Denver Broncos 2024 Schedule

Broncos football is back! Here’s a look at the team’s 2024 schedule.

Welcome back, Denver Broncos football!

The Broncos will continue their 2024 schedule with a home game against the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 2.

Denver will play eight home games at Empower Field at Mile High Stadium this year and nine games on the road. Because the league has an unbalanced 17-game schedule, the NFC and AFC rotate between having an extra home game. This year, the NFC gets a ninth home game.

The Broncos’ schedule is highlighted by a road contest against the New Orleans Saints, coach Sean Payton’s former team, on Thursday Night Football in Week 7. View the Broncos’ complete schedule below.

Broncos could stay on East Coast between Weeks 3-4 this fall

The Broncos will travel to Tampa Bay in Week 3 and New York in Week 4. Could they stay on the East Coast between those games?

The Denver Broncos are set to travel 19,670 miles this fall as they play eight games at home and nine games on the road in the 2024 NFL season.

Earlier this year, Broncos coach Sean Payton hinted that the team might stay on the East Coast after facing the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 3 leading up to a Week 4 showdown with the New York Jets.

Denver has not yet announced its travel plans for Weeks 3-4, but Payton has been speaking with coaches who have faced similar schedules.

“We play a number of East Coast games this year,” Payton said this spring after the team’s schedule was released. “[I’ve] talked to a few coaches relative to who’s had success going east for the early game. In the last eight years, really Seattle has been one of those teams. I had a chance to visit with Pete [Carroll], had a chance to visit with [Kyle] Shanahan and Sean [McVay]. Who are the notable teams that have done well? It’s kind of funny, they’re good teams. So you’re always looking for like, ‘What’s that edge?’”

NFL teams will do everything they can to gain an edge, but at the end of the day, the better team often wins regardless of factors like travel and weather.

“I can recall there were a lot of demons [the Saints] had to overcome in New Orleans because we had never won on the road in cold weather when it was below 40 degrees,” Payton said. “There were a lot of these ‘nevers.’ Once the teams got good enough, then you began to exercise and get rid of some of those things.”

After going 8-9 in his first season with the Broncos and adjusting to a new time zone in 2023, Payton will hope his club is good enough to overcome any travel scenario in Year 2.

Broncos expected to announce training camp schedule next week

The Broncos are set to announce their training camp schedule next week, according to the Denver Post. Fans will need free tickets to attend.

The announcement of an upcoming announcement has arrived. Welcome to the peak of the NFL offseason.

The Denver Broncos will announce their 2024 training camp schedule next week, according to a report from the Denver Post‘s Parker Gabriel. The team announced last year’s schedule on Tuesday, June 27. If they follow the same timeline this year, fans can expect an announcement on Tuesday, June 25.

We already know that Broncos veterans are set to report on July 23, which presumably means practices will begin on July 26. That’s just a guess based on previous years though; we’ll find out for sure next week.

Last year, Denver had 12 practices open to the public. The team expects to have more than a dozen open practices this summer, according to Gabriel. Because the team’s facility has a 3,000 capacity limit, fans will need to download (free) tickets on a first-come, first-served basis.

The Broncos will announce ticket details when the schedule is released next week. In the meantime, here’s a look at the preseason and regular season schedules. Denver’s preseason slate will begin on Aug. 11.

Broncos will face Colts in both preseason and regular season

The Broncos will face the Colts both in the preseason and the regular season this year. “I don’t think that’s an issue,” Sean Payton said.

The Denver Broncos’ 2024 schedule includes a somewhat uncommon scenario — they will play the Indianapolis Colts both in preseason and in the regular season.

After going on the road to face Indy in their preseason opener on Aug. 11, the Broncos will later host the Colts in the regular season on Dec. 15.

Denver coach Sean Payton is not concerned about having a repeat opponent because the team uses preseason for player evaluations and the offense is usually pretty vanilla.

“I think this: it’s never bothered us because when you look at Indy Week 1, what’s the purpose of preseason Week 1? I would say it’s to evaluate your roster, it’s to find the right players. It’s not scheme-driven,” Payton explained.

“It would be different if it was Indy and then we opened in Indy a week or two [later]. So this has been the fifth or sixth time it’s happened. [The Saints] had joint practices with teams that we’ve played in the regular season. So I don’t think that’s an issue.”

Speaking of joint practices, the Broncos will host the Green Bay Packers for a joint practice in August before their preseason showdown. That’s further confirmation that the preseason games are used to evaluate players, not to game plan for a specific opponent or fine-tune a scheme.

Denver facing the Colts twice in a fourth-month span is no big deal.

POLL: How many games will the Broncos win in 2024?

The Broncos won eight games in 2023. Can they top that number in Sean Payton’s second season? Vote in our poll!

Oddsmakers don’t have much faith in the Denver Broncos going into the 2024 NFL season.

After going 8-9 and missing the playoffs last season, the Broncos now have an over/under win total line of 5.5 wins ahead of the 2024 campaign. Winning two fewer games than last year would be enough to hit the over on this year’s over/under line.

Most fans in Denver probably aren’t delusional enough to expect a Super Bowl run this fall, but many fans likely hope for improvement from last year. It would be a disappointment if the Broncos did not even match their record from coach Sean Payton’s first season.

A one-win improvement in 2024 would put Denver at 9-8, still not a great record, but a step in the right direction. Can they do it?

The quarterback competition is just getting started, but many fans and pundits expect rookie Bo Nix to win the job this summer. Will the Broncos be able to top eight wins if they have a rookie QB under center?

Sean Payton reacts to Broncos’ 2024 schedule

“Ultimately, it is what it is,” Broncos coach Sean Payton said of the team’s 2024 schedule. “We go play them.”

Just over one week after the NFL announced the Denver Broncos’ 2024 schedule, coach Sean Payton was made available to media members following a practice session last Thursday.

Payton was asked for his thoughts on the team’s schedule which features three road games in the first four weeks and a late-season bye week.

“Over the years, schedule-driven… No. 1, we can’t control it,” Payton said. “So the first thing I look for is weather. There are two weather possibilities at Tampa and then Cincinnati. I look at travel. There’s a good chance after we play Tampa [that] we might practice somewhere else on the East Coast. We asked for that, when you have four Eastern Time Zone games. So after Tampa, we’re sorting through where we might go before we then play the Jets. Those are the first things that came to mind.

“The second thing, obviously, the first quarter pole, three of the first four on the road. The second quarter pole, three of the four are at home. Ultimately, it is what it is. We go play them.”

The Broncos only have two prime-time games scheduled this year — Payton’s return to New Orleans to face the Saints on “Thursday Night Football” in Week 7 and a “Monday Night Football” showdown with the Browns at home in Week 13. Denver is also a candidate to be flexed into additional prime-time windows, including TBD dates for the final two weeks of the season.

The team’s bye is in Week 14. View the full schedule on Broncos Wire.
