Browns barely tame the Lions: What we know after the win

A sloppy, ugly game but a win is a win. A few things we learned about the Browns in Week 11:

The Cleveland Browns defeated the Detroit Lions 13-10 in their Week 11 matchup in a game that was ugly all around for both teams. The difference is that the home team Browns were expected to compete with the top of the league while the Lions still haven’t won a game this season.

Despite that, the game came down to late in the fourth quarter and Cleveland needing to salt away time on the back of running back Nick Chubb and the team’s offensive line.

The defense did their part most of the game but allowed D’Andre Swift to break a long 57-yarder and finish the game with 136 yards on 14 carries. With Tim Boyle making his first NFL start, the Browns defense didn’t have much of a threat in the passing game and had two interceptions.

As we noted Saturday, this was a no-win game for the Browns. Barely beating the lowly Lions was only slightly better than losing to them in terms of the narrative discussion but is significantly important in the standings.

What did we learn in Week 11?

Browns Vs Lions: Week 11 highlights

Keeping up with all the big highlights from Browns Vs Lions in Week 11. Rewatch them all here:

The Cleveland Browns and Detroit Lions locked horns in Week 11 of the NFL season. The Browns, with their high expectations, need a win to keep from falling below .500. The Lions, transitioning under Dan Campbell, are looking for their first victory no the season.

Cleveland has been a little up and down when it comes to highlights. Some games bring highlight after highlight. Some games, like last week, are bereft of them.

With weather a concern for the game, it would not be shocking to see a low scoring game but a wet ball could lead to turnovers. A wet field could lead to slipping issues especially with defenders who are reacting to the offensive players.

We will post all the big highlights for you to rewatch here from today’s game:

The Lions had a nice game last week as they still look for their first win after a 16-16 tie last week, that should give them some momentum into this week. As for the Browns, we found out this week that Baker Mayfield is dealing with some injuries after a 45-7 loss to the Patriots last week.

Browns Vs Lions Week 11 official inactives list

The official inactives list is out. Who is in? Who is out? How could it impact the game and your fantasy football teams?

The Cleveland Browns and Detroit Lions face off in Week 11 of the NFL season. Both teams have a number of injury concerns going into the game. Earlier this morning we got updates from Ian Rapoport that noted Browns WR Donovan Peoples-Jones was unlikely for the game and Lions RB Jamaal Williams was likely to play.

Lions starting quarterback Jared Goff has been listed as doubtful for the game with the expectation that Tim Boyle would replace him. Boyle’s resume is quite thin.

Now, 90 minutes prior to kickoff, both teams released their official inactives list for the game:

Browns

WR Anthony Schwartz

WR Donovan Peoples-Jones

DE Takk McKinley

CB Troy Hill

CB AJ Green

DE Ifeadi Odenigbo

Quite a few contributors out for the Browns today, how will their loss impact the game?

Lions

LB Trey Flowers

QB Jared Goff

OL Matt Nelson

LB Jessie Lemonier

RB Jermar Jefferson

WR Trinity Benson

K Riley Patterson

Will the loss of Goff be a good thing or bad for Detroit this week?

Will any of the injuries change the result of today’s game?

Browns vs. Lions Week 11: How to watch, listen and stream

Browns Vs Lions: How to watch, listen and stream along with the referee assignment and link to our friend’s (Jeff Risdon) Lions Wire site:

The Cleveland Browns turned the page on an eventful week in Week 9 with a victory. In Week 10, without Nick Chubb, Demetric Felton and others, the team failed miserably to build on the momentum.

The Browns now face the Detroit Lions in a game they are expected to win. Thankfully, the AFC has been full of teams struggling to be consistent all year, keeping Cleveland in the playoff race despite their 5-5 record.

The Lions, on the other hand, are coming off their first non-loss of the season after tying the Pittsburgh Steelers last week. At 0-8-1, Detroit ensured they would not become the first team ever with an 0-17 record. This week, they aim for their first victory of the season.

Browns Vs Lions: Early Sunday injuries updates include RB likely, WR unlikely

A couple of early Sunday injury updates for today’s game. One bad for Browns, one good for Lions. Fantasy football players take note:

The Cleveland Browns and Detroit Lions have a lot of injury concerns on both sides of the ball going into their Week 11 matchup on the shores of Lake Erie. The Browns have struggled with injuries all year while trying to meet lofty goals while the Lions season has been about transitioning under Dan Campbell.

On the final injury report, the two teams listed six players as out, six as questionable and one as doubtful. The one doubtful player, Jared Goff, is unlikely to play at quarterback putting Tim Doyle in position for his first start ever.

Who is Doyle? We provided a short background on the player last night including a college highlight video that Doyle seemingly posted himself.

Early Sunday, a few updates have come out on other questionable players for the game that could impact the game as well as some fantasy football lineups:

  • Browns WR Donovan Peoples-Jones is unlikely to play with his groin injury

  • Lions RB Jamaal Williams is expected to play after missing multiple weeks:

Peoples-Jones has stepped in as Cleveland’s big-play outside receiver replacing Odell Beckham Jr. The Browns offense relies heavily on the running game and multiple tight ends in the passing game. Without Peoples-Jones, Rashard Higgins could get more playing time.

Williams has been an important part of the running back rotation for Detroit along with D’Andre Swift. On the season, he has a solid 4.4 yards per carry average while Swift is down at 3.4.

We will have the official inactives list for the game around 11:30 today.

Browns in a no win situation except the scoreboard Sunday

A no-win situation for the Browns that they need to Al Davis it and ‘just win baby’:

The Cleveland Browns are 5-5 this season after coming in with sky-high expectations. They have lost to quality opponents throughout the year while mostly beating up on inferior ones.

In Week 11, the Browns must win the game but find themselves in a no-win situation. If Cleveland runs the Detroit Lions out of the building, they are expected to do that. The Lions have yet to win a game this season and came into the year with low expectations as they turned over the franchise, once again.

If the Browns beat the Lions but do not do so convincingly, the questions raised over the start of the season will only be heightened.

A loss Sunday would lead to an apocalyptic type response from both the media and fans alike.

The best-case scenario for Cleveland is continuing the narrative that they can out talent bad teams. The worst-case scenario is losing to winless Detroit before facing off with the Baltimore Ravens twice on each side of the Browns bye week.

Week 11 is a no-win situation for Cleveland in every way except the scoreboard. Nothing they can do about that besides channeling the late Al Davis and “Just win baby.”

Browns open as big favorites versus the Lions, point total expected to be low

Despite (maybe because of?) playing terrible in Week 10, the Browns are big favorites in Week 11 but the point total line is quite low:

The Cleveland Browns and Detroit Lions face off on the shores of Lake Erie in Week 11. The Lions are winless on the year but, somehow, come in on a more positive note than the Browns.

Detroit pushed the Pittsburgh Steelers to a tie in Week 10 as Jared Goff and Mason Rudolph (due to Ben Roethlisberger’s COVID-19 absence) set quarterbacking back a few decades.

Again, Cleveland was somehow worse with Baker Mayfield throwing for less than 100 yards before getting injured in the second half.

Despite all of that, the Browns are currently favored by 9.5 points versus the Lions this week according to Tipico Sportsbook.

On the unsurprising side, the over/under line is set at 44.5 for the game. Only the New Orleans/Philadelphia and Washington/Carolina games are lower at 43.5. Two limited offenses, Miami and the New York Jets, are also listed at 44.5 total for their game.

Cleveland is 5 – 5 and played their worst football in Week 10. Detroit is 0 – 8 – 1 and played some of their best football in Week 10. The home team Browns are still a huge favorite over the visiting Lions.

Given the chaos the 2021 NFL season has brought, anything can happen on any given Sunday.
