Full college football 2024-25 bowl schedule released

The complete 2024-25 college football bowl schedule was released this week.

The full list, as shared by CBS Sports’ Tom Fornelli, spans from the Cricket Celebration Bowl on December 14, 2024 to the College Football Playoff National Championship on January 20, 2025.

Related: Where every Big Ten team ranks in ESPN’s 2024 College Football Power Index

While the bowl schedule technically does not include the first round of the 12-team playoff, it does include the four quarterfinal contests and two semifinal games.

The quarterfinals:

  • VRBO Fiesta Bowl: Tuesday, Dec. 31, 2024 at 7:30 p.m. ET, 6:30 p.m. CT (ESPN)
  • Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl: Wednesday, Jan. 1, 2025 at 1 p.m. ET, noon CT (ESPN)
  • Rose Bowl: Wednesday, Jan. 1, 2025 at 5 p.m. ET, 4 p.m. CT (ESPN)
  • Allstate Sugar Bowl: Wednesday, Jan. 1, 2025 at 8:45 p.m. ET, 7:45 p.m. CT (ESPN)

The semifinals:

  • Capital One Orange Bowl: Thursday, Jan. 9, 2025 at 7:30 p.m. ET, 6:30 p.m. CT (ESPN)
  • Goodyear Cotton Bowl Classic: Friday, Jan. 10, 2025 at 7:30 p.m. ET, 6:30 p.m. CT (ESPN)

Then, as mentioned, the CFP National Championship at 7:30 p.m. ET, 6:30 p.m. CT on Monday, Jan. 20.

Here is the full 2024-25 bowl schedule, with dates, locations, kickoff times and broadcast information:

Wisconsin enters the season looking for a solid campaign to extend its bowl streak to 23 years. The program’s streak of 22 consecutive bowl-eligible seasons ranks behind only Oklahoma (25 years) and Georgia (27 years).

The Badgers will have to get it done against a gauntlet schedule. But a resurgent season could be on the way after a rocky start to the Luke Fickell era.

Bowl Refresher: Texas vs Washington and this week’s best games

Bowl season gets much more interesting over the next three days.

Bowl season picks up steam this week. In what has been an uneventful bowl season, the best is to come.

The most noteworthy bowl to date was Air Force’s upset victory over Baylor. Another Big 12 team looks to avoid a similar fate on Tuesday.

The Oklahoma State Cowboys face the Wisconsin Badgers in one of the most unpredictable bowls left on the schedule. The Cowboys are losing arguably their best offensive and defensive players to the transfer portal: Spencer Sanders and Trace Ford.

Tuesday’s game may not be the train wreck that was TCU vs California in 2018, but it has the potential to rival that game.

Wednesday and Thursday begin the better non-New Year’s Six bowls. Thursday features Oklahoma and Texas playing back-to-back bowl games.

Here’s a look at bowl games we can all look forward to watching.

Holiday sports TV guide: Trojan football, bowl games, World Cup, USC basketball, NFL

There are two huge sports weekends coming up in the next month, with #USC being part of them. We’ll help you plan your schedule.

The holidays are a time for celebrating and feasting, for taking some time to enjoy life at the end of a difficult year in a generally difficult time. Christmas and New Year’s Day are painful times for some, but if at all possible, it’s good to get away from the grind and recharge before the new year. The week between Dec. 25 and Jan. 1 is the one week of the year when the days of the week blur together. Wednesday doesn’t feel like Wednesday, Monday doesn’t feel like Monday. It’s holiday time and a chance to hopefully take a break.

There’s lots of sports on TV this December, with the World Cup adding an ingredient to the mix. Christmas Day is a Sunday, which means the NFL plays most of its games on Saturday, Dec. 24, this year. There’s also a plot twist involving the big bowl games on Jan. 2. (The big bowls are that day because Jan. 1 is an NFL Sunday.)

USC Athletics is part of this feast of sports on TV. Let’s help you plan your schedule so that you can do other holiday activities in certain time slots:

2022-2023 college football bowl game watchability rankings

There are always a few bowl games you simply can’t miss. There are a few bowls you simply shouldn’t bother watching. We rank them all here:

It is one of the more fun articles any college football blogger gets to write every year: the watchability rankings for all the bowl games.

There are always some “dogs with fleas” matchups, and there are always some “ooooooh, I can’t wait to watch that one” matchups. There are other matchups which fit in between, the kinds of games where one says, “It’s not great, it’s not terrible, but it’s a bowl game, and it’s college football.

Let’s look at the bowl schedule and the 2022 bowl games through the prism of which games are most — and least — watchable. The bad bowls will be dealt with in a bundle, precisely because they’re not worth discussing in greater depth:

2022-2023 Pac-12 football bowl schedule

The #Pac12 has seven bowl teams, two of them in the New Year’s Six. Get a look at all the postseason matchups for the Pac. One is against the SEC.

The 2022-2023 bowl schedule is out. There are 42 total games on the slate. The Pac-12 has one-sixth of those 42 games, with seven different teams going bowling this postseason.

Utah heads to the Rose Bowl as the Pac-12 champion. USC is the other New Year’s Six team from the conference. The Pac-12 often fails to get two teams in the New Year’s Six, so this year has surpassed expectations despite the lack of a playoff berth.

Washington would have been in the Rose Bowl had USC beaten Utah, but that did not happen. Oregon, Oregon State, UCLA, and Washington State round out the Pac-12 bowl lineup.

See where all seven Pac-12 bowl teams landed:

2022-2023 bowl schedule, part two: December 28 – January 2

Friday, Dec. 30 through Monday, Jan. 2 — it’s a 4-day New Year’s weekend. We have the info for the bowls that weekend … and much more. #RoseBowl #CottonBowl

There are 42 bowl games in the college football postseason. If you’re planning on attending or watching a bowl, there are really two segments of bowl games: pre-Christmas and New Year’s. The New Year’s bowls can be considered part of the long New Year’s weekend, which runs from Friday, Dec. 30 through Monday, Jan. 2. New Year’s Day is on a Sunday, which means there will be no bowls that day. January 1 will be an NFL Sunday this year.

Here are the 20 bowls on the back end of the 42-game bowl schedule, running from Wednesday, Dec. 28 through Monday, Jan. 2. Then comes the national championship game on Monday, Jan. 9 in Los Angeles:

The 45 FBS teams Notre Dame has never played

This list will soon be shrinking by one…who else would you like to see scratched off it soon?

Notre Dame has a long football history with several rivals they’ve played for years.  With over 900 wins to their name you’d think the Fighting Irish have played enough games to face pretty much everyone college football has to offer.

Two teams came off the list in 2021 as Cincinnati and Toledo were both first time opponents of Notre Dame.

Notre Dame’s opponent in the 2022 Fiesta Bowl scratched a name off this list as the Irish took on Oklahoma State in a heartbreaking defeat.

So who are the programs that Notre Dame is yet to take in football and will they ever meet up?

Notre Dame has games scheduled with roughly a handful of the teams you see mentioned below, the now 45 FBS teams Notre Dame has never played:

Bowl Projections: The first look at the possible post-season matchups and College Football Playoff games after spring football practices.

2022 post-spring College Football News bowl projections, predictions and possible matchups for the College Football Playoff.

Oh why not?

The bowl schedule just came out without any real shockers – other than the Sugar Bowl will be played early on a Saturday morning when everyone cares about the NFL – but it’s still fun.

After spring ball and before we finish with all the team-by-team previews, here’s the first look at how the 2022-2023 bowl season might shake out.

First, though …

1. Bowl tie-ins don’t necessarily mean they’re a lock, and they could change fast. The Sun Belt will probably need more options with the expanded league – Conference USA doesn’t need as many – and in the end, it’s all about …

2. ESPN. It’s goal with the owned and operated bowls – and with the schedule as a whole – is to come up with the best matchups possible. There might be a few set conference tie-ins that aren’t adhered to.

3. Don’t get into any sort of a twist if your team isn’t here. There are about 15 worthy schools that need to find a home – it’s a problem that some conferences just aren’t going to have enough contracted slots.

If you don’t see your favorite here – Big 12 fans, this is for you and your conference without enough options – give it a bit before we do this again in August when we go into more deeper detail on each projection and why. Then feel free to yell at us.

And yes, we go a little off the grid for one College Football Playoff pick.

Finally, for as close-to-the-pin as we can get them with a slew of things still up in the air, you can check out all the 2022-2023 conference bowl tie-ins here.

College Football Bowl Tie-Ins, Affiliations 2023-2023

– The College Football Playoff hasn’t expanded yet, so just as before, the top four teams according to the final College Football Playoff rankings will make the mini-tournament. This year, the two CFP semifinal bowls are the Fiesta and Peach on Saturday, December 31st.

– The two CFP semifinal winners will play in the College Football Playoff National Championship in Los Angeles on Monday, January 9th, 2023.

– The highest-ranked conference champion from the American Athletic, Conference USA, MAC, Mountain West, and Sun Belt will automatically get one spot in Cotton Bowl if it’s not in the College Football Playoff.

– The Rose Bowl will be the Big Ten and Pac-12, the Orange Bowl will be ACC vs a team from the Big Ten or SEC – Notre Dame could go to the Orange, but not as an ACC team – and the Sugar Bowl will be Big 12 vs SEC.

Again, the Fiesta and Peach are College Football Playoff games, leaving one spot open in the Cotton for a team to likely play a Group of Five team.

ACC Bowl Tie-Ins, Affiliations

Notre Dame is eligible for any ACC bowl tie-in as long as it’s within one game of the team eligible for the slot. However, it’s not eligible to go to the Orange Bowl as an ACC team.

The ACC Champion will automatically go to the Orange Bowl if it’s not selected for the College Football Playoff. If the top ACC team is in the CFP, the highest-ranked available team is in the Orange.

Like last year, the ACC bowl slots will mostly be based on the matchups that make the most sense and will potentially generate the most interest.
