Black Stripe Alert: OT Josh Fryar sheds black stripe

Freshman offensive tackle Josh Fryar received the honor of having his black stripe removed Saturday, joining six other freshmen.

Offensive Tackle Josh Fryar was given the honor of having his black stripe removed Saturday. Fryar was a three-star recruit from Beech Grove, Indiana coming in at 6-foot, 4-inches, and 275-pounds.

He becomes the first of six offensive linemen to lose the black stripe. That’s a pretty big deal considering the 2020 Buckeye class includes Paris Johnson Jr, the No. 1 overall rated tackle, and Luke Wypler, the No. 2 overall rated center according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings.

Fryar was excited about the honor and had some quick words of gratitude.

“I just want to thank everybody here, thank you Coach Stud, especially, thank my O-line unit, thank my strength coaches, and I especially want to thank the defense for going hard every day and giving me a look. Go Bucks!”

Watch Fryar thank his teammates and coaches below thanks to the Ohio State Football Twitter account.

Fryar becomes the eighth freshmen to lose their black stripe including, Miyan Williams, Trey Sermon, Jaxon Smith-Njigba, Kourt Williams, Gee Scott, Jr., and Julian Fleming.

Black Stripe Alert: Running Back Miyan Williams loses black stripe

Ohio State had a flurry of black-stripe alerts at the end of the week. Watch freshman running back Miyan Williams receive the honor.

Running back Miyan Williams has lost his black stripe and is now an official member of the Ohio State Football team. The former three-star recruit committed to the Buckeyes after originally committing to Iowa State. He filled a need as the only running back in the Buck’s 2020 recruiting class after a couple of highly sought-after prospects (Bijan Robinson and  Jaylon Knighton) pivoted and chose elsewhere.

Coming in at 5-foot, 10-inches, and 210-pounds, Williams isn’t going to blow anyone away with speed, but he is a physical, hard running back that should fit well in the OSU offense. Running Backs coach, Tony Alford, described Williams as a “little bowling ball”.

“First off, I want to thank God for giving me this opportunity to play in this game of football. Thank Ya’ll for welcoming me in, my unit, and everybody who’s helped me since I been here! Go Bucks!” Miyan Williams.”

Watch Williams share his excitement to be officially welcomed and recognized in the below tweet shared by Ohio State Football.

Williams joins a growing list of Freshmen to lose their black stripe including, Trey Sermon, Jaxon Smith-Njigba, Kourt Williams, Gee Scott, Jr., and Julian Fleming.

WATCH: Wide receiver Julian Fleming sheds his black stripe

Ohio State had another of its talented freshman receivers shed his black stripe. Watch as Julian Fleming “officially’ becomes a Buckeye.

We’re going to get more and more of these over the next month leading up to the season, so get ready for a slew of newcomers to “officially” become a part of the Ohio State program. It’s the right of passage for every OSU player to have his black-stripe removed.

The latest Buckeye to be honored is freshman wide receiver Julian Fleming. Of any newcomer, many Ohio State fans are likely to know about the country’s No. 1 rated receiver in the 2020 class. At 6-foot, 2-inches, and 199-pounds, Fleming has the length and size to fit immediately into the plans of the receiver room this fall.

“Hey man. I appreciate y’all boys,” Fleming said. “Shoutout Zone 6, shoutout everybody for, you know, coming through. I know it’s been a crazy season but let’s push forward for that first game. Go Bucks!”

Watch as he is introduced to the team and provides a quick little speech and has his black stripe removed by fellow veteran receiver Chris Olave.

So far, if you’re keeping track, we’ve seen all of the following players lose their black stripes thus far.

Trey Sermon

Kourt Williams

Jaxon Smith-Njigba

Gee Scott, Jr.

We’ll continue to keep tabs as the newcomers get assimilated to the culture at Ohio State.

Gee Scott, Jr., latest to lose black-stripe at Ohio State

Watch as Ohio State freshman wide receiver Gee Scott Jr goes through the ceremony of having his black stripe removed in preseason camp.

We’re starting to see several new additions to the Ohio State football team shed their black stripes. So far, we’ve seen running back Trey Sermon, wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba, and safety Kourt Williams receive the honor.

And you had to believe another one of the hard working blue-chip wide receivers would be recognized as “officially” a part of Buckeye Nation soon. Sure enough, we had a black-stripe alert Tuesday for Gee Scott, Jr.

The 6-foot, 3-inch, 210-pounder out of Seattle might be one of the most underrated players in the 2020 class. Not that being ranked as the No. 10 receiver in the class and No. 66 overall prospect according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings is anything to sneeze at, but he’s not had quite the buzz of fellow wide receivers Julian Fleming and Jaxon Smith-Njigba. Make no mistake though, Gee was impressive in every camp and national competition he was a part of and will be a huge part of this offense in the future.

“Man, I appreciate y’all welcoming me in right away and making me one of your own, man,” Scott said to during the short ceremony. “I’m just blessed to be a part of this. Shoutout to Zone 6 — coach Hartline. Appreciate y’all, man. Buckeyes!”

Thanks to the Ohio State Football Twitter account, you can watch the video of some highlights and it all go down in practice where it’s apparent Scott, Jr. can high point the ball.
