Wofford transfer BJ Mack includes LSU in top 5

The Tigers are among the finalists for the First Team All-SoCon selection.

With five LSU players entering the transfer portal since the conclusion of the 2022-23 season, it’s not surprising that the Tigers have been among the more active teams when it comes to reaching out to portal prospects heading into coach Matt McMahon’s second season.

One of the first players LSU reached out to was [autotag]BJ Mack[/autotag], a forward transfer from Wofford, and that work has apparently paid off as the Tigers were included among Mack’s top five alongside South Carolina, Arkansas, Iowa and Alabama.

A 6-foot-8 player originally from Charlotte, Mack played in and started 32 games as a senior in 2022-23, averaging 16.6 points and 5.6 rebounds.

Mack was a First Team All-Southern Conference selection last season, and landing an experienced player of his caliber for the frontcourt would certainly help soften some of the losses in the portal.

Alabama lands in top-five for Wofford transfer BJ Mack

Wofford transfer BJ Mack released his top-five schools on Tuesday. Alabama made the cut and is expected to have Mack on campus soon.

Wofford forward transfer BJ Mack released his top-five schools on Tuesday. The other schools that made the cut are LSU, Arkansas, Iowa, and South Carolina. Mack has reportedly scheduled an official visit to Alabama as well.

Mack spent four seasons at Wofford and was a part of a Terriers squad that reached the NCAA Tournament in 2019.

As a senior, Mack averaged 16.6 points per game, 5.6 rebounds per game, and 1.4 assists per game. He also shot an impressive 49.2% from the field and 33.5% from beyond-the-arc.

Mack scored double-digits in 28 of the 31 games that he played in last season.

With players like Noah Gurley and Noah Clowney leaving, Mack could see immediate playing time in Alabama’s frontcourt next season. He would join a backcourt that consists of rising senior Nick Pringle as well as freshmen Sam Walters and Mouhamed Dioubate.

Roll Tide Wire will continue to follow news surrounding the Alabama basketball program and its involvement in the transfer portal.

Michigan basketball makes top 10 list for top transfer target

#Michigan has a chance to land him!

It was a disappointing season with a poetic ending for the Michigan basketball team. The Wolverines squandered a eight-point lead with one minute remaining in their final game against Vanderbilt in the NIT Tournament — something Michigan frequently did this season.

The Wolverines are now in their offseason and roster moves will be happening. So far, Michigan has lost Isaiah Barnes to the transfer portal and the Wolverines are waiting on decisions from Hunter Dickinson, Kobe Bufkin, and Jett Howard on their NBA decisions.

While waiting on decisions from the current roster, Juwan Howard and Michigan isn’t wasting time on looking to add from the transfer portal.

The Wolverines are highly targeting Wofford transfer B.J. Mack. The 6-foot-8 power forward averaged over 16 points per game and over five rebounds last year. Mack went to Twitter to announce his top 10 schools he will be considering for next season and the Wolverines made his list.

Mack spoke with 247Sports about each of his top 10 schools he is deciding between. Here is what he had to say about the Wolverines:

Juwan Howard has been recruiting me throughout this process. He is somebody that played my position at the highest level and has reached a goal of mine. He is a legendary coach and a legendary player. I feel being able to play beside an All-American in Hunter Dickinson is a great opportunity. I want to be on that exposure level because there are going to be NBA scouts at every game that you play. Being there with them is highly intriguing.”

Michigan struggled mightily to get consistent help at the 4 position this season. Terrance Williams started the year there, but Will Tschetter got his chance as well. Neither looked to be the answer going forward. Mack could be a good addition to the Wolverines if Howard and Co. can land him.

According to the On3 transfer portal rankings, Mack is listed as the 59th-best  player and a four-star.

Florida basketball transfer target has Gators among his top 10

One of the Gators’ most sought-after transfer portal targets has listed Florida in his Top 10 list of teams he could play for in 2023.

After a 16-17 record in his first season at the helm, Florida men’s basketball coach Todd Golden is looking to make immediate improvements to the roster via the transfer portal. With that in mind, Golden received some good news on Monday, as former Wofford wing player [autotag]BJ Mack[/autotag] has listed the Gators in his top 10 schools.

Mack has been heavily courted by Golden and his staff since entering the transfer portal in early March. According to On3’s Joe Tipton, Mack was the first player that the Gators reached out to in the transfer portal. He also received an in-home visit from Golden and his staff during the month of March.

The Oak Hill Academy product originally played college basketball at USF, before transferring to Wofford after just one season. In the 2021-2022 season, he averaged 16.5 points, 6.2 rebounds, and 2.2 assists per game, all while shooting 54% from the floor. Most notably, he shot a staggering 45% from three-point range that year. Despite his three-point average dropping to 33.5% last season, there’s no denying that the six-foot-eight, 261-pound power forward can shoot the ball effectively.

In order to see Mack in a Florida jersey in 2023, the Gators are going to have to beat out the other nine teams on Mack’s shortlist. Of those nine teams, LSU, South Carolina, Arkansas, Mississippi State and Vanderbilt are the other SEC teams involved in his recruitment.

With Colin Castleton’s collegiate career over, and Jason Jitoboh and CJ Felder both entering the transfer portal, frontcourt players are the biggest needs on the Orange and Blue’s roster. Mack might be what the Gators need to avoid missing the NCAA tournament for a third straight season.

Wofford transfer BJ Mack cuts list of finalists to 10

The graduate transfer is one of the most sought-after players in the portal.

The Tigers remain in the mix for one of the most sought-after grad transfers in college basketball as they made the cut for Wofford forward [autotag]BJ Mack[/autotag], who recently trimmed his list down to 10 teams according to his Instagram account.

The 6-foot-8 native of Charlotte become a full-time starter for the Terriers over the last two seasons, and he averaged 16.6 points and 5.6 rebounds in 2022-23 while shooting 49.2% from the field. He entered the transfer portal after the season, and he’s received quite a bit of attention since.

Alongside LSU, Mack included Florida, Arkansas, Iowa, Butler, Xavier, Mississippi State, Vanderbilt, Michigan and South Carolina among his finalists.

LSU is competing with a number of good programs here, but this team could really use the help after a disappointing Year 1 campaign from coach [autotag]Matt McMahon[/autotag], who went just 2-16 in SEC play and lost 14 straight games from December to February.

LSU basketball one of several programs showing interest in Wofford transfer

Matt McMahon is already looking to add reinforcements after a rough year.

After a regular season that saw LSU win just two conference games, [autotag]Matt McMahon[/autotag] is searching for reinforcements.

According to On3, LSU has reached out to former Wofford player and grad transfer [autotag]BJ Mack[/autotag].

Over 20 schools have contacted the 6-foot-8 forward. Mack has averaged 11.9 points per game throughout his career, averaging 16.6 this past season. It was his second-straight year averaging over 16 points.

He’s experienced, having appeared in over 100 games throughout his time in college and starting 69 of them. LSU needs help, and an addition like Mack would go a long way, but there’s some hefty competition.

McMahon is going to need a good sell to add the type of talent LSU needs throughout the offseason. It’s not clear what LSU’s roster will look like next year. There could be a lot of change again, which isn’t a bad thing.

We don’t know where McMahon was just trying to fill holes last year or which guys factor into his long-term plans. Rebuilds take time and a constant shifting of personnel.

Regardless, it’s clear some changes need to be made following a disappointing campaign.
