Broncos star CB Pat Surtain (concussion) has been ruled out for Thursday’s game against the Saints.

The Denver Broncos have released their final injury report ahead of their Thursday Night Football clash with the New Orleans Saints in Week 7.

Broncos right tackle Alex Palczewski (ankle) and cornerback Pat Surtain (concussion) have both been ruled out. Right tackle Mike McGlinchey (MCL) is eligible to return from IR this week, so he might return in time to take his old spot from Palczewski.

Ja’Quan McMillian is expected to play across from Riley Moss at cornerback with Levi Wallace playing in the slot.

McGlinchey, outside linebacker Baron Browning (foot) and cornerback Damarri Mathis (ankle) are listed as questionable. They would need to be activated from IR in order to play on Thursday.

3 ex-Broncos players found new NFL homes on Tuesday

Ex-Broncos players Brandon McManus (Packers), Marquez Callaway (Bucs) and Ronnie Perkins (Cardinals) found new NFL homes on Tuesday.

A trio of former Denver Broncos players found new NFL homes on Tuesday.

Perhaps most notably, the Green Bay Packers signed kicker Brandon McManus. He served as Denver’s kicker from 2014-2022, helping the team win Super Bowl 50 following the 2015 season.

Meanwhile, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers signed wide receiver Marquez Callaway. He had a cup of coffee with the Broncos last summer, competing in training camp and preseason before being cut when Denver set its 53-man roster.

Finally, the Arizona Cardinals signed pass rusher Ronnie Perkins to their practice squad. Perkins spent part of the last two years with the Broncos before being released from injured reserve with an injury settlement last month.

Elsewhere on the ex-Denver player front, the Falcons promoted defensive lineman Matt Hennessy to their 53-man roster.

On the injury front, the Cardinals placed kicker Matt Prater (knee) on injured reserve and the Lions placed defensive lineman Kyle Peko (pec) on IR.

As for the Broncos, they cut two players on Tuesday, perhaps to make room for other players set to return from IR this week.

Broncos release Tuesday injury report ahead of ‘TNF’

Broncos CB Pat Surtain (concussion) did not practice on Tuesday and he seems unlikely to play on Thursday.

The Denver Broncos practiced on Tuesday for the first time this week ahead of their Thursday Night Football clash with the New Orleans Saints in Week 7.

Broncos right tackle Alex Palczewski (ankle) practiced on a limited basis, giving him an uncertain status for Thursday. Denver cornerback Pat Surtain (concussion) seems unlikely to play on Thursday after being the only player to not participate in Tuesday’s practice.

Broncos cut 2 players from active roster on Tuesday

The Broncos cut LB Kristian Welch and DB Tanner McCalister from the active roster on Tuesday.

The Denver Broncos cut two players from their active roster on Tuesday, according to a report from KUSA-TV’s Mike Klis.

The Broncos released inside linebacker Kristian Welch and waived safety Tanner McCalister from the 53-man roster. Both players could be potential candidates to return on the practice squad.

Welch signed with Denver on Aug. 29. He played in the first six games of the season, earning one start. He played 97 snaps on special teams and 36 snaps on defense over the last six weeks.

McCalister joined the Broncos in January and he dressed for three games this season, playing exclusively on special teams (54 snaps).

Denver opening up two spots on the active roster might mean that two players are on the verge of returning from injured reserve. Broncos right tackle Mike McGlinchey (MCL), outside linebacker Baron Browning (foot) and cornerback Damarri Mathis (ankle) are all eligible to return from IR this week.

Denver will face the New Orleans Saints on Thursday Night Football on Oct. 17.

Chargers teammates reminded of greatness of Justin Herbert in Week 6 win

Chargers star Justin Herbert had his best performance of the 2024 season in the team’s clutch Week 6 win over the Broncos.

The Chargers picked up a massive victory on Sunday to kickstart the post-bye part of their schedule. The victory over the Broncos improved their record to 3-2.

The win also came on the road in Denver, which could have huge playoff implications later this season. From the start, the Chargers took control of this game.

One glaring takeaway from the game: Justin Herbert is still good at football. It’s something that the players and coaches took note of on Sunday.

“I thought he was about as precise as he could be, or a quarterback could be,” Jim Harbaugh said after the win. “There were some great throws, some great avoid of pressure and just putting the ball in the appropriate spot throughout the entire game, [I] was super impressed. Hopefully this reminds everybody that Justin Herbert is really good at playing quarterback.”

Herbert threw for 237 yards and a touchdown in Week 6, his highest total of the season thus far. In fact, he had thrown for more than 180 yards in a game yet this season until Week 6.

He did so with his top two wideouts, Quentin Johnston and Ladd McConkey, banged up as well. His teammates were thoroughly impressed by Herbert’s play as well, most notably offensive tackle Rashawn Slater.

“I love it when he throws the ball. We love protecting for him. I’m happy for him to get the opportunity,” Slater said.

Herbert’s stats in 2024 won’t exactly tell you how good of a quarterback he still is. He’s played through multiple injuries and doesn’t have as talented of a receiving core anymore, either.

The 2021 Pro Bowler looked much healthier in Week 6, and he did acknowledge how much the bye helped in the healing process of his ankle.

Hopefully, it’s a sign of things to come for the rest of the season, and Chargers offensive coordinator Greg Roman should only continue to open up the playbook now.

Broncos release wide receiver from practice squad, re-sign defensive back

The Broncos released WR Kaden Davis from the practice squad on Monday and re-signed CB Quinton Newsome.

The Denver Broncos released wide receiver Kaden Davis from their practice squad on Monday, the team announced.

Davis (6-1, 190 pounds) signed with the team’s practice squad on Sept. 11 and was released on Oct. 1. He was then re-signed on Oct. 8, only to be released yet again on Oct. 14.

The 26-year-old receiver originally entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent out of Northwest Missouri State with the Broncos in 2022. He later spent time with the USFL’s Michigan Panthers, the Arizona Cardinals and the Detroit Lions before returning to Denver.

After parting ways with Davis, the Broncos still have three wide receivers on their practice squad: David Sills, Michael Bandy and A.T. Perry, who just signed with the team last week.

To fill the spot formerly held by Davis on the practice squad, Denver re-signed rookie defensive back Quinton Newsome, who was cut last week when the team made a flurry of roster moves.

Broncos release estimated Monday injury report ahead of ‘TNF’

The Broncos did not practice on Monday, but they released an estimated injury report because they play on Thursday this week.

The Denver Broncos did not practice on Monday, but NFL rules require the team to release injury reports in the three days leading up to each game, so the Broncos released an estimated injury report today ahead of a Thursday Night Football clash with the New Orleans Saints.

Of note, right tackle Alex Palczewski (ankle) is listed as a projected limited participant, which is a positive sign after he missed Sunday’s game. Mike McGlinchey (MCL) is eligible to return from injured reserve this week, and we’ll know more about his status perhaps as early as tomorrow.

Denver cornerback Damarri Mathis (ankle) is also eligible to return from IR, which is good timing because Pat Surtain (concussion) seems unlikely to be cleared in time for Thursday’s game.

Chargers highlight: Teair Tart recovers fumble for second turnover of game

The Chargers are starting to reach a fever pitch on defense.

The Chargers are starting to reach a fever pitch on defense.

After intercepting rookie quarterback Bo Nix in the first quarter and jumping out to a 13-0 lead, it already looked like Los Angeles was in control of Sunday’s game. A twenty-play drive for the Chargers offense gave the defense plenty of rest midway through the second quarter, but LA allowed Denver to get the ball near midfield on their fourth drive of the game.

On a first down handoff, running back Javonte Williams plunged ahead up the middle. Khalil Mack and Teair Tart beat their blocks and teamed up for the tackle at the line of scrimmage, but Mack went above and beyond by ripping the ball out of Williams’ hands. The ball ricocheted into the arms of Tart on the ground, and he made the recovery on the Chargers 44-yard line.

The fumble recovery gave Los Angeles the ball back with 4:32 left in the first half, and the team already had a 13-point lead.

Chargers highlight: Kimani Vidal’s first NFL touch is a touchdown

Kimani Vidal’s first NFL touch goes for 6.

A vocal contingent of fans has been clamoring for rookie Kimani Vidal to see the field. A healthy inactive for the majority of the season behind JK Dobbins, Gus Edwards, and Hassan Haskins, Vidal has been waiting for his opportunity since Los Angeles drafted him in the sixth round this April.

With Edwards on injured reserve with an ankle injury, that opportunity arrived this week, and Vidal instantly took advantage.

After two long runs by Dobbins, the Chargers lined up for a first and 10 on the Broncos 38 yard line. Justin Herbert dropped back and waited as Vidal beat his defender on a wheel route. Herbert put the throw on the rookie, who had to extend for the ball, accelerating down the sideline and beating two Broncos defenders to the end zone.

The play gave LA a 10-0 lead in the first quarter and gave fans a glimpse of what could be to come for the sixth rounder out of Troy.

Broncos inactives: 7 players won’t play vs. Chargers

Broncos inactives today: Zach Wilson*, Blake Watson, Kris Abrams-Draine, JL Skinner, Keidron Smith, Alex Palczewski and Greg Dulcich.

The Denver Broncos have announced their list of seven inactive players for Sunday’s game against the Los Angeles Chargers.

Broncos quarterback Zach Wilson*, running back Blake Watson, cornerback Kris Abrams-Draine, safety JL Skinner, defensive back Keidron Smith, offensive tackle Alex Palczewski (ankle) and tight end Greg Dulcich are inactive today.

*Technically, Wilson is still available to play as the team’s emergency third-string quarterback behind starter Bo Nix and primary backup Jarrett Stidham, but he’s on the inactive list and does not count against the game-day roster. Wilson can play if both Nix and Stidham are injured.

With the exception of Wilson, these inactive players are members of the 53-man roster who are not eligible to play against the Chargers. They will be reactivated on Monday.

Of note for Los Angeles, star pass rusher Joey Bosa (hip) is inactive today.

Defensive lineman Eyioma Uwazurike is active for the first time this season. Wide receiver Devaughn Vele is also active following the Josh Reynolds injury and running back Audric Estime returns after being activated from injured reserve on Saturday.

  1. QB Zach Wilson*
  2. RB Blake Watson
  3. CB Kris Abrams-Draine
  4. DB JL Skinner
  5. DB Keidron Smith
  6. OT Alex Palczewski (ankle)
