Well, that was probably one of the ugliest losses for Michigan State Basketball in the last few years. The Spartans were dispatched on the road by the Wildcats in a game that was really never close as Northwestern shot the three-ball at an insane rate, and Michigan State could never really find a rhythm.

As the broadcasters of the game mentioned multiple times, this is the first time Northwestern has beaten a top-5 team since… Michigan State and Magic Johnson in 1979.

The story of the game was really around the shooting. Northwestern shot a blistering 48% from three and 53% from the field while MSU shot 26% from three and 395 overall. With shooting differences like that, it’s going to be tough to win games. The star of the game was Northwestern’s Boo Boui, who scored 30 points on 5-for-6 shooting from three. Pete Nance also added 15 points and 12 rebounds for the Wildcats.

Aaron Henry led the Spartans with 11 points but this was a game that was largely a struggle for MSU. The Spartans will have to sit with this loss for a few days until they face Wisconsin on Christmas.
