Former Alabama assistant basketball coach signs extension with Arkansas State

Bryan Hodgson, former Alabama assistant, agrees to contract extensions with Arkansas State

Alabama and [autotag]Nate Oats’s[/autotag] success in 2023-24 can not be understated after replacing ten players and all three assistant coaches from last year’s team. Among the departures was assistant coach [autotag]Bryan Hodgson[/autotag] who left Tuscaloosa to take over as the head coach for the Arkansas State Red Wolves.

It was no easy fix of a job for Hodgson as he inherited a 13-20 program that finished 4-14 in conference play. However, his first year yielded great results as the Red Wolves finished the season with an 18-16 record and finished fourth in the conference with an 11-7 record.

After a successful first season on the job, Hodgson and Arkansas State have agreed on an extension through the 2029 season. The raise will see his yearly salary increase to $450,000 with an increase in his buyout.

Alabama basketball set to host former assistant coach and Arkansas State

Alabama basketball hosting former assistant in non-conference game this year

As part of the Alabama Crimson Tide’s non-conference basketball schedule this season they will take on the Arkansas State Red Wolves in Tuscaloosa on Dec. 4. The reason that this game should drum up some interest with Tide fans is that former assistant Bryan Hodgson is now the head man of the Arkansas State program.

Nate Oats and the Alabama program lost all three assistants from last season’s record-setting team, one of which was Hodges. He was a massive part of Oats’s operation as he was a key recruiter, and his loss has certainly hurt this offseason. Hodgson is taking over a 13-20 program from a season ago and has his work cut out for him.

Hodgson left Alabama and Oats on a great note with nothing but good things to say, and he doubled down on X saying,

“One of the many things I’ve taken with me from Nate Oats is his scheduling philosophy! Challenge yourself in the non-conference. Not much to gain from collecting wins at home against “lesser” opponents. We look forward to the challenges ahead, and we put together what we think will be the toughest schedule in Mid-Major basketball!! #Wolvesup #GTTL”

I speak for all of Alabama nation when I say I hope he and Arkansas State have a phenomenal 2023-24 campaign outside of the game on Dec. 4.

Alabama assistant, Bryan Hodgson, hired for Arkansas State head coaching job

Alabama assistant set to take Arkansas State head coaching job

Nate Oats and the Alabama Crimson Tide basketball program are finally starting to feel some of the pain that Nick Saban and the football team have felt for nearly a decade. Alabama assistant basketball coach, Bryan Hodgson, is set to leave the Tide at the end of the year to take over the Arkansas State program.

It is a major loss for the Tide as he has been a crucial member of the staff and a key recruiter, but it was a well-earned promotion and Tide fans should feel happy for him. Hodgson has been with Oats dating all the way back to their time in Buffalo and Oats has always spoken very highly of Hodgson.

Hodgson now has the task of turning the 13-20 Arkansas State Red Wolves into a tournament team, but first he will continue to chase a ring with the Tide.

The last time Alabama men’s basketball made the NCAA ‘March Madness’ tournament in 2018,  Avery Johnson was the head coach and Colin Sexton was still on the Crimson Tide roster. Now, with a new head coach and a redesigned roster, Alabama could make a run for the championship.

Head coach Nate Oats is only entering his second season at the helm of the Crimson Tide basketball team, but it feels as if the culture he’s instilled has been in place for decades.

Alabama currently has an unprecedented recruiting class for the program. Oats and assistant coach Bryan Hodgson have a 2020 class that ranks No. 9 in the nation.
