WATCH: Big brawl ignites after former Wisconsin QB takes a late hit

A former Wisconsin QB had quite the night in Gainesville…

Former Wisconsin quarterback Graham Mertz had quite the night against No. 11 Tennessee. His Florida Gators won 29-16, while his final stat line read 19/24 passing, 166 yards and one touchdown.

Florida did not complete a single pass longer than 20 yards all day, but it didn’t need to. Mertz and the offense ground Tennessee down while star running back Trevor Etienne went off for 172 yards and a touchdown.

There were a few Mertz-related highlights to note. The first, him hitting a Tennessee defender with a hilarious pump fake while rushing for a first down.

Then the second, when the Volunteers hit Mertz after he took a knee, which ignited quite the brawl at the end of the game.

Mertz has had a solid start to the year, completing 75% of his passes for 692 yards, three touchdowns and one interception. As you can see in the clip above, he’s playing with more flair than he did in his final few years at Wisconsin.

Video from Las Vegas brawl allegedly involving Alvin Kamara, 3 others

Video emerged from a Las Vegas brawl allegedly involving Alvin Kamara and three others in an ongoing battery case

Surveillance video has emerged from a Las Vegas brawl allegedly involving Alvin Kamara in an ongoing battery case, per 8 News’ David Chairns. Kamara’s next court date is scheduled for March 2 after he and three others were indicted last week by a grand jury. Kamara is also facing a civil suit  from the victim seeking $10 million in damages in New Orleans.

This isn’t a new video, but it is much cleaner and easier to follow than the grainy copy shared online in the past.

Kamara will likely be suspended six games as a violation of the NFL personal conduct policy regardless of whether he is found guilty or not; that’s the precedent the league has set in the past. But no discipline will be handed down until after the legal process has concluded. Either way, the Saints should be preparing for an extended absence in the fall.

Dan Mullen explains UF-Mizzou brawl while dressed as Darth Vader

3 players were ejected as a brawl broke out between Florida and Missouri at the end of the first half of the Gators’ 41-17 win in The Swamp.

Three players were ejected as a brawl broke out between Florida and Missouri at the end of the first half of the Gators’ 41-17 win in Gainesville on Saturday night.

Florida apparently took exception to a hit quarterback Kyle Trask sustained from Missouri’s Trajan Jeffcoat on the final play of the half, touching off a wild scuffle that saw multiple punches thrown by players.

Zachary Carter and Antwaun Powell were tossed from the game for Florida, while Missouri saw Tre Williams ejected from the contest. Every player on both teams was also assessed an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty, per the broadcast.

Even the coaches got into it, with Florida’s Dan Mullen and Missouri’s Eli Drinkwitz appearing to exchange words before engaging in a slightly calmer conversation involving the referees.

Walking off the field with his team up 20-7 after the madness subsided, Mullen briefly came back out to pump up the crowd.

In an almost more-ridiculous scene postgame, Mullen showed up to his press conference dressed as villainous Star Wars character Darth Vader (though he said the Halloween costume just happened to be the only one lying around Florida’s facility).

“Everyone’s running to the locker room and it keeps spilling down that way,” the Vader-suited Mullen said of how the confrontation between his team and the Tigers escalated. “Really unfortunate situation. It’s not something we condone, obviously. It’s not something that you really want to see in the game at all.”

“I don’t know why they were running over to our hash,” Missouri’s Drinkwitz said. “I have no idea what they were yelling about. We’ll take a look at the film and I’m sure we’ll find out more tomorrow when we watch the tape. Film doesn’t lie.”

Supplemental discipline is almost surely coming from the SEC after this brawl.

Florida, playing its first game since Oct. 10 following a COVID-19 outbreak within the team that included Mullen contracting the virus, plays rival Georgia next week. Missouri is off, but plays the No. 5 Bulldogs in two weeks.

“It’s an ugly scene,” Drinkwitz said of the brawl. “It’s an ugly scene for football, an ugly scene for college football. I’m not proud of it. I don’t know who started it. We’ve got to figure it out and we’ve got to get it fixed. It’s disappointing.”

Calif. high school football coach resigns after fight between teams

A massive brawl between players for Delano and Mission Oaks High School led to drastic measures from the California Interscholastic Federation, including a season-long probation for Delano and the resignation of the Delano head coach.

A California high school football coach has resigned in the aftermath of an ugly fight between players for his team and an opponent.

As reported by Bakersfield ABC affiliate KERO, the head football coach at Delano (Calif.) High School resigned following a fight that unfolded between players from Delano and Mission Oak High School (Tulare, Calif.). While players from both teams were involved in the skirmish, Delano acted proactively to ward off more pernicious penalties from the California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) with the extend of the damage today — the entire Delano football team,  including coaches, will be on probation throughout the 2020 season.

That probation won’t cost Delano anything in 2019, but it will cost them playoff eligibility in 2020.

Additionally, it’s not immediately known if the entire football team was suspended from school in connection with the incident, though the Delano Police Department announced in a public release that it would be filing charges against players for both teams.

“After reviewing the many videos and conducting numerous interviews, the Delano Police Department will be filing the case with the Kern County District Attorney’s Office for review and requesting formal charges on players from both teams. We would like to thank the staff from both school districts for their cooperation in the handling of this sensitive matter.”

There has been no indication as of yet that Delano was forced out. Rather, given what is currently known, it appears his decision to resign was a unilateral one taken after the incident and while a police investigation was ongoing.

“We believe that the we took the appropriate action following the incident,” Delano principal Rene Ayon told KERO. “Although it is disappointing that we will not be included in the CIF playoffs, we still support the CIF’s decision.”
