Alabama OC Bill O’Brien could be heading back to New England

Will Bill O’Brien return to the NFL?

Nick Saban and Alabama could be looking for a new offensive coordinator in the near future as reports are beginning to be released that Bill O’Brien could possibly be heading back to New England serving in the same capacity.

Current Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels is being linked to the head coach opening with the Las Vegas Raiders.

Adam Schefter of ESPN is reporting that if the Raiders and McDaniels reach an agreement, O’Brien would be a potential replacement. O’Brien previously served under Bill Belichick in New England in a variety of roles from 2007 to 2011.

Schefter released this tweet earlier this afternoon.

If O’Brien does in fact become the next offensive coordinator in New England, the Alabama connection would still be there in Patriots star quarterback Mac Jones.

WATCH: Nick Saban on hand to watch Arch Manning hoop

Always be crutin’ is Nick Saban’s moto

To remain atop of the college football world, you must win on the recruiting trail. So it should come as no surprise that Alabama head football coach Nick Saban would spend his Friday night watching the most coveted prospect in the class of 2023, Arch Manning.

This time Manning was leading Newman High School on the hardwood instead of the gridiron.

Manning is the nephew of NFL legends Peyton and Eli Manning and is also the grandson of Archie Manning.

Considering his lineage, Manning’s talent is no surprise. Standing at 6’4″, 215 pounds, Manning has the prototypical size and tools to be the next legendary Manning quarterback.

In the Gym Hoops released this video on its Twitter page showing Nick Saban and Bill O’Brien in attendance. Defensive coordinator Pete Golding was also in attendance.

Bill O’Brien not expected to be hired to fill Jacksonville Jaguars vacant head coaching role

Bill O’Brien isn’t in the running for the Jaguars head coaching spot after interviewing a few weeks ago.

When the football season comes to a close, the rumor mill surrounding coaches, players and programs starts churning out information on a seemingly daily basis.

Alabama’s offensive coordinator, Bill O’Brien, saw his name being mentioned for NFL head coaching spots, as expected given his experience as head coach of the Houston Texans in the past.

Some Crimson Tide fans were left less than impressed by O’Brien’s performance as Alabama’s offensive coordinator during the 2021 season. This led to some online debate about whether or not O’Brien taking quarters elsewhere would really be a blow to the ranks of the Crimson Tide.

Regardless, stability is important. It seems unfair to call upon the firing of a coordinator after just one season – one in which all expectations were exceeded.

With that said, the Jacksonville Jaguars are unlikely to pursue O’Brien as their next head coach, according to NFL Network’s Garafalo.

Garafolo, speaking on NFL Now, said he was “not getting that vibe” from his sources that O’Brien would be the team’s choice despite the presumption that he is a favored candidate for Jaguars general manager Trent Baalke. Per Garafolo, the Jaguars have completed their first round of interviews and are entering the second phase of their search with follow-up interviews.

LOOK: Bill O’Brien’s national championship offensive play-calling under scrutiny

Bill O’Brien takes heat from experts, analysts and fans.

The college football season has come to a close and the Georgia Bulldogs are the national champions, ending a title drought lasting over four decades. There are numerous things that went wrong for Alabama in the championship game, but Twitter users are pointing out Bill O’Brien’s play-calling.

Stetson Bennett looked stellar against the Crimson Tide defense, but he did in the SEC Championship game, as well. The only difference is that he managed to score more points than Alabama in the title game.

So how was he able to get more points up on the board? Well, the Crimson Tide had an extremely difficult time getting the ball into the end zone. In fact, Bryce Young and the rest of the offense only managed to get one touchdown, all other points for Alabama were courtesy of kicker Will Reichard.

College football experts, analysts and fans have taken to Twitter to call out first-year Alabama offensive coordinator O’Brien for his questionable decisions.

Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reported that former Houston Texans head coach, and former Patriots offensive coordinator Bill O’Brien has an interview scheduled next week with the Jags.

O’Brien is an interesting candidate. Most recently O’Brien has been leading the Alabama offense as its OC.

After spending seven years with the Texans, O’Brien was fired. A slow start, and some questionable personnel decisions led to O’Brien getting the boot. One of those was trading former Clemson superstar DeAndre Hopkins to the Arizona Cardinals for basically nothing.

But despite that, O’Brien has always been known for his offensive prowess. Having coached the likes of Tom Brady, and former Tiger Deshaun Watson, his resume on the offensive side is nothing short of spectacular. So pairing him with Trevor Lawrence might do wonders for the rookie QB, whose first season was a struggle to say the least.

LOOK: Twitter reacts to Bill O’Brien being interviewed by Jacksonville Jaguars

Fans did not hide their feelings about Bill O’Brien and the possibility of him coaching the Jaguars.

Alabama offensive coordinator Bill O’Brien is in his first season with the Crimson Tide after spending six season in the NFL with the Houston Texans. Despite making the playoffs a few times, his career in Houston came crashing down in ugly fashion. The decline began when he also assumed the role of General Manager.

Since his departure, football fans have been wary of his decision-making abilities, including some Crimson Tide fans.

Today, it was reported that O’Brien will interview for the Jacksonville Jaguars head coaching position.

Football fans took to Twitter and did not hold back in showing how they felt about it.

REPORT: Alabama OC Bill O’Brien will interview for Jacksonville Jaguars HC job

Bill O’Brien may be returning to the NFL ranks.

Alabama offensive coordinator Bill O’Brien is in his first year with the Crimson Tide, but it may already be his last. After spending some time in the NFL as the Houston Texans head coach, O’Brien left the league with his final season being met with lots of criticism.

His job at Alabama is not yet finished, though he has produced an impressive resume, which features a Heisman-winning quarterback. He still has at least one more game to coach: the national championship game against Georgia.

Today, it has been reported that O’Brien will be interviewing for the Jacksonville Jaguars head coaching position, a job once held by Urban Meyer for a few weeks to open the 2021 NFL season.

It was originally reported on by John Reid, the Jaguars beat reporter for the Florida Times Union.

REPORT: Alabama OC Bill O’Brien a serious name to watch in Jaguars HC search

Could Bill O’Brien soon be leaving the Tide for another NFL opportunity?

Nick Saban has a history of bringing in former coaches of other programs and franchises, utilizing them as analysts, assistants or even coordinators and then watching them leave the program for bigger opportunities, usually a step up from whatever role they held at Alabama. One of the more recent additions is Bill O’Brien.

The former Penn State and Houston Texans head coach had success at both collegiate and professional levels, but his final year in Houston led to a great downfall, which resulted in a firing. In fact, when he was let go from the Texans, the only phone call he reportedly received regarding a job opportunity was from Saban. He accepted and has been the Crimson Tide offensive coordinator for the 2021 season ever since.

His first season wearing crimson may be his last. There is one game remaining on the schedule: the national championship game. However, when that’s over, it may be time for O’Brien to return to the NFL.

CBS Sports’ Jason La Canfora recently reported on the Jacksonville Jaguars head coaching search, which has been on going since firing Urban Meyer just a few weeks into his first season as a NFL head coach.

According to La Canfora, O’Brien is a top candidate for Jaguars general manager Trent Baalke, who is pushing for the Alabama offensive coordinator to be hired by the ownership group.

“Baalke has also recently been pushing Alabama offensive coordinator Bill O’Brien to ownership as a possible candidate,” writes La Canfora. “O’Brien earned accolades as a play-caller under Nick Saban and has previous experience as head coach in Houston. However, the bitter end to his time there, and his history of power struggles and personality clashes, won’t likely do much to stem the tide of public sentiment in Jacksonville against the early stages of this hiring process.”

The report may be an outlier, as O’Brien’s name has not truly been mentioned much, but the search process is still young and La Canfora’s report seems to show that Baalke feels strongly about O’Brien’s abilities as a coach.
