AEW Collision results 10/28/23: MJF, Kenny Omega go to war in instant classic

MJF may have had the best match of his career in his AEW World Championship defense against Kenny Omega on AEW Collision.

Should one of the biggest possible AEW World Championship fights just be put together with three days’ notice? That’s a question worth pondering before we dive into tonight’s episode of AEW Collision from Uncasville, Conn.

No one would argue that MJF vs. Kenny Omega for the world title is a big deal, the kind of bout that could easily be a pay-per-view main event. So why was it only announced on Dynamite and taking place tonight?

Pondering that has led many to suspect that there will be some hijinks on Collision, something that will lead to a rematch or more people being added to another meeting between the two down the road. Something, surely.

Or maybe it’s just a way to ensure some ratings for Collision on a typically tough Saturday night for it. Either way, it’s added an extra layer of intrigue to this episode, so let’s not wait: Here’s what went down in Connecticut.

  • Hikaru Shida def. Abadon by pinfall in a Halloween Fright Night match to retain the AEW Women’s World Championship
  • In her usual black and white, “Timeless” Toni Storm comes out to steal the spotlight from Shida after the title match, posing on the announce table

  • A video package features Keith Lee and Shane Taylor talking smack to each other
  • Samoa Joe def. Rhett Titus by submission to retain the ROH World Television Championship
  • Renee Paquette catches up with QTV and finds out that Q.T. Marshall plans to defend his AAA title against the best luchadores AEW has to offer

  • Claudio Castagnoli says Bryan Danielson has a broken orbital bone and promises to make Kazuchika Okada pay for it in Japan or the U.S. while also challenging Orange Cassidy to a title match for Dynamite

  • Ricky Starks def. Dax Harwood by pinfall, but when House of Black tries to gang up on FTR after the match, La Faccion Ingobernable arrives and turns face, helping the former tag team champs
  • Andrade El Idolo seems to be focused on his own business, not whatever is going on with LFI
  • Kris Statlander wants to settle things between Willow Nightingale and Skye Blue, but Skye says anything that needs to be cleared up between her and Willow is only their business

AEW Collision results 07/15/23: FTR wins instant classic, Starks takes a shortcut

AEW Collision from Calgary also saw Willow Nightingale capture the Women’s Owen Hart Cup.

Calgary is usually best known for its stampede, but tonight it’s going to be the site of a collision. AEW Collision, to be precise, which is offering up a high stakes card for this mid-July Saturday evening.

Both the men’s and women’s Owen Hart Foundation Tournament winners will be decided. The former will see CM Punk take on Ricky Starks in a battle that should see Absolute as the fan favorite, while the latter sees Willow Nightingale, fresh off a scintillating victory over Athena, go up against Ruby Soho.

On top of those intriguing bouts, the AEW World Tag Team Championship is also on the line at the Saddledome. The Bullet Club Gold duo of Jay White and Juice Robinson earned their shot by defeating the champs. But outwitting FTR for one fall is one thing, and taking two of three falls from them is quite another — though that’s exactly what White and Robinson will have to do tonight if they want to walk away with the belts.

And speaking of belts, there are even more of them up for grabs after Collision as Battle of the Belts VII will offer up three additional championship matches. But you know, that’s a tale for a different time, or in this case, a different post.

Let’s focus on Collision first, shall we?

AEW Collision results from Calgary:

FTR def. Bullet Club Gold (Jay White and Juice Robinson) 2-1 in a 2 out of 3 falls match to retain the AEW World Tag Team Championship

This one starts off very slowly with a ton of posturing and mind games. Bullet Club Gold gets the better of things during the first picture-in-picture segment, but the crowd is trying to will the champs into the lead.

Dax Harwood takes a rare shortcut with White in an abdominal stretch, using the ropes for leverage. The announcers put over Robinson’s patience as he works against Cash Wheeler, and White also looks good when he re-enters the fray.

The big question is who’s going to get the first fall as White and Harwood both end up down on the mat with their partners urging them to rise. FTR looks for the Shatter Machine, but Robinson foils it and White hits a Blade Runner to give the challengers a 1-0 lead.

The assumption is that FTR will get the second fall and take it to a third and decisive fall, but it’s Bullet Club Gold who controls most of the next bit of action. Wheeler fights heroically to make a hot tag to Dax, who unleashes on both of the challengers. He pulls off a cool spot when he back drops White while still being tied up with Robinson, but his brainbuster on Juice gets only a two count.

White is also in trouble shortly after but manages to kick out at two … and then again. The fans are legitimately in disbelief. The challengers turn the tables on FTR with a frog splash by Robinson and a cover by White, but Harwood kicks out at the very last second. That proves vital, as FTR hits the Shatter Machine, finally, and evens the score at 1-1.

After a commercial break, all four men are fighting on the outside, and White and Harwood take a tough spill over the barricade to the concrete floor. Wheeler and some officials go to check on them, but it appears all is well as they continue on.

FTR ends up suplexing both of their foes on the floor, where only thin mats are there to cushion the impact. All four men make it back into the ring for a face to face showdown as the fans shower them with applause.

Harwood looks like he’s in big trouble as White locks him in the Sharpshooter, much to the dismay of the Calgary crowd. He manages to make it to the bottom rope, however, to force a break. The ring announcer reveals there are only five minutes remaining.

The fans roar back to life again as both members of FTR have their foes in Sharpshooters, but Robinson and White reach out for each other and are able to break free. Juice, still legal, goes for Pulp Friction but ends up back in a Sharpshooter, and Harwood leans back super deep and manages to get the tapout. Fantastic stuff.

FTR offers handshakes after the bout, but instead of accepting them, White spits on the mat in front of the champs.

A hype video is shown for Blood and Guts, with clips from both The Golden Elite and Blackpool Combat Club.

Willow Nightingale def. Ruby Soho by pinfall to win the Women’s Owen Hart Foundation Tournament final

Can Soho defeat Nightingale without cheating? We may never know, because that’s exactly what Ruby is trying to do. Willow does survive the No Future, barely, and at least the other Outcasts aren’t out there.

A Pounce sends the spray paint can flying, and Nightingale follows with a powerbomb to win the trophy and the belt that goes with it.

QT Marshall tries to convince Powerhouse Hobbs that he didn’t intentionally cost him a chance at the Owen Hart cup, but it remains to be seen what he’ll have to do to prove it.

Malakai Black and Brody King def. Randy Myers and Arty by pinfall

In what is otherwise a squash match, the most interesting thing to note is Andrade El Idolo coming out to watch right before Black wins the match with the Black Mass.

Ricky Starks def. CM Punk by pinfall to win the Men’s Owen Hart Foundation Tournament final

Dueling chants break out for both men, sounding split about down the middle — though Punk certainly received more heels than boos while being introduced. Starks mocks some of Punk’s trademark mannerisms after getting the better of an early exchange, though Punk is able to hip toss him out to the floor.

After a commercial break, the fans sound more anti-Punk as he slowly takes control of the action. Starks is able to take advantage as Punk is too slow to come off the top rope, and we go side-by-side during ads again.

Simultaneous cross body attempts leave both men down and make it appear we’re headed toward a finish. They get to their knees and start slugging it out, with Starks hammering home forearm shots. But Punk is able to counter Starks with a piledriver, nearly winning it even though he’s slow to cover.

Starks is able to slide away from the Go to Sleep and hit a spear, but Punk rolls to the outside. Ricky’s next spear is countered into a guillotine, forcing Starks to stretch his foot to the ropes to break the hold.

A top rope hurricanrana for Punk leads to a trade of covers back and forth, but Starks grabs the ropes on one of them and get the three count.

AEW Collision results 06/17/23: Saturday night’s alright for CM Punk

Can AEW Collision make Saturday night must see TV for wrestling fans? Tonight’s Chicago debut will start putting that to the test.

Is the world ready for another two hours of prime time All Elite Wrestling each week? We’ll begin to find out tonight as the highly anticipated debut of AEW Collision comes to us live from the United Center in Chicago.

Call it the ultimate test of one of Tony Khan’s longtime assertions. He’s made it known that AEW has a big and talented enough roster to support more hours of programming each week. Warner Bros. Discovery agreed and said “let’s see what you can do on Saturday nights.”

The debut episode has some extra buzz around it thanks to a story you might have heard about if you follow wrestling at all: the return of CM Punk. Back in action for the first time since a combination of injury and suspension following All Out last fall, he’s been a boon to ticket sales for tonight’s show in his hometown, and curiosity over what he might say may attract plenty of TV viewers too.

It’s almost secondary (but not quite, since Punk has never wrestled at the United Center) that he’s in the main event, teaming with FTR to take on Bullet Club Gold and Samoa Joe.

Several other interesting returns are set for the Collision premiere. Both Miro and Andrade El Idolo will return to the ring after months away. Plus Wardlow will defend the TNT Championship, and The Acclaimed are scheduled to be in the house.

There’s a brand new (to AEW, that is) announce team. The set will likely be different from the one used on Dynamite. And Khan paid for a famous Elton John song to be the show’s opening theme.

  • “I am the truth, and the truth is painful.” Fittingly, CM Punk starts off the show, walking to the ring to a huge reaction and carrying a bag with him; Punk says he’s done being nice and tells the crowd to tell him when he’s telling lies, saying people can call him whatever they want because they know he’s the truth

Punk takes a shot at Young Bucks and also still has his title belt with him (presumably, as he never takes it out), saying it belongs to him until someone pins or submits him; he also has his boots and says until there’s someone in the company can fill them, he’s the one who needs to wear them

  • Luchasaurus def. Wardlow by pinfall after Christian Cage blasts Wardlow in the head with a camera he took from ringside, and Luchasaurus is the new TNT Champion (though Cage is celebrating like he won)
  • QT Marshall says Powerhouse Hobbs will win the Owen Hart tournament, something Hobbs himself asserts

  • Andrade El Idolo def. Buddy Matthews by submission, utilizing a move his wife made famous, the Figure Eight; afterward, Andrade tries to shake Matthews’ hand, but the lights go out to reveal he’s surrounded by the House of Black

  • A video package shows Scorpio Sky highlights and teases his return

  • Tony Nese tries body shaming the Chicago fans and says it’s time for group training, but he’s mercifully cut short by the return of Miro

AEW Rampage results 05/19/23: Cole, Jericho headed for unsanctioned match, bay bay

Get the details for an AEW Rampage that saw hostilities between Adam Cole and Chris Jericho ramp up even more.

Playoff basketball waits for no one. Yes, even AEW Rampage.

So because there’s another playoff game tonight (go Himmy Butler!), Rampage has to slide out of its normal 10 p.m. ET timeslot.

But you know what? That’s not actually a bad thing, at least for those of us in the east, because it means a little pro wrestling earlier in the evening.

This show looks like it’ll be a fun hour, with some fun trios matches that include Blackpool Combat Club and The Acclaimed and Daddy Ass — not against each other, but maybe someday.

AEW Rampage results for May 19, 2023:

  • Blackpool Combat Club def. Best Amigos and Bandido by pinfall
  • Kyle Fletcher explains why he targeted Orange Cassidy and plans on becoming the new AEW International Champion
  • Jade Cargill wins a quick squash match with a pump kick to go to 58-0, so Mark Starling brings out a second enhancement talent; Jade squashes her as well to go to 59-0, but instead of a third match, Taya Valkyrie comes out, hits the Road to Valhalla and says she’ll see Cargill at Double or Nothing
  • The Acclaimed and Daddy Ass def. Varsity Athletes by pinfall
  • The QTV crew is fired up, with QT Marshall giving himself credit for getting Powerhouse Hobbs on the graphic for AEW: Collision and acting like he’s going to be a major player on the new show
  • The Hardys and Brother Zay don’t trust Ethan Page, and they’re correct to feel that way, as his attempts to make amends are really just a cover for a sneak attack by The Gunns, who help him hurt Zay’s neck with help from a steel chair … and yep, they’ll face off at Double or Nothing
  • Chris Jericho doubles down on calling Adam Cole a coward, who is shown backstage and hears Jericho challenge him to an unsanctioned match at Double or Nothing and rip up the document barring him from the building; Cole then enters the arena, inspiring a look of concern on Jericho’s face
  • Sure enough, Cole makes his way to the main part of the arena, where he and Jericho need to be kept apart by a bunch of security guards and officials
  • Dustin Rhodes def. Bishop Kaun by pinfall (despite being busted open after being thrown into the TV cameras), but gets jumped afterward by the Mogul Embassy, leading to a showdown with Keith Lee — that Lee loses thanks to the numbers game and a steel chair, with Swerve Strickland delivering a Swerve Stomp as Lee is helpless in said chair

AEW Rampage results 05/05/23: The Hardys delete The Firm

Few things, even in the wild world of pro wrestling, are as reliably off the rails as a cinematic match filmed at the Hardy Compound. And folks, we’ve got one tonight on AEW Rampage.

Matt and Jeff Hardy, along with Isiah Kassidy, are looking to rid themselves of their ties to The Firm for good, and they’ve enlisted some pretty good assistance in the form of Hook. We mean, he’s a heck of a lot better than Stokely Hathaway on the other side.

While there’s no telling what we might get in The Firm Deletion, you can be pretty darn sure that what’s in store during the show-opening trios match that features the Lucha Bros. teaming with the most exciting luchador on the planet right now.

  • Footage is shown of MJF throwing an expletive-laced tirade on Dynamite after he realizes he’ll have to defend his title in a four-way match, but it cuts to commercial in the middle
  • Chris Jericho says he couldn’t be a commentator tonight because of the recent “unprovoked” attack by Adam Cole and says he’s working on assurances that Cole won’t be in the same building next week on Dynamite
  • Jade Cargill vs. Gia Scott by pinfall in a matter of about a minute
  • Mark Briscoe has a match to worry about, but Jay Lethal and Jeff Jarrett want him to call FTR and get them a tag team title shot at Double or Nothing

AEW Dynamite live results: The battle for Takeshita’s soul turns bloody

Plus there’s two title matches and an appearance by Tony Khan.

It’s time to find MJF a top contender once and for all tonight on AEW Dynamite from Sunrise, Fla.

You may recall that the AEW World Champion has been called one of the Four Pillars of the company, and that the other three all made it clear they’d like a shot at his title. MJF skillfully played them off against each other, even aiding Sammy Guevara in defeating “Jungle Boy” Jack Perry.

But now Guevara is just a victory over Darby Allin away from getting that title shot himself. Is having Sammy win part of MJF’s plan too, or does he have another trick up his sleeve?

There are also two title matches on the AEW Dynamite card tonight. Jade Cargill will put both her TBS Championship and her undefeated record on the line against Taya Valkyrie, possibly her most powerful opponent to date. And since it’s another week, it must mean another Orange Cassidy title defense, this time against Bandido.

Also, as you may have heard Tony Khan will be appearing on this week’s episode as well. Is he about to confirm to the world that we’ll all be watching two more hours of AEW action every week on Saturday night? Or is this particular announcement about something else?

AEW Rampage results: Rey Fenix tries to dethrone Powerhouse Hobbs

Get quick AEW Rampage results for March 17, 2023, as Rey Fenix challenges Powerhouse Hobbs for the TNT Championship.

AEW Rampage is usually on at 10 p.m. ET on Friday nights. Sometimes it airs at other times, or occasionally on other days, because TNT is showing sports. This week? We’re staying up late, baby!

That’s because arguably the biggest sporting event that TNT airs is the first few rounds of the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament. You might also know it as March Madness. Please don’t sue us for using it here, we’re doing it for non-commercial purposes.

In any case, Rampage might be worth waiting for, if you like Rey Fenix. As we do. He’ll try to take the TNT Championship from a man who just won it and isn’t likely to release his hold on it easily, Powerhouse Hobbs.

Taya Valkyrie made some waves when she showed up on Dynamite, and she’ll make her in-ring AEW debut on this show too. Let’s see how she looks and what else is in store now that hoops is finally over … until tomorrow.

AEW Dynamite results: House of Black spoils title bids by 2 of Winnipeg’s finest

AEW Dynamite results for March 15 from Winnipeg, with The Elite vs. Jericho Appreciation Society vs. House of Black for the Trios titles.

Winnipeggers, who you got: Chris Jericho or Kenny Omega? There’s no real wrong answer to that question as both are among the greats of pro wrestling, but it’s relevant because both men are front and center for a big match on tonight’s AEW Dynamite from Winnipeg.

And if you believe good things come in threes, then you’ll like this a lot: The Elite vs. Jericho Appreciation Society vs. House of Black for the AEW World Trios Championship. That’s a lot of star power in one title match, and it’s pretty darn cool to see big names going for trios gold. Alas, the House just won these belts and isn’t likely to give them up easily, plus we’re assuming their control over AEW’s lighting extends north of the border as well.

Orange Cassidy was a fighting All-Atlantic Champion, and will no doubt keep that same fighting spirit even though his title is now the International Championship. He’s got a veteran challenger in Jeff Jarrett, so it’s possible his reign with this incarnation of the championship might be a short one.

In contrast, MJF has made it clear he doesn’t expect to lose his beloved Triple B, better known as the AEW World Championship, any time soon. He’s not wrestling in Winnipeg, but he is having his re-bar mitzvah ceremony, so … yeah, there’s that.

Last but not least, no one has been bad enough to take the AEW TNBS Championship from undefeated Jade Cargill. She’s put out an open challenge to any Canadian woman to face her for the title tonight, meaning we could see someone who isn’t an AEW regular and will spice things up.

AEW Dynamite results in 90 seconds:

AEW Rampage results: Mark Briscoe announces Reach for the Sky ladder match

Action Andretti might have Chris Jericho’s number, but that can’t necessarily be said about the rest of the Jericho Appreciation Society. That small but important distinction will come into play tonight, as he once again takes on Sammy Guevara on AEW Rampage.

You might say it’s because Sammy cheats. Jericho would say it’s because he wrestles smarter. Tomato, tomato. Oh wait that pun doesn’t work in print. But you get the idea.

We’ll also hear from Mark Briscoe and his idea for how to “move on” with the ROH World Tag Team Championship. That should be good.

AEW Dynamite results: Orange Cassidy wins last ever All-Atlantic title match, Hobbs is golden

If there’s a harder working champion in major pro wrestling right now than Orange Cassidy, we don’t know who it is. In stark contrast to his laidback vibe, Freshly Squeezed puts his All-Atlantic Championship on the line at just about every opportunity (he’s made 13 defenses since winning it last October), as he’ll do again tonight on AEW Dynamite from Sacramento.

What makes this time different is that it’s a rubber match of sorts. Jay Lethal has already had one crack at Cassidy’s title and came up short, but he also pinned Orange last August in their only other singles match. If Lethal can grab a victory on Dynamite, he’ll win not only the championship but also some bragging rights, and he’ll almost certainly have Jeff Jarrett, Satnam Singh and Sonjay Dutt in his corner to aid in that effort.

Another title is also on the line in Sacramento, as Wardlow squares off with Powerhouse Hobbs. Wardlow just reclaimed the TNT Championship at Revolution, and Hobbs won his shot in the Face of the Revolution ladder match just prior. Something obviously has to give in this battle of two very large, muscular men.

Other matches on this week’s Dynamite card include Blackpool Combat Club vs. Dark Order, Top Flight and AR Fox vs. the Jericho Appreciation Society, and Ruby Soho vs. Skye Blue. Plus we’ll hear from Hangman Adam Page for the first time since his brutal but triumphant Texas Death match with Jon Moxley at Revolution. Wonder if the cowboy has his eyes on a meeting with the world champ sometime soon …

  • The JAS makes its case for being the No. 1 contenders for the trios title, but The Elite has something to say about that, and the House of Black tells both teams to come get them
  • Tony Khan says Cassidy will face Jarrett next week, when the All-Atlantic Championship will “level up” to become the International Championship
