Prince Smith signs with the Giants after being waived by the Eagles

The New York Giants have a need at cornerback and the team snagged former Eagles undrafted free agent Prince Smith according to his agency.

The Giants signed Smith after failing to come to terms with cornerback Ross Cockrell, Sam Beal opted out of the 2020 season, and the NFL placed Deandre Baker on the Commissioner Exempt list.

Signed as an undrafted free agent in May, Smith was a four-year starter for New Hampshire and was selected as the Colonial Athletic Association’s Defensive Rookie of the Year in 2016.

Over his final three seasons, Smith started 29 games and was named the team’s Most Outstanding Defensive Player following his senior season in which he finished third on the team in tackles (64), second in interceptions (three) and second in pass breakups (seven).

In a corresponding move, the team claimed defensive tackle Bruce Hector off waivers from the Philadelphia Eagles.

The Carolina Panthers have waived undrafted wide receiver Trevontae Hights, removing a candidate from a crowded competition to fill the last receiver spot on the roster.

Hector also went undrafted after playing his college football at South Florida, where he posted 18 sacks and 28 tackles for a loss in 31 games. He has mostly been on and off Philadelphia’s roster for the last two years. Hector has played in 11 games with the Eagles, totaling half a sack and two tackles in limited action on defense.

Bruce Hector wasn’t unemployed long and the former Eagles defensive tackle will now try to make a name for himself in Charlotte after being claimed off waivers by the Carolina Panthers.

Hector was placed on waivers along with defensive back Prince Smith after the Eagles re-signed Vinny Curry. Hector was signed by the Eagles as an undrafted free agent in 2018.

The Philadelphia Eagles continue to reduce their roster and after re-signing defensive end Vinny Curry, the team just announced that they’ve waived defensive tackle Bruce Hector and defensive back Prince Smith.

Hector played college football at South Florida and signed with the Eagles as an undrafted free agent in 2018.

Hector spent the 2019 season on and off the practice squad and the Eagles active roster.
