Dabo Swinney on Clemson’s plan at quarterback in 2025 after Blake Hebert’s decommitment

Swinney on Clemson’s plans at quarterback in the future.

Following Blake Hebert’s recent decommitment, Clemson football now faces the task of finding another quarterback for its 2025 recruiting class. The Tigers had planned to add Hebert to a roster already featuring Cade Klubnik, Chris Vizzina, and Trent Pearman, but now they’ll need to explore other options for the position.

At his weekly press conference on Tuesday, head coach Dabo Swinney reiterated Clemson’s commitment to recruiting a quarterback each year, emphasizing the strength of the current quarterback room. “We try and take a quarterback every year,” Swinney said. “We love the three quarterbacks we have. They are pretty good. Very few people have three quarterbacks they can win with. If you’ve got three quarterbacks today that you can win with, you’re in good shape.”

Swinney explained that the decision not to pursue a 2024 quarterback recruit was strategic, aligning with their focus on developing Vizzina. “We didn’t take one in ’24 because that was our plan with CV,” Swinney noted. “He was 17. Hey, here’s kind of the plan, and it’s kind of working out really good. He’s a very good player. And gonna be really good I think.”

Looking ahead, Swinney confirmed the Tigers’ intentions to secure a quarterback in the 2025 class, though whether they’ll bring in a high school recruit or turn to the transfer portal remains open. “We’d love to get a guy. We will definitely probably take a quarterback in the 25 class of some sort,” he added. “Is it a Paul Tyson type of guy or a high school kid? I don’t know how that all plays out.”

Swinney confident in Clemson’s future roster after 4-star QB Blake Hebert’s decommitment

Swinney is confident in the talent the Tigers are bringing in.

Clemson football head coach Dabo Swinney shared his perspective on recruiting after longtime 2025 quarterback pledge Blake Hebert decommitted and flipped to Notre Dame on Monday. Describing recruiting as “fickle,” Swinney explained that he doesn’t get too caught up in these changes, noting that sometimes unexpected outcomes turn out to be beneficial.

“It can change in a moment’s notice, but I don’t ever get too emotional about it because I’ve been doing it a long time,” Swinney said on his radio show. Reflecting on how certain recruits have worked out, he added, “Some of the guys I’ve been so disappointed with — it’s been the best thing for us. And some of the guys that we got because we didn’t get somebody else is the best thing that happened to us. So God’s going to bring the right ones here, and that’s how I’ve always looked at it.”

Swinney also emphasized that the 2025 class is not expected to be large, as the Tigers have several key players who may return next season. He expressed confidence in his current roster and the upcoming talent: “We’ve got a chance to have a really good football team…We have a lot of guys back. We love the quarterbacks that we have.”

As for Clemson’s recruiting approach, Swinney affirmed that relationships are central. “It’s still very much relational around here, and I don’t ever see it not being that way here… It’s always going to be about relationships,” he said, pointing out that while some programs may rely on transactional elements, Clemson remains committed to its culture.

Notre Dame has found its 2025 quarterback, flipping a Clemson commit

It’s been quite the day for Notre Dame recruiting

When Deuce Knight flipped his verbal commitment from the Notre Dame Fighting Irish to the Auburn Tigers, it left Marcus Freeman in a difficult position.

Many of the top quarterbacks had already made their decisions, so the Irish needed to go after a committed player if they wanted to fill that need in the 2025 class. On Monday, it was mission accomplished, as [autotag]Blake Hebert[/autotag] flipped from the Clemson Tigers to Notre Dame.

At 6-foot, 3-inches and 205-pounds, he has the frame that you are looking for in a quarterback. Hebert is ranked as the nation’s No. 400 overall prospect according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings.

This move was a complete surprise, as there had not been any smoke between the two parties. Either way, it’s a welcome one as the Irish sorely needed to add a quarterback in this class, and while he’s not as highly ranked as Knight, Hebert wanted to be Irish.

He becomes the second flip of the day for Notre Dame, as earlier in-state offensive lineman Cameron Herron decided against Iowa and joined the Irish.

Playing in just one half, Gideon Davidson rushed for 275 yards and six touchdowns on 12 attempts, helping lead Liberty Christian Academy (Lynchburg, Virginia) to a 62-10 win on Friday, according to All Clemson’s Jason Priester.

A four-star recruit, Davidson committed to Clemson in June and is one of the two commits in the Tigers’ 2025 recruiting class alongside four-star quarterback Blake Hebert.

Davidson is the No. 5 running back and the No. 60 overall recruit in the class of 2025, according to 247Sports Composite rankings. As a freshman in 2021, the 6-foot, 193-pound tailback rushed for 1,241 yards and 19 touchdowns on 112 attempts.

Notre Dame offers 2025 quarterback

Did Gino find his top man for 2025?

A next Notre Dame quarterback of the future?  It’s early but quarterbacks coach [autotag]Gino Guidugli[/autotag] extended an offer to 2025 prospect [autotag]Blake Hebert[/autotag].  Hebert checks in at 6-3, 215-pounds and is a product of Lawrence Central Catholic in Massachusetts.

On3 is high on Hebert who they rank as the 65th overall player nationally and sixth quarterback.  Meanwhile his offer list is that of an extremely talented player as Clemson, Penn State, Auburn, and Nebraska are just a few to have extended an offer.

Hebert has a Notre Dame connection as his teammate from last season [autotag]Preston Zinter[/autotag] is an incoming freshman linebacker for 2023.

Hebert is the seventh quarterback Notre Dame has offered in the 2025 class.

Iowa Hawkeyes offer 3-star 2025 QB from Massachusetts

Iowa found a quarterback prospect it likes in the 2025 class, offering three-star Massachusetts product Blake Hebert.

The Iowa Hawkeyes have identified a potential signal-caller of the future they like in the 2025 class.

The Hawkeye coaching staff and offensive coordinator Brian Ferentz extended an offer to class of 2025 quarterback Blake Hebert out of Central Catholic High School in Lawrence, Mass.

The 6-foot-3, 215 pound quarterback has a nice list of offers already. In addition to the Hawkeyes, he holds offers from Boston College, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Mississippi, Nebraska, North Carolina, Pittsburgh, Rutgers, Virginia and Virginia Tech.

Hebert is ranked as a three-star recruit per 247Sports. The recruiting service rates Hebert as the No. 19 quarterback and the top player from Massachusetts in the 2025 class.

Evaluating Hebert’s tape, it seems like he’s a good blend of pocket-passer with some mobility. Back on National Signing Day, Iowa head football coach Kirk Ferentz discussed how mobility at the quarterback position would factor into the Hawkeyes’ plans.

“You see more of that, but I don’t think anybody would turn down Brady or Elway, either, like if you had one of those guys. We won a lot of games with Nate, who was not the most mobile guy, and then Spencer, we won a lot of games and had good success with him in ’20. Our offensive numbers were good in ’20.

“You do things based on—but one thing I do know, the quarterback, whether he’s mobile or not mobile, has got to be able to make some throws. If he can’t do that, it’s going to be tough. You think about a guy like Beathard, you had the best of both worlds,” Ferentz said.

As you’ll see below, Hebert can absolutely make some throws. Plus, he’s got the mobility to buy himself some extra time in the pocket.

Here’s a look at Hebert’s Hudl tape. Plus, his full recruiting profile below.
