Giants shortstop Brandon Crawford had a hilarious response to shutting down the Cubs in his pitching debut

Pitching: Anyone can do it!

Giants shortstop Brandon Crawford is in his 13th MLB season, and on Sunday, he finally got an opportunity to live out a dream. He pitched in a big-league game.

And really, it couldn’t have gone much better for him.

Crawford entered the game in the ninth inning against the Cubs with the Giants up 10 runs. It was the final game before the team headed on the road to St. Louis, so Gabe Kapler saw that inning as the perfect chance to give Crawford — who has long wanted to pitch — an opportunity to get out there and preserve the bullpen’s arms.

While almost every MLB position player is capable of throwing serious velocity, we rarely see that when they get a chance to pitch. Most position players lob batting-practice tosses in there just to get the ball in play and hopefully result in some outs. Crawford had a different idea.

He knew that he probably wouldn’t get many opportunities to pitch again, so he went up there looking to show off the arm. After allowing the first two batters to reach (a four-pitch walk and single), Crawford settled down to get out of the inning without allowing a run. He had a fastball that touched 90 mph and even worked in some curveballs and changeups.

His reaction to the career 0.00 ERA was especially great. He just had to take a playful swipe at the pitching staff.

See: Pitching is easy! OK, it’s not easy. But I do wish that more position players would handle pitching duties like how Crawford did on Sunday. If we have to see a position player pitch, it’s much more entertaining to light up the radar gun compared to tossing 45 mph rainbows.

Fans also loved Crawford’s thoughts on his pitching debut.

Umpire broke out the most over-the-top ejection when Brandon Crawford wasn’t looking

Such a dramatic reaction for nothing!

Third base umpire Ryan Blakney gave this ejection his all and Brandon Crawford wasn’t even paying attention to it!

On Wednesday, in between the second and third innings of the San Francisco Giants game against the San Diego Padres, Crawford was surprisingly ejected from the game while arguing with Blakney as the team was taking its places on the field. The tiff between the two started earlier on in the bottom of the second, when Blakney called out Crawford on a check swing and the shortstop exchanged words with the umpire on his way off.

From the replay, it’s pretty clear Crawford held off on his swing, but was still rung up for a strike out all the same.

Then when the Giants were taking the field to start the third, Crawford continued to argue with Blakney over the missed call. The argument was enough for Blakney to eject Crawford with emphasis, all while the shortstop had his back turned!

Given that Blakney was praised highly for his near-perfect game back in June, the missed call — and subsequent hilarious ejection — are a stark reminder that nobody is perfect.

Brandon Crawford’s children had the most adorable reaction to his epic walkoff home run against the Diamondbacks

Staying up late to see dad win the ballgame

There are few things worse as kid than watching your favorite team locked in a tight game against a division rival only to hear your parents tell you it’s time for bed.

How on Earth are you supposed to just switch into sleep mode when there’s a chance for your team to pull off an epic comeback?

This was the dilemma faced by Brandon Crawford’s children on Tuesday night—or rather, by their mother.

With the Giants (+100) trailing the Diamondbacks, 1-0, in the ninth inning, Jalynne Crawford decided to let their kids stay up just a bit longer since Dad was due up fourth in the ninth inning. Sure enough, Thairo Estrada rocketed a triple with two outs to bring Crawford to the plate as the winning run.

He made sure his kids wouldn’t be able to fall asleep anytime soon.

Just the absolute coolest.

Crawford got to see the video in the clubhouse after and quickly signed off on his wife’s parenting decisions.

“It’s awesome,” Crawford told reporters. “I’m glad she kept the kids up.”

MLB fans were rightfully in awe of Brandon Crawford’s ridiculous game-saving catch

WOW.

The San Francisco Giants held on to beat the Los Angeles Dodgers, 1-0, on a very windy night in LA last night.

That wind likely robbed the Dodgers of a game-tying home run in the bottom of the ninth.

But you know what also robbed the Dodgers in their loss that now puts their 106-season on the brink of being over? A ridiculous catch by Giants shortstop Brandon Crawford, who flew high off the ground to make a grab on a Mookie Betts liner in the bottom of the seventh that would have likely scored a run and maybe led to LA taking the lead later in the inning.

Instead, this catch ended the inning and kept the Giants in front.
