Check out the best plays from Brian Scalabrine’s playing days

While star players usually get the loudest praise in the NBA, the role players sometimes make the biggest impact on fans. That much may be true of Brian Scalabrine, who spent five years with the Boston Celtics, winning a ring with the team during the “Big 3” era in 2008.

Scalabrine joined the Celtics in 2005 after beginning his career with the New Jersey Nets, inking a five-year, $15 million contract. The first few seasons in Boston weren’t always easy, but soon enough, Scalabrine found himself a beloved member of a Celtics team destined to raise a championship banner. In 2010, Scalabrine joined the Chicago Bulls. He played his final NBA game in 2012 after eleven seasons in the Association.

You can check out the ten best highlights of Brian Scalabrine’s career below, courtesy of the NBA’s YouTube page.

On this day: Brian Scalabrine makes NBA debut; 2nd lowest point total

On this day in 2001, future Celtic champion Brian Scalabrine made his NBA debut, and Boston played a game it would like to forget.

On this day in Boston Celtics history, champion Boston big man (and now NBC Boston Sports broadcaster) Brian Scalabrine made his NBA debut back in 2001 — though not with the Celtics.

Scalabrine would play his collegiate basketball with the University of Southern California Trojans before being picked up with the 34th overall pick by the (then) New Jersey (now, Brooklyn) Nets in the 2001 NBA draft, chalking up a pair of trips to the NBA Finals in his first two seasons in the league as a player. White Mamba — as he is sometimes called — would play four seasons with the Nets before leaving the team that drafted him.

He would leave to sign with the Celtics as an unrestricted free agent ahead of the 2005-06 NBA season.

Does a Jrue Holiday pursuit make sense for the Boston Celtics?

Brian Scalabrine discusses.

The biggest news in the NBA world right now is the unexpected trade of Damian Lillard, who was widely believed to be headed to the Miami Heat, to the Milwaukee Bucks.

This trade has since sparked discussions about how it affects the Boston Celtics and the rest of their peers in the East and their chances in the Eastern Conference, specifically whether Boston ought to trade for former Milwaukee guard Jrue Holiday, now a Portland Trail Blazers.

Celtics analyst and former player Brian Scalabrine discusses the implications of this trade and whether the Celtics should pursue Holiday as a defensive addition to their roster with Trenni Casey on NBC Sports Boston’s Arbella Early Edition.

Take a look at the clip embedded above to hear their thoughts in full.

Every player in Boston Celtics history who wore No. 44

Today’s installment focuses on the dozen players who wore No. 44 over the years as of Aug. 2023.

The Boston Celtics have more retired jerseys than any other team in the NBA, but that doesn’t mean the rest of their jerseys have little history of interest tied to them.

In fact, with 17 titles to their name and decades of competitive basketball played in them, their unretired jersey numbers pack in some of the most history not hanging from the rafters of any team in the league. To that end, we have launched our accounting of that history, with every player in every jersey worn by more than one Celtics player in the storied franchise’s history accounted for.

Today’s installment focuses on the dozen players who wore No. 44 over the years as of Aug. 2023.

In a recent youth camp, former Boston Celtics champion big man and current Celtics broadcaster Brian Scalabrine paid a surprise visit to the Scituate Hoop School per Wicked Local. Scalabrine’s visit was organized as a special treat for the roughly 90 attendees, who were thrilled to meet a former NBA player in person.

During his visit, White Mamba (as Scal was affectionately known during his playing days) actively engaged with the campers in basketball drills and friendly competitions. The former NBA forward showed off his expertise, offering hands-on guidance to help players improve their game. Campers looked excited and motivated to get tips from the former Boston player, who had more left in the tank than perhaps some might think at 45 years old.

Brian Scalabrine is a fan of the Kristaps Porzingis trade for Boston

Ultimately, for Scal, the Celtics needed more size, shooting, and balance on the roster, and Porzingis helps address those needs.

Before the dust had settled on the trade that sent veteran Boston Celtics floor general Marcus Smart to the Memphis Grizzlies for Washington Wizards center Kristaps Porzingis, Boston broadcaster and 2008 Celtics champ Brian Scalabrine was a fan of the move.

Speaking on an episode of Sirius XM’s “The Starting Lineup” show, Scal broke down how the trade provides better balance to the Celtics’ roster, addressing the redundancy of guard-heavy players, and how Porzingis offers size, shooting, and spacing that complements the Celtics’ style of play. Still, the NBC Sports analyst admits Marcus Smart’s departure will be felt; he brought a defensive mindset, leadership and intensity to the team.

Ultimately for Scalabrine, the Celtics needed more size, shooting and balance on the roster, and Porzingis helps address those needs.

To hear the finer details about why Scalabrine is into the trade for Boston, take a look at the clip embedded above.

Six Boston Celtics alumni changing places in redraft of 2001 NBA draft class

Let’s take a look at which Celtics alumni landed where.

As Hoops Hype’s staff keep themselves busy reassessing the draft orders of the last few decades over the years, there are always a fair number of Boston Celtics alumni making moves in their re-drafts as a result.

In the H/H’s reassessment of the 2001 NBA draft class, a total of six Boston alumni ended up seeing their draft stock shift with the benefit of hindsight lifting their fortunes. And while they won’t see any pay raises or anything else of that sort given the fictitious nature of such an exercise, it’s also nice to see this group get their flowers, too.

Let’s take a look at which Celtics alumni landed where.

Should the Boston Celtics keep Jaylen Brown? Brian Scalabrine discusses

What the Celtics should do about all of this is one of the more important questions facign the team in years if not longer.

The biggest question for the Boston Celtics heading into the offseason is whether they should offer star forward Jaylen Brown a supermax extension. Brown’s responses to questions about his future this past season have been vague, perhaps indicating uncertainty.

There are concerns about how well Brown and fellow star wing Jayson Tatum complement each other because they have similar playing styles and weaknesses. However, their defensive and offensive versatility as wing players is extremely valuable in today’s NBA. The Celtics have had success with them, but their ball handling and decision-making can be inconsistent.

What the Celtics should do about all of this is one of the more important questions the team has faced in years, and former Celtics forward and current Boston broadcaster Brian Scalabrine weighed in on the matter on an episode of the “Dan Patrick” show.

Check out the clip embedded above to hear what Scal has to say about Jaylen Brown’s future as a Celtic.
