The dream run for the Oklahoma Sooners became the nightmare scenario on Sunday as Ole Miss won 4-2 to complete the sweep and capture their first College World Series national championship.

Oklahoma played much better on Sunday than they did on Saturday, but a couple of passed balls did them in in the eighth inning and the Ole Miss pitching staff kept the Sooners’ bats at bay the rest of the way to pull off the championship win.

Though there are no moral victories in sports, the Sooners’ magical run should still be appreciated for their effort and their play, which got them to the championship series to begin with. They were arguably the best team in the country heading into the final, combining their excellent offense with some great pitching from their starters Jake Bennett and Cade Horton and reliever Trevin Michael.

It wasn’t the outcome that we expected as the Sooners played fairly clean ball throughout the NCAA tournament and had been great with runners in scoring position and with two outs. It wasn’t to be this weekend as Ole Miss took home their first national championship, but Oklahoma should be proud of the season they had. Could they have played better in the final, absolutely, but that shouldn’t take away from their tremendous run through the postseason.

Cade Horton was electric though. Striking out 13 and allowing just four hits and a hit by pitch. He provided a thrilling performance that had the sports world talking. Though he didn’t end up with the win, he was fantastic and has an incredibly bright future ahead of him.

The Oklahoma Sooners face the Ole Miss Rebels in the College World Series final, here are the key players and how you can tune in.

After getting snubbed from hosting a regional site in the NCAA tournament, the Oklahoma Sooners went out and proved just how wrong the selection committee was. After winning the Big 12 tournament title, the Sooners went 8-2 in the NCAA tournament, including 3-0 in the College World Series to advance to the championship series for the first time since 1994.

Oklahoma advanced with an incredible offensive display that featured long bombs and clutch two-out hitting. The pitching staff settled in nicely, especially in the College World Series, where Jake Bennett, Cade Horton, and David Sandlin combined to allow just seven runs in their three starts.

Now the Sooners get set to face another unseeded team in the Ole Miss Rebels who finished tied for last place with Vanderbilt and were eliminated in the single-elimination round of the SEC tournament.

The Rebels though turned it around in the NCAA tournament, sweeping the Coral Gables regional and their Super Regional matchup with Ole Miss. In the College World Series, Ole Miss beat Arkansas two out of three times in low-scoring affairs to advance to the championship series of the College World Series against the Oklahoma Sooners.

The Oklahoma Sooners pulled one win away from the College World Series championship with a 6-2 win over Notre Dame and social media loved it.

Everything’s been coming up gold for the Oklahoma Sooners in the NCAA tournament. They’re now 6-2 and one win away from a berth in the College World Series championship after their 6-2 win over Notre Dame.

On Sunday night, the Sooner received another fantastic start from Cade Horton, who struck out 11 Fighting Irish in six innings to pick up the win. Horton was the beneficiary of some fantastic defensive plays that started in the first inning when Blake Robertson went over the rail in the Notre Dame dugout to make a catch. Tanner Tredaway added some acrobatics in center field to give Trevin Michael a boost.

For their efforts, the Oklahoma Sooners earned two days off as they await the winner of the elimination game between Notre Dame and Texas A&M. Two teams they’ve beaten in the tournament. Oklahoma holds the advantage heading into the semifinals of the double-elimination tournament as they just have to win one game to advance to the championship series, while their opponent would have to win two.

Notre Dame and Texas A&M will play Tuesday at noon central time and Oklahoma will take the field with one of them at noon on Wednesday.

The Oklahoma Sooners continued their incredible run through the postseason with a 6-2 win over the Notre Dame Fighting Irish on Sunday night. With the win, Oklahoma is now one win away from advancing to the College World Series championship.

They await the winner of Notre Dame vs. Texas A&M. The two teams that combined to eliminate Texas but face elimination themselves on Tuesday at noon.

The Sooners got an outstanding performance from Cade Horton, who through six strong innings and registered 11 strikeouts. Trevin Michael pitched the eighth and ninth to finish off the Irish and put the Sooners through to the semifinals.

Peyton Graham went 4-for-4 and reached base on a walk and Tanner Tredaway was 3-for-4 with a walk and two RBIs.

Though they didn’t hit a home run in this one, the Sooners executed beautifully, manufacturing the six runs playing small ball. And when it wasn’t the offense, it was the defense that was making plays.

Blake Robertson’s catch falling over the Notre Dame dugout railing, the double-play ball to put two away and Tanner Tredaway’s diving catch to end the eighth inning were each incredible defensive plays in a game where the Sooners needed to play well in all three phases of the game.

The Oklahoma Sooners face the Notre Dame Fighting Irish in their second game of the men’s College World Series and here’s how you can tune in.

Oklahoma received contributions from just about everyone in its 13-8 win over the Texas A&M Aggies. In the opener, the Sooners had six players with an RBI and nearly every batter reached base.

Jake Bennett was solid on the mound, even if he allowed four earned runs. The runs came on two home runs, which were two of his four hits allowed. Bennett didn’t walk a batter and had three strikeouts.

With David Sandlin’s appearance in the seventh inning, presumably, Cade Horton will get the ball for Oklahoma on Sunday night against the Fighting Irish. In his last three starts, he has allowed five earned runs in 17.2 innings pitched. In those three games against Texas, Florida and Virginia Tech, Horton struck out 25 and walked five.

He’ll need to be good again on Sunday because Notre Dame comes in with some strong pitching of its own.

Sooners open College World Series with 13-8 win over Texas A&M

A seven-run second inning and grand slam from Jackson Nicklaus in the fourth propelled the Oklahoma Sooners to a 13-8 win in their College World Series opener over Texas A&M.

Making their first appearance since 2010, the Oklahoma Sooners wasted little time making their presence felt against future SEC foe Texas A&M. The Sooners jumped out quick with a run in the first and seven in the second to go on to a 13-8 victory over the Aggies in game one of the Men’s College World Series.

The Sooners got off to a great start, putting pressure on Texas A&M from the opening frame.

John Spikerman led off the College World Series with a walk. Peyton Graham fought off an 0-2 count to slap a single to right field, moving Spikerman to third.

Blake Roberson followed that up with a fielder‘s choice to short to get the scoring going.

Pitcher Jake Bennett started hot as well, retiring the Aggies in order in the first.

And the the fireworks started. Jackson Nicklaus earned a one-out walk and Kendall Pettis reached on a hit by pitch with two outs in the inning. Spikerman then reached on an infield single before Peyton Graham got the bases loaded walk to make it 2-0.

Robertson singled to score Pettis and Spikerman and Tanner Tredaway drove in Peyton Graham from second.

Still with two outs in the inning and two on, Jimmy Crooks stepped to the plate and crushed a three-run homer to make it 8-0 before the end of the second inning.

Still early in the game the Aggies would get a three-run homer to cut the lead to five.

Heading to the top of the fourth and looking to get some momentum back, the Sooners loaded the bases for Nicklaus who deposited the offering into the right field seats for the grand slam to make it 12-3.

The Aggies again rallied in the seventh off of David Sandlin for five runs on four hits to make it a 12-8 ball game.

Trevin Michael came in with one out and runners on the corners and allowed both of the inherited runners to score before shutting the door in the seventh. Skip Johnson relied on Michael’s arm the rest of the way as the Sooners’ closer pitched the final 2.2 innings to seal the victory for Oklahoma and put them into the winner’s bracket of the Men’s College World Series.

Michael allowed just one hit and one walk in the 2.2 innings pitch and recorded three strike outs to close the door on Texas A&M.

Starter Jake Bennett pitched six innings, allowing five hits, two of which were home runs, four earned runs, and struck out just three Aggies on the day.

Robertson went 2-for-4 with two walks and an RBI from the lead off spot and Tanner Tredaway was 3-for-6 with an RBI and a run scored. Oklahoma registered seven RBIs with two outs and forced Aggie pitching to surrender 10 walks on the afternoon.

Oklahoma now awaits the winner of Texas vs. Notre Dame, potentially setting up some Red River drama in the winner’s bracket if the Men’s College World Series.

Oklahoma Sooners vs. Texas A&M: How to watch, stream, listen, and key players of College World Series opener

The Oklahoma Sooners open the College World Series Friday against the Texas A&M Aggies, and here’s how you can check out the action.

The Oklahoma Sooners return to the College World Series for the first time since 2010. Riding the wave as one of the hottest teams in baseball over the last few months, the Sooners have erupted for incredible offensive performances and received timely pitching from their staff.

On Friday, they take on the Texas A&M Aggies in their opener in the College World Series. The Aggies hold a 42-18 record and went 19-11 in the SEC, finishing atop the SEC West.

The Sooners’ former Big 12 foe and future SEC opponent advanced to the College World Series after winning the College State regional and beating Louisville in the Super Regional, which was also in College Station.

Oklahoma’s road to the College World Series was a little more tenuous. First they advanced through the Gainesville Regional after beating regional host Florida twice. They then went on the road again to face No. 4 seed Virginia Tech and took two of three.

Skip Johnson’s crew has been battle-tested and has faced every situation over the last few months. Their run of five straight series wins, a Big 12 tournament title, and advancing to the College World Series reveals a team that’s been playing their best baseball and shouldn’t be counted out against anyone.

If the Sooners can get solid pitching from their staff, the offense should be able to take care of the rest.

Sooners heading to College World Series after 11-2 win over Virginia Tech

Oklahoma got a two-homer game from Tanner Tredaway and eight Sooners recorded RBIs to dominate No. 4 Virginia Tech 11-2, advance to College World Series. .

One of the hottest teams in the country over the last two months stayed hot as the Oklahoma Sooners took down the No. 4 Virginia Tech Hokies to advance to the College World Series. Oklahoma is heading to Omaha for the first time since 2010.

The Sooners jumped out to an early 2-0 lead off of home runs from Peyton Graham and Tanner Tredaway. Virginia Tech tied the game up in the third, but the Sooners responded with three runs in the fourth inning to take control of the deciding game in the Super Regionals.

Tredaway launched his second home run of the game in the fourth and the Sooners got RBIs from Brett Squires and Kendall Pettis to give the Sooners some cushion against the Hokies, who have a great offense in their own right.

Cade Horton, who has pitched well for Oklahoma in the NCAA tournament put together another quality outing and gave the Sooners a shutdown inning after Oklahoma’s three-run fourth. Horton wouldn’t give up much for the rest of his day. After the two-run third, Horton allowed just two base runners the rest of the way before coming out of the game in the seventh. He went six innings, giving up two runs on two hits, walking two and striking out eight Hokies.

Chazz Martinez and Trevin Michael pitched three scoreless innings in relief to preserve the game for the Sooners and send them on with a chance to make some serious noise in Omaha.

Offensively, Oklahoma kept pouring it on, plating runs in every inning from the fourth on.

Tredaway wouldn’t be denied on Sunday, going 4-for-5 with two home runs, a double, three runs, and three RBIs. Blake Robertson, Jimmy Crooks, and Brett Squires each collected multiple hits and eight different Sooners drove in a run in the Sooners blow-out win of Virginia Tech.

Oklahoma continues their national championship pursuit against future SEC foe Texas A&M on Friday in their first game of the College World Series. With how they’ve performed the last couple of months, they’re a team to be reckoned with as the remaining schools convene in Omaha.

Sooners one win away from Omaha after 5-4 win against Virginia Tech

Kendall Pettis had a big day to help the Sooners win game one of Super Regionals against no.4 Virginia Tech.

With the move to a stronger conference seemingly moving closer and closer, the Oklahoma Sooners are but one win away from the College World Series after beating Virginia Tech 5-4 in game one of the Super Regionals.

The Sooners jumped out to an early lead in the first inning on a Blake Robertson RBI single to bring in John Spikerman. In the second inning, Kendall Pettis and Spikerman brought in a run each to give the Sooners an early 3-0 lead.

Pettis hit another RBI single in the sixth inning to bring in what would end up being the game winning run.

Jake Bennett started on the mound, and held the No. 4 Hokies scoreless through five innings. While the Hokies did score four runs off of Bennett, three of them were unearned. Bennett struck out eight through seven innings. Trevin Michael worked two scoreless innings for the save.

Michael was untouchable, striking out four through two innings. The Hokies didn’t get a single baserunner against Michael.

OU hasn’t made it to Omaha since 2010. A win tomorrow will secure the program’s first College World Series birth in over a decade and perhaps continue a very magical championship run.

The Sooners and Hokies will play game two tomorrow at 11 a.m. on ESPNU.

Meanwhile, the Texas Longhorns are one game away from elimination after losing game one of their Super Regional against East Carolina.

Sooners struggle against Carsten Finnvold, fall to Florida 7-2 to set up Monday rematch

After the Sooners loaded the bases with no outs in the first, Florida pitching shut down OU all night and forced a second game in a 7-2 win

Things were looking good to start the evening for the Sooners. Peyton Graham, Blake Robertson and John Spikerman were all on base in the first inning with no one out and the Gators were already tapping into their bullpen.

Then Carsten Finnvold took the mound.

The freshman retired the Sooners in order and shut down the Sooners’ early chance to get a big lead. Oklahoma didn’t get another hit until the sixth inning.

The Gators rode Finnvold’s stellar relief outing to a 7-2 win to push the Gainesville Regional Final to a second game. The winner Monday will move on to Super Regionals to face No. 4 Virginia Tech.

While Cade Horton had a solid night with only two earned runs in 6.1 innings, the OU bullpen couldn’t keep the Gators off the board and allowed a four-run eighth inning.

The Sooners were stagnant in every inning other than the first and sixth. They were retired in order six times on the evening.

Fatigue didn’t seem to be an issue for the Gators, who once again defeated Central Michigan earlier on Sunday to earn this rematch with the Sooners. Finnvold pitching as long as he did against OU after Florida used five pitchers against the Chippewas could be huge for the second game tomorrow.

Oklahoma and Florida will face off Monday at noon.
