Best teams of the decade
From the professional ranks to the collegiate battles throughout all the divisions, some teams just had a better decade than others.
From the professional ranks to the collegiate battles throughout all the divisions and sports—looking at you, lacrosse and swimming—some teams just had a better decade than others. They may not have won it all, all the time. However, these schools and professional franchises either stood in the way of glory more often than not or totally reigned from atop Championship Mountain as a perennial 2010s juggernaut.
A quick note: We’re looking for the best here, and that means wins and titles! So if your baseball team crushed the regular season each year but bombed in the Divisional Series, it’s probably not making the cut—and no, I don’t hate your football team.
Here we go!
Whether you like to admit it or not, the New England Patriots were the NFL’s 2010s. The full hot order. Count ’em out? That’s what coach Bill Belichick and Tom Brady loved for the general masses outside of the Boston area to do. And then, they’d pull it together and outthink, out-scheme—out videotape?—your team on their way to Super Bowl Sunday. Half of the decade featured the Patriots in the Grand Finale, with the team winning three times.
Police have recovered two World Series rings belonging to Cleveland Indians manager Terry Francona.
Police have recovered two World Series rings belonging to Cleveland Indians manager Terry Francona.
The Pima County Sheriff’s Department in Tucson, Ariz., made an arrest Tuesday night tied to a burglary of Francona’s Tucson-area home, in which his 2004 and 2007 World Series rings from his time as the Boston Red Sox manager were stolen.
Francona reported the rings stolen Nov. 7, though the burglary is believed to have taken place earlier in the year.
The sheriff’s department said in a statement that investigators discovered the rings had been sold to a sports memorabilia store in Phoenix by someone asking for $40,000 per ring.
The suspect was arrested and charged Tuesday with three felonies: second-degree burglary, theft, and trafficking stolen property.

Two World Series rings are back with Terry Francona after an arrest Tuesday night.
The Pima County Sheriff’s Department announced that they had recovered the two rings, which were reported stolen in November.
Two World Series rings belonging to former Boston Red Sox manager Terry Francona have been recovered, according to the Sherriff’s Department in Pima County, Arizona.
The rings were reported stolen back in November, and were recovered when they were purchased from a local memorabilia store. This is hilarious, that this guy stole two World Series rings and then successfully hawked them to the local store. How did they think he got the 2004 and 2007 World Series rings?
Jamey Estep, 33, has been arrested and charged with second-degree burglary, theft and trafficking in stolen property, which are felonies, according to the department.
Francona, now the manager of the Cleveland Indians, managed the Red Sox from 2004 to 2011, winning those two Series titles.
Shoutout Jamey Estep. You almost got away with the crime of the century, right up until you didn’t.

Big Papi immediately told Rob Gronkowski to stop working out.
Rob Gronkowski playfully appointed David Ortiz as his new trainer during a video on Instagram on Sunday. But Gronk may not like what the retired Boston Red Sox slugger has in store for the former New England Patriots tight end.
“I’m his new trainer now, look out. I’m going to get the man right,” Ortiz said. He then whispered into the phone: “Just stop working out.”
If Oritz is, indeed, Gronk’s new trainer (which he isn’t), then Patriots fans can probably end their speculation that Gronk is returning to play football in 2019. But of course, Gronk has already made every indication that he doesn’t plan on coming back to football this year.

If he had a chance of heart, Gronk would need to return before Week 13 to be eligible to play for the playoffs.
