Kentucky basketball recruit Billy Richmond decommits from the Wildcats

Former Kentucky basketball recruit Billy Richmond decommits from the Wildcats.

On Tuesday, Kentucky basketball recruit Billy Richmond became the fifth of their six original commits to change their plans after the Wildcats coaching change. Along with the others, he will re-open his recruitment.

Richmond originally committed to John Calipari back in December. The four-star forward chose Kentucky over a host of other SEC teams. He became part of a highly ranked Wildcats class at the time.

The Memphis native is the 25th ranked player in this recruiting class, and the ninth rated small forward. He’s a terrific athlete who runs the floor, but needs to work on his shot a bit.

Calipari is the early favorite to land Richmond, but he’ll have several schools interested. Mark Pope, Kentucky’s new coach, could also stay in contact about returning to Lexington.

It has been a tough week for Kentucky fans who have had to watch nearly every player from last year’s squad leave. Players will be added too, however, and Pope has collected his first commitment. Fans would love to have the talented Richmond, but as with the others, they’ll be ready to move on without him.
