Four-star 2022 Wisconsin commit Braelon Allen decides to reclassify

The class of 2021 just got even better

An already stacked class of 2021 just got even better. The lone Badger commit in the class of 2022 is deciding to reclassify to 2021.

S Braelon Allen will now be entering the Wisconsin class of 2021, and will be on campus this June as he noted on Twitter.

The four-star commit will now partner up with fellow Wisconsin native and four-star S Hunter Wohler in what will likely be the starting safety duo of the future.

Allen joins Wohler as the only two safeties in the class of 2021. The class is currently listed (before Allen is officially in it) as No. 16 overall and No. 3 in the Big Ten according to 247Sports rankings.

Three-star 2021 wide receiver with a Wisconsin offer decommits from Michigan

It was well-documented that before Paul Chryst and his staff landed three-star wide receiver Skyler Bell they were without a receiver in their extremely impressive class of 2021.

Well, three-star Markus Allen–one of their main targets at the receiver position–announced yesterday that he was decomitting from Michigan and re-opening his recruitment.

The Clayton, Ohio native is the No. 455 player in the class of 2021, the No. 68 wide receiver and the No. 14 player from his home state of Ohio.

247Sports currently has Cincinnnati as one of the favorites to land Allen though other teams on his offer list include Indiana, Michigan State, West Virginia and Purdue.

With his recruitment now open, Allen quickly took to Twitter to show off his talent and open himself back up to potential destinations.

Also taking to Twitter last night to give thoughts on the decommitment, continuing the recent trend of Wisconsin commits recruiting fellow players via social media, was four-star 2022 linebacker/safety Braelon Allen.

The Badgers’ class of 2021 currently stands at No. 16 in the nation and No. 3 in the Big Ten after landing five-star offensive tackle Nolan Rucci on Tuesday. The potential addition of Markus Allen would only help the class as the program looks to get over the hump and win their first Big Ten title since 2012.

A top Wisconsin commit will not be playing high school football this fall

News has poured in recently about the fall football season both in high school and in college.

The Big Ten and Pac-12 won’t be playing this fall, the SEC, ACC and Big 12 will play, the high schools of top Wisconsin target Nolan Rucci and Wisconsin commits Darryl Peterson and Jack Pugh will play. There isn’t a unified decision about a fall season at every level of the sport.

Well, earlier this week Fond Du Lac High School–home of top Wisconsin 2022 commit Braelon Allen–announced that the county had “shut down high risk sports until October 1” and that they “have no choice but to pursue the Spring option as a football program.”

For Allen who is still a few years away from graduating this news may not be as significant as it is for those set to graduate this spring. Nevertheless, the decision still affects everyone involved and will undoubtably alter the path to the next level for everyone, including Allen.

He is currently ranked by 247Sports as the No. 126 player in the class of 2022, the No. 8 player at his position and the No. 3 player from his home state of Wisconsin.

Here’s what Fond Du Lac Head Coach Steve Jorgensen had to say about the announcement:

Where the Badger defense ranks among the Big Ten’s best over the last three years

The Big Ten conference is most commonly known for its old school-style play, cold weather and stellar defensive units…

The Big Ten conference is most commonly known for its old school-style play, cold weather and stellar defensive units.

The Wisconsin football program is probably the perfect embodiment of all three, finishing near the top of the conference in nearly every defensive category year after year.

On average over the last three seasons each Big Ten team has allowed 671 points. The Wisconsin Badgers? 492.

As seen above that mark is good for second behind Iowa’s 476 and ahead of Penn State’s 494, Michigan State’s 524 and Michigan’s 552.

What’s crazy to think about is that the best years may be yet to come for Jim Leonhard’s unit, as the program has landed commitments from top defensive prospects including Braelon Allen, Hunter Wohler and T.J. Bollers.

What we do know at this point, though, is for however long Leonhard stays around on Paul Chryst’s staff the defensive unit will be one of the best in the conference and in the country. After his time in Madison is done? Who knows. But the unit right now has been great and seems to be only getting better.

Wisconsin commits are hot on the recruiting trail trying to help land 2022 four-star WR/TE Jerry Cross

At 6 p.m. CST tonight class of 2022 four-star WR/TE Jerry Cross–the No. 6 player from the state of Wisconsin–will announce commitment decision, one which is believed to be between the Badgers and the Penn State Nittany Lions.

Mandatory disclaimer: 247Sports’ crystal ball projections have the Milwaukee native choosing the Nittany Lions.

But…after Cross tweeted this morning that “today is the day,” a pair of four-star Badger commits were quick to Twitter to help the program’s recruiting effort to land the Milwaukee native.

Those two–players who have been vocal on Twitter about their excitement to play for the Badgers and have been a constant force trying to land high-end recruits–were 2021 four-star quarterback Deacon Pe’a Hill and 2022 four-star linebacker/safety Braelon Allen.

Here at BadgersWire we’ve already documented the class of 2021 group chat and its efforts in bringing recruits to the Wisconsin football program.

What has also been a constant is current commits letting other top players know via Twitter where they should decide to play their college years.

Years ago this was obviously not a constant phenomenon, but in today’s connected world Badger fans should be happy to see every possible avenue used to try to better the future of the football program.

Check back in later to see Cross’ commitment decision and, if it’s the Badgers, what he will bring to the program for the years to come.

2022 Wisconsin commit Braelon Allen ‘already on it’ when it comes to recruiting other players to join him

The future Badger is ready to help bring in talent to join him

Wisconsin football got off to a tremendous start in the 2022 class when S Braelon Allen committed to the Badgers on July 14.

Allen, who has starred at Fond Du Lac High School, is the first highly touted Wisconsin class of 2022 recruit to announce his commitment. As the torchbearer for this UW class of 2022 and for the top Wisconsin 2022 high school stars, the future Badger has a chance to make an impact on the decisions of his peers.

Early commits have had major impacts for Wisconsin in the recruiting process before, most recently in 2021 with QB Deacon Pe’a Hill. Hill, along with others in the class of 2021, took the lead in helping to bring in star recruits by setting up Zoom calls with targets, taking to Twitter, and staying in constant contact with players that UW were/are trying to land in 2021. The results? The class of 2021 is the highest-ranked recruiting class in Wisconsin football’s modern history.

Allen is ready to have a similar impact on his class of 2022. “I’ve already been on it,” Allen told BadgersWire when asked about recruiting other targets. “My strategy right now is just to pick them off one by one. I’m working on one guy right now and I think he’s getting pretty close. I got a little ‘hit list’ going on.”

What is Allen’s pitch when trying to sell top recruits on the Badgers? “It’s a simple formula. Where else do you want to be? We are going to win a national championship and if you want to be a part of that, come to Madison,” said Allen.

With a class of 2022 in Wisconsin that has six four-star recruits at the top of the board according to 247Sports, targeting the in-state talent has been an early focus for the Badgers, and led them to a commitment from Allen. Now, the star safety is ready to help convince fellow in-state high school stars that Madison is the place to be.

“Like I tell the in-state guys, I donā€™t think there would be anything better than a Wisconsin team lead by six in-state recruits winning a national championship,” Allen told BadgersWire. “We are right there.”

If Wisconsin can bring the top players in the Badger state together in 2022, the sky should be the limit.

Where the Badgers’ 2022 recruiting class stands after landing four-star safety Braelon Allen

Last week the Badgers picked up their first commit in the class of 2022 in four-star safety Braelon Allen.

The Fond Du Lac, Wisconsin native is ranked by 247Sports as the No. 160 recruit in the country, No. 8 at his position and No. 3 from the state of Wisconsin.

The 2022 recruiting push is a bit far off in the distance, so many top programs have yet to land any recruits in the class.

Nevertheless, Paul Chryst’s current class of 2022 national ranking is a welcome sight to see as Allen singlehandedly has the class at No. 10 in the nation and No. 3 in the Big Ten.

With the class of 2021 currently at No. 14 in the nation and set to be the highest-ranked class in program history, it’s clear Chryst and his staff have momentum on the recruiting trail and are taking steps towards competing with the nation’s top programs both on the football field and on the recruiting trail.

2021 Wisconsin commit Hunter Wohler ready to form an in-state partnership at safety with ‘unreal potential’

The Wisconsin football community was filled with excitement when 2022 S Braelon Allen, a four-star Fond Du Lac product, committed to the Badgers on Wednesday. Staying home. Committed pic.twitter.com/BvK8KxvSe9 – Braelon Allen (@BraelonAllen) July …

The Wisconsin football community was filled with excitement when 2022 S Braelon Allen, a four-star Fond Du Lac product, committed to the Badgers on Wednesday.

Perhaps nobody was as excited, however, as Hunter Wohler, the highest-ranked safety commit in the modern history of Wisconsin football.

Wohler, a 2021 in-state product out of Muskego High School, is ready to form one of the most talented safety duo’s in the history of Badger football.

What was the Muskego High School star’s immediate reaction to the Allen news? “I was stoked. This is huge for us,” Wohler told BadgersWire yesterday. “Heā€™s a stud and has unreal potential at the next level and is only a junior this year.”

The future of Wisconsin’s defensive backfield is already taking shape off the field. Two of the hardest hitting Wisconsin high school football safeties have been in communication well before Allen became the first Badger commit in the class of 2022.

Allen made sure to tell Wohler he was ready to be a Badger before his commitment was announced on Twitter. “Yeah me and Braelon talk a decent amount,” Wohler told BadgersWire when asked about their relationship. “He reached out to me before committing saying heā€™s in and he wants to be in the family and here he is.”

When you watch the two future Badgers on film, there are many similarities in their style and their ability to deliver massive hits. Wohler immediately saw how similar their games were on film, and how they would be able to complement each other in Jim Leonhard’s defense.

“Me and him both have a very similar style in that we both like to play the run,” said Wohler when asked about Allen’s style as a safety. “Heā€™s a heavy hitter and can play down in the box very well. I think we can compliment each other really well at the next level.”

Allen is the first in a group of the top six 2022 Wisconsin high school productsĀ  to commit to the Badgers. The 2022 in-state top six, who have been given the nickname “the super six,” consists of OT Joe Brunner, DT Billy Schrauth, OG Carson Hinzman, DE Isaac Hamm, and TE/WR Jerry Cross. Allen is the first of the six to commit to any school, and the Badgers are certainly not done trying to reel in 2022 in-state talent to join him.

For Wohler, who grew up a Badger fan and lives just a short drive away from Camp Randall, adding a highly-ranked player from the state of Wisconsin to team up with him in Madison has added meaning.

“This is exactly what Wisconsin football is about: homegrown kids,” Wohler told BadgersWire. “Having both of us play for the home state is going to be unbelievable and I think with us back there we can really make something happen.”

UW fans should be thrilled that not only is the future of Badger football as bright as ever, but Wisconsin natives are the players who will have the opportunity to take the Badgers to the next level.
