Bruins at Stars picks and predictions

Prediction

Stars 3, Bruins 2

Moneyline

BET STARS (-175).

While this is not the best price, Dallas is just 3-5-2 in its last 10 games and 2-3 in its last 5. Having Oettinger in the net provides a big advantage for the Stars, but expecting them to win by more than a goal is a tough ask.

Boston has scored 2 or fewer goals in 3 of its last 5 games and 6 of its last 10.

Puck line/Against the spread

PASS.

In a matchup that could go either way, Dallas ML is the better wager.

Over/Under

BET UNDER 6 (-115).

The Bruins have scored 3 or fewer goals in 8 of their last 10 games while allowing 3 or fewer in 7 of their last 9.

The Stars have scored 3 or fewer in 3 of their last 4 and allowed 1 goal in 2 of their last 3 games.

Boston Bruins at Carolina Hurricanes odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Thursday’s Boston Bruins at Carolina Hurricanes odds and lines, with NHL expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”4141″ ]

The Boston Bruins (4-5-1) meet the Carolina Hurricanes (6-2-0) at Lenovo Center in Raleigh Thursday. Puck drop is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET (ESPN+). Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s NHL odds around the Bruins vs. Hurricanes odds and make our expert NHL picks and predictions.

Season series: First meeting; Hurricanes won 2-1 in 2023-24

The Bruins lost 2-0 against the Philadelphia Flyers on Tuesday as a moderate favorite (-149) as the Under (6.5) cashed. The B’s are just 1-3-1 across the past 5 games, with the lone success coming in a 4-3 OT victory against the Toronto Maple Leafs on Saturday.

The North Carolina State Fair is over, and that means the Hurricanes are back in town after a 6-game road trip. Carolina picked up 10 points out of a possible 12 points on the impressive road trip, while F Sebastian Aho had a pair of game-winning goals on the journey.

Bruins at Hurricanes projected goalies

Jeremy Swayman (3-3-1, 2.97 GAA, .900 SV%) vs. Pyotr Kochetkov (3-1-0, 2.77 GAA, .894 SV%)

Swayman is expected to get the starting nod. He picked up a win last time out against Toronto, stopping 20 of 23 shots. Swayman faced the Canes in back-to-back starts April 4-9 at the end of last season, splitting the starts while allowing 5 goals on 55 shots.

Kochetkov allowed 3 goals on 27 shots in Monday’s 4-3 OTW at Vancouver, and he has won back-to-back starts with 5 goals allowed on 59 shots. He allowed just a single goal on 23 shots in a 4-1 road win April 9 in Boston in his only start against the Bruins last season in the regular season.

Bruins at Hurricanes picks and predictions

Prediction

Bruins 3, Hurricanes 2

Moneyline

The BRUINS (+140) are worth playing as moderate underdogs on the road.

The Hurricanes (-165) are back home after a tremendous showing on the road out west, but Carolina finds a tough team waiting for it, albeit one which has been struggling lately.

Carolina has lost the past 2 home games against the Bruins, while these teams have split the past 10 meetings right down the middle.

Puck line/Against the spread

If you’re more on the conservative side, play Bruins +1.5 (-175). However, that’s a little too expensive for my liking. If you like Boston, just play it straight up for a much, much better value.

PASS.

Over/Under

UNDER 6 (-120) is the lean, but go with a half-unit play at most.

The Under has cashed in the past 3 meetings, while going low in 6 of the past 7 battles in this series.

Boston has cashed low in 3 of the past 5 games, including the previous 2 road outings.

For Carolina, the Under is 3-1 in the past 4 games, while going 5-2-1 in 8 contests this season.

Philadelphia Flyers at Boston Bruins odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Tuesday’s Philadelphia Flyers at Boston Bruins odds and lines, with NHL expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”4141″ ]

The Philadelphia Flyers (2-6-1) and Boston Bruins (4-4-1) meet Tuesday at TD Garden. The opening puck drop will be at 7 p.m. (ESPN+). Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s NHL odds around the Flyers vs. Bruins odds and make our expert NHL picks and predictions.

Season series: First meeting; Boston won last season’s series 2-1-0

Philadelphia last played on Sunday, losing 4-3 at home to the Montreal Canadiens after a Saturday-night win (7-5 vs. Minnesota Wild) on home ice. Prior to Saturday, the Flyers had lost 6 straight (0-5-1).

The Bruins head into Tuesday’s game after 2 straight off days following a 4-3 overtime win over the Toronto Maple Leafs Saturday. And that triumph snapped a 3-game skid (0-2-1) for Boston. The Bruins allowed just 23 shots on goal, a season-low, in Saturday’s win over the Leafs.

Flyers at Bruins projected goalies

Samuel Ersson (2-2-1, 3.56 GAA, 0.872 SV%) vs. Jeremy Swayman (3-3-1, 2.97 GAA, .900 SV%)

Ersson coughed up 5 goals in 26 shots in the club’s Saturday game. Since stopping 24 of 26 pucks in his Oct. 11 season debut, he has clocked a mere .862 SV%.

Swayman also toiled on Saturday, making 20 saves against 23 Toronto shots. He notched a .925 SV% across 4 games from Oct. 12-22, but has logged a mere .870 SV% in 2 games since.

Flyers at Bruins picks and predictions

Prediction

Bruins 3, Flyers 2

Moneyline

PASS: The Puck Line offers better relative value in this matchup.

Puck line/Against the spread

Philadelphia opened the season with a West Coast road trip and has overall played a tough slate so far. The Flyers have been undone by a shaky .851 SV% in 5-on-5 play, but Philly is the value side on the puck line with the way its priced.

Overall, the Flyers’ goals for and allowed vs. expected tell a story of a club that may not be over-.500, but not one struggling to the degree it has so far.

Both clubs have had their share of penalty problems, and the Bruins have struggled on the kill, at least in spurts. And just overall, Boston has let a lot of pucks fly toward its net of late. The Bruins have allowed 32-plus shots in 3 of their last 4 games.

BACK THE FLYERS +1.5 (-150).

Over/Under

The goalie matchup could be one that settles with a higher total before puck drop. And it’d be tempting to wait out a potential move to a total of 6.5.

The analytics and the lack of high-danger juice (neither side generates many quality attempts from the slot) point to a game landing on 4 or 5 goals being enough of a probability to make the UNDER 6 (-110) worth a look.

Toronto Maple Leafs at Boston Bruins odds, picks and predictions

[gambcom-standard rankid=”4141″ ]

The Toronto Maple Leafs (4-4-0) travel to meet the Boston Bruins (3-4-1) at TD Garden Saturday. Puck drop is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET (NHL Network/ESPN+). Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s NHL odds around the Maple Leafs vs. Bruins odds and make our expert NHL picks and predictions.

Season series: First meeting; Bruins won 4-0 in regular season in 2023-24, and 4-3 in postseason

The Maple Leafs were trounced 5-1 by the St. Louis Blues at home Thursday, and they’ve been outscored 11-3 in the past 2 games, both losses. Toronto has cashed the Over at a 2-0-1 clip in the previous 3 outings, while going 3-1-1 in the past 5 games.

The Bruins have had a power outage on offense lately, going 0-2-1 in the past 3 outings. Boston has scored just 3 total goals in the winless span, while allowing 11 markers. The B’s have allowed 3 or more goals in 6 of 8 games this season, too. The Over is 5-3 in 8 outings.

Maple Leafs at Bruins projected goalies

Anthony Stolarz (3-2-0, 1.83 GAA, .938 SV%) vs. Jeremy Swayman (2-3-1, 2.99 GAA, .904 SV%)

Stolarz has won 3 of his past 4 starts, while allowing 2 or fewer goals in each of his 5 outings to date. That including 32 saves on 34 shots in a 5-2 victory against the Tampa Bay Lightning Monday. He has never faced the Boston Bruins in his NHL career.

Swayman is winless in his past 4 starts, going 0-3-1 since his last win Oct. 12 against the Los Angeles Kings. That including 27 saves on 31 shots in a 5-3 loss against the Dallas Stars Thursday. He was a perfect 3-0-0 with a 1.30 GAA and .959 SV% in 3 starts against the Maple Leafs in 2023-24.

Maple Leafs at Bruins picks and predictions

Prediction

Bruins 3, Maple Leafs 1

Moneyline

The BRUINS (+100) are a strong play as short ‘dogs at home. Boston is 0-2-1 in the past 3 games, and it has managed just 3 goals in the span. However, facing the Maple Leafs (-120) should be the elixir to cure Boston’s scoring ills.

Boston dominates Toronto year in and year out, and Swayman was a perfect 3-for-3 in the regular season against the Maple Leafs.

Puck line/Against the spread

The Bruins +1.5 (-250) will cost you 2 1/2 times your potential return as an underdog on the puck line. If you’re a conservative bettor, and you’re looking for a little insurance, that’s way too much risk for not nearly enough reward.

The Maple Leafs -1.5 (+200) can’t be trusted, as they’ve lost 3 of the past 4 games, each by 3 or more goals.

PASS.

Over/Under

UNDER 6 (-115) is a tremendous play in this Atlantic Division battle.

While the Over is 2-0-1 in the past 3 games for the Maple Leafs, but the Under has a 4-3-1 edge in 8 outings this season.

For the Bruins, the Under is 2-1 in the past 3 outings, with Boston averaging just 1.0 GPG in the span, while allowing 3.7 PPG.

Boston Bruins at Nashville Predators odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Tuesday’s Boston Bruins at Nashville Predators odds and lines, with NHL expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”4141″ ]

The Boston Bruins (3-2-1) take on the Nashville Predators (0-5-0) as part of the NHL’s “Frozen Frenzy” Tuesday. Puck drop from Bridgestone Arena is set for 8:45 p.m. ET (ESPN+). Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s NHL odds around the Bruins vs. Predators odds and make our expert NHL picks and predictions.

Season series: First meeting; Boston swept 2-0 last season

The B’s are on the final leg of a 3-game road trip after beating Colorado 5-3 Wednesday as +118 underdogs and losing 2-1 in OT to Utah Saturday as -139 favorites. RW David Pastrnak was a -2, had 2 shots on goal, 0 points and a costly penalty in overtime vs. Utah. It was just the 2nd time this season he was held without a point.

The Preds are still winless after making possibly the biggest splash this offseason via free agency. They fell 5-2 Saturday as -192 home favorites against the Detroit Red Wings. C Steven Stamkos scored his 1st goal as a Pred. It was in his patented spot on the left wing on the power play for a one-timer. That tied the game at 2 in the first minute of the 3rd period, but Detroit netted 3 more to finish it off.

Swayman was the tough-luck loser last time out, stopping 30 of 32 in Saturday’s OT loss at Utah. He made 1 start against Nashville last season and stopped 33 of 35 in a 3-2 win.

Saros hasn’t been terrible thus far. He did allow 6 goals to Seattle in his 2nd start, but it has been 2 or 3 goals allowed in the rest. He stopped 19 of 22 in the 5-2 loss to Detroit Saturday. He was 0-2-0 with a 2.58 GAA and .918 SV% against Boston last season.

Bruins at Predators picks and predictions

Prediction

Bruins 5, Predators 3

Moneyline

I understand why Nashville is favored here. The Predators are far too talented to be 0-5 or go 0-6. But it’s happening. They have been outscored 19-7 over their last 4 games. The Preds are 1-5-1 against Boston this decade. They can beat up on the Chicago Blackhawks (Friday) and Columbus Blue Jackets (Saturday) after this game. I’m TAKING BRUINS (+115).

Puck line/Against the spread

Pastrnak had a bad game last time out. I feel like he’s going to be extra motivated in this one. Take DAVID PASTRNAK ANYTIME GOAL (+125).

Over/Under

The B’s are 4-2 O/U thus far, and Nashville is 3-2. Boston is tied for 10th at 3.5 goals/game and 7th with a 13.3% shooting percentage. Nashville has lost the last 4 games by multiple goals and have allowed 5 empty-netters already.

This one is going OVER 6 (-110).

The Utah Hockey Club suffered a 5-4 OTL on the road against the Anaheim Ducks on Wednesday. UHC has gone to overtime in 3 of the past 4 outings, and the Over has hit in 4 of their 5 games.

Bruins at Utah Hockey Club projected goalies

Jeremy Swayman (2-1-0, 2.98 GAA, .893 SV%) vs. Connor Ingram (3-0-1, 3.88 GAA, .868 SV%)

Swayman allowed 4 goals on 26 shots in a 4-3 setback against the Florida Panthers at TD Garden Monday, and he has coughed up at least 4 goals in 2 of his 3 showings to date.

Ingram allowed 5 goals on 34 shots in a 5-4 OTL last time out against Anaheim on the road, and he has conceded at least 4 goals in 3 consecutive outings. All of his past 3 starts have ended up going to overtime.

Bruins at Utah Hockey Club picks and predictions

Prediction

Bruins 5, Utah Hockey League 4

Moneyline

The BRUINS (-125) are actually a pretty strong value, all things considered.

While the Utah Hockey Club (+105) has certainly been a great early season story, it has allowed at least 3 goals in 4 in a row, and 4 or more goals in 3 of the previous 4 outings.

It won’t be easy for Boston going into raucous Delta Center, as the atmosphere has been absolutely electric there so far, the B’s are a top-tier team, and it won’t be fazed.

Puck line/Against the spread

The Utah Hockey Club +1.5 (-250) will cost you 2 1/2 times your potential return if you’d like a little bit of insurance. That’s too expensive. If you like Utah, back it straight up.

PASS.

Over/Under

OVER 6 (-110) might be the best play on the board.

Utah has hit the Over in 4 of 5 games to date, lighting the lamp 4 or more times in 4 of its 5 outings, while the defense and goaltending has allowed 3 or more goals in 4 consecutive outings.

For Boston, the Over has cashed in 4 of 5 games, with the B’s going for 4.0 goals per game (GPG) so far, while allowing 3.6 GPG.

Boston Bruins at Colorado Avalanche odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Wednesday’s Boston Bruins at Colorado Avalanche odds and lines, with NHL expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”4141″ ]

The Boston Bruins (2-2-0) take on the winless Colorado Avalanche (0-3-0) Wednesday. Puck drop from Ball Arena is set for 9:30 p.m. ET (TNT). Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s NHL odds around the Bruins vs. Avalanche odds and make our expert NHL picks and predictions.

Season series: First meeting; Tied 1-1 last season

The B’s enter Denver 2-0 against everyone not named the Florida Panthers. They’re already 0-2 against Florida after a 4-3 home loss as -122 favorites against the defending champs Monday. RW David Pastrnak ended his 3-game goal streak with no points and just 2 shots on goal. Florida was 1-for-5 on the power play, and Boston was 0-for-4, which was the difference.

The Avs are tied for 3rd on the PP at 33.3%, but their problem is they are last with 6.67 goals allowed per game and 31st with a 57.1% penalty kill. They have allowed 6+ goals in all 3 games thus far, and 2 of those were against Columbus and the New York Islanders. C Nathan MacKinnon is doing his part with 1 goal and 4 assists thus far.

Bruins at Avalanche projected goalies

Jeremy Swayman (2-1-0, 2.98 GAA, .893 SV%) vs. Alexandar Georgiev (0-2-0, 6.58 GAA, .787 SV%)

Swayman dropped a 4-3 game Monday to the Panthers. He stopped 22 of 26 fired his way. That is now, quietly, 2 of 3 games he has allowed 4 goals. That’s something to keep an eye on as we progress because the team shipped G Linus Ullmark to the Ottawa Senators in the offseason. Swayman faced the Avs twice last season, and despite dropping one via a shootout, he was great in both. He stopped 63 of 68 for a 2.40 GAA and .926 SV%

Georgiev has gotten off to a rough start, allowing 5 goals in the Oct. 9 season opener, 3 before being pulled against Columbus Saturday and 5 more against the Isles Monday. This is a situation the team may have to shore up before the trade deadline. Georgiev faced Boston twice last season and was so-so. He allowed 7 goals on 56 shots for a 3.40 GAA.

Bruins at Avalanche picks and predictions

Prediction

Bruins 4, Avalanche 3

Moneyline

The odds were tilting the Avs’ way Wednesday morning. They could acquire their first point of the season, but I’m taking the BRUINS (+115) in this one. Avs D Devon Toews is questionable with a lower body injury that made him a late scratch Monday. Boston is a physical team, and while playing in the altitude benefits Colorado, Boston has been good in this building in recent meetings. In the last 3 visits, the B’s lost 4-3 in a shootout (Jan. 8), won 4-0 (Dec. 7, 2022) and lost 4-3 in OT (Jan 26, 2022).

TAKE BRUINS (+115).

Puck line/Against the spread

I don’t like either side of the puck line here, but something that absolutely stands out is ALEXANDAR GEORGIEV OVER 2.5 GOALS ALLOWED (-130). We broke down how porous he has been in goal thus far, and this feels close to a lock.

Over/Under

Both games last season had 7 goals. I really look for the Avalanche to come out and play with desperation trying to avoid falling to 0-4-0. I think they will, but that’s because they’re going to be 0-3-1. The Over is 3-1-2 in the last 6 matchups.

BET OVER 6.5 (-115).
