Browns Vs Ravens: How Baltimore has won, lost this year

How have the Ravens won, loss this season? What can the Browns learn?

The Baltimore Ravens are 7-3 while already having their bye week in 2021. The Ravens were expected to be a contender this season but have suffered injury upon injury that has limited the team’s talent level and depth. Despite all of that, they have found ways to get victories while their Week 12 opponent, the Cleveland Browns, have found ways to lose similar games.

This week’s AFC North matchup could be the most important game in the division this year. A Browns win could boost their confidence going into the bye week and the rematch in Week 14. A Cleveland loss could send them into a spiral or major changes during their bye.

For Baltimore, who are fighting a number of injuries this week, Week 12 is a chance to try to put a nail in the coffin, at least for the AFC North, for one of their opponents. Cincinnati and Pittsburgh also have winning records this year.

In preparation, we looked back at the Ravens season so far to see how they won and lost games so far:

Ravens injury report: 10 don’t practice, others limited

A whole host of Ravens missed practice or were limited on Wednesday. Attrition is a big issue for Baltimore this year:

The Cleveland Browns are not the only AFC North team that has dealt with a lot of injuries this year. Their Week 12 foe, the Baltimore Ravens, have had injury upon injury beset the team starting in training camp and continuing throughout the season.

While Lamar Jackson returned to practice on Wednesday, a long list of Ravens players did not practice or were limited. With all their many players lost for the season, depth could be a huge concern for their matchup with the Browns this week.

Did Not Practice

  • CB Anthony Averett
  • WR Miles Boykin
  • DE Calais Campbell
  • LB Justin Houston (rest)
  • OL Patrick Mekari
  • OL Cedric Ogbuehi
  • FB Patrick Ricard
  • CB Jimmy Smith
  • CB Chis Westry
  • CB Tavon Young

Limited Participation

  • WR Marquise Brown
  • LB Josh Bynes
  • WR Devin Duvernay
  • DT Brandon Williams

As the week goes on, it is likely that Baltimore has more and more of these players as active participants in practice but the sheer volume of players missing practice is interesting.

The Ravens have been surviving games recently more than winning them. Despite their AFC North-leading 7-3 record, the Ravens have struggled with Chicago and Minnesota since their bye week and lost to Miami. The Browns barely beating Detroit last week doesn’t build confidence on their side either.

Two teams with winning records but with their fair share of injuries and struggles this season meet up in Week 12. We will keep you updated with injury concerns for both sides as the week goes on.

Browns open as slight underdog versus Ravens in Week 12

Likely due to the unknown nature of Ravens QB Lamar Jackson, the Browns are only a slight underdog for Week 12. The line could move drastically based on Jackson’s health:

The Cleveland Browns are 6-5 on the year and are coming off a lackluster victory over the winless Detroit Lions and going into the most important stretch of their season. With two games against the AFC North-leading Baltimore Ravens, with their bye week sandwiched in between, the story of the Browns 2021 NFL season will likely be written in the next three weeks.

The Ravens were once again victorious in Week 11 despite missing their dynamic quarterback, Lamar Jackson, due to illness. It has been reported that Jackson does not have COVID-19 again but the nature of the illness is unknown at this time.

Perhaps because of the unknown nature of Jackson’s illness and his status for Week 12, the Ravens only open the week as a 3.5 point favorite over the Browns, according to Tipico.

As the home team, Baltimore would generally get three points automatically so the 3.5 point spread would indicate the home team is only very slightly better than the visiting team.

The Ravens have been far from perfect in 2021 and been decimated by injuries but have been able to overcome time and time again. Fully healthy, it is likely that the line would move significantly. That still could happen if Jackson is deemed healthy and ready to go for the game soon.

The 46.5 over/under line is closer to the top of Week 12’s lines than it is the bottom with a surprisingly high number of lines in the low 40’s for the week.
