Best golf balls you can buy in 2024

Check out Golfweek’s list of the best golf balls available to purchase in 2024.

A decade ago, the sight of a non-white golf ball would raise a few eyebrows, but those days are long gone. TaylorMade, one of the largest golf ball makers in the world, predicts its non-white ball sales in 2024 – comprised of balls with stripes, special markings or customized logos – will eclipse traditional white ball sales for the first time.

Golf balls with corporate logos have been popular for decades, but tour pros like Rickie Fowler and Tommy Fleetwood compete in PGA Tour events, major championships and Ryder Cups using TaylorMade’s TP5 and TP5x Pix balls that have markings designed to aid in alignment and to reveal how purely you’ve hit your putt. Callaway’s Truvis balls, which are covered in pentagons, have been popular for several years and Srixon’s Divide balls are eye-catching in every weather condition and also help golfers perform better on the greens.

At the same time, manufacturers like Titleist, maker of the Pro V1, and Callaway, maker of the new Chrome Tour, have never made balls to a higher precisely, which means that from ball to ball, consistency is better than ever before.

With such a wide variety of balls on the market, ranging in price from about $22 to around $55 per dozen, finding a ball that matches your game and your budget can be tricky, but Golfweek’s 2024 Golf Ball Guide is here to help. Prioritize what you want from your golf ball (distance, short game spin, soft feel), and then think about a price range you are willing to pay. Keep in mind that if you go down in price, you will likely have to compromise something because the materials that make premium balls perform so well don’t come cheap.

Buy a three-ball sleeve of several different balls, go to the course and see how they perform on chip shots, pitch shots and short approach shots first, then see how they work for you with long irons and woods. The unique way you swing will make each ball play differently, but testing balls on the course will always be the best way to find your perfect golf ball.

Note: Golf balls are often released on two-year product cycles, which means updates are released every two years. For that reason, you will see several 2023 offerings alongside new 2024 putters.

Best golf balls in 2024

Bridgestone Tour B Mindset balls aim to improve your preparation and quiet your inner voice on the course

The system can help develop a routine to turn your brain off when overthinking can get in the way.

It’s incredible how many things you can think about in the time it takes between starting your downswing and making contact with the ball. In reality, it’s only a fraction of a second, but you can notice the stretching of a golf cart’s tires two holes away, see subtle movement of a shadow near your ball and suddenly remember a tip you overhead in the clubhouse about swinging up on drives to get more distance. Before you finish your follow-through and spot the ball, you know it’s gone, sliced into the woods like three other brain-dead shots you’ve hit off the tee that day.

With the release of the Mindset pattern on its new Tour B family of golf balls for 2024, Bridgestone is trying to help golfers — both recreational players and elite competitors — adopt a system that can help them develop a routine to turn their brain off when overthinking can get in the way of hitting good shots.

Developed with the help of Jason Day and his mental-game coach, Jason Goldsmith, the Mindset pattern is comprised of three circles and a series of three small arrows, with each part of the pattern representing a step in the pre-shot process.

The large red circle represents the time before the shot when you consider things like the hole location, hazards, the wind direction and where you want to hit your next shots. Inside that circle is a smaller yellow circle, which represents the time when you want to envision what that shot will look like. If you have ever seen Jason Day on television closing his eyes for a few seconds before hitting, this is what he’s doing, imagining what hitting his desired shot will feel like and how it will look.

After going through those steps, golfers should focus on the green dot in the pattern, the smallest circle, and stop thinking. The idea is you want to consider all of the analytical things that will go into an intelligent shot, allow your body and mind to think about what hitting that shot will be like, and then mentally get out of the way and let it happen.

“What Mindset is actually doing is trying to get the amateur prepared to hit the best possible shot they can hit,” Day said. “You’re setting up these steps for an amateur golfer to be able to perform from tee to green so much better.”

The arrows in the Mindset logo allow players to line up the ball on the greens before putts and use the logo as an alignment aid while also lining up the ball when they tee off.

Aside from the mindset side stamp, the Mindset golf balls are identical to the other just-released Bridgestone Tour B X, Tour B XS, Tour B RX and Tour B RXS balls, and if all of this feels a little too Kumbaya-inner-peace-zen for your taste, consider this: In testing with accomplished golfers, Bridgestone reports that golfers who were told about the Mindset process and used Mindset balls in a study averaged over 4 mph more ball speed and 12 yards more carry distance than when they used all-white golf balls. On the greens, golfers made five percent more putts using a Mindset ball than a black, all-white ball from 10 feet. The improved performance is attributed to golfers trusting the preparation process and then being more relaxed and free when they swing.

Bridgestone Tour B Mindset golf balls should be in stores starting February 16 for $49.99 per dozen.

Bridgestone Tour B X, Tour B XS, Tour B RX and Tour B RXS golf balls

The 2024 Bridgestone Tou B balls provide distance off tee, spin around the green and come in four versions.

Gear: Bridgestone Tour B X, Tour B XS, Tour B RX and Tour B RXS golf balls
Price: $49.99 per dozen
Specs: Three-piece, urethane-covered golf balls in white and yellow
Available: February 16 (White and Tour B X TW), March 15 (Yellow X and RX

Who It’s For: Golfers who want more distance off the tee and tour-level greenside spin.

The Skinny: Bridgestone has modified the casing layer of the Tour B balls to help them generate more speed while complementing the unique urethane cover that provides more spin around the greens.

The Deep Dive: For golfers who may not be aware, Bridgestone has been making solid-core, urethane-covered golf balls as long as any brand in the industry, and the Nike golf ball that Tiger Woods used to win four consecutive majors (the Tiger Slam) was manufactured by Bridgestone. Nick Price won the British Open and PGA Championships using a Bridgestone ball, Nick Faldo won at Augusta National with a Bridgestone, and, more recently, Tiger won the 2019 Masters, and Bryson DeChambeau won at Winged Foot in 2020 using a Bridgestone ball.

Since 2020, the Japanese brand has focused on contact science, studying how different combinations of materials can enhance speed and distance off the tee while also providing more greenside spin and control for different types of players. The addition of impact modifiers to create the Reactiv cover of the 2020 Tour B X, Tour B XS, Tour B RX and Tour B RXS four years ago was the first fruit of that labor, followed by the ReactivIQ covers that were uniquely created for each ball in the 2022 Toru B lineup. Now, for 2024, Bridgestone is claiming it has taken another step toward creating the Holy Grail of golf balls by developing the new ReactivX system.

The ReactivX system is comprised of two parts: an Xclrnt mid-layer (pronounced accelerant) and a ReactivIQ urethane cover.

Instead of using multiple cores inside each of the four Tour B balls, Bridgestone has designed a gradational core that is very soft in the center and gradually gets firmer toward the perimeter. A firm mid-layer (mantle) is then applied over the core, but in the 2024 Tour B balls, that casing layer does a better job of transferring energy into ball speed.

The new Xclrnt mid-layer is also more dense, so golfers like Tiger and Jason Day, who started testing and using the ball in 2023, reported it has a lower, deeper sound at impact.

A ReactivIQ urethane cover encases the Xclrnt mid-layer, with the exact cover-material blend for each ball being slightly different. By using different combinations of impact modifiers, Bridgestone designers can make the urethane behave differently under different conditions. The cover behaves and feels firmer when hit with your longer, faster-swinging clubs like your driver and long irons but feels softer when you hit it with wedges.

Here is a breakdown of the four Tour B balls for 2024 and who each has been made for:

Bridgestone Tour B golf balls (2022)

Play the same golf ball as Tiger Woods and Bryson DeChambeau.

Gear: Bridgestone Tour B golf balls (2022): Tour B X, Tour B XS, Tour B RX and Tour B RXS
Price: $49.99 per dozen
Specs: Three-piece, urethane-covered golf balls
Available: February 18

In 2020, Bridgestone released the first Tour B golf balls that included an impact modifier inside the urethane cover. That adjustment to the cover material’s blend, Bridgestone said, helped the balls achieve more distance off the tee while also enhancing spin around the green.

Two years later, Bridgestone believes it has made significant improvements to the study of “impact science.” With the release of four new iterations of its Tour B golf balls, the Japanese company believes golfers should expect more length with drivers, fairway woods, and long irons with even better performance around the greens.

For readers who do not have a degree in chemical engineering, an impact modifier is an additive that can be blended into a material to make it more flexible and increase impact strength. They can help brittle things bend more and other substances absorb energy.

When Tiger Woods and Bryson DeChambeau first tested the prototype Tour B balls with an impact modifier, they immediately wanted to put them into play. They pressured Bridgestone to quickly release the balls with the Reactiv cover, the 2020 Tour B X and Tour B XS. Bridgestone cheerfully complied, then added the same Reactiv cover with the impact modifier to the 2020 Tour B RX and Tour B RXS, both of which were designed for golfers who do not have PGA Tour-level swing speed.

Since the 2020 balls were released, Bridgestone’s polymer scientists have studied and tested various impact modifiers, trying to find different mixtures that could be added to each ball to make it perform better for specific types of players.

The result is ReactivIQ covers. Designed differently for each ball, the urethane blends help the ball come off the face faster on long shots for more distance but stay on the face of short irons and wedges longer for increased spin and feel around the greens. So while these three-piece balls’ cores and mantle layers have not appreciably changed, Bridgestone said golfers will get better overall performance with them.

Bridgestone e6 golf balls (2021)

The updated Bridgestone e6 golf ball has a new core designed to help moderate and slow-swinging golfers get more distance.

Gear: Bridgestone e6 golf balls (2021)
Price: $21.99 per dozen
Specs: Two-piece, Surlyn-covered ball. White and optic yellow
Available: Feb. 26

Fifteen years ago, Bridgestone released the first version of the e6 golf ball, and from the beginning, it was designed with recreational golfers in mind. Today, pros like 2020 U.S. Open winner Bryson DeChambeau and 15-time major winner Tiger Woods use Bridgestone Tour B Series balls because they have fast driver swing speeds, but with the release of the new e6, Bridgestone is continuing the tradition of making the e6 ideally suited for moderate- and slower-swinging golfers who want more distance.

The new e6 features a two-piece construction with a Surlyn cover over an extremely large rubber core. In this version, Bridgestone has utilized a new core formulation to make the ball feel even softer at impact and provide more speed off the tee.

The e6 does not produce much spin off the tee. That should not only help moderate-swinging players get more distance, but it should also help to reduce sidespin that results in hooks and slices, so the ball flies straighter.

Bridgestone was able to make that core larger because it could also make the Surlyn cover thinner. While it is durable, it will not make the ball dance like a top on the greens like Tiger Woods’ Tour B XS, but that’s not the type of golf mid- and high-handicap golfers tend to play. The e6 provides plenty of greenside spin and control for players who anticipate chips and pitch shots to release and roll to the hole.

Tiger Woods, Bryson DeChambeau extend deals with Bridgestone Golf

On the eve of the 2020 Masters, Tiger Woods and Bryson DeChambeau have signed new golf ball endorsement deals with Bridgestone.

[jwplayer gnM6mumm-vgFm21H3]

Basketball and baseball writers often refer to players as assets that can be swapped and traded to help a team improve its chances for success. Bridgestone Golf certainly sees Tiger Woods and Bryson DeChambeau as significant assets, but by announcing that the 15-time major winner and the newly-crowned U.S. Open winner have signed long-term contract extensions, it’s clear they are not going to be on the golf ball market any time soon.

“Tiger’s involvement in the R&D process was critical to the development of our breakthrough REACTIV cover technology, and Bryson is just as enthusiastic about participating in R&D as any one of our engineers,” said Dan Murphy, the president and CEO of Bridgestone.

The financial details and precise duration of the new endorsement deals were not disclosed.

Woods and DeChambeau have appeared in several commercials together for Bridgestone, playing off DeChambeau’s scientific approach to golf and Tiger’s ability to be, well … funny on camera.

Tiger Woods won the 2018 Tour Championship, 2019 Masters and the 2019 Zozo Championship, his 82nd PGA Tour win, using a Bridgestone Tour B XS ball. While Woods officially became a Bridgestone staff player in 2016, the Covington, Ga.-based company manufactured the ball Tiger used to win the Memorial Tournament, U.S. Open, British Open and PGA Championships in 2000 even though it was sold under a different brand’s name.

Bryson DeChambeau was victorious in September at Winged Foot using a Bridgestone Tour B X.
