Notre Dame lands one of Wisconsin’s top class of 2022 targets

Notre Dame lands one of Wisconsin’s top class of 2022 targets

Notre Dame has earned a commitment from class of 2022 four-star interior offensive lineman Billy Schrauth.

Schrauth is the state of Wisconsin’s No. 3 player in the class of 2022 and was one of the Badgers top targets. With this commitment and Jerry Cross committing to Penn State earlier in the cycle, Wisconsin has now missed on two of the state’s top five players in the class of 2022, with two (Isaac Hamm and Carson Hinzman) still uncommitted.

Schrauth is 247Sports No. 171 player in the class of 2022 and No. 11 interior offensive lineman. His commitment makes Notre Dame’s class the No. 6 class in the country.

Wisconsin’s class, on the other hand, currently sits ranked No. 10 in the Big Ten and No. 43 in the nation.

Notre Dame receives a crystal ball prediction to land a top Wisconsin target

Wisconsin and Notre Dame have been battling to land class of 2022 interior offensive lineman Billy Schrauth since the start of the 2022 recruiting cycle. 247Sports has given Schrauth five crystal ball predictions since the start of October, all five of which have predicted Notre Dame as the landing spot.

The most recent one came today from Wisconsin insider Evan Flood. His prediction joins one from two Notre Dame insiders, the 247Sports director of football recruiting and an Ohio State insider.

Schrauth is a four-star recruit according to 247Sports. He is also ranked as the No. 171 player in the class of 2022, No. 11 interior offensive lineman and No. 3 recruit from the state of Wisconsin.

For good measure, Notre Dame head coach Marcus Freeman released what seems to be a bat signal last night. If you remember, this is something that’s become common from schools and recruiting departments when a commitment is on the horizon.

We’ll now wait and see where Schrauth ends up.

How Brian Kelly’s departure from Notre Dame directly affects Wisconsin football

How Brian Kelly’s departure from Notre Dame directly affects Wisconsin

The college football world was sent for a spin over the last 48 hours with Oklahoma head coach Lincoln Riley going to USC and Notre Dame head coach Brian Kelly taking the job at LSU.

The long-reaching impact of those moves would take months to explain and lay out. But for now, there is a direct Wisconsin connection to note.

First off, the Badgers play the Fighting Irish in 2026. That game figures to be a bit of a better matchup for Wisconsin without Kelly there, though a lot will ride on who is hired to take over in South Bend.

More importantly: Notre Dame is now forced to scramble a bit on the recruiting trail with the 2022 cycle already moving fast.

One player Notre Dame and Wisconsin have been battling for is in-state interior offensive lineman Billy Schrauth. Notre Dame recently figured to be the favorites to land the Fond Du Lac native, though that now changes completely with Kelly gone.

Schrauth would be a critical addition to Wisconsin’s class of 2022 if he were to commit. The class currently sits No. 42 in the nation and No. 9 in the Big Ten Conference.

A top in-state OL receives two 247Sports crystal ball predictions to Notre Dame

A top in-state OL receives two 247Sports crystal ball predictions to Notre Dame

The Wisconsin football program has already landed two of the top six recruits in the state in the class of 2022—four-star OT Barrett Nelson and four-star OT Joe Brunner. With four-star TE Jerry Cross committed to Penn State, three of those top six recruits still remain—IOL Carson Hinzman, IOL Billy Schrauth and DL Isaac Hamm.

The Badgers have received 247Sports crystal ball predictions for all three. There are now a few new crystal balls to note, though, as earlier today Schrauth received two projections to Notre Dame.

That makes five total crystal ball predictions for the four-star interior offensive lineman. Notre Dame Insider Kevin Sinclair, Wisconsin insider Evan Flood and Ohio State insider Bill Kurelic predicted Wisconsin, while Notre Dame insider Tom Loy and Director of Football Recruiting Steve Wiltfong predicted Notre Dame.

Wisconsin, Ohio State, Notre Dame and Michigan make up Schrauth’s top four schools.

Indications are, while Wisconsin stays strong with Hamm and Hinzman, that Notre Dame has a great shot to land Schrauth over the presumed in-state favorite.

Is Notre Dame trending for star Wisconsin offensive tackle?

This is great news for the Irish

As the 2022 class is coming to a close, the Irish have a unique situation on their hands. With 21 current commitments and a ranking inside the Top-10 according to the major recruiting services, Brian Kelly can be picky about who should fill the remaining spots.

[listicle id=17189]

They will keep one open for Iowa safety Xavier Nwankpa, who will make his decision in early December. They’ll also keep a spot open for Wisconsin offensive lineman Billy Schrauth. The six-foot-five and 285-pound interior lineman is regarded as one of the best in the country, holding offers from Ohio State, Auburn, Wisconsin, Iowa and others.

Today, 247Sports recruiting national lead Steve Wiltfong and Notre Dame insider Tom Loy both registered crystal ball selections for the Irish regarding Schrauth’s recruitment. Both of them have plenty of ears to the ground in recruiting and it seems like the Irish have a great opportunity to add yet another talented offensive lineman to the 2022 recruiting class.

Wisconsin receives three crystal ball predictions to land a top in-state OL

Wisconsin receives three crystal ball predictions to land a top in-state OL

While the Wisconsin Badgers dropped their 2021 season opener to the Penn State Nittany Lions on Saturday, there is a bit of good news to report from the weekend.

It is on the recruiting trail, as the program picked up three 247Sports crystal ball predictions to land top class of 2022 in-state offensive lineman Billy Schrauth.

The predictions come from director of football recruiting Steve Wiltfong, Notre Dame insider Tom Loy and Ohio State insider Bill Kurelic. All three are significant to note, as the other top schools for the interior offensive lineman are the Buckeyes and Fighting Irish.

Schrauth is 247Sports’ No. 161 player in the class of 2022, No. 8 interior offensive lineman and No. 3 player from the state of Wisconsin.

This is welcome news for a recruiting class and program that has gone some time since landing a commitment.

Wisconsin receives a crystal ball prediction to land a top in-state offensive lineman

Wisconsin receives a crystal ball prediction to land a top in-state offensive lineman

Wisconsin’s class of 2022 recruiting output will most likely come down, as it usually does, to landing the remaining top players from the Badger state.

They’ve already landed the state’s No. 1 player—four-star OT Joe Brunner—and No. 6—four-star OT Barrett Nelson. With the Jerry Cross, the state’s No. 5-ranked player, already committed to Penn State, all eyes are on four-star IOL Carson Hinzman (No. 2), four-star IOL Billy Schrauth (No. 3) and four-star DL Isaac Hamm (No. 4).

Wisconsin’s class of 2022 can be considered a sizable success if the program is able to land those three remaining uncommitted players.

Well, some good news on that front came out on Wednesday as the Badgers received a 247Sports crystal ball prediction to land IOL Billy Schrauth.

The prediction comes from Notre Dame insider Kevin Sinclair, a good sign given the Fighting Irish are the other team with a great chance to land the highly-touted offensive lineman.

Schrauth is 247Sports’ No. 161 player in the class of 2022, No. 8 interior offensive lineman and, again, No. 3 player in the state of Wicsonsin.

Wisconsin’s class of 2022 currently sits ranked No. 45 in the country and No. 11 in the Big Ten, though those rankings will change drastically with commitments from Schrauth, Hamm and Hinzman.

In-state recruiting, as it always does, will define Wisconsin’s class of 2022.

The Badgers already have a commitment from the No. 6, 8 and 10-ranked recruits from Wisconsin. The big names at the top, though? It will be commitments from them that pushes the Badgers’ class towards the top of the conference.

There’s four-star OT Joe Brunner (who Wisconsin has a crystal ball to land), four-star IOL Carson Hinzman (who Wisconsin has a crystal ball to land), four-star DL Isaac Hamm (who Wisconsin has a crystal ball to land) and four-star IOL Billy Schrauth.

While Notre Dame is projected to be a heavy competitor, the Wisconsin football program picked up a crystal ball prediction to land Schrauth yesterday.

Schrauth is 247Sports‘ No. 159 player in the class of 2022, No. 8 interior offensive lineman and No. 3 recruit from the state of Wisconsin.

The Badgers’ class of 2022 is starting to come together with five commitments coming in the last week. That said, the program still has a lot of work to do in their state before we can call the recruiting cycle a success.

Notre Dame Recruiting update plus 2022 offensive wishlist

An update of the latest Notre Dame football recruiting news along with a 2022 offensive wish list.

The Notre Dame 2021 class is pretty much all wrapped up. With 26 players who have signed their letter of intent, Brian Kelly’s class has been pretty much maxed out. Louisiana’s Logan Diggs remains committed, but reading the tea leaves and the class having over the allotted 25 players, it’s doubtful that the running back ends up signing with the Irish on the second signing day, February 3rd.

So the focus has been turned to the 2022 class, which has 4 current commits (offensive linemen Joey Tanona and Ty Chan, safety Nolan Ziegler and tight end Jack Nickel). Let’s take a look at the most recent news on that class along with my personal wishlist of offensive prospects in that class. Next week, I’ll bring you my defensive wish list.

Wisconsin in the top-4 for 2022 four-star defensive lineman

Recruiting news has slowed down a bit with the season now less than one week away and all eyes focused on Graham Mertz and the upcoming schedule.

Paul Chryst and the Badgers are still out on the recruiting trail, though, as they look to continue the momentum from their No. 16-ranked class of 2021.

Though this news did not come as much of a surprise, yesterday the Badgers were listed in the top-4 schools of 2022 four-star defensive tackle Billy Schrauth.

The Fond Du Lac, Wisconsin native is the No. 151 player in the class of 2022, the No. 17 recruit at his position and the No. 3 player from the state of Wisconsin.

247Sports’ current crystal ball projection has Wisconsin and Notre Dame as the lead dogs to land Schrauth, Notre Dame’s projection having the higher confidence level of the two.

After four-star LB/S Braelon Allen reclassified and joined the program’s class of 2021 the Badgers were left without a commit in the 2022 class.

Adding Schrauth would be a big way to change that and maintain their recruiting control in the state in which they play.
