The Boston Red Sox (76-82) and Baltimore Orioles (99-59) open a 4-game series Thursday. First pitch from Oriole Park at Camden Yards is slated for 6:35 p.m. ET. Season series: Orioles lead 5-4

The Red Sox are limping to the finish line of the season, losing 16 of their last 20 games. They have been outscored 61-35 over their last 12 games. Boston is 37-40 on the season away from Fenway Park.

Baltimore comes home to Charm City with a chance to win the AL East for the first time since 2014 in front of the home crowd. The Orioles have won 4 straight games heading into this last series of the season against their division rivals.

Red Sox at Orioles projected starters

LHP Chris Sale vs. RHP Dean Kremer

Sale (6-4, 4.42 ERA) makes his 20th start. He has a 1.15 WHIP, 2.6 BB/9 and 11.3 K/9 in 97 2/3 innings.

Red Sox at Orioles picks and predictions

Prediction

Orioles 6, Red Sox 4

Moneyline

BET THE ORIOLES (-140).

This is what the Orioles have been waiting for a long time — Thursday night they have a chance to win 100 games and win the AL East for the first time since 2014 — and they can also do it in front of their home crowd. It will be a special night at Camden Yards, especially for those Baltimore fans who have been waiting for this “rebuild” to take shape.

Run line/Against the spread

PASS.

Keep your bet to the moneyline and total, I really do not like these odds for either team. Just stay away.

Over/Under

BET OVER 7.5 (-115).

I love this bet so much that it might be worth 2 units in my eyes. This number is entirely too low. All 9 meetings between these two teams have gone over this total and most of the time it was not even close.

In Sale’s 3 outings against the Orioles this season, he has allowed 6, 5 and 7 earned runs. Kremer has allowed at least 4 earned runs in his 2 starts against Boston this season.

Red Sox at Orioles projected starters

RHP Corey Kluber vs. RHP Kyle Bradish

Kluber (0-4, 8.50 ERA) makes his 5th start. He has a 1.50 WHIP, 4.0 BB/9 and 8.5 K/9 in 18 IP.

  • Allowed 7 R in his last start; has yielded 11 R in his last 9 2/3 IP

  • Current Baltimore batters own an aggregate .860 OPS against him

Bradish (1-0, 0.00 ERA) is tabbed for his 3rd start. He has registered a 1.04 WHIP, 2.4 BB/9 and 9.4 K/9 in 7 2/3 IP.

  • Making his 2nd start off the IL (right foot)
  • Had 7.54 ERA in 5 starts against Boston last year; Orioles lost 4 of them

Over/Under

There is some Under pressure from most sectors of this pitching match-up. Neither offense has analytics to support run-scoring levels. Baltimore, for example, has a .364 batting average on balls in play in high-leverage situations.

The back ends of both bullpens are in decent shape.

Boston Red Sox at Baltimore Orioles odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Monday’s Boston Red Sox at Baltimore Orioles odds and lines, with MLB expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Boston Red Sox (12-11) and Baltimore Orioles (14-7) swing into a 3-game AL East series in Charm City. First pitch from Oriole Park at Camden Yards is slated for 6:35 p.m. ET (MLB Network). Let’s analyze FanDuel Sportsbook’s lines around the Red Sox vs. Orioles odds and make our expert MLB picks and predictions for the best bets.

Season series: Red Sox lead 2-1

Boston is continuing a road trip that opened with 3 games in Milwaukee over the weekend.  The Red Sox took 2 of 3 from the Brewers and are 7-3 across their last 10 games.

The Orioles (5.14 runs per game) and Red Sox (5.47) both rank in the league’s top 10 in scoring. However, Baltimore has leaned on its pitching lately and has won 6 straight games, compiling a 1.15 ERA along the way.

Red Sox at Orioles projected starters

LHP Chris Sale vs. RHP Dean Kremer

Sale (1-1, 8.00 ERA) is making his 5th start. He owns a 1.67 WHIP, 4.5 BB/9 and 15.0 K/9 through 18 IP.

  • Current Baltimore bats own an aggregate .798 OPS — including 7 home runs — against him
  • Faced the Orioles April 1 and allowed 7 runs (3 HR) in 3 IP
  • Coming off his best start of 2023: 1R with 11 K in 6 IP vs. the Minnesota Twins Tuesday
  • Has been dinged by a .381 batting average on balls in play

Kremer (1-0, 6.16 ERA) makes his 5th start. He has a 1.37 WHIP, 2.8 BB/9 and 6.6 K/9 through 19 IP.

  • Current Boston bats own an aggregate .963 OPS against him

Red Sox at Orioles picks and predictions

Prediction

Red Sox 4, Orioles 3

Moneyline

The Orioles’ runs and runs-allowed numbers are fade-worthy on both ends. Those figures do not hold up to analytics scrutiny.

Figure the Boston bullpen numbers (4.59 ERA, 1.1 HR/9) as due for some rebound. Red Sox relievers do a decent job getting ground balls but they’ve been hurt by a high rate of flies tagged as homers and by a low left-on-base rate.

Sale is coming off a good start. His Red Sox have faced a tougher collection of batters and pitchers — not just strength of schedule by wins and losses — than the Orioles.

BACK BOSTON (-112).

Run Line/Against the spread

The run line on the Sox is enticing, but a low total is in play. There is a tad too much risk a potential Boston win would fall into 3-2, 4-3 or 5-4 territory.

PASS.

Play our free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Over/Under

Mostly some Under pressure from some unsupportable iffy pitching numbers and a too-far-over-its-skis Baltimore offense. Would’ve hoped for an 8 or 8.5 as the total.

PASS.

Boston Red Sox at Baltimore Orioles odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Saturday’s Boston Red Sox at Baltimore Orioles odds and lines, with MLB expert picks and predictions.

The Boston Red Sox (67-72) and Baltimore Orioles (73-65) play the second game of a 3-game set Saturday at Oriole Park at Camden Yards. First pitch is scheduled for 5:05 p.m. ET. Let’s analyze Tipico Sportsbook‘s lines around the Red Sox vs. Orioles odds with MLB picks and predictions.

Season series: Orioles lead 8-5

The Red Sox gave up 3 runs in the 6th inning in a 3-2 loss at the Orioles Friday. Boston RHP Brayan Bello threw 5 innings of no-run baseball for the 2nd straight start before his fortunes turned. He ultimately allowed 3 ER on 3 H and 4 BB with 7 K in 5 1/3 IP. The Red Sox have lost 4 straight games.

The Orioles capitalized off of Baltimore SS Gunnar Henderson hitting a bases-loaded single in the 6th inning in the series-opening victory. Baltimore had lost 3 of 4 games vs. the Toronto Blue Jays in its previous series, but the victory pulled it within 4 games of the final AL wild-card spot.

Red Sox at Orioles projected starters

RHP Michael Wacha vs. RHP Jordan Lyles

Wacha (10-1, 2.58 ERA) makes his 19th start. He has a 1.03 WHIP, 2.3 BB/9 and 7.4 K/9 through 101 IP.

  • Last start: No-decision at Tampa Bay Rays allowing 2 ER on 7 H and 0 BB with 7 K in 6 IP Monday
  • Won his last 7 decisions

Red Sox at Orioles picks and predictions

Prediction

Red Sox 6, Orioles 3

Money line

It’s time to buy low and sell high.

The Red Sox are not as bad as they have appeared in the last 4 games. Boston is 4-0 in Wacha’s last 4 starts following a loss in its previous game. The Red Sox should bounce back vs. an inconsistent Orioles team.

BET RED SOX ML (-110).

Run line/Against the spread

Giving up a 2-run lead late to the Orioles Friday should be embarrassing for the Red Sox. Expect an extra-focused Boston team to come out and try to win by margin.

BET RED SOX -1.5 (+145).

Over/Under

Friday’s low-scoring affair probably won’t be duplicated. Lyles has struggled to contain Boston’s offense this season and Boston’s extra motivation to not lose 5 straight games should make it even more difficult.

BET OVER 8.5 (-102).

Season series: Baltimore leads 6-5

The Red Sox are just 18-30 since June 27. Included in that stretch is a 9-16 mark in road games. Boston has been better against lefty starters; against right-handed starters the Red Sox are just 43-51.

Pivetta (9-9, 4.28 ERA) makes his 25th start. He has a 1.29 WHIP, 3.3 BB/9 and 8.6 K/9 in 136 2/3 IP.

  • Facing a lefty-heavy Baltimore lineup: has yielded a .755 OPS against left-handed bats
  • Owns a 5.94 ERA in his last 7 starts

Kremer (5-4, 3.58 ERA) is tabbed for his 14th start. He has a 1.29 WHIP, 2.1 BB/9 and 7.0 K/9 in 70 1/3 IP.

Red Sox at Orioles picks and predictions

Prediction

Red Sox 5, Orioles 4

Money line

Kremer is a fly-ball pitcher who is likely too far out over his skies with a home runs/fly balls rate of 7.8%. And the Orioles hurler has been yielding more frequent hard contact of late.

Boston is the lean, but only an actionable play at -115 or better. PASS.

Run line/Against the spread

Both teams play a lot of close games, so there is some risk in getting the Sox by with a multi-run cushion.

Take Boston -1.5 since the price has reached +140.

Over/Under

TAKE THE OVER 8.5 (-120). We’re fading Kremer and both bullpens here.

Boston Red Sox at Baltimore Orioles odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Saturday’s Boston Red Sox at Baltimore Orioles odds and lines, with MLB expert picks and predictions.

The Boston Red Sox (59-61) and Baltimore Orioles (62-57) meet Saturday at 4:05 p.m. ET in the 2nd game of a 3-game set at Oriole Park at Camden Yards. Let’s analyze Tipico Sportsbook‘s lines around the Red Sox at Orioles odds with MLB picks and predictions.

Season series: Baltimore leads 6-4

The Red Sox lost a slugfest of a series opener, falling 15-10 Friday. Boston has now coughed up 23 runs over its last 2 games, and eyebrows are raised because the club has yielded runs in bunches too many times this season. Just recently, the Sox have had 2 such stretches: they allowed 7.3 runs per game from Aug. 3-9 and 10.4 RPG from July 16-27.

Baltimore had scored just 2.83 runs per game — while batting .179/.249/.267 (.516 OPS) over its 12 games before Friday’s 15-run outburst. The Orioles are a solid 16-11 since the All-Star break.

Wacha (7-1, 2.44 ERA) has logged a 1.05 WHIP, 2.7 BB/9 and 6.9 K/9 through 77 1/3 IP and 14 starts.

  • Tossed 7 shutout frames against the New York Yankees Sunday and owns a 2.13 ERA over his last 7 starts
  • Figures to see a lot of lefty bats in the Baltimore lineup; has yielded an .477 OPS vs. left-handed bats in 2022 and a .662 OPS against them in his career

Bradish (1-4, 6.38 ERA) is tabbed for his 15th start. He has a 1.66 WHIP, 3.7 BB/9 and 9.1 K/9 through 66 1/3 IP.

  • Has notched a 4.05 ERA over his last 4 starts

Red Sox at Orioles picks and predictions

Prediction

Red Sox 5, Orioles 4

Money line

Baltimore is a solid team at home (34-22), but Boston has been decent on the road (30-31), and the Red Sox had some positive momentum going before Friday

Bradish is a 25-year-old rookie that has been running into a lot of hard contact. He’s coming off 96 pitches in his last effort. After 5 previous 90-plus games, he has allowed 24 ER in 20 IP.

BACK BOSTON (-125).

Both teams play a lot of close games, so there is some risk in getting the Crimson Hose by with a multi-run cushion.

PASS on the current tag, but take Boston -1.5 should the price reach +140.

Over/Under

Peg Wacha as being overrated by a .234 batting average on balls in play. Some double-barrel mound trouble would not be a surprise in this one.

TAKE THE OVER 8.5 (-110) on what figures as a 90-degree day with a batter’s breeze bowing out to left-center.

The Boston Red Sox (59-60) and Baltimore Orioles (61-57) meet Friday at 7:05 p.m. ET to open a 3-game set at Oriole Park at Camden Yards. Let’s analyze Tipico Sportsbook‘s lines around the Red Sox at Orioles odds with MLB picks and predictions.

Season series: Baltimore leads 5-4

The Red Sox have won 3 of their last 4 and 5 of their last 7. A scuffling Boston bullpen has been markedly better over that last week or so. The club’s season bullpen ERA (4.41) ranks 26th in MLB.

The Orioles have run into some scoring woes in going 2-4 in their last 6 games. Baltimore has scored just 2.83 runs per game — while batting .179/.249/.267 (.516 OPS) over those last half-dozen contests.

Red Sox at Orioles picks and predictions

Prediction

Red Sox 5, Orioles 4

Money line

Baltimore is a solid team at home (33-22), but Boston has been decent on the road (30-30), and the Red Sox have some positive momentum going.

BACK BOSTON (-110).

Run line/Against the spread

Current Red Sox batters own an .817 OPS against Lyles. But both teams play a lot of close games, so there is some risk in getting the Crimson Hose by with a multi-run cushion.

PASS on the current tag, but take Boston -1.5 should the price reach +155.

Over/Under

Too many signals crossing back and forth over the high side of the 8.5 total (call it a rough 8.75 with the price lean). STEER CLEAR.

Boston Red Sox at Baltimore Orioles odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Friday’s Boston Red Sox at Baltimore Orioles odds and lines, with MLB expert picks and predictions.

The Boston Red Sox (8-12) and Baltimore Orioles (6-13) open a 3-game set Friday. First pitch from Oriole Park at Camden Yards is set for 7:05 p.m. ET.  Let’s analyze Tipico Sportsbook‘s lines around the Red Sox vs. Orioles odds with MLB picks and predictions.

Friday marks the first of 19 meetings between the AL East rivals in 2022. Boston took 13 of the 19 games in 2021.

The Red Sox have dropped their last 3 series. They lost 3 of 4 games at the Toronto Blue Jays this week, including a 1-0 defeat in Thursday’s getaway game.

The Orioles return home after a 10-game road swing. Baltimore was swept in a 3-game series Tuesday-Thursday at the New York Yankees and was outscored 27-15 in the process.

Red Sox at Orioles projected starters

LHP Rich Hill vs. RHP Kyle Bradish

Hill (0-1, 4.85 ERA) makes his 4th start. He has a 1.62 WHIP, 4.2 BB/9 and 4.8 K/9 through 13 IP.

  • Held the Tampa Bay Rays scoreless with 4 H and 3 B with just 1 K in 4 IP in a road start Sunday.
  • Was 1-0 with a 4.22 ERA in 2 starts versus the Orioles in 2021 as a member of the Rays.

Bradish makes his first MLB start. He is 2-0 with a 1.20 ERA, 0.73 WHIP, 1.8 BB/9 and 10.2 K/9 through 15 IP in 3 starts at AAA-Norfolk.

  • Registered a 3.68 ERA in 22 starts and 2 relief appearances at AA- and AAA-ball in 2021.
  • Had 4 scoreless IP with 3 H, 3 BB and 5 K in 1 start and 1 relief appearance in spring training.

Red Sox at Orioles picks and predictions

Prediction

Boston 5, Baltimore 4

Money line

This should be a good spot for the Red Sox as they continue their road trip. Boston has struggled through the early portion of the season, but it has gone through a difficult schedule to start the season with series against the New York Yankees, Blue Jays, Rays and Minnesota Twins — all teams that have been performing very well.

Baltimore should present an opportunity for Boston to get its season on the right track. With the 18-year veteran Hill on the mound for the Red Sox this may actually be a closer affair than would normally be the case, but a small wager on the RED SOX (-130) may be warranted here.

Run line/Against the spread

The Rich Hill versus a rookie in his MLB start causes just too much uncertainty here to have much faith in either side. PASS.

Over/Under

There have been a lot of Unders to start the MLB season, but the uncertainty on the mound compounded with 2 lacking bullpens should provide plenty of possibility for this one to reach the OVER 8.5 (-107). But you may want to pass, or consider a lighter play if this line moves up.

Boston Red Sox at Baltimore Orioles odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Thursday’s Boston Red Sox at Baltimore Orioles odds and lines, with MLB picks and predictions.

The Boston Red Sox (89-69) and Baltimore Orioles (51-107) conclude a three-game series Thursday. First pitch from Oriole Park at Camden Yards is set for 7:05 p.m. ET. Let’s analyze the lines around the Red Sox vs. Orioles odds with MLB picks and predictions.

Red Sox RHP Nick Pivetta (9-7, 4.52 ERA) makes his 30th start. He has a 1.31 WHIP, 3.8 BB/9 and 10.0 K/9 through 149 1/3 IP.

  • Has a 3.67 ERA and 1.18 WHIP over 76 IP through 14 starts on the road.
  • 3-0 with a 4.15 ERA through four starts against Baltimore. Two outings back he took a no-decision after giving up 3 earned runs over 3 2/3 innings at home against the Orioles.

Orioles LHP Alexander Wells (1-3, 7.61 ERA) makes his eighth start in his 11th game. He has a 1.75 WHIP, 3.4 BB/9 and 5.9 K/9 through 36 2/3 IP.

  • Allowed 15 earned runs across 18 innings through four September starts; allowed 5 earned runs over 5 innings Sept. 19 at Boston.
  • Has been a little hurt by a .328 BABIP and 66.2% LOB rate but still boasts a 7.02 xERA and 6.08 xFIP.

Prediction

Boston 8, Baltimore 3

Money line (ML)

The Red Sox have taken 13 of 18 meetings with the Orioles as they conclude the season series Thursday. Three of Baltimore’s five victories came in a series sweep to open the season.

There’s no reason to anticipate a different outcome Thursday than we’ve seen from these clubs all season. The Red Sox are far superior at the plate and have the better pitching staff. This is a heavy line but you can BET the RED SOX (-240).

Run line/Against the spread (ATS)

The Orioles would have covered a 2.5 run spread in just three of Boston’s 13 victories over them this season – that’s how dominant the Red Sox have been against their division rival.

The Red Sox got their bats going a bit Wednesday and will be coming for the Orioles’ rookie hurler – one they dinged for 5 runs over 5 innings not even two weeks ago. We also get Pivetta on the road where he has been more successful this season.

Boston will be highly motivated to win Thursday’s game comfortably as it tries to remain dialed into the AL Wild Card race. BACK the RED SOX -2.5 (-103).

Over/Under (O/U)

This is a huge number for a game not at Coors Field in Denver, but there’s still a chance it gets there. The Red Sox should be in a position to put up some runs against Wells – likely enough that the Orioles only need to plate 3 or 4 of their own to push this over.

Pivetta has been better on the road than at home but he hasn’t held Baltimore scoreless in any of his four prior meetings this season.

Don’t go too heavy because this is a huge one, but I’m back the OVER 10.5 (+100).

Boston Red Sox at Baltimore Orioles odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Wednesday’s Boston Red Sox at Baltimore Orioles odds and lines, with MLB picks and predictions.

The Boston Red Sox (88-69) will look to recover from losing Tuesday’s series opener as they take on the Baltimore Orioles (51-106) Wednesday. First pitch from Oriole Park at Camden Yards is set for 7:05 p.m. ET. Let’s analyze the lines around the Red Sox vs. Orioles odds with MLB picks and predictions.

Red Sox RHP Nathan Eovaldi (10-9, 3.88 ERA) makes his 32nd start. He has a 1.20 WHIP, 1.7 BB/9 and 9.6 K/9 through 176 1/3 IP.

  • Allowed 3 earned runs with 1 walk and 8 strikeouts over 5 innings Sept. 19 in his last start against Baltimore.
  • Has a league-low 1.7 BB/9 rate this season and has not walked more than two batters in a start since June 9.

Orioles LHP Zac Lowther (1-2, 7.66 ERA) makes his 6th start and 10th appearance. He has a 1.66 WHIP, 4.7 BB/9 and 9.5 K/9 through 24 2/3 IP.

  • Only has two outings of more than 3 1/3 innings this season, one of which came last week against the Rangers. He pitched 5 scoreless innings with 7 strikeouts in that game.
  • The Orioles are just 1-3 in his last four starts, in which he’s allowed 11 runs in 16 1/3 innings.

Prediction

Red Sox 5, Orioles 2

Money line (ML)

The Red Sox were more or less stunned by the Orioles Tuesday, losing 4-2 despite having a huge pitching advantage with Chris Sale on the mound. The offense has gone cold, scoring 11 total runs in its last four games.

However, Eovaldi should be their stopper and end their four-game losing skid. Bet the RED SOX (-280).

FANTASY BASEBALL: Serious about winning your league? Sign up for BaseballHQ.com to dominate the competition. Subscribe now!

Run line/Against the spread (ATS)

Boston is now 6-4 ATS in its last 10 games after losing Tuesday, while the Orioles are now 5-5 ATS in their last 10. The Red Sox had won six straight over Baltimore before Tuesday’s loss, and they should get back on the horse Wednesday with just five games left in the season.

Pick the RED SOX -2.5 (-120) to cover the spread and win by a few runs on the road.

Over/Under (O/U)

The total went way under Tuesday with the teams combining for only 6 runs. With Boston’s bats going cold and Baltimore ranking among the league’s lowest-scoring teams, this game favors the under again.

The total has gone under in four of Boston’s last six and in six of the Orioles’ last eight. Bet the UNDER 9.5 (-105).
