Former Ohio State basketball player Bowen Hardman selects transfer destination

It’s that time of the year where we continue to keep an eye on the transfer portal (doesn’t it seem like it’s year round now?), and we’ve got some news from the Ohio State basketball program.

If you remember, Buckeye shooting guard Bowen Hardman entered the transfer portal when it opened up in mid-April, and it appears he has already found his new home. In fact, according to a post to his social media, Hardman has decided to continue his basketball career at the University of Akron of the Mid-American Conference.

Hardman is known as a sharp-shooter and is a former three-star recruit from the 2022 class, but he never really settled into a consistent role in a Scarlet and Gray uniform. Last season, Hardman averaged 1.8 points on 4.2 minutes per contest.

He’ll now be a part of an Akron program where he’s hoping he’ll be a bigger part of the plans going forward. We’ll continue to keep an eye on where things go for Hardman for his final two years of eligibility and wish him nothing but luck.

Ohio State basketball sees its first player enter the transfer portal

The first Buckeyes hoops player to leave the team this transfer cycle. #GoBucks

It was inevitable that the Ohio State basketball team would see a player enter the transfer portal, and that’s exactly what happened on Thursday.

Sophomore guard, [autotag]Bowen Hardman[/autotag], has put himself into the portal after a season that saw him play sparingly. He played in 18 games averaging 4.3 minutes in those contests. Hardman shot well from beyond the arc, hitting 9-of-21 attempts, but just couldn’t scratch out a role with the team.

The 6-foot, 3-inch, 160-pound Ohio native wasn’t seen as a big-time prospect coming out of high school, but did show enough for the Buckeyes to offer him a scholarship. Hardman moving on opens up a scholarship for another transfer if the program decides.

We wish Hardman the best of luck finding a new basketball home.

Ohio State basketball lands 3-star shooting guard for 2022 class

Chris Holtmann and Ohio State landed the first basketball commitment for the 2022 class with the addition of shooting guard Bowen Hardman.

Ohio State basketball and Chris Holtmann got its first commitment for the 2022 class Wednesday night. Six-foot, 3-inch shooting guard Bowen Hardman out of Cincinnati is rated as the three-star guard by 247Sports own ranking. It’s too early for him to be rated in any composite ranking, or to be assigned anywhere in the 2022 recruiting class.

He also had offers from area Division I schools Cincinnati and Xavier, but chose the Buckeyes over the two cross-town rivals. Ohio University in Athens was also in the mix for the sharp-shooter.

At Princeton High School, Hardman averaged 11.8 points, 2.1 rebounds and just under one assist per game during his sophomore season. He knocked down 46.4 percent of his shots from the field, which included 39.5 percent from beyond the arc.

Below is his release on Twitter with the announcement of his commitment to Ohio State.

We’ll see how high his ratings go from here through the next couple of years. There’s a good chance we’ll see it improve as he continues to get more eyes on him and his game gets noticed.

Here’s some old video of Hardman from Camp One.
