was a bright spot in a year where the Patriots finished 4-13 and dead last in the AFC East.

He is well on his way to picking back up where he left off after “dropping a dime” punt on the Eagles.

“So many people were smacking my head,” Baringer could be heard saying after taking 28 celebratory helmet smacks.

Hopefully, the Patriots won’t have to use Baringer much this season. They need to do a better job of finishing drives with touchdowns, not punts.

But when they do need a punter, they clearly have one of the best for the job.

Patriots punter Bryce Baringer qualifies for Massachusetts Amateur Championship

Patriots punter Bryce Baringer is pretty pretty good with golf clubs, too

New England Patriots punter Bryce Baringer is sharp with his hands as well as his kicking leg.

Baringer decided to try and make the Massachusetts Amateur Golf Championship next month and wound up shooting a 69 on Tuesday, good for first place and a spot in the big event.

“I tried qualifying a few times back when I was at home living in Michigan and never made it through,” Baringer told Patriots.com over the phone while making the drive back. “I thought it might be worth another shot — it might be cool. I found out that the Massachusetts Amateur Championship is not too far away in Framingham and that it was still during our break. It’s just a good time for me to be able just stay competitive, and I had full support from everybody. It was really cool.”

The round was played in temperatures that soared into the 90s. Baringer’s 25-foot birdie putt on the 18th hole proved the difference.

“I was even par going into 17, and in my head I just knew if I get out of 17 and 18 with two pars I’ll be in good shape,” said Baringer, a sixth-round pick from Michigan State in 2023. “I parred 17 and made a birdie to finish out on 18. I shot a 69. One under, so it was good.”

How does golf play into the punter’s life?

“I almost use it as a tool. Right now, we’re on our break before training camp. For me, being able to do these types of events helps me keep my juices flowing,” he told MassGolf.com. “Being able to compete with myself and try to put my foot forward, no matter what I’m trying to do, is always good for self-improvement. It helps me stay competitive, and it helps me learn a lot about who I am as a player.”

Two former Michigan State football special teams players are leading their position in Pro Bowl voting

Two former Michigan State football special teams players are leading their position in Pro Bowl voting

The NFL is entering the home stretch, and we are starting to get our first look at how the Pro Bowl is shaping up. As usual, there are some MSU players who are in great position to make the Pro Bowl, but they aren’t the guys we would normally suspect, like Kirk Cousins and Jack Conklin.

There are currently two former Michigan State football players leading their positions in Pro Bowl voting, and both are on special teams.

We take a look at both players below.

Two Patriots players, including unexpected rookie, make top-10 in Pro Bowl voting

One unexpected Patriots player got the second-most votes at his position.

There hasn’t been much in the way of positives to speak on when it comes to the New England Patriots’ 2023 season, unless the conversation is strictly on the defensive side of the football.

Surprisingly, however, when it comes to the fan voting for the 2024 Pro Bowl Games, it was special teams that came into focus for the Patriots. So far, rookie punter Bryce Baringer and legendary special-teamer Matthew Slater are the only two Patriots players in the top-10 of fan voting for the event.

Even more surprising, Baringer currently has the second-highest votes at the punter position behind Tennessee Titans punter Ryan Stonehouse. With Stonehouse sidelined with a season-ending injury, Baringer could get his first Pro Bowl nod as a rookie, if he continues to lead voting.

Slater is currently in ninth place in fan voting as a special-teamer, which is incredible for a 38-year-old player that considered retirement in the offseason. He’s the greatest to ever do it and still one of the best in the game to this very day.

The Patriots could use all of the moral victories they can get with the team sitting at 2-10 on the season. Baringer and Slater getting into the Pro Bowl would certainly count as one of them.

Michigan State football alum named to The Athletic’s NFL Midseason All-Rookie Team

MSU has one representative, and one honorable mention, on The Athletic’s Midseason All-Rookie Team

Bryce Baringer continues to light up the sport of football with his amazing punting ability. The former Michigan State football punter, now on the New England Patriots, is averaging 46.9 yards per punt and has stuck 22 punts inside the 20-yard.

For that, Baringer has been named to The Athletic’s NFL Midseason All-Rookie Team. Baringer is also third in the NFL in punt attempts.

Baringer was the only Spartan to make the official list, but former MSU wideout Jayden Reed received an honorable mention as well.

5 big takeaways from Patriots’ 20-17 loss vs Commanders

Here are 5 big takeaways from Sunday’s Patriots-Commanders game

A week after their defeat against the Miami Dolphins, the New England Patriots took on the Washington Commanders at Gillette Stadium on Sunday.

It was a competitive game throughout, though not for any significant level of skill from either team. Ultimately, Washington prevailed after a late-game drive from the Patriots ended in a turnover with less than two minutes to go, finalizing their victory in a 20-17 scoreline.

But even amidst their continued struggles, the Patriots still showed their class as an organization and care for the community. Before Sunday’s game, the team held a tribute to honor the victims of the recent shooting in Lewiston, Maine.

Here are five big takeaways from the game.

Studs and duds in Patriots’ surprising comeback win over Bills

Who were the Patriots’ studs and duds in Sunday’s win over the Bills?

Somehow, someway, the New England Patriots managed to do the unthinkable by knocking off the Buffalo Bills at Gillette Stadium.

Not only did the Patriots upset the odds, but they delivered a crucial blow to a division rival that has big-brothered them for the last two seasons. The win on Sunday put an end to the Patriots’ four-game losing streak to the Bills, while also breathing new life in their season overall.

It was a complete team effort with the defense creating opportunities, the offense putting points on the board and special teams consistently making big plays to put the Patriots in position to pull off the upset.

You won’t find many duds on this list, despite it being far from a perfect game for the Patriots. The defense had some tackling issues, and Kendrick Bourne coughed up a bad fumble. But the team was still able to come away with a big win in the end.

Let’s take a look at the studs and duds of the game:

10 burning questions heading into Patriots’ season opener vs Eagles

10 burning questions for the Patriots ahead of Sunday’s season opener.

There are a bunch of questions facing the New England Patriots in Sunday’s opener against the Philadelphia Eagles.

It will be their first real opportunity to wash away the stink of the 2022 season. They went 8-9 last season and missed the playoffs for the second time in three years.

That same model of consistency the Patriots have been known for hasn’t been there since Tom Brady was the quarterback. Coincidentally enough, Brady will be attending the game as an honorary guest of the team.

Perhaps his presence can help fuel the Patriots to beat the odds and knock off arguably the best team in football. Here are 10 burning questions facing the team ahead of Sunday’s matchup.
