Five-star recruit Billy Richmond flips commitment from Kentucky to Arkansas

They’re following Cal and Arkansas fans have to be loving it.

Less than 24 hours after John Calipari landed five-star high-school point guard Boogie Fland, another five-star player entered the fold.

Billy Richmond, the No. 25 player in the Class of 2024, committed to play for Arkansas on Friday, becoming the third former Kentucky commit to flip to the Razorbacks since Calipari left Lexington for Fayetteville earlier in April.

A 6-foot-5, 200-pound wing, Richmond is the son of Billy Richmond Jr. who played for Calipari at Memphis. The younger Richmond previously considered the Tigers along with LSU and Alabama before picking Calipari.

Richmond follows Bland and wing Karter Knox as the first three commits in Calipari’s initial class at Arkansas. The Razorbacks also brought in Zvonimir Ivisic, a 7-foot-3 center who played with the Wildcats for half-a-season last year.

Arkansas had lost every scholarship player from its roster by the time Calipari was hired to replace Eric Musselman, who left for the same job at USC. Richmond’s addition provides the Hogs with four players in about two weeks.

Kentucky basketball recruit Billy Richmond decommits from the Wildcats

Former Kentucky basketball recruit Billy Richmond decommits from the Wildcats.

On Tuesday, Kentucky basketball recruit Billy Richmond became the fifth of their six original commits to change their plans after the Wildcats coaching change. Along with the others, he will re-open his recruitment.

Richmond originally committed to John Calipari back in December. The four-star forward chose Kentucky over a host of other SEC teams. He became part of a highly ranked Wildcats class at the time.

The Memphis native is the 25th ranked player in this recruiting class, and the ninth rated small forward. He’s a terrific athlete who runs the floor, but needs to work on his shot a bit.

Calipari is the early favorite to land Richmond, but he’ll have several schools interested. Mark Pope, Kentucky’s new coach, could also stay in contact about returning to Lexington.

It has been a tough week for Kentucky fans who have had to watch nearly every player from last year’s squad leave. Players will be added too, however, and Pope has collected his first commitment. Fans would love to have the talented Richmond, but as with the others, they’ll be ready to move on without him.

Kentucky basketball loses another one: 4-star Billy Richmond set to leave

Four-star forward Billy Richmond is now the latest player to de-commit from Kentucky.

Yet another commitment in the class of 2024 is leaving Kentucky with Billy Richmond the latest blue-chip prospect set to leave the program.

In recent days, five-star forward Jayden Quaintance and four-star guard Boogie Fland have asked to be released from their National Letter of Intent (NLI). Both prospects were huge parts of Kentucky’s recruiting class.

The Kentucky class is falling apart in the wake of head coach John Calipari’s departure to Arkansas. It is unclear if the trip of Fland, Quainatance and now Richmond will be joining Calipari at Arkansas.

Richmond is a 6-foot-6 forward from Camden High School (Camden, New Jersey). He is a consensus four-star recruit in the class of 2024.

News of Richmond departing Kentucky was first broken by On3’s Joe Tipton. Richmond has not (yet) made any posts on social media about the decision to re-open his recruitment.

Richmond is the No. 39 recruit in the nation according to ESPN, where he is also ranked as the No. 11 small forward in the recruiting class.

LSU makes the final four for 2024 top 25 shooting guard Billy Richmond

The Tigers have already pulled off one major surprise this cycle, and they’ll look for another as Kentucky is the heavy favorite for Billy Richmond.

LSU’s men’s basketball team already has two commitments in the 2024 recruiting class, both of which rank in the top 100.

The Tigers currently have a top-20 class, but that ranking could rise even more if [autotag]Matt McMahon[/autotag] can land some of the top players he has the team in the mix for, namely four-star shooting guard [autotag]Billy Richmond[/autotag].

Richmond ranks as a top-25 overall prospect in the country, and the Camden, New Jersey, prospect trimmed his list of schools down to four on Wednesday, per On3’s Joe Tipton: LSU, Kentucky, Alabama and Memphis.

There are currently no Crystal Ball projections for Richmond, but Kentucky is the heavy favorite per On3 at 87.4% to land him. LSU has the lowest odds of the finalists at just 2.6%.

McMahon has already pulled off one major surprise in this cycle, stealing [autotag]Curtis Givens III[/autotag] from Memphis, and he’ll look to pull off another heist with a player conference rival Kentucky and John Calipari covet.

One of the top small forwards in the 2024 recruiting class has narrowed his final list of schools down to eight. Head coach [autotag]Matt McMahon[/autotag] has the Tigers in the mix.

LSU joins Memphis, Miami, Texas, Kentucky, Kansas, Louisville and Alabama on the final list for four-star top 20 overall small forward [autotag]Billy Richmond[/autotag]. Richmond plays for Camden High School in Camden, New Jersey. The Camden Panthers finished the 2022 season 23-3 with a loss to Lindenwold in the playoffs.

There are currently no Crystal Ball projections for Richmond at this time but Kentucky is an 86% favorite to land him per On3. LSU does not have any commitments for the 2024 recruiting class yet but the Tigers are in contention for a lot of the top players in the country.

We will see what kind of recruits McMahon manages to pull in by the time their signing day rolls around.
