Forbidden Door 2023 betting odds: MJF to stem NJPW tide?

The AEW World Championship should remain with MJF, but oddsmakers like NJPW talent to win several big matches at Forbidden Door 2023.

MJF made it clear he’d rather not compete at Forbidden Door 2023, and especially not against someone from NJPW. The bad news for the AEW World Champion is that he got matched up against one of the company’s icons, Hiroshi Tanahashi, and despite his bluster, is likely going to have to wrestle the Ace in Toronto.

The good news is that he’s widely, widely expected to win. Betfair has MJF as a huge favorite at the moment, sitting at -2500 in American odds.

It makes sense as it would be surprising indeed to see Tanahashi sporting the AEW world title at this stage of his career. But his New Japan counterparts are expected to do better, with oddsmakers favoring Will Ospreay to win his highly anticipated rematch against Kenny Omega and Kazuchika Okada to prevail in a dream match against Bryan Danielson.

IWGP World Heavyweight Champion Sanada is also close to MJF levels as a favorite against “Jungle Boy” Jack Perry.

As always, we don’t endorse wagering on pro wrestling matches given that someone already knows the outcomes, but we enjoy examining the betting lines as a way of determining critical consensus on what will happen on upcoming cards.

We’ll update this post as more matches are confirmed for Forbidden Door, which is a near certainty as the week progresses. For now, here’s a look at what’s already been announced, converted into American-style lines.

AEW Dynamite results 06/07/23: Orange still golden, but are The Gunns?

AEW Dynamite from Colorado Springs featured an AEW International Championship match between Orange Cassidy and Swerve Strickland.

Orange Cassidy has been magic during his AEW International Championship reign, defending the belt tirelessly despite the fact that he’d rather not wrestle at all if he had his druthers. But with all due respect to the wrestling maneuver of the same name, Swerve Strickland could be the magic killer tonight on AEW Dynamite from Colorado Springs.

Swerve was popular was a fan favorite but has really seemed to hit his groove since embracing his villainous side, not to mention dropping the dead weight (sorry, but it’s true) that was the Mogul Affiliates and joining forces with The Embassy. If someone is going to end Cassidy’s run prior to Forbidden Door, it could very well be Strickland — plus it would be fun seeing Swerve have to defend the title against someone from NJPW later this month.

Another champ, Kris Statlander, will also be in action tonight. The AEW Women’s World Champion should get a pretty nice contest from Anna Jay, who has been impressive in recent appearances.

We’ll hear from MJF, probably about how he’d prefer not to defend his title at Forbidden Door (though he’ll likely be forced to do so). Tony Khan has an announcement to make about the main event for the first episode of AEW: Collision, coming up ever so quickly on Saturday, June 17. And the ever popular “JungleHook” team of Jack Perry and Hook will join forces once again, which should prove popular with the fans on hand in Colorado Springs.

AEW Dynamite results from Colorado Springs:

  • Orange Cassidy def. Swerve Strickland by pinfall to retain the AEW International Championship
  • The Mogul Embassy heads down to assault Cassidy after the bell, but the lights go out and come back on to reveal that Sting and Darby Allin have cleared the ring
  • A video package hypes tonight’s match between Ricky Starks and Jay White
  • The video from Dominion with Bryan Danielson challenging Kazuchika Okada is shown before he joins the commentary desk
  • Blackpool Combat Club (Claudio Castagnoli, Jon Moxley and Wheeler Yuta) def. Chaos (Rocky Romero and Best Friends) by submission as Moxley gets Romero to tap out
  • Hangman Adam Page and the Young Bucks challenge the BCC to a trios match next week and ask if they can handle it without Danielson or Konosuke Takeshita helping them

  • A video package promotes the rematch between Kenny Omega and Will Ospreay at Forbidden Door
  • MJF is interrupted during his insults of Colorado and its citizens by Adam Cole, who bears the brunt of the champ’s barbs for a bit before firing back and saying no one respects MJF; it seems to have the desired result, as MJF says he’ll wrestle Cole “any day of the week”
  • Matt Hardy says Ethan Page is the newest member of the Hardy party and makes him apologize to Isiah Kassidy, and Matt says he can make Ethan into a better human being

  • Hook and Jack Perry def. Dralistico and Preston Vance by submission in a wild Texas Tornado tag team match that featured plenty of blood, weapons and Jose The Assistant attempting to get involved
  • Tony Khan announces that the main event of the AEW: Collision premiere will pit Jay White and Juice Robinson of Bullet Club Gold and Samoa Joe vs. FTR and CM Punk
  • Konosuke Takeshita def. Damon Ace by pinfall in a quick squash match; afterward Don Callis repeats his assertion that his “new family” is going to cut The Elite out of AEW for good
  • Christian Cage says Arn Anderson cost him a title at Double or Nothing so he’s taking revenge by … having Luchasaurus beat up Brock Anderson, it seems

  • Kris Statlander def. Anna Jay by pinfall to retain the AEW TBS Championship, with Taya Valkyrie looking on backstage
  • Toni Storm talks about the four-way match to determine her No. 1 contender, and she says she and Ruby Soho will be watching
  • Jay White def. Ricky Starks by pinfall after the ref takes a bump and The Gunns hit the 3:10 to Yuma on Starks

AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door 2023 card: All the matches set for Toronto

Take a look at the full AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door 2023 card ahead of this year’s event in Toronto.

Wrestling fans enjoy fantasy booking just about any big card in their heads as a matter of habit, but Forbidden Door lends itself to that pastime more than any other show. The first AEW and NJPW co-branded event in 2022 was a big hit, which only kicked the anticipation up even higher for the follow-up this year.

Of course, both companies had their own big events to get through first. But as soon as Double or Nothing was in the rear view mirror come the beginning of June (and with the very real added twist of AEW: Collision launching just a week before Forbidden Door and including the return of CM Punk), thoughts started turning toward the card in Toronto.

NJPW Dominion 6.4 in Osaka-jo Hall started laying some of the foundation for Forbidden Door in earnest, turning two dream matches into reality: one a rematch of a highly praised bout at Wrestle Kingdom in January, and the other featuring two of the best wrestlers in Japan and the U.S. over the past two decades.

If last year’s event is any guide, there will likely be championship and multi-person matches added before June 25 arrives. There’s also an interesting question about whether the card will feature more women’s wrestling than the single match in 2022 given NJPW’s increasing (though still small) steps toward incorporating women into their promotion.

We’ll update this post as more matches are made official. For now, here’s what been revealed for Scotiabank Arena in Toronto.

AEW Forbidden Door 2023 card:

Report – Bryan Danielson to contribute to creative for AEW: Collision

Bryan Danielson has had behind the scenes roles before, and will look to bring that same expertise to AEW: Collision.

AEW’s new Saturday show will feature additional star power helping behind the scenes.

According to Fightful Select (subscription required but recommended), Bryan Danielson will contribute to creative for AEW: Collision. He held a similar position with WWE, which Fightful noted in discussing how others praised his demeanor while in the role, especially when sidelined due to injury.

Danielson joins a creative team that recently added former wrestling journalist Will Washington and already had the likes of AEW CEO and GM Tony Khan, Pat Buck, Sonjay Dutt and QT Marshall heavily involved. Jerry Lynn, Dean Malenko and Christopher Daniels also provide input, with Kenny Omega, the Young Bucks, Jon Moxley, FTR and CM Punk all with a significant say in their own programs.

Warner Bros. Discovery announced AEW Collision earlier this week after months of speculation about the name, date, and other details of the company’s newest weekly show. It will debut on Saturday, June 17, with an official location announcement to be made on the May 24 episode of Dynamite.

AEW already announced a handful of talent that Danielson and the creative team will work with as “headliners,” including Samoa Joe, Thunder Rosa and Andrade El Idolo. CM Punk was also expected to join the Saturday program, but Warner Bros. Discovery omitted him from the press release and other promotional material earlier this week.

Tasking Danielson, and others, with helming two more hours of programming, AEW looks to capitalize on his decades of experience in the wrestling ring with other top companies like WWE and Ring of Honor. His contributions will extend that experience and provide a top voice to potentially make AEW’s future feuds even better.

Meanwhile, Danielson’s next stop is Double or Nothing on Sunday, May 28 in Las Vegas. He teams with the Blackpool Combat Club to face the Elite in an Anarchy in the Arena match.

AEW Dynamite results: MJF’s plan goes awry, Hikaru Shida fools us all

We’ll find out tonight if MJF will be facing three angry Pillars trying to take his title at Double or Nothing.

It’s time to see if MJF has played the medium game correctly tonight on AEW Dynamite.

See, he knew that all three of AEW’s so-called Four Pillars were aiming for his AEW World Championship. So he tried to play them off against each other, and even paid Sammy Guevara to try to get past the other two and then lay down for him at Double or Nothing.

And like lots of stuff MJF does, it almost worked.

But not quite, and now he has to team with Guevara tonight to face Jack Perry and Darby Allin. If his team wins, he only has to defend his title against Guevara. If not, well, all three Pillars will be trying to take his gold. We’ll see if he can keep this particular house of cards (since AEW loves the casino analogies) from falling down.

In other news, it’s the third of May, so AEW is celebrating with a Tres de Mayo Trios Battle Royale. We’re assuming the winner gets a title shot, or something? Maybe? Anyway it’s a good reason to watch the amazing team of Lucha Bros. and El Hijo del Vikingo. We’re sold just on that.

AEW says we’ll also hear from The Elite tonight. The trio has been having a rough time as of late in their ongoing beef with the Blackpool Combat Club, which along with being in a perpetually foul mood, also outnumbers them four to three. That may have changed with the arrival of Konosuke Takeshita, but there’s no guarantee the Japanese up-and-comer is on the same page, and the BCC will no doubt be trying to keep it that way.

AEW Dynamite results for Baltimore:

(click on any match with a link for full details)

  • Orange Cassidy, Bandido, Roderick Strong and Adam Cole def. Jericho Appreciation Society (Daniel Garcia, Jake Hager, Angelo Parker and Matt Menard) when Cole pins Parker; Cole then makes a beeline for the announce table to attack Chris Jericho

  • Renee Paquette gets a word with Darby Allin and Jack Perry, who are focused on making it to the Double or Nothing main event, not whether they like each other
  • Jericho is shown in the back imploring security to remove Cole from the building, but Britt Baker shows up and slaps him in the face
  • Bryan Danielson says he’s better than Bret Hart ever was and is the best in the world today, and if he’s not, it’s one of his BCC teammates; he also says someone will be better than him someday, and that the BCC wants to push people, and Jon Moxley wonders if The Elite is still innovative, promising he’ll show Kenny Omega “a whole new version of Jon Moxley” in the steel cage next week
  • Saraya def. Willow Nightingale by pinfall with plenty of help from the other Outcasts; a returning Hikaru Shida fakes joining the Outcasts but helps Baker and Jamie Hayter lay out the heels instead

  • The House of Black says any three competitors can challenge them, but House Rules says 20 count instead of 10, no rope breaks, and DQ is enforced but the challengers get to pick the rule
  • The Acclaimed and Daddy Ass win the Tres de Mayo Trios Battle Royale, last defeating Kip Sabian, Butcher and Blade
  • MJF wants to butter up Sammy Guevara again, but Guevara looks like he buys the champ’s lame excuse, and they end up hugging again
  • Kenny Omega scoffs at the idea of a new Mox, and Don Callis calls him a “sick, twisted, narcissistic sociopath” before Omega promises all of this will end next week
  • Wardlow wins a squash match over local talent and demands for Luchasaurus to come out for a match right now … but Christian Cage says the title shot belongs to him
  • Jay Lethal, Jeff Jarrett and company paid a visit to Mark Briscoe’s home turf, and Papa Briscoe was unamused … as are we after Lethal and Jarrett say they are challenging FTR for the tag team titles

  • Ricky Starks def. Juice Robinson by pinfall, but Jay White attacks Starks after the bell and Ricky narrowly avoids a Blade Runner
  • MJF stops in and visits Perry before the main event, trying to buy him off at the last moment but uses some weird reverse psychology to try to pull it off
  • Jack Perry and Darby Allin def. MJF and Sammy Guevara by pinfall when Allin pins Guevara after a Coffin Drop

AEW Dynamite live results: The battle for Takeshita’s soul turns bloody

Plus there’s two title matches and an appearance by Tony Khan.

It’s time to find MJF a top contender once and for all tonight on AEW Dynamite from Sunrise, Fla.

You may recall that the AEW World Champion has been called one of the Four Pillars of the company, and that the other three all made it clear they’d like a shot at his title. MJF skillfully played them off against each other, even aiding Sammy Guevara in defeating “Jungle Boy” Jack Perry.

But now Guevara is just a victory over Darby Allin away from getting that title shot himself. Is having Sammy win part of MJF’s plan too, or does he have another trick up his sleeve?

There are also two title matches on the AEW Dynamite card tonight. Jade Cargill will put both her TBS Championship and her undefeated record on the line against Taya Valkyrie, possibly her most powerful opponent to date. And since it’s another week, it must mean another Orange Cassidy title defense, this time against Bandido.

Also, as you may have heard Tony Khan will be appearing on this week’s episode as well. Is he about to confirm to the world that we’ll all be watching two more hours of AEW action every week on Saturday night? Or is this particular announcement about something else?

There’s only one way to find out, and that’s to tune in tonight at 8 p.m. on TBS. Well, actually two ways, because you can also return to this post as we update it with AEW Dynamite live results as they happen from Sunrise.

AEW Dynamite results from Sunrise, Fla.:

(click on any match with a link for more details)

  • Orange Cassidy def. Bandido by pinfall to retain the AEW International Championship; after the match, the two men share signs of respect, including Cassidy putting his sunglasses on Bandido
  • Adam Cole tells Renee Paquette he’s going to call out Chris Jericho … and if Jericho doesn’t come out, Cole will go find him; Cassidy and Bandido are told what’s going on and say “oh”
  • Darby Allin tries to squash things with Jack Perry, but they seem too competitive with each other to be sure that Perry will prevent any hijinks in Allin’s match tonight
  • Jeff Jarrett def. Dax Harwood by pinfall … by cheating, of course, then poses with Harwood’s tag team title bout
  • Tony Khan announces the Owen Hart Foundation tournaments are back again this year, and will include matches at Forbidden Door with the finals in Calgary this summer
  • Wardlow def. a jobber by pinfall in a quick squash match, and has another staredown with Luchasaurus
  • MJF and Sammy Guevara sure seem to still be on the same page as they vow that Sammy will defeat Darby, and they exchange gifts (vests and scarfs)
  • Poor RJ City gets laid out backstage by the Blackpool Combat Club
  • Sammy Guevara def. Darby Allin by DQ when MJF makes it seem like Darby used a skateboard to hit Sammy … but an announcement is made that Allin and Perry will team to face MJF and Guevara next week, and if the faces win, both of them are added to the title match at Double or Nothing
  • MJF and Guevara are furious, but Sammy gets left behind as MJF leaves the building
  • “Jericho, I know you can hear me you son of a bitch!” Cole swears he will beat Jericho within an inch of his life, but all he gets is The Ocho on the big screen sending the JAS to the ring … but Cassidy, Bandido and the debuting Roderick Strong help even the odds and clear the ring
  • QT Marshall tells the QTV crew they need to “go to Plan B” after a visit from an angry Powerhouse Hobbs
  • Jade Cargill def. Taya Valkyrie by pinfall to retain the AEW TBS Championship
  • Britt Baker and Jamie Hayter look somewhat the worse for wear but vow that even though The Outcasts declared war, the only way they’ll stop coming is if they are sent to the morgue
  • Ricky Starks and Shawn Spears exchange trash talk with Jay White and Juice Robinson ahead of their match on Rampage this Friday
  • Kenny Omega and Konosuke Takeshita def. The Butcher and The Blade by pinfall, but Bryan Danielson is with the announcers and distracts them for a full scale BCC assault … until the Young Bucks arrive, though Takeshita stops Omega from using a screwdriver on Jon Moxley and ends up having Mox use it on him

AEW Dynamite results: Adam Cole wins in his return, Kenny Omega has a Dragon problem

AEW Dynamite results for March 29 in St. Louis, with Adam Cole making his in-ring return against Daniel Garcia.

Yes, it’s the week of a certain really big show in another wrestling promotion, and thanks to Supercard of Honor, even AEW has its eyes partially on L.A. But AEW Dynamite has business elsewhere this week, and specifically in St. Louis.

If you’ve been watching AEW programming the last few weeks, this is a big night because it marks the long awaited in-ring return of Adam Cole. While his emotional battle to come back from concussions is playing out on “AEW: All Access,” the cool part is that we know the ending, and it’s a happy one. Alas, Daniel Garcia is poised to make it somewhat less joyful when they meet in the ring tonight.

Kenny Omega turned in a rare singles performance on Dynamite last week, introducing the wider wrestling world to the wonder that is El Hijo del Vikingo. Yet he’s going to be right back at it this week, defending his IWGP United States Heavyweight Championship against Jeff Cobb. The two have yet to meet one-on-one, so it should be a fun matchup.

And while Orange Cassidy would probably bristle at the idea of being called the hardest working man in AEW since it runs counter to his personal ethos, he really is since he puts the International Championship (and its predecessor) on the line weekly. He’s doing again in St. Louis, as The Butcher will look to take his gold away. No word on whether he gets the backpack to carry it around with him too.

AEW Dynamite results in 60 seconds:

  • “Jungle Boy” Jack Perry def. Matt Hardy by pinfall, but MJF joins him afterward and the two have plenty to say before briefly coming to blows
  • Don Callis asks Kenny Omega why he assumed Hangman Adam Page attacked Callis last week and says he’ll apologize to Hangman
  • The Jericho Appreciation Society wined and dined The Acclaimed to try to get them to join
  • Blackpool Combat Club def. Dalton Castle and The Boys by pinfall
  • A video package plays up the title match between Omega and Jeff Cobb later tonight
  • Page is approached by Callis and wonders if his apology is for real, but neither has time to resolve anything as the BCC comes by and lays them both out
  • Kenny Omega def. Jeff Cobb by pinfall to retain the IWGP United States Heavyweight Championship, but …
  • … he gets attacked by the BCC afterward, including Bryan Danielson, who teases aiding him before joining his teammates in their assault
  • The Gunns tell FTR they are one of the best tag teams ever, but they’re no heroes to the champs, who don’t respect them, and vow to end their careers next week
  • Orange Cassidy def. The Butcher by pinfall to retain the AEW International Championship
  • Jade Cargill is still upset about Taya Valkyrie, and wants her team to handle things legally for stealing her move and all
  • Juice Robinson warns Action Andretti their meeting on Rampage will be a fight, not a match, one designed to deliver a message to Ricky Starks
  • Ruby Soho def. Willow Nightingale by pinfall, and Jamie Hayter leads a charge afterward to chase off The Outcasts before having a brief friendly staredown with Riho
  • Powerhouse Hobbs says the TNT Championship is never leaving his waist
  • Adam Cole def. Daniel Garcia by pinfall
  • Britt Baker joins Cole in the ring, and streamers rain down on the couple while the fans salute him; Chris Jericho comes to get Garcia but has a look of disdain for Cole

Jack Perry gets a big win, but MJF is unimpressed

Dueling chants for both men is definitely interesting. The announce crew frames this as an important bout for Perry against a bona fide legend. Facts.

Perry uses his speed to keep Hardy at bay early on, but Ethan Page steps in and keeps Jungle Boy from a follow-up dive to the floor. When he finally launches himself, Hardy is ready, countering with a Side Effect as Darby Allin is shown watching backstage.

He gets to see Perry take another Side Effect on the apron, which looks painful and leads to Hardy controlling the action during side-by-side commercials.

Perry is getting a lot better at selling specific damage, or so it seems to us. Page intervenes again, and Hardy tries to capitalize with a superplex that only gets two.

Who can even the odds? Hook, of course. Perry manages to counter a couple of Hardy’s signature moves, and a Flatliner sets up a running elbow to the back of the head to give Jack the pin.

No time to celebrate, however, as MJF makes his way to the ring. The champ disses the St. Louis fans and takes issue with Perry’s assertion that he had it easy in his climb to the top. He does give Jungle Boy credit for clawing his way up but thinks Jack should be upset with himself.

Say what? MJF says he thought a previous meeting with Perry showed him they would be rivals at the top level forever. He gave Jack some advice, which Perry remembers as needing to dump all his friends and stop being a nice guy. MJF says everyone he palled around with betrayed him, and Hook will do the same eventually.

Is MJF right? Well, he’s the champ and Perry is “still just Jungle Boy.” Perry said a long time ago he thought they might be friends, and in some ways, Jack wishes he could be like MJF … but it wasn’t him to not care about anyone but himself. If his road to the top is harder as a result, so be it.

MJF agrees maybe they could have been friends, but says Jack is a “massive disappointment” and is weak everywhere, including, he claims Anna Jay said, between the knees.

Naturally, Perry isn’t taking that, and he ends up laying out the champ with a lariat before Max scoots to safety to avoid a running elbow.

Dalton Castle and The Boys get ambushed, figuratively and literally, by Blackpool Combat Club

Castle and company learn the hard way you have to have eyes in the back of your head against BCC even when making your ring walk. A pre-bell assault has Dalton’s side in bad shape, with Claudio Castagnoli finishing one of The Boys in supremely quick fashion.

Then BCC hops the barrier and they leave through the crowd. Job done.

Kenny Omega puts drama aside to defeat Jeff Cobb, but the BCC isn’t done with him

Right before he comes through the curtain, Omega is informed by Tony Schiavone about the BCC attack on Don Callis and Hangman Page, but he tris to shake it off since he has a tough match and needs to focus. Schiavone notes as the bell rings that it could mean a distracted Kenny … or an angry one.

Omega gets in the first big move, landing his tope con hilo but also selling the impact on his already taped ribs. Kenny’s attempt to hoist his foe goes awry, and Cobb hits a running brainbuster to start his first big offensive sequence.

Just when it looks like distracted Omega is the one we’re seeing, he makes a strong rally that leads to a knee strike and a two count. A snapdragon suplex is answered by a huge Cobb lariat, bringing the fans to their feet.

They inevitably end up on the top rope together, where Cobb delivers a delayed vertical suplex from the middle turnbuckle. He’s slow to cover, but gets an even close near fall after a standing moonsault.

Cobb uses Omega’s own V-Trigger against him, then takes things a step too far by trying Kenny’s famous finisher. Omega reverses a Tour of the Islands into a knee, follows with a V-Trigger and uses the ropes to get Cobb up for the One-Winged Angel. He pulls it off and even walks around for a bit before dropping Cobb down for three.

The BCC comes to surround Omega after the bell, but they pause when Bryan Danielson arrives. He looks like he’s going to help Kenny fight off his teammates, but as soon as Omega turns his back, Danielson blasts him with a Busaiku Knee. All four men beat the crap out of Omega, and Danielson berates Kenny before leaving, saying he’s everything wrong with pro wrestling.

Orange Cassidy, Best Friends have to cut some corners to keep Freshly Squeezed the champ

The Blade gets himself ejected from ringside before the bell even rings, which isn’t too effective a way to help one’s partner. The Butcher’s strength is apparent as he gets in plenty of offense, but Cassidy has answers, including a diving DDT for a near fall.

Maybe we were wrong about Blade BTW, because he’s able to lend a hand when the referee isn’t looking, until the Best Friends arrive to neutralize him. Chuck Taylor hits Butcher with the crowbar that Blade had previously used on the champ, and Freshly Squeezed hits the Orange Punch to seal a win.

The announcers don’t let that heel tactic from Cassidy go without a mention, for what it’s worth.

Willow Nightingale learns fighting alone won’t work vs. Ruby Soho, but the champ arrives to chase The Outcasts away

Willow needs to keep here eyes on a swivel here with The Outcasts lurking. She isn’t as happy go lucky as usual and that’s bad early on for Soho, who is taking quite the beating, including repeated body slams.

Of course Soho is willing to bend the rules when the ref isn’t looking, and Ruby delights in causing some extended pain to Willow.

It’s … not really going much better after side-by-side commercials. But then it is, thanks to a big spinebuster that has Soho begging off. A huge Death Valley Driver is next, and Nightingale has a determined look on her face even after Soho kicks out.

Ruby responds by hitting No Future twice in a row, then looks surprised when Willow kicks out. Nightingale nearly wins it with a backslide and connects on a Pounce that smashes Soho halfway across the ring.

Willow wants a Doctor Bomb, but the other Outcasts intervene, and Soho steals a pin using the ropes for leverage. Toni Storm and Saraya quickly attack Willow once the bell rings, and they bring in a steel chair instead of the spray paint can.

Here come Riho and Skye Blue to the rescue. They aren’t faring very well, with Blue getting thrown to the floor. But one more person sprints tot he ring, and it’s the champ, Jamie Hayter. She clears the ring out and offers a hand to Riho, who will challenge her next week.

Adam Cole triumphs over Daniel Garcia in his return to wrestling

It’s hard to describe how great it is to see Cole back in the ring after nine months away. Fans are psyched to see him, as you’d expect, but Garcia is more than ready to match him hold for hold while simultaneously disrespecting Cole.

A piledriver sends Cole out to the floor, ushering in a full commercial break, sort of a bummer when there’s been split screen ads all night.

Cole has things going back in his favor when the broadcast returns, though he whiffs on an enzuigiri and falls victim to a German suplex. Cole is clutching his head, heightening some of the drama of his return.

The fans spur Cole to a superkick, and he covers for a two count. After missing the Boom, Cole gets hit with some elbows before countering into a pinning predicament. Cole goes for Panama Sunrise only to see Garcia counter it into a Dragon Tamer. Cole crawls and reaches the rope to break the hold.

Another piledriver gets Cole with his arms trapped, yet he’s able to kick out at two again. His second attempt at Panama Sunrise works, and he lowers the Boom with his exposed knee to win it.

Bryan Danielson is ‘in a ton of pain’ following Revolution Iron Man match

Even the best wrestlers in the world hurt a lot after going more than 60 minutes in a world title match.

Pro wrestling matches can take a lot out of the participants even when they’re only a few minutes long. After more than an hour, it’s almost guaranteed that wrestlers are going to be beaten up, even if they’re among the best in the world like Bryan Danielson.

The American Dragon had to work overtime against AEW World Champion MJF at AEW Revolution when their Iron Man match was tied at the end of its scheduled 60 minutes. That was great for fans, but not as much for Danielson’s body.

On top of that, the suffering didn’t even come in a winning effort, as Danielson eventually tapped out to MJF for the final fall. After cutting a promo that aired on Dynamite about how he needed to “go home” following his defeat, Danielson appeared on the Unconsciously Coupled podcast (h/t Fightful) and ran down a list of all his ailments after Revolution.

Legitimately, I’m in a ton of pain. I just wrestled for over 65 minutes. I’ve got a black eye. I can’t lift my left arm past here [partially raises arm]. I have shooting pain going down my leg. There’s this big gaping wound on my stomach.

Those are all things that Danielson has undoubtedly experienced before, probably numerous times over the course of his 20-plus-year career. But given his injury history, they’re not pleasant for his fans to hear about, nor his family — Danielson discussed how his young children already understand when their dad is in physical pain from his matches.

The question now is when Danielson might return to the ring. The aforementioned “go home” promo certainly buys AEW time to allow him to heal up, and MJF will almost certainly move on to other challengers. Danielson remains one of AEW’s biggest and most popular stars, however, so from a business perspective, it won’t want him to stay away too long.

AEW Dynamite results: Orange Cassidy wins last ever All-Atlantic title match, Hobbs is golden

Get live AEW Dynamite results for March 8, 2023 in Sacramento, with two championship matches on the card.

If there’s a harder working champion in major pro wrestling right now than Orange Cassidy, we don’t know who it is. In stark contrast to his laidback vibe, Freshly Squeezed puts his All-Atlantic Championship on the line at just about every opportunity (he’s made 13 defenses since winning it last October), as he’ll do again tonight on AEW Dynamite from Sacramento.

What makes this time different is that it’s a rubber match of sorts. Jay Lethal has already had one crack at Cassidy’s title and came up short, but he also pinned Orange last August in their only other singles match. If Lethal can grab a victory on Dynamite, he’ll win not only the championship but also some bragging rights, and he’ll almost certainly have Jeff Jarrett, Satnam Singh and Sonjay Dutt in his corner to aid in that effort.

Another title is also on the line in Sacramento, as Wardlow squares off with Powerhouse Hobbs. Wardlow just reclaimed the TNT Championship at Revolution, and Hobbs won his shot in the Face of the Revolution ladder match just prior. Something obviously has to give in this battle of two very large, muscular men.

Other matches on this week’s Dynamite card include Blackpool Combat Club vs. Dark Order, Top Flight and AR Fox vs. the Jericho Appreciation Society, and Ruby Soho vs. Skye Blue. Plus we’ll hear from Hangman Adam Page for the first time since his brutal but triumphant Texas Death match with Jon Moxley at Revolution. Wonder if the cowboy has his eyes on a meeting with the world champ sometime soon …

AEW Dynamite results in 60 seconds:

  • Orange Cassidy def. Jay Lethal by pinfall to retain the AEW All-Atlantic Championship, then gets attacked by Jeff Jarrett afterward
  • Powerhouse Hobbs says it’s too bad Wardlow had his car broken into and his belt stolen, because tonight he’s going to take the only thing he has left way from him too when he wins the TNT title
  • Ricky Starks was having a hell of a week … until he gets laid out by Juice Robinson
  • Wardlow says since he doesn’t have his gear or the physical belt, why don’t they make his match with Hobbs Falls Count Anywhere, Anything Goes?
  • Renee Paquette asks Ruby Soho why, and she blames the fans

AEW Revolution 2023 betting odds: MJF, Jungle Boy among biggest favorites

The latest AEW Revolution odds also suggest most people believe Wardlow will take the TNT Championship from Samoa Joe.

Bryan Danielson is one of the best pro wrestlers on the planet. Maybe the best. But that doesn’t mean most people think he’s going to dethrone AEW World Champion MJF in their 60-minute Iron Man match at AEW Revolution.

As we always do ahead of big pay-per-views, we’ve taken a look at the Revolution betting odds to get the pulse of public opinion (because actually betting on events where someone already knows the outcome seems kind of silly). And of the eight matches on the Revolution card, MJF is the heaviest favorite, according to the current lines at Betfair.

What gives? It’s possible that just as we did when we broke down all the matches, people simply believe it’s too early into MJFs reign of terror for him to drop the title. Why build him up for as long as AEW did just to have him stumble in his first title defense?

“Jungle Boy” Jack Perry is also someone the oddsmakers think will have his hand raised on Sunday night. He’s a big favorite over former mentor turned bitter rival Christian Cage in something called The Final Burial. Whatever that stipulation turns out to be, the masses are riding with Perry.

Of the rest of the matches, the most uncertainty is in the four-way tag team title match, where The Gunns are favored to retain, but just by a smidge over former champs The Acclaimed. Let’s take a look at the lines for the whole card, converted to U.S.-style numbers.
