The one (potentially) fatal flaw for every NFC wild-card team

The MFC wild-card matchups have been set. Here’s the one thing that could have each of the 12 teams out of the playoffs in a big hurry.

Now that we know all the matchups for wild-card weekend, it’s time to get into scouting those games and deciding where the breaking points are for each playoff team. Because while you have to be pretty decent to make the postseason unless your home is in the NFC East, there are always exploitable issues that could get you booted out of the playoffs before you even begin.

Some flaws are fixable — players return from injury, coaches learn how best to scheme around the liabilities, and opponents can have more obvious and more exploitable issues.

With all that said, here’s the one (potentially) fatal flaw for every NFC wild-card team, and the matchups therein:

Saturday, January 9, 4:40 ET: Los Angeles Rams at Seattle Seahawks, FOX

Saturday, January 9, 8:15 ET: Tampa Bay Buccaneers at Washington Football Team, NBC

Sunday, January 10, 4:40 ET: Chicago Bears at New Orleans Saints, CBS/Nickelodeon/Amazon Prime Video

Watch as Tom Brady hilariously photobombs Devin White

It was another fun day at Buccaneers training camp for new quarterback Tom Brady.

Tom Brady spent 20 years with the New England Patriots before joining the Buccaneers as a free agent this offseason. But, based on how well he’s been getting along with his new teammates, you’d think he was a seasoned veteran of the Bucs.

Brady has been joking around with teammates online and even took some time to hilariously photobomb linebacker Devin White today at camp.

Take a look.

Joe Montana lovingly refers to Gronk as ‘that big knucklehead tight end’

See why Hall of Fame quarterback Joe Montana lovingly referred to Rob Gronkowski as a knucklehead.

At 43 years old, Bucs quarterback Tom Brady is hoping he can still find success in the final years of his career, the way Peyton Manning and Brett Favre (to an extent) did after they left the only franchises they’d ever known.

Another Hall of Fame quarterback to make a move like Brady was Joe Montana, who was traded from the Niners to the Chiefs after helping San Francisco win four Super Bowls.

Montana recently spoke with Mackenzie Salmon of SportsPulse about Brady’s move to the Buccaneers, while offering his own insight and experience from his move to the Chiefs.

When Montana talked about adding Brady to this potent Bucs offense, he also lovingly referred to Rob Gronkowski as “that big knucklehead tight end.”

Gisele Bundchen loves Tom Brady in his Bucs helmet

Tom Brady’s wife, Gisele Bundchen, couldn’t help but respond to a picture of her husband in his Bucs helmet.

While Tom Brady may have made a name for himself as the quarterback of the New England Patriots, even the most die hard Pats fan has to admit the future Hall of Famer looks good in a Bucs jersey.

Like Tampa Bay, New England made a uniform switch this offseason, throwing away the outdated look for something more modern. And while NFL fans will likely always remember Brady wearing a Patriots helmet, his wife Gisele Bundchen seems to really like how he looks in a Buccaneers one.

Take a look at the quarterback’s recent post on Instagram featuring him and his fellow QB’s.

And Brady’s wife, supermodel and environmentalist Gisele Bundchen, used her own emojis to reply to her husband’s picture.

Let’s face it, who doesn’t love Tampa Bay’s look now?

As cute is the emoji conversation is between husband and wife, I think the real thing we need to focus on here is the lack of security at the Buccaneers facility. How else do you explain Blaine Gabbert sneaking those pythons onto the field?

Why Tom Brady’s free-agent move to Tampa Bay mirrored LeBron James

Scott Spratt over at ESPN.com said Tom Brady’s free-agent move this offseason had a LeBron James-feel to it.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are a team with championship expectations in 2020 now that Tom Brady is the man under the center.

The 43-year-old quarterback is still looking to fight off Father Time as he takes over one of the league’s best offenses. The addition of tight end Rob Gronkowski only further adds to the excitement surrounding this team, with many people believing Brady has a legitimate shot at getting ring number seven.

Already the greatest quarterback ever, Brady has drawn comparisons to other sports greats, most notably NBA legend Michael Jordan, who, like Brady, won six titles. (If you haven’t watched The Last Dance yet go to Netflix and binge it now.)

But while Brady may be like Mike when it comes to championships won, Scott Spratt over at ESPN says the six-time Super Bowl champ made more of a LeBron James-type move this offseason.

Per Spratt:

“Ironically, Tom Brady’s free-agent move to Tampa Bay mirrors LeBron James’ departure from Florida and return home to Cleveland in 2014. The narratives were totally different, but both decisions made sports sense thanks to their new teams’ young, blue-chip players — something Brady was missing on his the Patriots (ranked 31st in under-25 talent) as much because of bad drafting and forfeited picks in recent seasons as Bill Belichick’s preference for veteran players.

“The direct, obvious draws are wide receiver Chris Godwin and offensive tackle Tristan Wirfs, the 12th overall pick this season. Godwin led his veteran teammate Mike Evans (18.0%) and every other heavily targeted receiver in the NFL with a 32.8% DVOA in 2019. And Wirfs should fill the only obvious hole on a Buccaneers’ offensive line whose 22nd-ranked adjusted sack rate (7.6%) likely suffered from former quarterback Jameis Winston’s poor decision-making. Their 29.0% allowed pressure rate was 13th best and should improve with Wirfs starting and with Brady’s tremendous pocket presence.”

*Quick note: Wirfs was the 13th pick in the 2020 NFL draft.

It’s nice to see that Spratt’s optimistic about the offensive line, which is still a question mark. While the addition of Wirfs is a huge win for Tampa Bay, the loss of preseason games doesn’t do them any favors. Asking a rookie, even one as talented as Wirfs, to be NFL-ready in Week 1 without any preseason experience is a big ask. Then again, having to protect Tom Brady certainly provides a sense of motivation and pride.

We’ll see what Week 1 brings.

That Florida weather seems to be getting to Tom Brady

It seems Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady still isn’t used to that Tampa weather.

It’s been a crazy offseason for quarterback Tom Brady, highlighted by his move from the New England Patriots to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Brady won six Super Bowls in nine appearances with the Pats, turning them from NFL afterthought into one of the greatest franchises ever. The future Hall of Famer is hoping he can help bring glory back to the Buccaneers, who haven’t won a postseason game since their win in Super Bowl XXXVII following the 2002 season.

While Brady already seems to be getting along great with his new teammates, it looks like he’s still getting used to that Florida weather.

Take a look at the QB’s recent Instagram story.

Mike Evans is ready for Year 7

Mike Evans took to Instagram to show off his new Bucs threads.

Bucs wide receiver Mike Evans will look to break his tie with Hall of Famer Randy Moss this season if he can get his seventh-straight 1,000-yard season, which would be the most ever by a receiver to begin his career.

Fortunately, Evans will be playing with a Hall of Fame quarterback in Tom Brady, who actually played with Moss when the wide receiver was a member of the New England Patriots.

Evans is already the Bucs’ franchise-leader in receiving yards, but he still doesn’t seem to get the national recognition and respect he deserves. Hopefully, that all changes in 2020 with a new quarterback and new look.

Evans posted the below picture recently on Instagram, showing off his sweet new Tampa Bay threads with the caption “Year 7.”

Tom Brady has the perfect response to Michael Strahan’s birthday message

Bucs QB Tom Brady had a hilarious response to Hall of Famer Michael Strahan’s birthday message on Twitter.

Bucs QB Tom Brady celebrated his 43rd birthday yesterday and received messages from both family and friends.

And, it turns out, former on-field rivals.

Former New York Giants defensive end Michael Strahan took to Twitter to send some love Brady’s way, while also having a little fun at the quarterback’s expense.

Take a look.

That picture is of course Strahan standing over Brady in Super Bowl XLII, when the New York Giants stunned the world by upsetting Brady and the 18-0 New England Patriots.

Don’t worry, though, Brady got in a good little jab of his own with his response.

Take a look.

Strahan hasn’t exactly been hurting in his post-NFL life. On top of a big career in television, he was also elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2014.

So, I guess Strahan can hold it over Brady’s head that he was a Hall of Famer first.

Let’s keep this friendly rivalry going!

Would another Super Bowl win make Brady the best athlete ever?

If Bucs QB Tom Brady can win another Super Bowl, he could go down as the greatest athlete ever.

Tom Brady is celebrating his 43rd birthday today, but the six-time Super Bowl champion is hoping to celebrate another Super Bowl win once the 2020 season comes to a close.

The old veteran Brady will enter the season commanding a new offense and donning a new jersey for the first time in his NFL career. He made his mark with the New England Patriots over his 20-year run with the team, which included nine Super Bowl appearances.

The Bucs offense seems to have all the makings of a championship squad, and if Brady can capture another title post-40, he could be in the discussion for the greatest athlete of all time, especially when you consider the below stat.

Tom Brady has the perfect birthday gift in mind

Bucs QB Tom Brady turns 43 today, and seems to have the perfect birthday gift in mind.

Bucs quarterback Tom Brady will be under the microscope this year to deliver for Tampa Bay after he chose to leave the New England Patriots after 20 years.

And, he’ll have to do it as a 43-year-old man.

The six-time Super Bowl champion is celebrating his birthday this today, and even got a lovely shoutout on Instagram from his wife Gisele Bundchen. The NFL’s official Twitter account, along with countless fans, wished Brady a happy birthday on social media, too. The quarterback thanked everyone and let them know what he’s thinking of treating himself to.

Something tells me he can afford it. Plus, this old timer probably still has a flip phone.
