AEW Dynamite results: MJF’s plan goes awry, Hikaru Shida fools us all

We’ll find out tonight if MJF will be facing three angry Pillars trying to take his title at Double or Nothing.

It’s time to see if MJF has played the medium game correctly tonight on AEW Dynamite.

See, he knew that all three of AEW’s so-called Four Pillars were aiming for his AEW World Championship. So he tried to play them off against each other, and even paid Sammy Guevara to try to get past the other two and then lay down for him at Double or Nothing.

And like lots of stuff MJF does, it almost worked.

But not quite, and now he has to team with Guevara tonight to face Jack Perry and Darby Allin. If his team wins, he only has to defend his title against Guevara. If not, well, all three Pillars will be trying to take his gold. We’ll see if he can keep this particular house of cards (since AEW loves the casino analogies) from falling down.

In other news, it’s the third of May, so AEW is celebrating with a Tres de Mayo Trios Battle Royale. We’re assuming the winner gets a title shot, or something? Maybe? Anyway it’s a good reason to watch the amazing team of Lucha Bros. and El Hijo del Vikingo. We’re sold just on that.

AEW says we’ll also hear from The Elite tonight. The trio has been having a rough time as of late in their ongoing beef with the Blackpool Combat Club, which along with being in a perpetually foul mood, also outnumbers them four to three. That may have changed with the arrival of Konosuke Takeshita, but there’s no guarantee the Japanese up-and-comer is on the same page, and the BCC will no doubt be trying to keep it that way.

AEW Dynamite results: House of Black spoils title bids by 2 of Winnipeg’s finest

AEW Dynamite results for March 15 from Winnipeg, with The Elite vs. Jericho Appreciation Society vs. House of Black for the Trios titles.

Winnipeggers, who you got: Chris Jericho or Kenny Omega? There’s no real wrong answer to that question as both are among the greats of pro wrestling, but it’s relevant because both men are front and center for a big match on tonight’s AEW Dynamite from Winnipeg.

And if you believe good things come in threes, then you’ll like this a lot: The Elite vs. Jericho Appreciation Society vs. House of Black for the AEW World Trios Championship. That’s a lot of star power in one title match, and it’s pretty darn cool to see big names going for trios gold. Alas, the House just won these belts and isn’t likely to give them up easily, plus we’re assuming their control over AEW’s lighting extends north of the border as well.

Orange Cassidy was a fighting All-Atlantic Champion, and will no doubt keep that same fighting spirit even though his title is now the International Championship. He’s got a veteran challenger in Jeff Jarrett, so it’s possible his reign with this incarnation of the championship might be a short one.

In contrast, MJF has made it clear he doesn’t expect to lose his beloved Triple B, better known as the AEW World Championship, any time soon. He’s not wrestling in Winnipeg, but he is having his re-bar mitzvah ceremony, so … yeah, there’s that.

Last but not least, no one has been bad enough to take the AEW TNBS Championship from undefeated Jade Cargill. She’s put out an open challenge to any Canadian woman to face her for the title tonight, meaning we could see someone who isn’t an AEW regular and will spice things up.

AEW Rampage results: The Kingdom comes to Canada

Get quick AEW Rampage results for its Canada debut on October 14, 2022 from Toronto.

O Canada! You’ve got AEW Rampage in your area for the first time. Good for you.

Unlike most weeks, this one wasn’t taped after AEW Dynamite on Wednesday, but instead was recorded as its own show on Thursday from the same venue (Coca-Cola Coliseum) that hosted Dynamite. Different, but yet not so different at the same time, as spoilers were out there.

But you didn’t read ’em? Cool, then we got you covered here with a quick recap of what went down.

AEW Rampage results in 30 seconds:

  • Jon Moxley and Claudio Castagnoli def. The Butcher and The Blade
  • Mox and Claudio tell Hangman Adam Page he’s “gonna get stepped on” if he doesn’t step up next Tuesday on Dynamite
  • Swerve Strickland and Keith Lee air out some of their differences in front of Renee Paquette, with Lee saying his partner is “swerving into the wrong lane”
  • Dark Order’s interview is crashed by Jose The Assistant, so 10 sends him to tell Rush he wants a match next week, and Stu Grayson is back
  • The Jericho Appreciation Society comes out to gloat, and Daniel Garcia says he is a sports entertainer, but Dalton Castle says he’s willing to break Chris Jericho’s back to give fans a ROH World Champion they deserve

AEW Dynamite live report: Even less in numbers, Philly crowd still hot

Wrestling Junkie reflects on the best moments, crowd reactions and more, live from the September 28 AEW Dynamite in Philadelphia.

PHILADELPHIA — If absence makes the heart grow fonder, perhaps the opposite is also true. When AEW Dynamite went live on Wednesday night from The Liacouras Center on the campus of Temple University, it was in front of a noticeably lighter crowd than the last time the show came to Philly.

Then again, said show was just over five months ago.

There’s definitely a law of diminishing returns when it comes to how often pro wrestling promotions can hold events in the same venues, and with only a few years of operation under its belt, AEW is still feeling its way through some of these things. Maybe Dynamite and Rampage simply hadn’t been gone long enough to make this particular show a must-see for fans in the area.

AEW had something else working against it on this particular night: Mother Nature. Though the weather was fine in the Philadelphia area, Hurricane Ian was menacing the company’s home state of Florida. Tony Khan had already informed talent that if anyone needed to miss the show because of travel or family concerns, they had his blessing.

Several wrestlers reportedly were forced to cancel plans to participate, leading to some changes to Dynamite. It felt just a slight bit off, or at least different than the usual. Instead of the match that kicks off most Wednesday broadcasts, there was an extended in-ring bit with the Jericho Appreciation Society, one that felt like one of the longer non-wrestling opens in Dynamite history.

Another segment featured recent AEW debutant Saraya calling out the entire women’s division, or a good chunk of it anyway. That one led somewhere, namely an interim women’s title match between Toni Storm and Serena Deeb with the other women as lumberjacks, but it still seemed a bit disjointed. And there was additional filler, like a squash match for Ricky Starks.

Despite a number of hurdles, though, Dynamite didn’t have a less enthusiastic crowd, even if it was smaller. Philadelphia has long been a hotbed of the east coast wrestling scene, and it sounded that way again on Wednesday. With few exceptions, the fans reacted to pretty much everything offered and seemed pleased by the end of the night.

Some random observations from section 114, row K:

  • Masterful as ever at trolling fans, MJF appeared on a pre-recorded video that played (several times in a row) before Dynamite went live, singing “Meet the Mets.” He also riled up the crowd in person during his segment of the show, and it’ll be interesting to see how Wheeler Yuta, who can go in the ring but is a ways behind MJF in terms of mic skills, might get a rub from working against him.
  • Khan got a mix of boos and cheers when he spoke to the crowd immediately before Dynamite, but that appeared to be mostly due to his role with the Jacksonville Jaguars, who play the Philadelphia Eagles this weekend.
  • “We want pizza” chants were a recurring theme all the way until the end of Dynamite thanks to the Jericho Appreciation Society having some pies, but not sharing them, to open the show. Also, poor Luigi Primo got KOed by Daniel Garcia and carried out by Sammy Guevara like a sack of potatoes.
  • Juice Robinson had a nice match with Jon Moxley, but the crowd definitely tailed off in the middle, and it didn’t seem like everyone knew who Juice was.
  • Hangman Adam Page remains very popular, starting from the time his music hits. The live crowd was definitely into his staredown with Moxley.
  • Jamie Hayter is incredibly over right now, getting such a loud face reaction at one point that it was hard for Britt Baker to talk over it. She’s set to be a breakout star whenever AEW decides to push start on her inevitable face turn.
  • Bandido was more warmly received than Robinson as a “visitor” to AEW, but that was likely because of his history with ROH and the fact that he was the face in the main event. Putting him in a big spot for the TV audience was a nice touch, however, because he is terrific.
  • No spoilers for AEW Rampage, but The Acclaimed was on the show, and being there in person during the run they’re on right now is definitely special.

Opening Bell: Riddle takes on The Judgment Day, AEW rolls into Philly

WWE Raw preview – Monday, Sept. 26, Rogers Place, Edmonton

Matt Riddle, you may have bitten off more than you can chew.

Just about everyone who has tangled with The Judgment Day has come to regret it, though arguably none more than Rey Mysterio since he lost his son to the group. Nevertheless, Riddle has gotten tangled up with Judgment Day business during his own ongoing vendetta against Seth Rollins, and will try to make the best of it Monday night by defeating Damian Priest.

The trick, of course, is dealing with the rest of the group. He may not even have Rey to back him up since the elder Mysterio has his own match with Rollins to worry about.

Also on tap for this week’s show in Edmonton:

AEW Dynamite preview – Wednesday, Sept. 28, The Liacouras Center, Philadelphia

The Forbidden Door isn’t closed. No sir, as Jon Moxley is about to find out this week on Dynamite, it still is open a crack every now and then, and you never know who might walk through it.

In this case, it’s NJPW’s Juice Robinson, showing up in Philly for an AEW World Championship Eliminator. And while we don’t usually like these “beat the champ to get a shot at the champ’s title” bouts, we’ll make an exception for Rock Hard in this case.

AEW is also promoting these segments for Dynamite:

  • Saraya will speak, following her dramatic debut at Grand Slam.
  • The Jericho Appreciation Society will hold a championship celebration after the seemingly unlikely Chris Jericho ROH World Championship victory … and maybe say something about fellow ROH champ Daniel Garcia too.
  • MJF will be on the show to stir the pot again, probably.

WWE SmackDown preview – Friday, Sept. 30, Canada Life Centre, Winnipeg

WWE continues its tour of the North by hitting Winnipeg for SmackDown on Friday night. If you watched any college or NFL football this past weekend, you no doubt heard Michael Cole’s voice on promos advertising a few matches already set for this show.

Most notably, new BFFs Solo Sikoa and Sami Zayn will team to face Madcap Moss and Ricochet. The latter duo was only trying to warn Sami about his inevitable heartbreaking betrayal by the Bloodline, but Solo wasn’t trying to hear that talk and gave them a good thrashing.

Two other matches have also already been revealed for SmackDown in Winnipeg:

  • Shotzi, perhaps finally driving her cool tank again, will nonetheless be the underdog when she faces Bayley.
  • After being publicly disrespected by Los Lotharios during their watch party last week, Hit Row will get a chance at some payback.

AEW Rampage preview – Friday, Sept. 30, The Liacouras Center, Philadelphia (recorded on Sept. 28)

AEW has actually been doing a nice job of teasing some Rampage matches a week in advance, but that wasn’t the case this time out thanks to Grand Slam being a bigger than normal deal in its own right (and expanding to two hours just for last week).

So surprise! We may know more as we get closer, and certainly by the time Dynamite is on some matches will be revealed before they are taped later Wednesday night, but this show is a question mark for the time being.

AEW Blood and Guts live results: JAS, BCC collide

Check out AEW Blood and Guts live results on the special episode of Dynamite on June 29 from Little Caesars Arena in Detroit.

Detroit, are you ready to rock? And by rock, we mean bear witness to some Blood and Guts. It’s a special episode of AEW Dynamite coming to us tonight from the Little Caesars Arena, and one that’s sure to feature a special kind of violence inherent in the name.

What exactly is a Blood and Guts match? It takes more than a few cues from the original WarGames matches from back in the day, with an oversized steel cage that is big enough to house two wrestling rings. Two teams compete, and the winner can only be decided by submission or surrender, which is basically submitting on behalf of a teammate. No pinfalls or cage escapes in this one.

The teams are generally even, but because of a stipulation during one of the bouts at Forbidden Door, the Jericho Appreciation Society is headed into tonight’s match with a one-man advantage over the Blackpool Combat Club. As well, since the combatants enter one at a time, there should be various times during the match when the JAS has a numerical advantage, which could be huge.

There’s also the not insignificant question of whether the BCC side will even all be on the same page. Eddie Kingston was already a wild card of sorts due to his … shall we say, philosophical differences with Bryan Danielson. The American Dragon is still out due to injury, but his replacement is Claudio Castagnoli, who made his AEW debut at Forbidden Door.

Which is great, right? Everyone loves the former Cesaro. Well, not everyone, including Kingston, who has made it very publicly known that he doesn’t trust Claudio. That’s something to keep an eye on as the match plays out.

Welcome to the Opening Bell, where we round up what’s been announced for WWE (Raw and SmackDown) and AEW (Dynamite and Rampage) programming for the week ahead.

WWE Raw preview – Monday, June 27, Sames Auto Arena, Laredo, Texas

Hit the trumpets! After being gone for some time thanks to a busy schedule of Hollywood roles, John Cena returns to Raw to celebrate 20 years in WWE. It seems like only yesterday when he was the Doctor of Thuganomics, but it was, in fact, more than a decade ago. Along with celebrating his many contributions to the company, expect a party crasher by the name of Theory to set up a match for SummerSlam.

Also, Kevin Owens‘ quest to prove Ezekiel and Elias are the same person hit a major bump in the road last week, when Elias performed his first concert in month, then broke a guitar over K.O.’s back. Enraged, Owens challenged Ezekiel or Elias or “their even younger brother” Elrod to a match for Laredo, so the fun will be seeing which one of them walks down the ramp.

AEW Dynamite Blood and Guts preview – Wednesday, June 29, Little Caesars Arena, Detroit

It’s time for Blood and Guts, the match that threw Chris Jericho off a steel cage last year. Times have changed, however, with Jericho now leading the Jericho Appreciation Society, definitely not the fan favorite faction (alliteration is great) this time around. They’ll go up against the Blackpool Combat Club, newly bolstered by the arrival of Claudio Castagnoli during Forbidden Door.

But there is tension on the BCC side as well, with the combustible Eddie Kingston not always getting along with the Club members proper. That could be an issue in a match this intense.

Also, expect to see fallout from Forbidden Door, because it was a great show bound to reverberate through AEW programming in various ways.

WWE SmackDown – Friday, July 1, Footprint Center, Phoenix

Pat McAfee isn’t just a podcaster and announcer with the strongest leg in the universe. He’s acquitted himself well in a WWE ring so far, even if his 1-3 record doesn’t quite show it. Now he’s engaged in a war of words with Happy Corbin, and feeling good enough about himself to call Corbin out for a match at SummerSlam. Happy is expected to give his answer to the ex-NFL punter on Friday, and we’d be surprised if he doesn’t accept.

AEW Rampage – Friday, July 1, Little Caesars Arena, Detroit (taped on June 29)

AEW hasn’t released any info yet for this show, mostly thanks to it having two big events in less than a week. One thing to watch for is Swerve Strickland and Keith Lee, who were victorious on the Buy-In at Forbidden Door but then immediately under verbal assault from Ricky Starks and Powerhouse Hobbs. Another showdown between the two teams would make a lot of sense as the featured match on Rampage this week, but we’ll have to wait until Wednesday, most likely, to see.

AEW Double or Nothing: Everything you need to know

Prepare for AEW Double or Nothing 2022 with the full card, previews and predictions for every match.

Get ready to hear your favorite (or least favorite) gambling analogies or puns plenty of times on Sunday, because AEW Double or Nothing is back in Las Vegas. After a two-year detour to Jacksonville due to the COVID-19 pandemic, AEW’s Memorial Day weekend pay-per-view returns to its spiritual home, this time at the T-Mobile Arena — which also hosts Dynamite and Rampage this week.

Heading up the card is an AEW World Championship match between titleholder Hangman Adam Page and challenger CM Punk. But there are plenty of other championships at stake, as Thunder Rosa, Jade Cargill, and Jungle Boy and Luchasaurus will all put their titles on the line as well. There are even rumors that more titles will make their debuts, because the winners of the Owen Hart Foundation tournaments will also be crowned, and could receive some gold of their own.

We’ll update this article with those two finals once they’re decided as well as the Wardlow vs. MJF match that is all but assured to be finalized. Until then, read on for everything you need to know to prepare yourself for AEW Double or Nothing.

AEW Rampage results: Hookhausen trains, Blackpool Combat Club wins again

We’re not quite in the home stretch for Double or Nothing, but tonight’s episode of AEW Rampage from Houston is pretty darn close. Before we head to Las Vegas for all of AEW”s shows next week, there’s some business to attend to in the form of the Owen Hart Foundation Women’s Tournament. Kris Statlander, a late entry to the bracket, takes on Red Velvet for the right to face Ruby Soho in one semifinal.

AEW has also promised the latest from the duo the fans have dubbed Hookhausen: Hook and Danhausen. This odd couple (and to be fair, it’s mostly Danhausen who’s odd) has formed to combat Tony Nese and his meddling manager, Smart Mark Sterling. Though Sterling is hurt, Danhausen is Danhausen, so this could be a somewhat even fight during the Double or Nothing pre-show.

And for some reason, Matt Sydal and Dante Martin challenged the Blackpool Combat Club to a match. That’s likely to end in a BCC win, but we shall see.

AEW Rampage results in 30 seconds:

House of Black def. Evil Uno, Pres10 Vance and Fuego Del Sol by pinfall

Fuego has ongoing beef with House of Black, but Dark Order has been feuding with them as well, so this is more than a marriage of convenience. Malakai Black tries for a leg lock that makes 10 pound his way out of it, and Fuego tags himself in.

Buddy Matthews mocks Penta’s cero miedo hand sign as he gets in to work for the first time, and Brody King is quickly in as well. Uno escapes a power move from King, but Fuego gets knocked off the apron to the floor.

After some picture in picture goodness, Fuego makes the hot tag to 10, who even manages to send King to the floor. Uno hits a nice cannonball senton to the floor as his Dark Order teammate gets a near fall.

Black gets 10 in a kneebar but Uno is able to get a quick save. 10 connects on a discus lariat on Black, but his now injured knee is a problem. That leaves Uno and King to face off, but King backdrops out of a powerbomb attempt. As all heck is breaking loose with the other combatants, King hits a big clothesline and his powerbomb finisher to score the pinfall.

Death Triangle comes to the ramp, where Penta Oscuro reveals a tombstone with the House of Black’s name on it and a Double or Nothing placard. Ominous.

The announcer sell this as Spears’ opportunity to show he can handle Wardlow, but … this isn’t much of a giant. It’s Big Damo, formerly known as Killian Dain. He actually handles Spears jus fine in the opening minutes, but one knee and a C4 wraps things up.

Kris Statlander def. Red Velvet by pinfall – Owen Hart Foundation Women’s Quarterfinal

Since she will face the winner, Ruby Soho is a logical and interested observer on guest commentator. Statlander does an overhead press with Velvet and switches to a single hand, and Soho notes this is a brand new Statlander.

Velvet traps Statlander in the apron skirt as Chris Jericho awards her the Sports Entertainer of the Week award. After a commercial break, Velvet hits the Final Slice but Statlander surprises everyone at the announce table when she kicks out.

When Statlander goes for her finisher, Velvet counters but is countered herself and gets the three count. Kiera Hogan attacks Statlander after the bell, Soho is in there as well, but Jade Cargill makes it three on two. Anna Jay ends up as the equalizer, stealing Mark Sterling’s crutch for use as a weapon to drive off the heels.

Bryan Danielson and Jon Moxley def. Matt Sydal and Dante Martin by pinfall

Excalibur notes how he’s stuck between Taz, Chris Jericho and William Regal at the announce table, which sounds tense but fun. Sydal is hanging in pretty well against Moxley, using kicks and some flashier moves to keep him on the defensive.

Martin has a run of offense while the action is side by side with ads, but Danielson hits him with a double underhook superplex and transitions right into the Lebell Lock. Martin nearly makes the ropes, and gets his foot there when Danielson pulls back his arm. Regal is impressed.

Moxley gets double teamed by his opponents, and Sydal goes up top but decides to give Danielson a meteora on the apron. Martin hits the Nose Dive on Moxley and Danielson needs to make a save.

Looks like it’s Mox and Martin to the finish here, and Moxley nearly wins it with a piledriver after he counters a top rope maneuver. A Paradigm Shift seals the deal a moment later, though Moxley is bleeding from the mouth. Regal and Jericho have some words as the former leaves the announce table.

But Jericho isn’t leaving without the final word, and the assembled Jericho Appreciation Society is out on the ramp, followed by Eddie Kingston, Santana and Ortiz.
