Prediction

76ers 112, Nets 100

Moneyline (ML)

The Nets (+190) are coming off a 110-102 road loss against the Toronto Raptors Saturday. The 76ERS (-239) come in on a five-game winning streak and they had Saturday off following a 116-109 home win over the New Orleans Pelicans Friday.

Philly is just 6-7 on the road for the season while Brooklyn is 7-5 at home. The Sixers outscore their opponents by 6.2 points per game. The Nets are outscored by an average of 0.8 PPG. Brooklyn continues to miss LeVert and Irving. It doesn’t have enough balance on the offensive end behind PG Spencer Dinwiddie, who has led the team in scoring each of the last three games.

New to sports betting? A $10 bet on the 76ers to win outright returns a profit of $4.18.

Against the Spread (ATS)

Get better value on the 76ERS (-4.5, -125) when backing them to win by at least 5 points. The Nets are 13-12 against the spread overall and 7-5 ATS at home while the 76ers are 12-12-3 overall and 5-7-1 on the road, but each of Brooklyn’s last two losses was decided by a margin of at least 5 points. Each of Philly’s last five wins was decided by 5 or more points.

Over/Under (O/U)

Take the UNDER 217.5 (-115). It’s a number the Nets fell short of Saturday night and they’ve now played to the Under in three of their last four games. The Sixers are just 12-14-1 against the projected totals this year while falling an average of 1 point shy of the number. Brooklyn hit the Under in the second half of both of its back-to-backs this season.

Prediction

Raptors 108, Nets 94

Moneyline (ML)

The Raptors (-333) come in having won just six of their last 10 games and have slipped to fifth in the Eastern Conference. They’re coming off a 112-92 home loss against Kawhi Leonard and the Los Angeles Clippers Wednesday. It was their fourth loss in their last five games.

Still, they’re 9-3 at home for the year and will be able to handle the undermanned Nets (+260) with relative ease; however, we’ll PASS as a $10 bet on the Raps to win outright would return a profit of just $3. Brooklyn took a 113-108 loss against the Charlotte Hornets Wednesday and is just 6-6 on the road. This is the first meeting of the year between the two.

Against the Spread (ATS)

Take the RAPTORS (-7.5, -115) with the points. They’ll need to win by at least 8 points against the wounded Nets. The Raps are at relatively full health, and they’re 13-11 against the spread overall but 8-4 ATS on home court. The Nets are 13-11 ATS overall but just 6-6 on the road.

Twelve of Toronto’s 16 wins on the year were by margins of at least 8 points.

Over/Under (O/U)

Go with the UNDER 219.5 (-115) as both teams come in with plenty of rest and will be able to put forth a strong defensive effort. The Nets played to the Under in three of their last five games. They’re lacking too much offensive firepower to put up enough points against the reigning champs.

Four potential Kevin Love trade destinations

HoopsHype breaks down the latest Kevin Love trade rumors and examines potential destinations for the five-time All-Star.

After a long, painfully dry drought of trade rumors in the NBA, one that was historically lengthy, ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski broke the silence on Friday by reporting that the Cleveland Cavaliers are finally ready to hear offers for five-time All-Star Kevin Love.

If one deal is on the way, it would make sense considering the stage of rebuilding Cleveland is currently in (very early on in the process), and how much time is left on Love’s contract (three more seasons after this one). Simply put: Love doesn’t make much sense on the Cavaliers’ roster the way it’s construed at the moment, and he would be better served suiting up for a contender.

Now, that doesn’t mean finding a suitor for Love will be easy. He’s 31, somewhat injury prone and owed a ton of money – over $120 million, to be exact.

Still, Love is putting up good numbers this season (16.7 ppg, 10.7 rpg  on 44.6/37.6/88.1 shooting splits) and if he is made available, contenders will come calling.

So we decided to break down four potential trade destinations for the former champion. Without further ado, let’s check them out.

Brad Penner-USA TODAY Sports

UTAH JAZZ

The Utah Jazz are off to a slow start this season, which isn’t totally out of the ordinary for them under head coach Quin Snyder. Over the past couple of campaigns, Utah has begun at a mediocre level before going on long runs and establishing themselves as a Top 4-caliber team in the West.

So far in 2019-20, the Jazz are 12-10 and boast a net rating of  +0.1, which is about as mediocre as you could get. And considering the expectations they had coming into the season after the additions of Mike Conley and Bojan Bogdanovic, among others, Utah has been pretty disappointing.

One area they could use help in is at the 4-spot, where Snyder has turned to Royce O’Neal and Jeff Green to be the primary options, and the duo have responded by averaging a combined 13.7 points and 7.6 rebounds per game.

Love’s production would far exceed that. What’s more, from a basketball fit sense, the big man’s floor-spacing would form a wonderful synergy with the paint-bound Rudy Gobert, whose defensive prowess would mask Love’s deficiencies on the other end of the floor.

Finding the salaries to match in order to make a deal between the Jazz and Cavs work is tricky, especially with the struggling Joe Ingles ineligible to be traded until the offseason, but a trade can be found using a core package including Bogdanovic, Dante Exum and Ed Davis. Add a Top-10 protected first-rounder and that could be enough to entice Cleveland, who would be acquiring one elite asset and a promising young player on a relatively cheap deal in Exum, who could use a change of scenery.

Brad Penner-USA TODAY Sports

BROOKLYN NETS

Another playoff team in need of a power forward, the Brooklyn Nets would also make sense as potential Love suitors.

Without an injured Kevin Durant, Brooklyn isn’t expected to compete for a title this season, but acquiring Love would raise their ceiling and put them on the same tier as everyone behind the Milwaukee Bucks in the East. Plus, with Kyrie Irving in the fold and Durant set to return next season, having the modern version of the 2015-16 title-winning Cavaliers, with Durant playing the role of LeBron James, could appeal to the Nets.

Love’s post game, one that will be able to flourish again on a team with more threats to score besides just him, will garner the Nets simple buckets when needed, while his floor-spacing would fit well next to a rim-diver like Jarrett Allen. Plus, a frontcourt of Allen and Love would absolutely dominate  opponents on the glass, and the extra possessions gained from the duo’s offensive rebounding could come quite valuable when the playoffs roll around.

Again, due to Love’s massive salary, finding the right swap of salaries here is tricky, but a package including DeAndre JordanJoe Harris (he would be tough to lose but it’d be either him or Spencer Dinwiddie, and the Nets would likely rather keep the latter) and Taurean Prince would come close.

Bill Streicher-USA TODAY Sports

PHOENIX SUNS

The Phoenix Suns are fighting to reach the playoffs this season for the first time with Devin Booker, and acquiring Love could help them achieve that goal, especially with their need at the 4-spot.

Phoenix’s current starter at power forward, Dario Saric, is doing an admirable job manning the position, averaging 10.8 points and 7.0 rebounds per game, but there’s little doubt he’d be better suited for a bench role where he can make plays and attack the basket against weaker second units.

Love at power forward for the Suns would quickly strengthen their starting five; his screen-setting and pick-and-pop prowess would mesh wonderfully with Booker, his floor-spacing would fit well next to the pick-and-rolling Deandre Ayton (due back from suspensions on) and his scoring would give Phoenix a legitimate No. 2 option to get buckets.

Ricky Rubio, Booker, Kelly Oubre, Love and Ayton would form a strong starting lineup, with a healthy blend of both young talent and experienced production.

Additionally, thanks to Tyler Johnson’s bloated (but expiring) $19.3 million salary, finding an acceptable trade between the two parties is a lot easier than it is for other suitors. Phoenix would just have to add just under $5 million in outgoing salary, and some draft capital, to make a reasonable offer for Love.

David Richard-USA TODAY Sports

BOSTON CELTICS

The Boston Celtics are a team that has been rumored to have interest in Love at different points over recent years, so it makes sense that Woj mentioned them in his original report on ESPN on Friday.

With lineups featuring so many athletic wings, so much ball movement and an All-Star point guard, the one area Boston is a bit lacking is in the frontcourt, where Daniel TheisEnes Kanter and Robert Williams are taking the majority of the minutes at the 5.

Love would present an immediate upgrade over any of those guys, and thanks to the versatility defensively of monster point-stoppers like Jaylen Brown and Marcus Smart, Love’s lack of chops as a defender at center could be masked. The Celtics could also choose to keep Theis, an adept rim-protector, starting at center, play Love at the 4 and surround the two bigs with Kemba WalkerJayson Tatum and Brown to form a nasty-yet-well-balanced starting five.

Of course, any deal between the two Eastern Conference rivals would have to include Gordon Hayward, who actually earns more than the player Boston would theoretically be trading for in Love (the swingman is making $32.7 million this season to Love’s $28.9 million).

Considering Boston is 7-4 (while boasting the league’s No. 8 net rating) since Hayward went down, and with how well Brown and Tatum are playing, there’s a chance general manager Danny Ainge feels comfortable moving the former Utah Jazz forward to fill another deficient spot on the roster.

After an awkward and disappointing 2018-19 season, the Celtics look quite impressive thus far this campaign. And Love would only make them better.

Prediction

Nets 113, Hornets 108

Moneyline (ML)

The Nets have won seven of their last 10 games and are 5-6 on the road this season. The Hornets are 9-14 overall and 5-6 at home. Back BROOKLYN (-139) as a slight road favorite even without Irving.

New to sports betting? A $10 wager on Brooklyn to win outright would profit $7.19.

Line/Against the Spread (ATS)

The Nets are 17th against the spread on the road with a mark of 5-6 and come in 0.9 points per game below the cover line. Charlotte is 6-5 ATS at home and comes in a half-point per game below the cover line.

Slightly lean toward BROOKLYN (-2.5, -106) to win by three or more points Friday. It delivers a $9.43 profit on a $10 bet.

Over/Under (O/U)

The projected total is set at 217.5 (Over: -115, Under: -106). Brooklyn averages 113 points per game and Charlotte allows 112.8 per contest. The Nets rank eighth at 102.6 possessions per game and the Hornets are 25th at 98.7. Take the OVER 217.5 (-115).

The Nets had a premier rebounding performance in win against Hawks

The Brooklyn Nets are one of the best rebounding teams in the NBA

With Jarrett Allen and DeAndre Jordan being their top two rebounders, the Brooklyn Nets have been one of the NBA’s top rebounding teams this season.

The Nets’ quality rebounding showed Wednesday in their 130-118 win over the Atlanta Hawks.

According to the Nets public relations staff, Brooklyn tied a season-high in offensive rebounds (18) and beat the Hawks in the rebound battle by 18 boards; the Nets had 53, and Atlanta had 35. Per Nets PR, it was the Nets’ largest rebound margin this season.

The Nets rank sixth in the league for rebounds per game (47.1), according to NBA.com stats. They’re tied for ninth in offensive rebounds (10.7) with the New Orleans Pelicans.

Allen, the team’s anchor in the middle, is having a career season when it comes to working the boards. He leads the Nets in rebounds and is averaging a career-high (10.6). Allen is also averaging career-highs in points (12.0) and field goal percentage (67.1%).

Along with Allen, Jordan is also having a good year rebounding the ball. Throughout his career, Jordan has been one of the NBA’s top rebounders, ranking fifth among active players in total rebounds (9,055).

This season, Jordan is averaging 9.2 rebounds per game; it’s the first time he’s averaged fewer than 10 rebounds since the 2012-13 season.

Aside from their leading big men, the Nets have also gotten rebounding contributions from some of their guards and wings. Taurean Prince, Kyrie Irving and Caris LeVert are all grabbing at least 5.0 rebounds a game. Each player is averaging a career-high in rebounds, according to Basketball Reference.

With the Nets having rebounding come from multiple players, that helps them with pace and earning possession.

The Nets rank eighth in pace. They’ve won seven of their last 10, and in each of those wins they had a pace of at least 95.0, according to NBA.com. Their highest pace in this 10-game stretch was 109.50 in a win against the Chicago Bulls on Nov. 16.

The Nets will play on the road Friday against the Charlotte Hornets at 7 p.m. EST.

Kevin Durant’s tweet to Fat Joe after being called out for going to the Nets was perfect

Durant’s Twitter fingers are on fire.

Kevin Durant is just as good at Twitter as he is at basketball and it’s just so unfair for a person to be so talented.

Durant has taken a lot of flack from people who thought he should’ve gone to the New York Knicks instead of the Brooklyn Nets in free agency. That was the prevailing sentiment in the rumor mill last season and it turns out it was wrong.

He’s been asked about not joining the Knicks a ton already this season, to which his basic response has generally been that they aren’t cool enough anymore.

Knicks fans, of course, aren’t taking kindly to that and are coming at Durant. One of which, it seems, is rapper Fat Joe. In an interview with Sports Illustrated, Joe talked about Durant and Kyrie Irving’s decision to go to the Nets.

“They ain’t want that New York Knick pressure. They didn’t want that media attention…They didn’t want that so they said, alright, we want New York, but let’s do the lesser of the drama.”

To which Durant responded:

Man, that’s good tweeting. The best part about it is he’s not lying, either. Fat Joe’s is on a press run for his album and, somehow, Durant and Irving made their way into the conversation.

Durant has officially gotten too good at Twitter. It’s been a long time coming, too. Just think — three years ago we were roasting him for having 12,464 burner accounts. Now he’s roasting us all one tweet at a time. Be careful on these Internet streets. It’s dangerous out here.

Kevin Garnett thinks Kyrie Irving didn’t have the ‘cojones’ to play in Boston

Kevin Garnett didn’t think Kyrie Irving was built for Boston.

Kevin Garnett had a legendary NBA career which included winning a championship during his six years with the Boston Celtics.

KG loved his time playing for the Celtics, who are one of the most storied franchises in all of sports, and will always be remembered in Boston for the passion that he played with every time he took the floor.

The same can’t be said for Kyrie Irving, who lasted just two years in Boston before leaving town last summer to join the Brooklyn Nets. Irving’s time with the Celtics didn’t come to a great end, as he often seemed bothered with media attention and discussions about his future.

Garnett weighed in on Irving’s time with the Celtics during an appearance to promote a movie on Tuesday, and he didn’t hold back when asked if he was surprised that Irving left.

From the New York Daily News:

“No,” he said flatly, before implying that Irving, the Nets point guard, didn’t have the mental makeup for Beantown.

“Boston’s a tough town, dawg. You have to have some major cojones to be there,” Garnett said. “You got to want that. The people want it for you. That’s why Paul (Pierce) is perfect for it. Paul wants the shot every time. Like, ‘You’re 0-for-14.’ And he’s like, ‘I know, but they WANT it.’”

He also said that Irving and Kevin Durant should have gone to the Knicks:

“If they did the Nets, I thought they should have done the Knicks, if I’m being honest.” Garnett said. “I’m not a Knick fan by far. But if they come to the city and dominate, man. …The first superstar to hit New York and be vibing is going to be bigger than life. Remember I said that. Any piece of hope in this city is going to skyrocket. People are waiting.”

Knicks fans are definitely waiting to finally have a winner, that is for sure. But we’ll have to wait and see how things go in Brooklyn once a healthy Kyrie and KD play together.

As for Kyrie’s time in Boston? Yeah, that wasn’t great.

Report: Caris LeVert participating in shooting drills in thumb rehab

Nets guard Caris LeVert participated in shooting drills Tuesday as he recovers from thumb surgery.

Brooklyn Nets guard Caris LeVert is making progress as he recovers from his right thumb surgery.

According to Kristian Winfield of The New York Daily News, LeVert participated in shooting drills Tuesday. In the video, LeVert could be seen taking stand-still shots from the elbow and around the low block. From what’s shown in the video, LeVert’s release appears to be solid.

LeVert suffered a right thumb injury during the Nets’ loss on Nov. 10 against the Phoenix Suns. After the thumb surgery, ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reported that LeVert is slated to be out 4-6 weeks.

In nine games this season, LeVert has averaged a career-high 16.8 points per game on 42.1% shooting from the field. He is averaging a career-high 5.0 rebounds a game.

Last season LeVert played in 40 games, as he suffered a right foot injury in November 2018.

Over the course of his career, LeVert has played at least 70 games one time. That was during the 2017-18 season, when he averaged 12.1 points per game and a career-high 4.2 assists in 71 games.

With this video of LeVert shooting, Nets fans should be optimistic about his timeline to return to the lineup.

Nets best Boston 112-107 behind Dinwiddie’s 32 points

The Boston Celtics fell to the Brooklyn Nets 112-107 behind a huge game by reserve guard Spencer Dinwiddie, whose 32-point, 11-assist game repaid Brooklyn’s loss at the Garden on Wednesday.

The Brooklyn Nets held off the Boston Celtics despite a late fourth-quarter surge and All-NBA guard Kyrie Irving’s continued absence, winning 112-107 in an early-day game at Barclays Center.

After falling to the Boston Celtics 121-110 at TD Garden on the evening before Thanksgiving due in large part to All-Star point guard Kemba Walker’s 39-point explosion, the Nets returned the favor with an equally-impressive outing by reserve guard Spencer Dinwiddie.

The Colorado product scored 32 points and 11 assists on 10-of-19 shooting (including 6-of-8 from beyond the arc) in his eighth game stepping up to cover for the injured Irving.

The Duke product, in his first season with Brooklyn after decamping from Boston, had been in Barclays earlier in the day to have his ailing shoulder evaluated, and made a point of sticking around long enough to greet several former teammates with a hug.

Irving saw his new team receive a villain’s welcome from afar Wednesday as fans intensely booed the Australian floor general by proxy at the Garden.

This prompted a response by the polarizing player on Instagram later that night, as much in response to the NBA media’s response to his exit from Boston as the vociferous crowd response.

Friday’s rematch broke Brooklyn’s way however, with continued strong shooting from deep — 17-of-41 for 41.5 % overall — against Boston and balanced play from the other starters and bench.

The Celtics trailed for nearly the entire contest, falling behind by double-digits at several points despite strong showing from Jayson Tatum (26 points, 9 boards) and Kemba Walker (17 points and 6 assists).

Fourth-year wing Jaylen Brown struggled throughout the match, logging one of his worst outings of the season with only 8 points and 6 rebounds while Daniel Theis was much less effective than in the two teams’ last tilt, scoring only 2 points and 3 boards.

The Celtics nearly found a way to get back into the contest in the final frame’s closing minutes, cutting the lead to just 4, but ultimately failed in their comeback bid, their slow start and uneven play forcing the loss.

Boston next face the New York Knicks at Madison Square Garden on Sunday, Dec. 1 at 2:30 p.m. while falling to 13-5 on the season.
