Bol Bol looked like he was playing a totally different sport with these highlights against the Sixers

BOL BOL SZN.

Bol Bol is having a very exciting start to his tenure with his new team.

Bol, who signed a two-year, $4.4 million extension with the Orlando Magic during the offseason, has already proven legitimate value with his new team. After just a month, the forward has already logged more minutes for Orlando than he did in each of his first three seasons with the Nuggets combined.

The former Oregon star moved into the starting lineup on Oct. 28, and he is playing fairly well. He has already had his career-high in points (26), as well as rebounds (15), and blocks (4) so far this month.

But he looked especially sharp against the Philadelphia 76ers on Friday.

He had 15 points (7-for-8 FG), 4 rebounds, and 2 blocks in the first half.

The forward used his 7-foot-8 wingspan to record a steal at the end of the second quarter, then beat his man off the dribble before pulling up for a very unusual midrange jumper.

But his defensive highlights were the most jaw-dropping. Look how far he traveled to swat this corner 3-pointer from Tobias Harris:

The amount of ground he can cover in such a short amount of time is truly absurd. Now, with the Magic, he is using that speed to his advantage.

It is hard to process exactly what Bol was able to accomplish right there.

Unfortunately, however, Bol missed a free throw toward the end of the game which resulted in Philadelphia’s home crowd earning free chicken nuggets.

Bol finished with 18 points, 8 rebounds, 2 assists, and 4 blocks.

NBA fans want a few minutes of Bol Bol and Mo Bamba on the Magic, as a treat

It is no secret that Orlando Magic’s front office has an affinity for length.

It is no secret that Orlando Magic’s front office has an affinity for length.

Magic general manager John Hammond drafted Giannis Antetokounmpo and Thon Maker, both of whom have a 7-foot-3 wingspan, during his tenure as an executive with the Milwaukee Bucks. Then, in Orlando, he has continued to prioritize length by targeting players like Mo Bamba and Jonathan Isaac.

So it was not a surprise when the Magic traded for Bol Bol, a 7-foot-2 former McDonald’s All-American who has a 7-foot-8 wingspan. Bol would make for a fascinating fit alongside Bamba, who has a 7-foot-10 wingspan.

Unfortunately, however, Bol recently had foot surgery and is out indefinitely. It is unclear if he will make a return to the court this season. But what about next year?

Bol is a restricted free agent this offseason and based on the fact he was already traded multiple times in 2021-22, he might not have a tremendous amount of value around the league. Orlando has a decision to make about his contract, though he seems to fit the bill for what the team often seeks in their roster construction.

Bamba is also headed towards restricted free agency once the season ends, so like with Bol, his long-term status with the Magic is not yet determined. But if the fans have their way, they will get to see at least one lineup featuring the two incredibly lengthy players.

Shortly after the trade was reported, it didn’t take long for NBA Twitter to fantasize about what that two-man pairing would look like in real life and not just a video game.

Boston Celtics trade injured Bol Bol to Orlando Magic

The Boston Celtics are cutting costs by shipping former Oregon Ducks big man Bol Bol to the Orlando Magic while he rehabs a foot injury.

The Boston Celtics era of Bol Bol’s NBA career is over before it even began, as his roller coaster of a season will continue in Orlando following his second trade of the year.

The Celtics are sending Bol, PJ Dozier, a future second round pick, and cash to the Orlando Magic in exchange for a future second round pick, according to a tweet from Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN.

The move is cost cutting in nature for the Celtics, with both Dozier and Bol out for the season with injuries.

Bol began the season buried on the bench for the Denver Nuggets, appearing in just 14 games before succumbing to a foot injury. That injury voided a trade that would have sent the young center to Detroit, but he ended up getting shipped to Boston less than a week later.

Now, he’ll continue to rehab in Orlando with the Magic. Orlando has a very good group of young guards, including Jalen Suggs and Cole Anthony, and adding a lottery ticket big man like Bol makes a lot of sense as this team looks to climb out of the Eastern Conference cellar in the next few years.

Woj: Boston Celtics trading Bol Bol, PJ Dozier to Orlando Magic in ‘cost-savings’ deal

The Celtics should now be under the tax and possess two open roster spots to play with.

The Boston Celtics are officially under the tax line after reportedly sending out recently-acquired PJ Dozier and Bol Bol to the Orlando Magic for a future second-round pick according to ESPN NBA insider Adrian Wojnarowski.

Both traded to Boston from the Denver Nuggets in the three-team deal that sent forward Juancho Hernangomez to the San Antonio Spurs in mid-January, the move is a salary cap-clearing trade that will also open up two roster spots the Celtics can use to take on players or sign veterans to the roster for a late-season playoff push backed by Boston’s improved play of late.

Boston now has flexibility should they wish to make additional moves before the 3 pm ET deadline arrives, and has removed leverage in any potential talks for trading Dennis Schroder of teams who would have known that Boston hoped to skirt the tax this season.

Boston’s Ime Udoka talks on Bol Bol, PJ Dozier’s integration to the Celtics

Boston coach Ime Udoka shared an update on the new Celtics.

The Boston Celtics recently added a pair of new faces to their team when they dealt away veteran forward Juancho Hernangomez to the San Antonio Spurs in a three-team deal that netted them big man Bol Bol and wing PJ Dozier.

And while neither has yet appeared in any official capacity with the team since the deal went down last week, the Celtics held a media availability session after their most recent practice on Wednesday in which head coach Ime Udoka spoke at length about the two newest members of Boston’s roster. Asked if he’d had a chance to meet them yet, he explained only one of the two was actively with the team at present.

“Bol is are here,” clarified Udoka. “PJ is still rehabbing, so he hasn’t come.”

Brad Stevens explains Bol Bol trade, isn’t concerned with Jayson Tatum’s shooting slump

Boston Celtics front office head Brad Stevens went on 98.5 The Sports Hub’s Toucher and Rich Thursday, here’s what he said.

Boston Celtics president of basketball operations Brad Stevens talked about the team’s most recent deal for center Bol Bol, Jayson Tatum’s recent shooting woes and their deadline conversations on a radio show Thursday. Stevens made his regular appearance on 98.5 The Sports Hub’s Toucher and Rich and provided some insight on the team.

Stevens reiterated his consistent point that the No. 1 goal in any possible move the front office makes is whether it helps them get closer to winning a title. That could be a short- or long-term move, but regardless it has to be with that goal in mind, he said.

So each and every decision that we make, and everything we’re looking at, has got to be based on that,” he said. “And we have a team right now that if you did it by the numbers and point differential, we should be better than 23 and 23. That said, I think that we have to improve to get into the mix.”

As was the case with plenty of franchises around the league, many fans of the Boston Celtics had been clamoring for their favorite team to take a flier on Bol Bol, a 7-foot-2 big man who could also shoot the ball, in the 2019 NBA draft.

And while it was ultimately the Miami Heat who would take the Oregon product with the 44th pick of that year’s draft, he has since mostly languished on the bench of the Denver Nuggets, to whom he was traded immediately after the draft. Now, after three seasons with the Nuggets, he has been dealt to the Celtics in the three-team trade that sent him and  PJ Dozier to Boston and Juancho Hernangomez to the San Antonio Spurs earlier this week.

He has put up a career average of 2.7 points and 1.2 rebounds per game while having a career average of 37.8% from deep. If you want to try to see how much potential might still be untapped in the third-year player’s game, or just want a look at how he moves on the court, check out this clip put together by fan YouTuber Tomasz Kordylewski embedded below.

Woj: Celtics trade Juancho Hernangomez to Spurs in 3-team deal netting Bol Bol, PJ Dozier

Boston will save roughly $4.3 million on their salary cap impact with the trade.

The Juancho Hernangomez era of the Boston Celtics has come to a close with new reporting from ESPN insider Adrian Wojnarowski revealing that the Celtics are trading the Spanish forward to the San Antonio Spurs in a three-team deal that will send Bryn Forbes to the Denver Nuggets and both Bol Bol and PJ Dozier to the Celtics.

Both Bol and Dozier will miss considerable time with respective injuries, the former eight weeks to three months with foot surgery and the latter the season with an ACL tear. Dozier, who will be in his second stint with Boston, might never suit up for the team given he will be an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season, while Bol will be a restricted free agent by season’s end.

The trade will shave off about $4.3 million from their current roster cap hit, making getting out of the tax a much simpler affair should the team go that route.

Per Woj, the Celtics have no plans to waive either, and believe their Bird Rights could be useful this offseason. Bol had been averaging 2.4 points and 1.4 rebounds per game with Denver, while Dozier recorded 5.4 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 1.6 steals per game with the Nuggets in 2021-22.

Bol Bol traded from Denver Nuggets to Boston Celtics in three-team deal

Bol Bol is on the move again. The Boston Celtics acquired the former Duck as part of a three-team trade with the Denver Nuggets and San Antonio Spurs on Tuesday evening.

[mm-video type=playlist id=01f27mq9z7hjgk6vc6 player_id=none image=https://duckswire.usatoday.com/wp-content/plugins/mm-video/images/playlist-icon.png]

It looks like former Oregon Ducks center Bol Bol is on the move after all.

Less than a week after the trade from Denver to Detroit was voided because of a failed physical, the Nuggets found another home for Bol in Boston as part of a three-team deal.

Boston gets Bol and PJ Dozier, Denver gets shooter Bryn Forbes, and San Antonio gets versatile wing Juancho Hernangomez in a deal that has a lot of moving parts.

For Boston, this deal is more about getting under the luxury tax than it is about the two players coming back in the deal, seeing as Dozier is out for the season with a torn ACL and Bol is expected to miss the next two to three months after having foot surgery.

Wojnarowski also reported that Boston does not intend to waiver either Dozier or Bol, at least until after the All-Star break. It’s possible Bol will return before the season is up, and he could offer this team some depth in the frontcourt if he is able to get 100 percent healthy in time.

6 future restricted free agents who could be dealt at the NBA trade deadline, from Nic Claxton to Bol Bol

Here are six of the players to keep an eye on as we inch closer to the trade deadline.

The NBA trade deadline — February 10 at 3PM Eastern — is hard to predict and players may unexpectedly find themselves on the move. But there are some trends we’ve learned.

For example, NBA teams often make a decision about a player’s free agency before the free agency period actually begins. If an organization decides that they are going to move on from a player, it makes sense to see if they can get any assets in return.

That is one of the reasons why the Knicks recently moved on from Kevin Knox, who was recently traded to the Atlanta Hawks in a deal to land Cam Reddish.

Of course, some teams may be reluctant to trade for an upcoming free agent like Knox. But it’s occasionally advantageous because if they are able to bring a player into the fold before he actually hits the open market, they get the first opportunity to establish chemistry between the two parties. If it doesn’t work out, meanwhile, it’s a way of clearing up cap space on their salary books.

As such, when surveying the league to find the players most likely to see their name in trade rumors, upcoming restricted free agents are a good place to begin.

Here are six of the players to keep an eye on as we inch closer to the trade deadline:
